Delores A. Carson
Delores A. Carson, of Portage, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002 in Miller’s Merry Manor, Portage. She was 81.
She was born in Waubay, S.D., the daughter of Edward and Justina (Sichmiller) Herold, who preceded her in death.
On August 4, 1962 in Lake Station, Ind., she married Thomas Roy Carson, who preceded her in death in 1992. Her first husband, Levi H. Rogness, also preceded her in death in 1959.
She is survived by two sons, Larry (Marrianne) Rogness of Monon, Ind. and Martin (Bobbi) Rogness of Valparaiso; a daughter, Karen (John) Russell-Carson of Chesterton; two sisters, Agnes (Sheldon) Judkins of Lake Worth, Fla. and Dorothy (Tom) Sweeney of Warwick, R.I.; ten grandchildren, Cyndi Rogness, Judy (Brian) Holmes, Marilyn (Scott) Whitlock, Amy Rogness, Lisa Marie (Anthony) Peretin, Randall Russell, Sheryl (Tom) Bernth, Michael Berg, Carrie Ann (Russell) Lagneau and Joseph Kovats-Rogness; eight great-grandchildren, Sara Whitlock, Ryan Whitlock, Amanda Russell, Cassidy Peretin, Madison Peretin, Christopher Bernth, Katie Bernth and Cole Steven Lagneau; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, especially Thomas (Patti) Blaha, Kaimi Blaha, Betty (Eli) Miller and Alice (Chester) King.
She was also preceded by a daughter, Bonnie J. Berg.
She had been an area resident since 1943 and was owner of Delores’ Beauty Shop for 20 years.
Funeral services, Pastor Scott Jones officiating, are scheduled at 11 a.m., Friday, May 24 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to time of service at 11 a.m. Friday.
Beverly J. Knish
Beverly J. Knish, of Valparaiso, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at her home. She was 52.
She was born February 13, 1949 in Gary, Ind. the daughter of the late Harold Benfield, who preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1991 and Sophia Benfield, who survives in Valparaiso.
She is also survived by a sister, Sharon L. (Michael D.) Sheppard; a niece, Kimberly Sheppard and nephew, Michael Sheppard, all of Chesterton; and a fiancé, Charles Hemminger, of Valparaiso.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Valparaiso, and of the Merrillville Chamber of Commerce. She was a writer/manager for A Better Resume Service in Merrillville for 7 years, where she helped hundreds of people find employment.
Memorials may be given for Ovarian Cancer Research.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Beverly J. Knish, 52, who died Tuesday, May 21, Rev. Joseph M. Pawlowski officiating is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, May 24 at Queen of the Apostles Chapel of St. Paul Church, Valparaiso.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St., and Friday from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of White-Love Funeral Home.
Perry L. Trowbridge
Perry L. Trowbridge, of Valparaiso, died Sunday, May 19, 2002 at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. He was 67.
He was born September 26, 1934 in Chicago, the son of the late Perry J. Trowbridge and Melba (Hamilton) Trowbridge who survives in Chesterton.
On August 25, 1973 in Chesterton, He married Peggy Johnson, who survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Richard (Jayne) Trowbridge of Portage and Thomas (Juanita) Trowbridge of Valparaiso; two brothers, Ralph (Janet) Trowbridge of Muncie and Robert Trowbridge of Mexico; a sister, Carol (Dr. Steven) Walker of Chesterton; two grandchildren, Bret and Erin Trowbridge of Portage; mother and father-in-law, Elmer (Marjorie) Johnson of Valparaiso; brothers-in-law, Philip (Sandra) Johnson of Valparaiso and Bruce Johnson of Chesterton; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Daniel) Olson of Romania, Dr. Myrna Trowbridge of Valparaiso; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Trowbridge.
He was a life long resident, employed as a roll turner at Inland Steel, where he retired after 37 years service. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of First Baptist Church, Chesterton.
Funeral services, Pastor Larry Starrett officiating, are scheduled at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 23 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Chesterton. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.
Visitation is scheduled from 2-8 p.m., Wednesday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Gertrude Borg
A memorial service has been scheduled for Gertrude Borg at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 25 at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Porter.
The service will be officiated by Pastor David Schick, of Lamb of God Church in Anaheim, Calif.
Borg died March 18, 2002, at the age of 88 in Anaheim, Calif.

Ethel A. (Wolfe) Blastick
Ethel A. (Wolfe) Blastick, of Valparaiso, died Thursday, May 16, 2002. She was 92.
She was born August 17, 1909 in North Judson, Ind. the daughter of Andrew and Goldie (Ringen) Williamson, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by four daughters, Ruth (John) Beck of Union Mills, Eileen (Donald) Clemans of Valparaiso, Joyce (Russell) Godsey of Florida and Sharon Coakley of Kentucky; 16 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Donald (Doris) Williamson of Knox, Lloyd (Delores) Williamson of Florida and Bill Williamson of Hobart and two sisters, Leona Austin of Hobart and Iva Magdos of Fla.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Vess L. Wolfe in 1952 and her second husband Frank Blastick in 1983; four sisters, Henrietta Newman, Nora Evanoff, Irma Gibson and Mabel Williamson and two brothers, Harold and Everette.
She was the owner and operator of Ethel’s Beauty Shop in Portage and a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Hebron.
Funeral services, Rev. Daniel Clark officiating, are scheduled at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 21 at Bartholomew Funeral Home. Interment will be at Robbins Cemetery, Portage.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-7 p.m., today, at Bartholomew Funeral Home. 102 Monroe St., Valparaiso.

Brenford Edward Sergent II
Brenford Edward Sergent II “Brent” of Chesterton, died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at home. He was 50.
He was born April 28, 1952 in Gary, Ind., the son of Brenford Edward Sergent I, who survives in Portage and Edith Barker Sergent who preceded him in death in 1978.
On June 9, 1979 in Portage, Ind. he married Betty Beck, who survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by a son, Brenford Edward Sergent III and a daughter Lauren Sergent, both of Chesterton.
He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Carolyn Sergent.
He was a lifelong area resident and employed as a coal handler at NIPSCO Bailey Station. He was retired from NIPSCO after 30 years service and was an avid chess player. He was an active member of Chesterton Southern Baptist Church.
The family acknowledges VNA Home Hospice and all who prayed for him. Special thank you to Catherine Beck, Leanna Beck and Mary Cook and Creed Tallent.

Donald L. Veden
Donald L. Veden, of DuBois, Pa., died Monday, May 13, 2002 at the DuBois Nursing Home. He was 79.
He was born April 6, 1923 in Chesterton, the son of August J. and Hulda (Hellman) Veden, who preceded him in death.
On February 15, 1986, he married Marie Pfeffer Koemer, who survives.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Sirocky of Tranquility, N.J. and Andrea Seubert, Washington, Pa; three step-sons, James F. Koemer and David Koemer, both of Lansdale, Pa. and Ret. Col. U.S. Air Force Michael Koemer of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren and a sister, Evelyn (Ross) McCorkel of Florida.
He was also preceded in death by a first wife, Jean C. Veden, March 1, 1983; two sisters, Alice McCorkel and Ina Tofte and a brother, Vernon Veden.
He was a 1939 graduate of Chesterton High School; 1949 graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington with a B.S. degree in business. He was a member of VFW Post #813 DuBois; American Legion, DuBois; served in Armed Forces Air Corps 1942-45 in North Africa, Italy and Greece and Army Signal Corps 1950-53 in Japan; Korea and Indo-China. He was retired after 32 years as Personnel Director for U.S. Steel. He enjoyed fishing, boating, stained glass and reading.
Funeral services, Rev. Terry Rhine officiating, are scheduled at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 8 at the First United Methodist Church, 424 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
