Margaret A. Long

Margaret A. Long, 81, 7337 N 200 E, Monterey, died March 18 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born Nov. 24, 1925 in Winnett, Mont., the daughter of Armor and Bessie (Planck) Carson.
On April 18, 1948 in Winamac, she married Fred A. Long. He died Jan. 21, 1992.
Margaret was the co-owner of the 5-L Processing Plant in Monterey. She was a member of the Ora Gospel Chapel Church. Margaret enjoyed traveling, making quilts, fishing, and playing board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters: Connie [Roy] Dunn and Cathy [Dennis] Ringen of Winamac; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Betty Stoner of Calif. and Helen Pugh of Camp Verde, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents: Armor and Bessie (Planck) Carson; her husband, Fred A. Long; one son, Douglas Allen Long; one great-grandson, Christopher Park; two brothers: Roy Carson and Jim Carson.
Visitation will be held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Tuesday, March 20, from 3-8 p.m. EDT. Funeral services will also be held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Wednesday, March 21, at 11 a.m. EDT, with Pastor Don Franklin officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Ora Gospel Chapel.
Merrill H. Smith
July 30, 1943 - March 6, 2007
Merrill H. Smith, 85, North Judson, died March 15, at Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac. Funeral services were held at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville on Monday, March 19 at 1 p.m. by the Rev. David Childs. Burial took place in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton. Robert 'Bob' E. Button
June 24, 1943 - March 22, 2007
Robert 'Bob' E. Button, 63, 478 N. 100 W., Winamac, died March 22 at his residence. He was born June 24, 1943 in Winamac, the son of Lester E. and Viola M. (Hunter) Button. On April 13, 1973 in Winamac, he married Jean A. Drach. She survives.
Bob was the owner of REB Construction of Winamac. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching Lady Warrior basketball. Bob attended the First Baptist Church in Winamac.
Survivors include his wife, Jean A. (Drach) Button; three sons: Vincent [Danette] Button of Pinch, W. Va.; Rod [Janine] Button and Jack Button both of Winamac; two sisters: Vicki Mayer and Daisy [Mike] Eberwein both of Winamac; four grandchildren: Jennifer, Samantha, Tori, and Savanna; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lester E. and Viola M. (Hunter) Button; one brother, Tom Button; and three sisters: Carolyn Eskridge, Donna Button, and Marilyn Button.
Funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Monday, March 26, with Pastor Vince Button officiating. Burial took place in McKinley Memorial Garden Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to Pulaski Memorial Hospice.

George G. Erb
April 6, 2007
George G. Erb, 78, passed away Friday, April 6 after a six-month struggle with cancer; he won the battle by following in Jesus' footsteps on Good Friday.
Born in Francesville, he was a retired farmer and insurance salesman. He was a member of Westwood Fellowship, Woodburn, American Legion #228, Gideon's International and was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran.
Survivors include wife, Elaine (Stroller) of Fort Wayne; sons, Dr. Kent [Bobbi] Erb of Westfield, and Gary [Cheryl] Erb of Crystal Lake, Ill.; daughters, Cheri [Bill] Delph of Francesville, and Lauri [Lynn] Swing of Woodburn; sons, Mike [Teresa] Erb Earley of Monticello, John [Kay] Erb Earley of Rockford, Ill.; and Kevin [Megan] Erb Earley of Monticello; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers, Neil Erb of Francesville, Glenn Erb of Irvine, Calf. and Max Erb of Monon; and sister, Carol Bucher of Francesville. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Leman and Lorna Putt, and a brother, Don Erb.
Services were Tuesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne. The Rev. Allen Schlatter and the Rev. Lynn Stieglitz officiated.
Entombment was in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, with Military graveside services.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice, Westwood Fellowship or Gateway Woods Children's Home.
Maralyn Mayhew

Maralyn Mayhew, 86, of Max, Minn. fomerly of Medarvville, died Friday. Jan. 26, 2007 at home in Max.
Maralyn was born Feb. 20, 1920 to Earl and Bess Heater in Winamac, where she was raised and graduated from high school. She married Wayne D. Mayhew and they lived and raised their three children in Medaryville. She worked for the Government AAA Farm Program, First Union Bank, and Heritage Office Products. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of the First Christian Church. She was a 50 year member of the order of the Easter Star, Chapter 310, Medaryvilie.
Preceding her in death were here husband, Wayne D. Mayhew; sister, Betty Heater; brother, Joe Heater; and granddaughter, Christine Mayhew.
She is survived by three children, Wayne D. Mayhew Jr. of Medaryville, Jeaime L. Nettles of Valparaiso, and Mary Ann Williams of Max, Minn.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Boyd of Winamac.
A Memorial Service will be held at the White Post Cemetery in Medaryville, on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. EDT.
Arthur C. Esslinger II
Arthur C. Esslinger II, 61, Winamac, died March 31, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Thurs., April 5 at 11 a.m. EDT. by Pastor Gary Reed. Burial took place in the Mt. Zion-Franklin Twp. Cemetery in Winamac.
Helen M. Freye
April 14, 1934 - April 3, 2007
Helen M. Freye, 72, 10888 East Hackberry Ave., Monterey, died April 3, 2007, at her residence. She was born April 14, 1934, in Carthage, Ill., the daughter of Harlan and Lucile (Kates) Saxon.
In June of 1994, she married Robert E. Freye. He survives.
Helen was a longtime Benton Harbor, Mich., resident. She moved to Monterey one year ago. Helen was an assembler for State Tool Manufacturing in Benton Harbor, retiring in 1994.
Surviving, along with her husband, Robert E. Freye, are two daughters: Sara [Eric] Honsowetz of Saline, Mich., and Brenda Thomas of Benton Harbor, Mich.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters: Edna Gilliam of Carmel and Elsie Chance of Bardstown, Ky. She was preceded in death by her parents: Harlan and Lucile (Kates) Saxon.
Graveside services were held at Ora Cemetery, in Ora, Tuesday, April 10, with Pastor G.A. Barrera officiating.
Geyer
Lewis N. Geyer, 75, 255 South Salem St., Francesville, died Wednesday, March 28, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.
Bradley W. Scheffer
October 6, 1965 - April 14, 2007
Bradley W. Scheffer, 41, 6144 S. SR 119, Star City, died April 14 due to injuries received in an auto accident at 600 W 400 N, Winamac. He was born Oct. 6, 1965, in Winamac, the son of Paul M. 'Pudge' and Helen L. (Ortman) Scheffer.
Brad attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski. He was a crane operator at S&S Precast in Winamac. Brad enjoyed spending time with his friends and was a warm and friendly person.
Survivors include his mother, Helen L. (Ortman) Scheffer of Star City; five sisters: Linda [Tom] Hoffman of Asheboro, N.C., Lynn Nufer of Winamac, Kathleen Schroeder of Cleveland, Tenn., Vickie [Gary] Funkhouser of Wingate, and Shelley [Mark] Krider of Columbia City; six brothers: Ronald Scheffer and Donald [Shirley] Scheffer both of Rochester, Gary [Ruth] Scheffer of Leiters Ford, Douglas Scheffer of Star City, Stephen Scheffer of Winamac, and George [Melinda] Scheffer of Francesville; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Clare Braun and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul M. 'Pudge' Scheffer, and one brother, Randall Raymond Scheffer.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, April 17 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. A Rosary Service will be held at 3 p.m. EDT also on Tuesday, April 17 at Frain Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held at Frain Mortuary on Wednesday, April 18 at 11 a.m. EDT, with Rev. Ronald Schiml officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Joseph Cemetery South in Pulaski.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
