Effie B. Jarmusz
Aug. 5, 1910 - May 2, 2007
Effie B. Jarmusz, 96, 410 Tioga Road, Monticello, died May 2 at White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello. She was born Aug. 5, 1910, in Rochester, the daughter of Omer and Nellie Myrtle (Hodge) Henry.
On June 30, 1954, in Merrillville, she married Ralph Jarmusz. He died on Nov. 27, 2002. Effie was a Spark Tester, testing grades of steel at US Steel in Gary for 30 years. She was a former Winamac resident until moving to Monticello in 2002. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended the First Christian Church in Winamac. Effie enjoyed collecting antiques. She loved working in her flower garden and visiting with friends and family. Effie was always smiling and happy, and had earned the nickname 'Sweetie Pie.' She and her husband Ralph purchased and completely restored a historic home in Winamac in 1971.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Banker of Monticello; three granddaughters: Linda [Steve] Squires of Middleton, Wis., Karen [Joe] Murray of Monticello, and Carol [Jeff] Hardebeck of Windemere, Fla.; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Hickman of Knox; two brothers: Kenneth Henry of Plymouth and Keith Henry of Michigan City. She was preceded in death by her parents: Omer and Nellie Myrtle (Hodge) Henry; her husband, Ralph Jarmusz; two sisters: Daisy Shrader and Gertrude Tudor; and two brothers: Harry Henry and John Henry.
Betty A. Barlow Combs
Jan. 28, 1933 - May 1, 2007
Betty A. Barlow Combs, 74, 300 E. Culver Rd., Knox, died May 1, at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. She was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Winamac, the daughter of Floyd and Emma (Green) Hilt.
She married Troy Combs. He preceded her in death.
Betty was a nurse's aide in nursing homes in LaPorte County. She loved children and her work.
Survivors include two daughters: Emma Ingersoll Avila of Kewanna and Thelma Vest of Vincennes; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Carmany of Michigan City; and one brother, William Hilt of North Judson. She was preceded in death by her parents: Floyd and Emma (Green) Hilt; her husband, Troy Combs; one sister, Etta Belle Hilt; three sons: Floyd Lockridge, Charles Lockridge, and Arthur Lockridge; one daughter, Sandra Lockridge; and one grandson, Robert Hines.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 5, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Burial took place in the Winamac Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital.
Marget L. Lilley
February 8, 1920 - May 20, 2007
Marget L. Lilley, 87, Monticello, died Sunday, May 20, 2007, at 5:20 a.m. at Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center.
She was born Feb. 8, 1920 in Rensselaer to the late Thomas S. Kendall and the late Glenna A. (Current) Kendall.
On Dec. 20 1939, she married Joseph J. Lilley in Rensselaer. He died in October of 1988. Mrs. Lilley was primarily a homemaker, but in later life worked at Pulaski Memorial Hospital as a cook. She was also a seamstress for many years. She attended the Monticello United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Stroker's Swim Team.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Kain [Allan R.] Strange of Monticello; daughter-in-Law, Nancy Lilley of Valparaiso; two sisters: Evelyn Hazelgrove of Rensselaer, and Beverly Zollman of Rensselaer; Sister-in-Law, Bethel Kendall of Morocco; five granddaughters: Christina Lilley of LaCrosse, Raquel [Albert] Sellan of Bowie, Md., Holly [David] Wisinski of Delphi, Kara [Isaac] Wildman of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Angela [Dave] Davis of Attica; two grandsons: Joel Lilley of Kouts, and Allan [Jessica] Strange of Monticello; five great-granddaughters: Raeleyn Schmidt, Abby Sellan, Ella Sellan, Mariah Davis, and Rhyan Strange; and five great-grandsons: Kyle Oliver, Alec Sellan, Chancelor Wisinski, Alexander Wisinski, and Carson Davis.
She is preceded in death by her husband; son, James J. Lilley; granddaughter, RaShelle Shawn Kain; and a grandson, Robert D. Lilley; and also five sisters; and one brother.
Services were held at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at 11 a.m.by the Rev. Chris Dodson. Marget was buried in the Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Robin E. Shidler
July 2, 1953 - May 18, 2007
Robin E. Shidler, 53, 6627 W. 300 N., Winamac, died May 18 at her residence. She was born July 2, 1953 in East Chicago, Ind., the daughter of the late Jack Wall and Betty L. Gerike. She was employed as a prep cook.
Survivors include her mother, Betty L. Gerike of Medaryville; a son, Raymond Calvert of Rochester; a daughter, Nicole [Darel] Mason of Valparaiso; two grandsons: Austin Wilson Reid of Tompkinsville, Ky. and Tre Mason of Valparaiso; three granddaughters: Taylor and Hanna Calvert of Winamac, and Tyra Mason of Valparaiso; several step-children; three brothers; and three sisters. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Wall; and her husband, Paul W. Shidler.
A memorial service will be held at Querry Ulbright Funeral Home in Francesville on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 7 p.m. EDT. Friends may call after 5 p.m. EDT Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family.
Robert Harvey Connors
Robert Harvey Connors married Sally Spurgeon. He was the father of Cheryl [Jesus] Yepez and Elizabeth Connors. He was the grandfather of Liliana, Magdalena, and Grace Yepez.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 22, from 4-8PM. Funeral services will be at 9:45AM on Wednesday, May 23, from the Belmont Funeral Home, 7120 W. Belmont Ave, to the St. Priscilla Church, with Mass at 10:30AM. Future burial will be at the St. Peter's Cemetery in Winamac.

Ronald L. Clark
October 5, 1945 - May 21, 2007
Ronald L. Clark, 61, Indianapolis, passed Monday, May 21, 2007. He was born October 5, 1945 in LaPorte, to Henry and Vera (Boardman) Clark. Ron was a dedicated husband and father.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda E. (Greene) Clark; children, Michelle L. Foster, Nicole D. Clark, Kristen D. Clark, Ronald Ryan Clark, T. Jared Clark, and Christopher A. Clark; mother, Vera Clark; brother, Greg Clark; sisters, Sandra Bell and Betty Nicholas; grandchildren, Meagan and Cole Foster; aunts, Mary Swayzee and Dorothy Lehman; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Wednesday, May 23 from 3-8 p.m. at Little & Sons Funeral Home Stop 11 Road Chapel, where the funeral is Thursday, May 24 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Clara Maxine Button
Jan. 1, 1923 - May 20, 2007
Clara Maxine Button, 84, 5254 N 250 W, Winamac, went to meet her Lord on May 20, 2007. She was born Jan. 1, 1923, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Emil A. and Lillian B. (Brejcha) Radtke.
On May 12, 1945, in Toto, she married Cecil B. Button. He died on Jan. 17, 1976. Clara has lived in the Winamac area since 1944. She was a member of the Winamac Nazarene Church for 28 years and a Sunday School teacher, served on the Church Council, Missionary Board, Youth Missionary, Caravan Leader, and a Church Camp Councilor. Clara was a 23 year employee of Rice Corp. in Winamac. She retired from Hart, Schaffner & Marx Corp. in Rochester after 27 years. Clara was a proud member of the AFL-CIO Union Locals 618 and 785 for 50 years. Other memberships include Pulaski Co. United Way, Citizens Action Coalition, and the Pulaski Co. 4-H Council. Clara was a devoted and proud member of the Pulaski County Democratic Party. She had served as the Precinct Committee woman for Franklin Township. She was a former Franklin Township Trustee Advisory Board Member. Clara had attended many State and National Democratic Conventions as a Delegate. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and raising chickens.
Survivors include three daughters: June A. Button of Winamac, Sharon J. Thompson of Columbus, Ohio, and Frances K. [Joseph] Marcotte of Momence, Ill.; one son, James L. [Esther] Button of Stewart, Tenn.; five granddaughters: Jennie Thompson, Tishia [Jon] Drummond, Kelly Button, Brandie Marcotte, and Briana Marcotte; five grandsons: Christopher Button, Bryant [Jennifer] Marcotte, Brenton Marcotte, Bronson Marcotte, and Brock Marcotte; two great-granddaughters: Carlie Ey and Whitney Ey; two great-grandsons: Derrek Drummond and Brodie Drummond; one brother, Ralph George Radtke; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Emil A. and Lillian B. (Brejcha) Radtke; her husband, Cecil B. Button; one grandson, Benjamin Marcotte; two sisters: Norma J. Radtke and Agnes S. Nowakowski; and two brothers: Russell Radtke and Clarence Radtke.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 23, at Frain Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held at the Winamac Church of the Nazarene of Winamac on Thursday, May 24, at 1 p.m. EDT, with visitation one hour prior to the services at the church. The officiating clergy will be Pastor Denny Wilson. Burial will take place in the Mt. Zion-Franklin Township Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Winamac Church of the Nazarene or the American Cancer Society.

Matthew L. Palm, 95, a former Culver resident recently of Kenansville Fla., died May 15, 2007 at his residence.
