Gussie N. Norzinskay
Gussie N. Norzinskay, 89, formerly of 606 W. Broadway, died at 4 p.m. Sunday in Miller’s Merry Manor.
Arrangements are pending at Marocco Funeral Chapel.
Paul E. Vail
Services for Paul E. Vail, 64, of 814 14th St., will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Refuge Worship Center, 1655 Michigan Ave.
He died at 2 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in his residence.
Born Nov. 23, 1935, in Forest, he was the son of Pearl and Mary Samuels Vail. On March 20, 1955, he was married to Nancy A. Willis, who survives.
Mr. Vail served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 3790.
He was employed as a tool and die repairman at SUS Die Cast. He also coached basketball and softball for Special Olympics.
Also surviving are his mother, Mary Rombold, Frankfort; one son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Krystal Vail, Logansport; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara Nguyen, Tina and Charles Horn, all of Logansport, and Ruth Ann and Sgt. Jeffery Dodson, Lawton, Okla.; one sister, Louise Carter, Frankfort; one brother, William Vail, Fayetteville, Ga.; one stepsister, Dorothy Titus, Logansport; one stepbrother, Fred Rombold, Logansport; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
One daughter, two sons and three brothers preceded in death.
The Rev. David Payton will officiate at the services.
Friends may call one hour before to the services at the church where military rites will be performed.
Fisher Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Harriet L. Thompson
Services for Harriet L. Thompson, 80, of 2 Chase Park, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.
She died at 7:35 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Chase Convalescent Center.
Born Dec. 20, 1919, in Cass County, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Kline Barker. On June 20, 1942, in Logansport, she was married to Glen R. Thompson, who died on May 11, 1995.
Mrs. Thompson graduated from Manchester College and had taught school in New Waverly.
She also was the co-owner of Thompson Music House prior to her retirement in 1981.
A member of the Bethel Temple, she served as church organist and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a former member of the Altrusa Club.
Surviving are one son, James R. Thompson, Logansport; one daughter, Kay DeBarge, Logansport; one brother, Charles Barker, Peru; one sister, Vivian Richeson, Sun City, Ariz.; two grandsons, Mark DeBarge, Logansport, and David Thompson, St. Louis, Mo.; two granddaughters, Lisa Toler, Logansport, and Carrie Miller, Brownsburg; and five great-grandchildren, Andy Parkevich, Chandler Glen DeBarge, Madison DeBarge, Emily Toler and Jacob Toler, all of Logansport.
Three sisters preceded in death.
The Rev. Buddy Holder will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral chapel.

Barbara E. Knight
ROCHESTER -- Graveside services for Barbara E. Knight, 55, of 511 E. 650N, will be held at noon Tuesday in Citizens Cemetery, Rochester.
She died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in her home.
Born Oct. 28, 1944, in South Bend, she was the daughter of John Shireman and Bessie Smith. On Nov. 30, 1963, in Rochester, she was married to Jerry Lee Knight, who preceded in death on March 28, 1999.
She formerly worked at Life Care Center, Rochester.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Tammy Mathias, and Pam and Frank Fugate, all of Rochester; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee Jr. and Angie Knight, Rochester; 13 brothers and sisters; and six grandchildren.
Pastor Rod Rubers will officiate services. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Hartzler Funeral Home.
Mary H. Stanton
GAS CITY -- Services for Mary H. Stanton, 78, of 217 S. Barclay St., Fairmount, formerly of Logansport, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Needham-Storey Funeral Service.
She died at 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Marion General Hospital.
The Rev. Leo Moore will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Opal V. Hall DeMoss
Services for Opal V. Hall DeMoss, 94, of 300 Cass Plaza, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.
She died at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born Jan. 17, 1906, in Kokomo, she was the daughter of Frank and Janie Hipsher Crousore. She was married to Austin A. Hall, who died Oct. 21, 1952, and was later married to John W. Sibley, who died Nov. 27, 1962. She was married to William H. DeMoss, who died May 28, 1971.
Mrs. DeMoss retired from the H.W. Gossard Company in 1956.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Helm Street Church of God.
Surviving are four sons, Paul Hall, of Corpus Christi, Texas, DeWayne Hall, Logansport, Tom Hall, Lafayette, and Bob Hall, Kokomo; 30 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Don Hall and Lee Hall, and two brothers, Benjamin F. Crousore and Roy Crousore, preceded in death.
The Rev. Gary Jordan will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral chapel.

Jerry L. Roller
GALVESTON -- Services for Jerry L. Roller, 60, of Walton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Murray Funeral Home, Galveston Chapel.
He died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at his residence.
Born May 9, 1939, in Logansport, he was the son of Loral and Gladys Yike Roller. On Sept. 8, 1961, in Logansport, he was married to Sharon R. McDaniel, who survives.
He had been a machine builder at Delphi Delco in Kokomo, where he was employed since 1977.
A 1957 graduate of Logansport High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963, then served in the reserves for four years.
Mr. Roller enjoyed working in his machine shop at his home. He and his son built 1 1/2 scale trains that you could actually ride. They also built the tracks.
He enjoyed going to steam and antique tractor shows.
Also surviving are one son, Brian Roller, Kokomo; one daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Jeff Marshall, Indianapolis; one sister, Bonnie Arion, Illinois; one brother, Ron Roller, Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded in death.
Burial, with a military rites, will be in Walton IOOF Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
George M. Hopper
PERU -- Services for George M. Hopper, 81, of 15 Oak St., Onward, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.
He died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Peru.
Born Jan. 8, 1919, in Cass County, he was the son of Thurman A. and Fannie Myer Hopper. On Dec. 4, 1977, he was married to Janice Thompson, who survives.
Mr. Hopper was a retired farmer and owner/operator of Hopper Seed Farm, County Line Grain, Onward Elevator and Hopper Trucking Company. He also was the co-founder of Migro Seed Company.
He was a 1937 graduate of Onward High School.
Private piloting, motorcycling and camping were a few of the many hobbies he enjoyed.
He was a member of Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren.
Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Marlana and Charles High, Augusta, Ga., Janelle and Steven Woodruff, Walton, and Tamara and Ronald Johnson, Shreveport, La.; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Judith and Greg Correll, McCordsville, Diana and Brad Wilson, Logansport, and Nancy Thompson, Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, Rhett High, Rhonda Wilson, Lara Lott, Troy and Ty Woodruff, Lisa Smith, Erica Olmstead and Kristen Gulliver; four stepgrandchildren, Jason, Jennifer and Katie Wilson and Nicholas Correll; two sisters, Marie Myers, Fowler, and Virginia Morris, Hendersonville, N.C.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
His parents and one brother, James "Bob" Hopper, preceded in death.
The Revs. Les Cooper and Larry Brandon will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery, Onward.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Born Nov. 25, 1910, in Cass County, she was the daughter of Harry and Bertha Boles McNaught. On Dec. 20, 1936, in Logansport, she was married to Lewis Norzinskay, who died May 28, 1991.
A homemaker, Mrs. Norzinskay also operated the Tap Tavern in Logansport for a number of years.
She was a 1929 graduate of Logansport High School.
She was a member of Baptist Temple for more than 80 years and enjoyed church work.
She also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Surviving are one son, James L. Norzinskay and his wife, Lynn, Logansport; two grandchildren, James L. Norzinskay, Westfield, and Renee Trammel, Whitestown; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry F. McNaught, St. Cloud, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Four sisters preceded in death.
Pastor Charles T. Sikler will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral chapel, where a VFW Auxiliary service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Temple.
Gene Winters
GALVESTON -- Services for Gene Winters, 71, of 405 E. Dutchess St., Walton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Murray Funeral Home, Galveston Chapel.
He died at 8:07 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his residence.
Born Nov. 30, 1928, in Walton, he was the son of Otis and Bernice Forgey Winters. On Oct. 28, 1950, in Walton, he was married to Marilyn Blinn, who survives.
Mr. Winters retired from Indiana Bell in 1986 after 34 years of employment. He had worked in network switching.
A 1948 graduate of Walton High School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790, Telephone Pioneers, Chateau 40 & 8 in Logansport, and Walton American Legion Post 418, where he served as past commander.
He also was a member of Walton United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed golf, Indiana University basketball, gardening and his grandchildren.
Also surviving are one son, Michael Winters, Walton; three brothers, Dale Winters, Jack Winters and Joe Winters, all of Walton; one sister, Frances Edwards, Walton; and two grandchildren, Kelson Winters and Gretchen Winters, both of Walton.
Preceding in death were his parents and one son, Mark Winters, who died July 10, 1972.
Pastors Larry Zehring and Michael Haas will officiate at the services. Burial, with military rites, will be in Walton IOOF Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Walter Norman Kirkpatrick
MUNCIE -- Services for Walter Norman Kirkpatrick, 86, of Muncie, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel.
He died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Westminster Healthcare after a brief illness.
Born in Logansport, he was the son of Walter E. and Della Mae Denney Kirkpatrick.
He graduated from Logansport High School, moving to Muncie in the 1930s.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was employed with Warner Gear, now Borg-Warner, for more than 40 years, retiring in 1975. He then worked for Miller Milk House.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Warner Gear Sympathy Club and UAW Union Local 287. A former member of Moose Lodge 33, he also volunteered for several years with the Red Coats at Ball Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are one son, Norman Scott Kirkpatrick and his wife, Pat, Lawrenceburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Leroy Nishek, DeSoto, Texas, LuAnn and Kenneth Cernak, Plano, Texas, and Mary and Daniel House, Muncie; five granddaughters; five grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding in death were his wife of 53 years, Betty Jeanne Kirkpatrick, who died in 1994, one brother, Robert Kirkpatrick, and two sisters, Helen Kirkpatrick and Mary Murphy.
Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
Lewis J. Hedges
WINAMAC -- Services for Lewis J. Hedges, 81, of 3713W 550S, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Frain Mortuary.
He died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Pulaski Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 14, 1918, in Pulaski, he was the son of Grover C. and Rose M. Brucker Hedges.
Mr. Hedges was a farmer, having lived in Pulaski County all of his life.
He was a member of Pulaski Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are one son; two sisters, Sylvia Raderstorf and Mary I. Fritz, both of Winamac; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and one brother, Ira B. Hedges, preceded in death.
The Rev. Jessica S. Young Brust will officiate at the services. Burial will be in McKinley Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday in the mortuary.
