Jack L. Winters
Oct. 11, 1943 - May 25, 2007
Jack L. Winters, 63, 807 North Market Street, Winamac, went home to be with the Lord on May 25, at his residence. He was born Oct. 11, 1943 in Monterey, the son of Owen and Geraldine (Hatfield) Winters.
On July 25, 1964, in Winamac, he married Jerry Jayne Kruzick. She survives.
Jack was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Knox, Gideons International and the Monterey Alumni Association. He was a member and past president of the Winamac Town Board of Trustees. Jack had worked as a Millwright and was the owner and operator of Winamac Contracting Inc. for nearly 40 years. Jack enjoyed crossword puzzles, collecting stamps, coins and baseball cards. He also enjoyed spending time with family.
Jack had served his church for many years as a trustee and other ministries as needed. Jack was the valedictorian of his graduating class in 1961. He played basketball on the sectional championship high school team.
Surviving, along with his wife Jerry Jayne (Kruzick) Winters, is one son, Thomas L. [Kim] Winters of Winamac; one daughter, Susan E. [Mike] McCartney of Logansport; six grandchildren: Anne Murray, Devin Winters, Ashley Thompson, Joseph McCartney, Christie McCartney, and Michael McCartney; one great-granddaughter, Laini Joseph; three brothers: Wayne D. [Nancy] Winters of Winamac, Dick R. [Sue] Winters of Monterey, and James [Bertha] Winters of Ontario, Canada; two sisters: Shirley [Mont] Hoover of Winamac and Kathryn Wikert of White Plains, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents: Owen and Geraldine (Hatfield) Winters, and one grandson, Jason McCartney.
Funeral service was held at Frain Mortuary on Wednesday, May 30, at 11 a.m. EDT, with Pastor James Adcock officiating. Burial took place in the Star City West Cemetery in Star City.
Memorial contributions may be given to: Bible Baptist Church of Knox, Gideons International, or to the family to help defray medical expenses.

Edith Glass
Aug. 14, 1910 - May 24, 2007
Edith M. Glass, age 96, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at her home in Arkansas.
Edith was born on August 14, 1910 in Winamac, to Arthur and Edna (Pfost) Cox. She married the late Dale Glass on June 9, 1934 in Plymouth. Together they raised their three children.
Edith had been a resident of Mountain Home since April of 1990, moving there from Orland Hills, Ill.
Edith is survived by her sons, Ronald N. Glass of Mountain Home, Arkansas and William D. and Rosemary Glass, of Elkhart; her daughter, Sandra and Bill Nical, of Crown Point; her brothers, Leonard L. Cox and Arthur Cox, Jr.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dale Glass, five brothers, and three sisters.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. in New Oak Hill Cemetery Plymouth, Indiana, with the Rev. Dr. E. Dean Fager officiating. Van Gilder Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
A time of visiting and sharing memories of Edith with her family will be on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Jude Children's Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.

Anna Mae Smeltzer Cultice, 97, 503 W. Jefferson Street, Culver, died May 20, at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver.

Charles R. 'Ray' Chapman
July 3, 1918 - May 27, 2007
Charles R. "Ray" Chapman, 88, 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, died May 27 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. He was born July 3, 1918, in Winamac, the son of Charley Chapman and Mary [Zellers] Chapman.
On Feb. 5, 1937, in Winamac, he married Rita Margaret Meyer. She preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 2006.
Ray was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. Ray enjoyed operating his Ham Radio. He was employed at Von Tobel's for many years as a TV and Radio Repairman. He installed some of the first Televisions and TV towers in this area. Ray also served in the US Army in WWII.
Survivors include three daughters: Rita Kay Martinez of Stone Mountain, Ga., Carol Joan Vires of Winamac, and Janet Louise Gage of Fishers; two sons: Kenneth J. Chapman of Port Ludlow, Wash., and Jon P. Chapman of Winamac; twenty-six grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charley Chapman and Mary [Zellers] Chapman; his wife, Rita Margaret (Meyer) Chapman; one son, Donald R. Chapman; one infant son, H. Jerry Chapman; one infant grandchild, Joseph Michael Wilson; one brother Roy Chapman; and one sister Ladyne Eddington.
Visitation will be held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Thursday, May 31, 2-8 p.m. EDT. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held 7:30 p.m. EDT Thursday also in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac on Friday, June 1, at 11 a.m. EDT, with Rev. Bert Woolson officiating. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Burial will take place in the St. Peter's Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to: The Nature Conservancy or the Winamac Town Park Fund.

George Edward Gritton, Jr.
Aug. 15, 1936 - May 1, 2007
George Edward Gritton, Jr., 70, 118 W. Huddleston Rd., Winamac, died May 1 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.
No services were held.

Sharon P. O'Donnell
March 24, 1954 - May 26, 2007
Sharon P. O'Donnell, 53, 215 S. Market St., Winamac, died May 26, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was born March 24, 1954, in Rensselaer, the daughter of Robert and Gladys (Doyle) Delaney.
On Feb. 15, 1992, she married James R. O'Donnell. He survives.
Sharon was a member and past President of the VFW Post #1728 Auxiliary. She also belonged to Curve's in Winamac. She was a former employee of Eaton Controls in Winamac for 27 years, and also Modine Manufacturing in Logansport for 7 years. She enjoyed bowling and walking.
Survivors include her husband, James R. O'Donnell of Winamac; one daughter, Jennifer [Michael] Kasten of Star City; one son, Jeff Garbison of Winamac; one step-daughter, Angela [Scott] Compton of Star City; one step-son, Michael [Dorri] O'Donnell of Winamac; four granddaughters: Kayla Garbison, Morgan O'Donnell, Dakota Conner, and Brandi Compton; four grandsons: David O'Donnell, Kyle Compton, Michael O'Donnell, and Tate Garbison; three brothers: Kenneth [Janet] Delaney of Rensselaer, Steven [Therisa] Delaney of Attica, and Richard [Pam] Delaney of Macy; four sisters: Linda [Neal] Roy of Brookston, Diane Scott of Monticello, Patricia [Roger] Homier of Lafayette, Sandy [Ralph] Hall of Morocco, and Vicki [Randy] Allis of Morocco. She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Gladys (Doyle) Delaney; and one brother, Robert Delaney, Jr. Visitation will be held 3-9 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 30, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac on Thursday, May 31, at 11 a.m. EDT. Burial will take place in the St. Peter's Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or American Cancer Society.

Richard A. Straw
Aug. 18, 1914 - May 29, 2007
Richard A. Straw, 92, 528 N. Hathaway, Winamac, died May 29, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. He was born Aug. 18, 1914 in Winamac, the son of Herbert S. and Anna M. (Lebo) Straw.
On April 26, 1943, he married Agnes M. Reinholt. She died Jan. 22, 1989.
Dick was a farmer. He was a Charter member of the VFW Post 1728 in Winamac. He was a regular at Vickie's Restaurant morning coffee group. Dick was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed IU basketball. He also loved watching the Winamac Girls basketball games. Dick was a member of the Lawton Christian Church in Lawton.
Survivors include a daughter, Alberta Straw of Winamac; a son, Albert [Debbie] Straw of Winamac; four grandchildren: Leslie Miller, Jennifer Straw, Angela Straw, and Scott Straw; five great-grandchildren: Ashley Miller, Jamee Miller, Joel Miller, Abbey Miller and Julee Miller; one sister-in-law, Joan Straw, and one niece, Joan Strand. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes M. (Lebo) Straw; his parents: Herbert S. and Anna M. (Lebo) Straw; and three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, on Saturday, June 2, with Rev. Jarrel Hartle officiating. The VFW and American Legion conducted military graveside services. Burial took place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Lawton Christian Church of Lawton.

Richard L. "Dick" Sharpf, 72, 11397 W. 100 N., Medaryville, died June 3, 2007 at home. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 6 at the Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. EDT at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville by Paster James Ketchen.

Lucille J. Podell, 89, 416 E. Decker Drive, Winamac, died June 4, 2007 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.
Arrangements are pending at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Katherine J. Richardson, 72, Monterey, died June 3, 2007 at the Heart Center of Indiana in Indianapolis.

Kenneth Alva Groom, Jr
February 3, 1918 - June 9, 2007
COLLEYVILLE, TEXAS -- Kenneth Alva Groom, Jr, 89, a retired pharmacist passed away Saturday, June 9.
Kenny was born in Star City on Feb. 3, 1918. He followed in the family tradition by graduating in 1941 from The School of Pharmacy at Purdue University and owned Groom's Drug Store in Swayzee for over forty years. Kenny served in the Navy during WWII in the Philippines as a pharmacist. He was a sixty-year Mason from Grant Lodge #637 and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriner's in Swayzee. He was a member of Pleasant Glade Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife Catherine Groom, his son Kenneth Alva Groom III, and his parents Kenneth and Iris Groom. Kenny married Dorothy Dee Mahan and moved to Colleyville on Oct. 14, 1990. They have shared a special love for almost seventeen years. Family, friends and customers from Groom's Drug Store will remember Kenny for his quick wit and stories and the kindness he bestowed on others.
Survivors include his wife, Dee Groom of Colleyville; daughter, Becky Schultz of Mesquite, Nev.; daughter-in-law, Gay [John] (Groom) McWhorter of Keller, Texas; grandchildren, Troy [Hollie] Schultz of Star City, Todd (Susan) Schultz of Star City, Amy Schultz of Mesquite, Nev., Jason [Tiffany] Groom of Keller, Chris Groom of Keller; seven great grandchildren; step-children, Danny [Nawana] Mahan of Bells, Texas, Donny [Debbie] Mahan of Colleyville, Dwayne [Susan] Mahan of Westlake, Dusty [Debbie Sue] Mahan of Liberty Hill, Texas and Deborah [Bryan] McCombs of Liberty Hill, Texas; 12 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 at Star City United Methodist Church with burial following in the IOOF Cemetery in Star City. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the Church.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the building fund at Pleasant Glade Baptist Church, 3708 Glade Road, Colleyville, TX 76034 or to the Star City United Methodist Church, Star City, IN 46985.
