Madelyn L. Poor
June 24, 1927 - June 28, 2007
Madelyn L. Poor, 80, of 624 East 13th Street, Winamac, died June 28, 2007, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital. She was born June 24, 1927 in Winamac, Indiana, the daughter of Benny Lange and Addie Margaret Armstrong Lange.
On June 14, 1947 in Winamac, she married Kenneth M. Poor. He died on February 27, 1992.
Madelyn was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Winamac, Indiana. She was a charter member of VFW Post 1728 Auxillary in Winamac and was recently awarded a 60 year member service pin. Madelyn enjoyed bowling, dancing and socializing with friends and family. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee with her grandchildren. She and her husband Kenneth were the former owners of the Poor Spot in Winamac.
Survivors include her daughter: Sherry L. [Steven] McKinney of Winamac; her son: Courtney K. [Judy] Poor of Winamac; four grandchildren: Michael J. [Shannon] Poor, Leslie A. [Donald J.] Link, Brittany McKinney and Bryan McKinney; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father:, Benny Lange; her mother, Addie Margaret Armstrong Lange; and her husband, Kenneth M. Poor.
Funeral services were held at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac, on July 2, with Pastor William Daniel O'Connor officiating. Burial took place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Luke Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

Marjorie E. Easterday 79, Winamac, and formerly of Rochester, died Sunday, July 1 at St. Mary's Living Center, St. Mary's, Ohio.
William E. Butler
January 25, 1930 - July 9, 2007
William E. Butler, 77, 452 E 350 S, Star City, died July 9, 2007 at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. He was born January 25, 1930 in Indianapolis to Duge and Addie (Hestand) Butler.
On June 7, 1958 in Indianapolis, he married Norma J. Worthington. She survives.
A long time Army Airborne Ranger, Butler was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame on Wednesday, October 4, 2000, after a career of 33 years of faithful service to his country. Many of those years, he served in Airborne, Ranger, and Special Forces units. He began his career in 1946, at the age of 16, when he attended basic infantry training and ended his career in the active Army in 1989, at the age of 59, performing his last parachute jump, at Camp Atterbury, Ind. Some of Butler's awards include the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf cluster, Indiana Distinguished Service Cross, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Soldiers Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Ribbon with two stars, Vietnam Service Medal with three stars, Indiana Long Service Medal as well as many others. His badges and tabs include Combat Infantryman Badge with Star (Second Award), Master Parachutist Badge, Glider Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Jungle Expert Badge, Ranger Tab, and Special Forces Tab. Upon his return to Indiana, from Vietnam, in 1969, he was recognized as being Indiana's Most Decorated Soldier. Upon his retirement, he was inducted into the Indiana Hall of Heroes, and recognized by Governor Evan Bayh as a Sagamore of the Wabash.
Other career highlights for Butler include his being a Deputy Sheriff of Marion County. He also owned his own construction company in Indianapolis for several years. After relocating to Star City, he served as the Pulaski County Surveyor and was involved in the trucking industry for a number of years. Active in the community, he was a member of the VFW and Teamsters Union. Butler was to also be honored at a ceremony at Ft. Benning, Ga. on Aug. 29, 2007 culminating with the dedication of the National Guard Warrior Training Center in his name, at Ft. Benning, Ga.
Camp Butler will be dedicated in honor of his unwavering loyalty, dedication to duty, and accomplishments as a U.S. Army Ranger.
Survivors include his wife, Norma J. Worthingtin Butler of Star City; six sons: William Ray [Beth] Clark of Rochester, NY, Hubert [Pamela] Doughty of Remington, Frank [Patricia] Doughty of Royal Center, Roger [Carolyn] Butler of Royal Center, Chuck Doughty of Star City, and William [Dolores] Butler Jr. of Theresa, NY; three daughters: Rose Owens of Indianapolis, Jeanette Milburn of St. John, and Karen Smith of Star City. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara [Buzz] Baker of Indianapolis; and a brother, Duge [Anita] Butler of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Duge and Addie (Hestand) Butler; and two brothers: Fred Butler and Dean Hill.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. EDT Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, and after 10 a.m. Friday, July 13 in Little & Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E. Stop 11 Rd., Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held at Little & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, July 13 at 1 p.m. EDT. Burial will take place in the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Located at Greenwood.
Memorial contributions may be given to Disabled Veterans Fund or Riley's Children's Hospital.
Sandra (Watts) Richter
January 29, 1940 - July 2, 2007
Sandra Watts Richter of Fort Myers, Fla. fell asleep in death July 2 at home surrounded by her family. Sandra was born in Gary, Indiana, on January 29, 1940, the daughter of Dr. Elmer E. Watts and Norma Watts. She attended Lew Wallace High School and graduated from Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisc. Sandra was a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in elementary education. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and met Frederick Richter, her husband of 45 years.
After their wedding in Gary, they moved to Huntsville, Ala., where Fred served in the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal. They settled in Monticello, where she was involved in community activities and as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and served full time as a Pioneer for 25 years. She also taught school in Speedway and Winamac.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Frederick; sister, Marcia and husband, John Phillips of Decatur, Ill.; daughter Stephanie Claytor of Decatur, Ill.; sons Scott and wife, Amber of Cape Coral, Fla.; and Ryan and wife, Sylvia of Bonita Springs, Fla. She loved and enjoyed her six grandchildren - Jennifer and Michael, Ayden and Sawyer, Ryell and Symon - and was looking forward to the arrival of their seventh in August.
Sandra loved the beaches where she could walk and collect shells. She loved her ministry and will be missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions, in Sandra's name, to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses or cancer research.
Irene K. Sanders
June 21, 1921 - July 3, 2007
Irene K. Sanders, 86, of Rensselaer, died July 3, 2007, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born June 12, 1921 in Schuykil Haven, Pa., the daughter of Frank Heffner and Lilly (Hummel) Heffner. On June 16, 1937 in Pottsville, Pa., she married Milton R. 'Jim' Sanders. He died on August 6, 1999. Irene was a member of the Winamac Church of the Nazarene in Winamac where she was an active Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir. She was educated at Cressona School System in Cressona, Pa. She was a beautician for twenty five years at Irene's Beauty Shop in Medaryville. Irene was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon I. [Thomas] Valko of Schererville; her son, Milton D. 'Doug' [Sonja] Sanders of Buffalo; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; and a sister, Florence Moyer, Cressona, Pa. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Heffner; her mother, Lilly Heffner; her husband, Milton 'Jim' Sanders; five brothers; and four sisters. Funeral services were held at the Church of the Nazarene on July 7 with Rev. Jerry Ulrich officiating. Burial took place in the White Post Cemetery in Medaryville. Mildred B. Roth

Mildred B. Roth, 91, of 1074 SR 119 South, Winamac (formerly of Star City) died July 9, 2007 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born March 4, 1916 in Star City, the daughter of Milo and Muriel Grace Penny Bonnell.
On February 4, 1940 in Pulaski, she married Howard Roth. Howard died May 13, 1964.
Millie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pulaski. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers, Indian Creek Wheat Weavers, and Country Maids Extension Homemakers Club. She is a former member of the Pulaski County 4-H Council. Millie enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She raised her family in the same section of land where she was born in 1916. She provided her grandchildren with an extra solid foundation which encouraged every one of them to attend the college or university of their choice. Millie was famous for her family get togethers and her Easter egg hunts and Christmas gift exchanges as well as camping expeditions.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean [Don] Rife of Winamac; three sons: John W. [Barbara] Roth, Lt. Col. USAF Retired of Fairborn, Ohio; Thomas [June] Roth of Star City, and Timothy [Melinda] Roth of Winamac; two sisters: Margaret Bechdol of Twelve Mile, and Alice Montgomery of Logansport; three brothers: Argel "Spud" Bonnell of Chandler, AZ, Howard "Buck" Bonnell of Star City, and Wayne Bonnell of Star City; sixteen grandchildren: Rachel Rife, Isaac [Katie] Rife, Regina [David] Martin, Eric H.[Carrie] Roth, Brian C.[Jen] Roth, Erin B. Roth, Natalie Roth, Joe Roth, Kyle [Chelsea] Roth, Wyatt Roth, Sara [Mike] Hunley, Ashley Roth, and Parker Roth; three step grandchildren: John Sandberg, Lisa Sandberg, and Vickie [Craig] Sandberg-McNay; six great-grandchildren; and three step daughters: Joanne Daugherty, Winamac, Helena Repp, Monterey, and Catherine [Kenny] Stillwell, Royal Center.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Howard Roth; her second husband, Omer Weaver; a step son, David Weaver; a grandson, Tyler W. Roth; two sisters: Bonnie G. Hiatt and Dorothy Bonnell; a brother: Owen Bonnell; her father, Milo Bonnell and her mother, Muriel Grace Penny Bonnell.
Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski on July 13, 2007, with Rev. Ronald Schiml officiating. Burial took place in St. Joseph Cemetery South, Pulaski.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Archie C. Swartz, 93, of Lafayette, formerly of Francesville, died Tuesday, July 10.
Karl H. Hartisch III
September 30, 1970 - July 11, 2007
Karl H. Hartisch III, 36, died July 11, 2007, at his residence. He was born September 30, 1970 in Huntington to Karl H. and Jacqueline L. (Sheets) Hartisch Jr.
He worked as an iron worker for Iron Workers Local 147 in Fort Wayne. He was a member of American Legion and VFW and liked to ride his motorcycle and spend time with his daughter.
Survivors include: his parents, Karl H. and Jacqueline L. Hartisch Jr., of Rochester; his fiancˇe, Teresa Hartley of Fairmount; a daughter, Zoe Hartisch of Fairmount; two sisters: Rebecca [John] Owens of LaFontaine and Paula [Russell] Weber of Silver Lake; five nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were held at Casey Lloyd Funeral Home, Marion, on July 15, 2007 with the Rev. John B. Bell officiating.
Memorials may be made to Casey Lloyd Funeral Home for funeral expenses.
