Gregory Jerome Rausch
October 7, 1960 - February 3, 2006
Gregory Jerome Rausch, 45, of Logansport, died Friday Feb. 3 at his residence. He was born Oct. 7, 1960 in Logansport to George J. Rausch and Virginia (Brady) Rausch Koepkey.
Greg was employed at the Cass County Family Y and was also a member of the Cass County Family Y in Logansport. He was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. He was also president of the TOPS Club in Logansport. He liked yarn stitchery, balloons and drawing.
He graduated from St. Coletta Preparatory School in Janesville, Wis., and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Logansport.
Survivors include: six brothers, Gerald Rausch, George J. Rausch, Raymond Rausch, and Thomas Rausch, all of Winamac, Ronald Rausch of Carthage, and Andrew Rausch of Rochester. Also two sisters, Mary M. Allen-Grube of Rochester and Kathryn Rausch of Winamac, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Monday Feb. 6 at All Saints Catholic Church in Logansport, with Father Michael McKinney officiating. Burial took place at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Winamac. Marocco Funeral Chapel in Logansport was in charge of arrangements.

Alice Marie Smitley
September 19, 1920 - January 31, 2006
Alice Marie Smitley, 85, of Kewanna (formerly of Lake Bruce), died Jan. 31 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. She was born Sept. 19, 1920 in Adams County to Ervin and Mary (Minnich) Poling.
On Aug. 19, 1945 in Decatur, she married Rev. Keith J. Smitley. They had 52 wonderful years together before he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1997.
Alice was a homemaker and mother of five children. She had resided in the Kewanna-Bruce Lake area since 1962, coming here from Peru. She was an active member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she had been the church organist and pianist for a number of years and the United Methodist Women of the Church, until her health began to fail her.
She is survived by three daughters: Janice [Gary] Wentzel and Eunice [Ned] Urbin both of Kewanna, and Beverly Perry of Springfield, Ohio; two sons: Phillip [Madge] Smitley of Bunker Hill, and Rev. David [Debb] Smitley of Otterbein; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and a brother: Jerry Poling, of Iuka, Miss. Several very special nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two granddaughters: Lori Ann Perry and Karla Jo Urbin; one great granddaughter; Precious Eileen Urbin: a great grandson: Jeremy Denver Green; and a sister: Marjorie Carr.
A celebration of her life was held on Saturday Feb. 4 at the Good family Funeral Funeral Home in Rochester with the Reverends David Smitley and Mike Tatman officiating.
Memorials may be made to either the Gideon's International or the Wings of the Morning Flight Ministry.

Rex W. Crist
November 12, 1948 - February 10, 2006
Rex W. Crist, 57, of Star City, died Feb. 10 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. He was born Nov. 12, 1948 in Winamac to Ralph F. and Ardella Jean (Good) Crist.
On May 5, 1987, he married Carol L. Markley, who survives.
He was a member of James F. Talbott VFW Post #1121, Kewanna. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and Germany.
He was a 4-H Horse and Pony Leader for over 15 years. He was formerly employed at Galbreath Inc. for almost 20 years, leaving for medical reasons. He then worked for the Korner Shoppe Bridal in Logansport, before becoming disabled.
Rex trained horses and taught his daughter and nephew how to train horses. He was always willing to help any kid who asked. He was an adopted dad to several of Cara's friends.
He loved country & western music. He enjoyed visiting with his neighbors "the posse" and enjoyed taking yearly trips to Tennessee.
Surviving along with his wife Carol are: a daughter Cara Jean Crist of Star City, two sisters Jackie [John "JW"] Wheeler also of Star City and Janeal [Terry] Tripp of Delphi, a brother Roy [Kathy] Crist of Star City; his father Ralph F. Crist and step-mother Ruth Gridley both of Peru. Also surviving are his mother-in-law Betty [Bob] Kloenne of Logansport, three sister-in-laws Sue [Len] Young of Winamac, Kathy [David] Webb of Mansfield Tenn., and Karen [Tim] Pratt of Logansport, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with David Broad officiating. Burial took place in the Winamac Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulaski County 4-H Horse and Pony Club.

Marilyn Kay Dowd
February 9, 2006
Marilyn Kay Dowd, 64, of St. Cloud, Fla. (formerly of LaPorte), died Feb. 9 at a St. Cloud Hospital. She was born in Medaryville, she moved to St. Cloud from LaPorte in 2001.
Marilyn had been a social worker with the Council on Aging in LaPorte. She was of the Methodist Faith.
She is survived by her loving husband James H. Dowd, a daughter Jennifer L. Dowd, a son James W. Dowd all of St. Cloud. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws' Karen [John] Ferrell and Betty [Richard] Williams both of Indiana.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 11 at Osceola Memory Gardens Funeral Home with Rev. C. Alexis Talbott officiating.

Ivy Ruth Nagel
January 4, 1908 - February 9, 2006
Ivy Ruth Nagel, 98, of Rensselaer (formerly of Pulaski, Winamac and South Bend), died Feb. 9 at the Rensselaer Care Center. She was born Jan. 4, 1908 in Pulaski to Mathias L. and Rose Katherine (Gilsinger) Winter.
On Jan. 18, 1941 in Pulaski, she married Eugene Bertram Nagel, who preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1990.
Ivy had lived in Pulaski, Winamac and South Bend before moving to Rensselaer in 1958. She was a homemaker and a 1928 graduate of Pulaski High School. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer.
She is survived by one sister, Farrell [Kenneth] Mathew of South Bend and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 13 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer with Father Mark Peres officiating. Burial took place at St. Joseph Cemetery (South) in Pulaski.
Memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Rensselaer.
Jackson Funeral Chapel, Rensselaer was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Hiatt Allen
July 17, 1914 - February 8, 2006
Helen Hiatt Allen, 91, of Traverse City, Mich., died Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2005 at Boardman Lake Glens - Brigadoon.
Born July 17, 1914 in Star City, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Eva (Kahler) Hiatt. On June 30, 1940 in Star City she married Cecil L. Allen who died on December 28, 2002.
A former resident of San Diego, Calif. and Medaryville, Ind., Helen had resided in Traverse City since 2002. While living in Medaryville, she was an active member of the Medaryville United Methodist Church, where she served as the church organist for many years. A retired school teacher, Helen taught at Medaryville Public Schools. She also taught piano and volunteered for Pulaski County Mental Health Association
Helen enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing the piano. In her younger years she also enjoyed bicycling, traveling, and gardening, especially tending to her rose garden. She was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Helen is survived by her loving family: son Richard [Rosemary] Allen of Newton, Mass., and their children, Jeremiah and Sarah; son Jerry [Florence] Allen of San Diego, Calif.; daughter Nancy [Dennis] Fitzpatrick of Traverse City and their children, Kaley and Bradi; and a brother, Neal Hiatt of Winamac.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Medaryville United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to West Central Schools Scholarship Fund, 1852 S. U.S. 421, Francesville, Indiana 47946 or to Medaryville United Methodist Church, Medaryville, Indiana 47957.
Arrangements were made with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, Michigan 49684.

Orville O. Losh
July 14, 1928 - February 6, 2006
Orville O. Losh, 77, of West Point (formerly of Francesville), died Feb. 6 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. He was born July 14, 1928 in Francesville to Ernest and Dorothy (Shepard) Losh. Orville married Muriel Fritze in 1953, she died in 2003. He resided in West Point for the past 3 years, coming from Ironwood Mich.
He was a truck driver for Schneider National Trucking for over 30 years. He liked fishing and was an avid Packer fan. He liked to cause trouble... He enjoyed woodworking and woodcarving.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville, with James Ketchen officiating. Burial took place at the Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, Mich.
