Doris Mable Mayfield
April 23, 1918 - December 10, 2005
Doris Mable Mayfield, 87, 624 East 13th Street, Winamac died December 10, 2005 at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. On December 22, 1934 in Jasper County, Mo., she married Charles C. Mayfield Sr. He died September 10, 1972.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday December 13, 2005 at 7 p.m. at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Pastor Steve Fritchman officiating. Burial will take place December 14, 2005 in the Calumet Park Cemetery, located in Merrillville.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. at Frain Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. EST Wednesday at Calumet Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimers Association of Northern Indiana.
Ray M. (Jamie) Jamieson
November 16, 1938 - December 11, 2005
Robert B. "Bob" Pierrou January 16, 1917 - December 17, 2005 Robert B. "Bob" Pierrou, 88, 923 North Falvey Street, Winamac, died December 17, 2005 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. He was born January 16, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the son of Gunnar K. and Elsa (Bergsten) Pierrou.
On December 11, 1943 in Cleveland, he married Beulah M. Lewis. She survives.
At the time of his death his family was at his bedside.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired machinist. He loved to read and spend time with his family. When his health permitted, you could see him walking all through the Winamac area.
On Sunday, December 11, Bob and Beulah celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary with family.
Survivors, along with his wife Beulah, include: a daughter Bonnie P. [David] McAfee of Hobart, and a son James R. [Rhonda] Pierrou of Winamac. Also surviving are three grandsons: Michael E. [Beckie] Yoder of San Jose, Calif., and Brian and Cody Pierrou, both of Winamac; a granddaughter Angela [Charles] Bolen of Winamac; and two great-grandchildren, Jenna and Austin Bolen, both of Winamac. A sister Connie [Bill] Frohlich of Cleveland also survives.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 21, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Pastor Steve Fritchman, officiating.
A private burial will take place in the Idle Cemetery, located at Francesville, at a later date. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at Frain Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Winamac.
Romona Jean Duggleby
October 3, 1920 - December 15, 2005
Romona Jean Duggleby, 85, 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, died December 15, 2005 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital. She was born October 3, 1920 in Wheatfield, and was the daughter of Florence and Minnie Jane (Poling) Paxton. In 1952 she married Waldby Duggleby. He died in 1997.
There will be no visitation or funeral services.
Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville, were in charge of arrangements.
Benjamin B. Fort
March 12, 1919 - December 16, 2005
Benjamin B. Fort, 86, of Lewisburg, WV (formerly of Rochester, Ind.) died Friday December 16, 2005 at the Seasons Assisted Living Facility in Lewisburg. He was born March 12, 1919 at Maxwell, Ind., and was the son of Fred and Jessie (Gwinn) Fort.
Mr. Fort was a high school teacher in Indianapolis for 33 years. He was a member of Kewanna Church of Christ. He was a 50-year member of the Englewood Lodge Number 715, F&A.M. of Indianapolis, a 50-year member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, N.M.J. Valley of Indianapolis, a member of the Murat Temple, A.A. O.N.M.S. of Indianapolis, The Kiwanis Club of Rochester, and a member of the National Teacher Association of America.
Survivors include: a son, Dr. Kyle F. [Ann] Fort of Lewisburg; nine grandchildren: Karen Fort Bordas, Kristine Lynn Fort, Lisa Fort Vaughn, Linda Katharine Fort, Craig Fort, Casey Fort, Shaun Paul Taylor, Jaeson Barrett Fort and Mikel Patric Fort; and two great-grandchildren, Syndney Ann Vaughn and Anna Kristine Bordas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Madlyn Eileen Fort, one son Eric Craig Fort, and a sister, Betty Ann Schloemer.
Visitation was held Tuesday December 20, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home in Kewanna. Graveside services followed at the Rochester I.O.O.F Cemetery with Pastor Cliff Gano officiating.
A memorial service in West Virginia will be held on Monday, December 26, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Pastor Charlie Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benjamin B. Fort Scholarship Fund in Care of the Greenbrier Community College Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 1360, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.
Edward R. Nielsen
June 28, 1917 - December 19, 2005
Edward R. Nielsen, 88, of Medaryville, died Dec. 19, at Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born June 28, 1917 in Chicago to Niels R. and Elsa J.(Choitz) Nielsen.
On Dec. 23, 1945 at St. John United Church of Christ in Medaryville, he married Emma M. Shedrow, she survives.
He has resided in Medaryville most of his life and was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Lion's Club, American Legion Post #96 all of Medaryville.
He was a farmer all his life. He served in the First Armored Division, U.S. Army, as a tank commander during WWII. He was captured while serving in North Africa and spent two years in German Prison Camps. He was a former member of the West Central Board of Trustees, and had served as a director of the Pulaski County Farm Bureau.
Survivors along with his wife Emma are; a daughter Susan Nielsen of Indianapolis, five sons Stevan [Patricia] Nielsen of Gretna, La., Curtis [Lois] Nielsen of Bremen, Eric [Pamela] Nielsen, Kevin [Jacqueline] Nielsen and Kenneth [Sherry] Nielsen all of Medaryville. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Violet Smith of Lansing, Ill., Lois Will of San Pierre, and two brothers Robert [Marcella] Nielsen of Monticello, and Richard [Kareen] Nielsen of North Judson. He was preceded in death by a grandchild and one infant sister.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Medaryville with Pastor George Halsted officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mark's Cemetery in Medaryville.
Visitation will be: 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville. and one hour before services at the Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Nighta B. Tompert
Mrs. Nighta B. Tompert, 69, 301 East Street, Winamac, died Dec. 20 at 6:50 a.m. at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac.
Arrangements are pending at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
Monica Gina Gilbert
January 2, 1979 - December 20, 2003
Our loving (Monk) was born in Winamac to Nelson & Emma Bailey and Larry & Ruby Gilbert. She lived in San Pierre most of her life. She was a homemaker, a wonderful daughter and sister to all her family and friends. She was taken away too soon.
Her surviving family members are her parents, Larry Gilbert of San Pierre, Emma Mullins, and Nelson [Arlene] Bailey. A brother, Steven John Clemans of Rensselaer, four sisters, Tammy [John] Grigsby, Dewonna Sue Goad, Michelle Bailey, and Rachel Bailey. Monk had seven nieces and nephews, Austin, Faith, and Travis Rowe; Tony Jr., Nikki, Sidney, and Skylar Grigsby, who all loved her very much. She also had three step-sisters, Roxanne, Karen and Cheri, and two step-brothers Rick and Joe Gilbert. Monica will be sadly missed and loved forever.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 until 8 p.m. (CST) on Thursday, Dec. 22 at the Boersma Funeral Home, 90 East Grove, Wheatfield. Services for Monica will be held on Friday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. (CST) at the Boersma Funeral Home of Wheatfield, with Rev. James Rowe and Rev. Tom Lovely officiating. Interment will be at the Independence Cemetery of Medaryville. Memorials may be made to the family.

Nighta B. Tompert
February 15, 1936 - December 20, 2005
Nighta B. Tompert, 69, 301 N. East St., Winamac died December 20, 2005 at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. She was born February 15, 1936 in Winamac and was the daughter of Charles and Gladys C. (Klampe) Cone. She had lived in Winamac most of her life.
On July 13, 1957, in Winamac, she married Russell A. Tompert, who died November 3, 1958.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac. She was a former employee of the Rice Corp., Winamac, the Gossard Co. in Logansport, and retired from Federal Mogul in Leiters Ford after 20 years of employment. She enjoyed playing Bunco and tending to her flowers.
Survivors include: a daughter, Debra Richardson of Windsor, Ill., a granddaughter, Christina Richardson of Logansport, and a sister, Arlene Blount of Logansport. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Charliene Cone and Iris Cone.
Funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Friday, Dec. 23. Rev. Glen Meyers officiated. Burial took place in the Winamac Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
