Verla G. Bonnell
April 4, 1918 - January 3, 2007
Verla G. Bonnell, 88, 806 S. Market St., Winamac, died Jan. 3, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born April 4, 1918 in Grass Creek, the daughter of Firman and Hazel Blanche (Hiatt) Haselby.
On Dec. 17, 1938 in Star City, she married Sherald L. "Shay" Bonnell. He died June 8, 1974.
Verla was a member of the Star City Methodist Church and was a former treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the OES 96 in Winamac and Rebekah Lodge. She served as treasurer of the Pulaski County Democratic Women for many years. Verla was a former sales clerk at Miller's Department Store in Winamac and had also worked at the CFS Plant in Kewanna. Verla enjoyed sewing, baking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include; a daughter, Sharlene Planck, two sons, Jay [Shirley] Bonnell and Tom [Sarah] Bonnell, all of Winamac, 10 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 10 great- great grandchildren, two sisters, Charlotte [Tom] Blinn of Winamac and Carol [Jack] Danruther of Rensselaer, two brothers, Johnnie [Marjorie] Haselby of Camp Springs, Md., and Ivan [Delores] Haselby, of Winamac, a daughter-in-law Joanne Bonnell of Crown Point, and a sister-in-law Evelyn Haselby of Star City. She is preceded in death by her parents, Firman and Hazel Blanche (Hiatt) Haselby, her husband, Sherald L. "Shay" Bonnell, a son, Lyle Dean Bonnell, a son-in-law, Jim Planck, a grandchild, a great grandchild, two sisters, Berniece Capper and Marie Zeider and five brothers Jack Haselby, Robert (Sam) Haselby, Harlan Haselby, Carl Gene Haselby and Darl Dean Haselby.
Funeral services were held at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Sunday, Jan. 7, with Rev. Kevin Marsh officiating. Burial took place at the Star City West Cemetery in Star City.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Pulaski Community Foundation Sherald and Verla Bonnell Family Education Fund or to the foundation fund of your choice.

Ellen L. Brady
August 9, 1906 - January 3, 2007
Ellen L. Brady, 100, 624 East 13th Street, Winamac, died Jan. 3, at Pulaski Health Care Center. She was born Aug. 9, 1906 in Conover, Wisc., the daughter of Michael and Ulrika (Dahl) Lillund.
On Aug. 14, 1929 in Waukegan, Ill., she married Weldon S. Brady. He died Jan. 11, 1993.
Ellen was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Winamac. She was a member of the L.W.M. L. Ladies' Guild at St. Luke's. She was a charter member of Pulaski County Human Services in Winamac. She has resided in Winamac since 1985, coming from Lake Placid, Fla. She was a former resort owner and sales clerk. She enjoyed spending time traveling with her husband's band. Ellen loved her family.
Survivors include: several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Ulrika (Dahl) Lillurd, her step-mother Lisa Lillurd, her husband Weldon S. Brady, two sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Winamac on Monday, Jan. 8, with Pastor William Daniel O'Connor officiating. Burial took place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, or to the Cancer Fund or to the Diabetes Association.

Margaret Ann Van Buskirk
April 4, 1928 - January 5, 2007
Margaret Ann Van Buskirk, 78, 117 E. Main St., Medaryville, died Jan. 5 at her residence. She was born April 4, 1928 in Winamac and was the daughter of William J. and Lydia V. (Shedrow) Nicolas.
Margaret was a lifetime resident of Medaryville. She graduated from Medaryville High School. Margaret was a member of the American Legion Auxillary in Medaryville. She enjoyed crocheting and attending auctions and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Margaret was a former employee of Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.
Margaret is survived by three daughters; Jackie A. [Daniel] Bridegroom of North Judson, Janna L. [Jeffery] Nowak of LaPorte, and Pamela J. Van Buskirk of Lynchburg, Va.; a son, William J. [Anita] Van Buskirk of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcella Nielsen of Monticello; and a brother, Dennis Nicolas of Bremen.
She is preceded in death by her parents; William J. and Lydia V. (Shedrow) Nicolas, a son; John A. Van Buskirk and a brother; William Nicolas.
Funeral services were held at the Medaryville United Methodist Church in Medaryville on Tuesday, Jan. 9, with Pastor Lynn Rosiejka officiating. Burial took place in the White Post Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Medaryville United Methodist Church.

Debra Marie Hopkins
April 29, 1957 - December 29, 2006
Debra Marie Hopkins, 49, 7194 N. US Hwy 421, San Pierre, died Dec. 29 at her residence. She was born April 29, 1957 in Valparaiso, the daughter of Hargis and Eliza Marie (Harris) Hopkins Jr.
Debra lived most of her life in Francesville. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, collecting music boxes and listening to music while cleaning the house. Debra was formerly the Deli Manager at the IGA Store in Francesville. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her companion Marty Wireman. She was a very strong willed woman and was willing to work hard to achieve her goals.
Debra is survived by: a son, Ricky [Tanya] Crews of Scottshill, Tenn., two daughters Jeniffer Hinman of Rensselaer, and Kellie [Mike] Brower of LaOtto, four grandsons, Chase Manns of Rensselaer, Blake Crews, Zander Crews, and Robert Graves Jr., all of Scottshill, Tenn., four granddaughters, Baylee Neira of Rensselaer, Christian Crews, Taylor Graves and Katherine Graves all of Scottshill, Tenn., four brothers, Timothy [Sue] Hopkins of Kingman, Gregory [Michelle] Hopkins of Francesville, Anthony [Tina] Hopkins of Monon, and Darrell [Linda] Hopkins of Rochester, and her parents, Hargis and Eliza M. (Harris) Hopkins Jr., of Francesville.
Funeral services were held at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville on Tuesday, Jan. 2, with Pastor Dennis Gutwein officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family.

Vivian Elizabeth Byers
February 7, 1910 - January 4, 2007
Vivian Elizabeth Byers, 96, 624 E. 13th Street, Winamac (formerly of Medaryville) died Jan. 4, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.
Funeral services were held at the Medaryville Christian Church in Medaryville, Monday, Jan. 8, with Don Nedza officiating. Burial took place in White Post Cemetery in Medaryville.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Medaryville Christian Church.

Jungels
Fred D. Jungels, 76, 2110 N. 1175 W., Medaryville, died Jan. 3, at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso Campus.

Roy L. McIlvain Sr.
January 30, 1921 - January 10, 2007
Roy L. McIlvain Sr., 15418 W. 150 N., Medaryville, died January 10, at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus, Merrillville. He was born January 30, 1921 in Hartford, Kan. and was the son of Clarence Clemens and Bessie Dolly (Chambers) McIlvain.
On January 14, 1944 in Winamac, he married Dorothy R. Schultz. She survives.
Roy was a member of the Medaryville American Legion and the Medaryville United Methodist Church. He was a retired volunteer firefighter with the White Post Township Fire Department in Medaryville. He was a retired mail carrier. Roy was a WWII Army veteran and served from 1943 -1946. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart.
Survivors along with his wife Dorothy R. McIlvain of Medaryville, are three sons: Roy [Barbara] McIlvain and Ronald [Shari] McIlvain both of Medaryville, and Richard [Jan] McIlvain of Winamac; two granddaughters:Tammy McIlvain of Medaryville and Autumn McIlvain of Chesterton; six grandsons: Scott McIlvain of Brook, Jason McIlvain of Lafayette, Jeremy McIlvain, Richard McIlvain, Jr., and Ronald McIlvain, all of Medaryville, and Travis McIlvain of Winamac; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Stalbaum of Apache Junction, Ariz.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Clemens and Bessie Dolly (Chambers) McIlvain, a great-granddaughter Crystal McIlvain, and a great-grandson Curtis McCarty; three brothers: Clarence McIlvain, Richard Earl McIlvain, and Charles McIlvain; and two sisters: Laura Mae Fairencamp and Nellie Hilbish.
Funeral services were held at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville on Saturday, Jan. 13, with Rev. Tom Dewlen officiating. Burial took place in the Sutton Cemetery in Medaryville, where the American Legion conducted military graveside services.

James A. Gould
November 7, 1927 - January 8, 2007
James A. Gould, 79, 6578 S. 400 E., Star City, died January 8, at his residence. He was born November 7, 1927 in Spencer, Iowa, and was the son of George Byron and Mary (Elders) Gould.
On October 8, 1958 in Indianapolis, he married Betty Lou Kreutzberger. She survives.
Jim was a life member of VFW Post #1728 in Winamac, and the Star City Lions Club. He was a Star City Volunteer Fireman. Jim moved here in 1962 from Monticello. He had worked at Smith Douglas Fertilizer in Streator, Ill. He worked at Hanenkratt Grain Elevator in Monticello. Jim was the owner/operator of Moyer Grain Co., Inc. in Star City until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed playing golf, camping, fishing and winters in Florida. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and his dog George. Jim was a 1952 graduate of Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. He held the mile run record at his high school in Spencer, Iowa for 22 years. Jim served in the US Army where he served in the honor guard for General Ridgeway while in Japan.
Surviving along with his wife Betty Lou, are two daughters: Mary A. Mays and Cheryl L. [Rick] Schultz, both of Star City; two sons: Jim B. [Karla] Gould of Star City and John C. [Robin] Gould of Monticello; a sister, Margaret Zinn of Spencer, Iowa.; a brother, Robert B. [Arla Ann] Gould also of Spencer;12 grandchildren: Matthew, Kelsie, Kassie, Amber, Holly, and Austin Gould; Jason [Britni] Brown, Jessica Brown, Jerad Mays, Ashley Olson, Brooke [David] Browning, and Chelsea Newman; a great-grandchild, Destini Gould, a sister-in-law Lorraine Gould of Waupan, Wis., and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents: George Byron and Mary (Elders) Gould and a brother, George Gould. Funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Saturday, Jan. 12, with Rev. Kevin Marsh officiating. Burial took place in the Star City West Cemetery, located in Star City.
Memorial contributions may be given to Shrine Crippled Children Hospital.
The VFW and American Legion conducted military graveside services.
