Bertha (Beth) Fisher
August 6, 1944 - March 18, 2006
Beth Fisher, 61, of Mt. Prospect, Ill., died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights, Ill. She was born August 6, 1944 in Chicago and was the daughter of Albert and Josephine (Swiercynski) Fisher.
Formerly of Winamac, Beth worked for the Salvation Army and lived most of her life in the Chicagoland area.
She will be remembered for her indomitable spirit and a lifetime of service to others. Beth enjoyed many happy years with the Salvation Army and other service organizations and will be sadly missed by her family.
Beth is survived by her four sisters: Delores [Dennis] Mahler of Morresville, Grace [Jim]Maltas of Hillsborough, NC, and Mary [Robert] Maddox and Anna [Phillip] Crawford both of Winamac; four brothers, Albert [Joan] Fisher, Crossville, Tenn., and Edward [Loree] Fisher, Jack Fisher, both of Winamac, and John Fisher of Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Edward Fisher of Chicago, and her parents, Albert and Josephine of Winamac.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Des Plaines, Ill.

Helena A. Szponar
June 30, 1922 - March 21, 2006
Helena A. Szponar, 83, 3998 N. Old S.R. 17, Rochester, died March 21 at the Catherine Kasper Home in Donaldson. She was born June 30, 1922 in Poland and was the daughter of Alexander and Irene Szaraban.
On Aug. 26, 1945, in Fritzlar, Germany she married Leon Szponar. He died Feb. 26, 1994.
Helena came to the Monterey Community from Germany in 1949. She was a homemaker and had been employed at Eaton Corporation in Winamac in assembly for 17 years. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Monterey.
A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, March 27 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Monterey with Father Burt Woolson officiating. Burial took place at St. Anne's Cemetery in Monterey.
Roger Weissmann
January 15, 1956 - March 27, 2006
Roger James Weissmann, 50, 7325 N US 35, Winamac, died March 27 at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso. He was born Jan. 15, 1956 in Harvey, Ill. to Robert and Marilyn (Reynolds) Weissmann.
On March 14, 1985 in Blue Island, Ill. He married Rita Jeanette Trainer. She survives.
Roger had worked as a laborer at Galbreath, Inc. in Winamac for 15 years. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #2580 in Winamac. Roger enjoyed NASCAR racing and was an avid Tony Stewart fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating.
Survivors along with his wife Rita are: a son, Jason Raie [Jennifer] Weissmann of Winamac, three daughters Jennifer Lynn Lohenis of Ramsey, Ill. Jillian Marie [Bill] Pulley Romeoville, Ill., and Jessica Marilyn Weissmann of Winamac, a granddaughter, Abbigail Rose Lohenis of Ramsey, Ill. Also surviving are a sister Lark [Bob] Wartenberg of Green Bay, Wis., two brothers Ronald [Alice] Weissmann of Alta Loma, Calif., and Ross Weissmann of Green Bay, Wis., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Robert and Marilyn Weissmann, a sister, Linda Weissmann, two brothers, Michael Weissmann and Robert Weissmann, and a grandson, Jack Lohenis.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac with Pastor Kris Graunke officiating. Burial will take place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, located in Winamac.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. EST, Wednesday (today) at Frain Mortuary. An Eagles Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Frain Mortuary.
Memorial Contributions may be given to the family.
Eugene Gleith Fry
April 19, 1945 - March 28, 2006
Eugene Gleith Fry, 60, of Star City, died March 28 at El Centro Regional Medical Center, El Centro, Calif. He was born in Winamac on April 19, 1945, to Glen Daniel and Edith O. (Mays) Fry.
On June 22, 1966 in Thousands Oaks, Calif., he married Linda Lou Reed. She survives.
Eugene lived his entire life in Pulaski County. He was a 1964 graduate of Winamac High School and attended Ball State University for one year.
Mr. Fry was a farmer until 1973 and had been a foreman at Singer Control's in Winamac from 1973 to 1978. He then worked for the United States Postal Service for 17 years. He was a clerk and walking carrier at Logansport and then a full time rural carrier at Star City. He retired in 1997 due to disability.
Eugene was a true nature and conservation lover. His later years were devoted to building and maintaining his 80 acres in the Indiana Wildlife Habitat program. The area was a wildlife haven with woods, grasslands and ponds. He also maintained paths, benches and walkways so that the people could also benefit from his wildlife area. In 1990, he was the recipient of the Indiana Wildlife Federation's "Wildlife Conservationist of the Year." Mr. Fry's enjoyments in life were his wife and children, playing cards, traveling through the United States, his wildlife area, and everything dealing with wildlife or nature.
His death occurred from complications brought on by Post Polio Syndrome.
He is survived by his mother, Edith O. Fry of Winamac, his wife, Linda of Star City, a son Bob [Michelle] Fry of Lima, Ohio, a daughter, Kris Fry of Star City, two sisters Judy [Eric E. Prentice] Gallaher of Winamac, and Bev [Brandon] Sproles of Monticello, two nieces, Kim [Randy] Fox of Winamac, and Becky [Terry Brown] Litke of Kewanna, two great nieces, Brandi Fox and Lindsey Fox, a great nephew, Austin Sproles, and a nephew, Anthony [Jean] Sproles. He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Fry, and a nephew, Kevin Litke.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 4 at Victor Chapel Cemetery, Star City.

Richard A. Schultz
August 11, 1929 - April 2, 2006
Richard A. Schultz, 76, 5950 E 700 N, Medaryville, died April 2 at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso. He was born Aug. 11, 1929 in Parr to Carl and Ruby (Smith) Schultz.
On June 10, 1950 in Medaryville, he married Ester E. Yerion, who survives.
Richard was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Medaryville. He was a retired farmer who enjoyed working the land and working in his garden. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with friends at the coffee shop. He was an avid participant in antique tractor pulls. He was a longtime financial secretary at St. Mark Church. He was a former bus driver for Gillam School. Richard was an avid college and school basketball fan.
Survivors along with his wife Ester are: a daughter, Pamela S. [Gregory] Werner, two sons, Ronald D. [Susan] and Gary L. [Estie] Schultz, all of Medaryville, also eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, a brother, Robert Gene [Phyllis] Schultz of Michigan City. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ruby Schultz and a sister, Lois Kathryn (Schultz) Calvert.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 6 at 11 a.m. C.D.T. at St Mark Lutheran Church in Medaryville, with Pastor George Halsted officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mark Cemetery in Medaryville.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 5 from 3-8 p.m. C.D.T. at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville, and also one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Mark Church.
Mary H. Kyser
October 15, 1924 - March 30, 2006
Mary H. Kyser, 81, 436 West Jefferson St., Winamac, died March 30 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born October 15, 1924 in Kewanna to Shirley Lee and Mamie (Clark) Copeland.
On July 28, 1954, in Chicago, she married George A. Kyser, who died July 9, 1968.
Mary was a retired homemaker for Pulaski Human Services in Winamac. She lived most of her life in Pulaski County. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and reading her Bible. Mary enjoyed country music and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mona S. Steele of Winamac, a son, Thomas L. Kyser of Kokomo, and a granddaughter, Helen Steele. She was preceded in death by: her parents, two sisters, Elsie VanScoik and Ethel Hettinger, four brothers, Gene Copeland, Paul Copeland, Don Copeland and Lee Copeland, and her husband, George A. Kyser.
Graveside services were held Friday, March 31 at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac with Rev. Glen Meyers officiating.
Frain Mortuary in Winamac was in charge of arrangements.
Ann L. (Zelek) Wojcik-Weaver
March 29, 2006
Ann L. (Zelek) Wojcik-Weaver, 87, of Munster, (formerly of Hammond and Winamac) died on Wednesday March 29.
Mrs. Wojcik-Weaver was an employee at Keyes Fibre in Hammond, where she also attended their Retiree Breakfast Club. She was a member of the Nite Lighters Home Ec Club of Winamac. Mrs. Wojcik-Weaver was an avid gardener and she enjoyed fishing and arts and crafts.
She is survived by her son Ron [Donna] Wojcik of Munster; daughter Lorie Ames of San Marcos, Calif.; grandson Brad Wojcik of Houston, Texas; four granddaughters, Karen [John] Parsons of Griffith, Ginny [Nick] Werner of Norfolk Beach, Va., Cindy [Greg] Derochie of California, Chris Troinello of California; sister Vern [Joe] Svitek of Oakland, Calif.: several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Chester Wojcik and Vincent Weaver; and one sister, Eleanor Yadron.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 3 at the Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, with Rev. Theodore Mens officiating. Burial took place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Hospice of the Calumet Region (William Riley Residence).
