Knoefel F. Jones
Knoefel F. Jones, of Valparaiso, died Friday, May 11, 2001 at home. He was 85.
He was born April 8, 1916 in South Wanatah to Floyd and Roxie (Elliott) Jones, who preceded him in death.
On September 29, 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, he married Leona Brownbridge, who survives.
He is also survived by a son, Knoefel G. (Janet) Jones of Porter; a daughter, Beth Anne (Wilford) Sievers, of Valparaiso; a sister, Armeta (Robert) Barnes, of Valparaiso; two brothers, Robert (Jean) Jones of Valparaiso and Bill (Martha) Jones, of Florida; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lillian Hill, Gladys Bolles, Mary Jones and June Brown.
He had worked at Inland Steel, was a self employed milk hauler and worked in the maintenance department of the Valparaiso Community Schools. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, and a lifetime area resident.
Funeral services, Rev. Jerry Castleman officiating, are scheduled at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m., Monday.
Memorials may be made to VNA Hospice of Porter County.
Carole Gerber-West
Carole Gerber-West, of Valparaiso, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at her residence. She was 52.
She was born April 9, 1949 in Gary, the daughter of William Stewart and Mary (Masterton) Gerber, who preceded her in death.
She was married to Warner Karl West, who survives in Valparaiso.
She is also survived by two daughters, Andrean Blough (Martin) West, of Baroda, Mich., and Catherine Blough (Scott) Button, of Stewart, Fla.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Christie (Farrell) Nowland, of Valparaiso, and Catherine Gerber-Coker, of Portage; two brothers, William S. Gerber, of Portage, and Albert (Sandra) Gerber, of Valparaiso.
She was a lifelong resident and office manager employed by Dr. R. Gupta. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Valparaiso.
Funeral services, Pastor Duane Schmidt officiating, are scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel. Interment will be at Heritage Cemetery in Portage.
Visitation is scheduled from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Thursday at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Avenue, Portage.
Memorials may be made to the Porter County Cancer Society or to the VNA Hospice of Porter County.
Leona C. DeMass
Leona C. DeMass, of Chesterton, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at her home. She was 93.
She was born December 19, 1907 in Chesterton, the daughter of Axel and Wilhelmina (Sandberg) Sundeen, who preceded her in death.
On September 15, 1934 in Chesterton, she married Raymond DeMass, who preceded her in death.
She was survived by a daughter, Sharon (Donald) Lee, of Chesterton, a son, David Lee DeMass, of Michigan City; five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Rosetti; two brothers Raymond (Ruth) Sundeen and Carl Sundeen.
She was a lifelong resident and was a Homemaker. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Private Family Services, Rev. Michael Cobbler officiating, were conducted Wednesday. Interment was at Chesterton Cemetery.
There was no visitation. Arrangements were handled by Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home.
Marion L. Weitzel
Marion L. Weitzel, of Liberty Twp., died Friday, May 4, 2001 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center in Michigan City. She was 92.
She was born February 28, 1909, the daughter of the late George and Minnie (Swanson) McVicker, who preceded her in death.
In December 1925, she married Garhart Weitzel, who preceded her in death in 1997. They were married 72 years.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law Deloris Weitzel, of Liberty Twp.; three grandchildren, Ted (Bonnie) Weitzel, of Valparaiso, Tom (Sally) Weitzel, of Griffin, Ga. and Jackie (Dallas) Reeves, of Terre Haute; five great-grandchildren, Dr. Jeff (Casey) Weitzel, Mindy Weitzel (Fiancee Brad Hawkins), Stephen Weitzel, Michael Weitzel and Scott Weitzel.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Ted Weitzel in 1995.
She was a self-employed farmer.
Funeral services, Minister Scott L. Morris officiating, were scheduled at 10:30 a.m., Monday at White-Love Funeral Home. Interment was at Chesterton Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to The Salvation Army or the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County.
Emily L. Carlson-Schroeter-Carlson
Emily L. Carlson-Schroeter-Carlson, of Chesterton and Furnessville, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Sterling House in Valparaiso. She was 86.
She was born, February 5, 1915 in Hammond, the daughter of Henry and Lettie Carlson, who preceded her in death.
On September 10, 1936, she married Herman Schroeter.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (John) Ross, of Knox; a grandson, James (Amy) Ross; two great grandsons, Zachary and Jacob Ross; step grandchildren, Lisa Premil, Jackie Crook, Greg Ross and their families; a sister, Esther Darling, of LaPorte; a niece Nancy (David) Slater; brother-in-law, Henry (Irene) Schroeter, of Clyde, N.C.; step children, including Dorothy Crose and Marilyn (Tom) Vedell, of La Crescent, Minn. and their families; and special friend, Harry Brobst, of Valparaiso.
She was also preceded in death by husbands, Herman Schroeter and Arvid Carlson; half sisters and brothers, Ethel May, Walter and Williard.
She was head cook at Westchester Middle School and also worked for many years at Porter Hardware in Porter.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home. Interment will be at Furnessville Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-9 p.m., Monday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Katherine (Bea) Ford
Bea Ford, of Jackson Twp., died Sunday, May 6, 2001 at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. She was 72.
She is survived by husband, Harold W. Ford. They celebrated their 50 year anniversary July 16, 2000.
She is also survived by a daughter, Linda (Jim) Catlin, of Stevensville, Mich., two sons, Wendell (Debbie) Ford, of New Buffalo, Mich. and James (Linda) Ford, of St. John, Ind.; six grandchildren, Julie, Jimmy, Stefanie, Alyssa, Bethany and Danny; mother-in-law, Mary Ford, of Owensboro, Ky; sisters, Naomi (Phil) Wasnidge and Sue (Lenson) Ledbetter, of Ind., Sharon (Bill) Pirtle, of N.M.; two brothers, Hank (Velma) Arnac and Jim (Ruth) Arnac, both of Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Westville. She was retired from Kmart in Valparaiso.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m., Thursday, at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Westville. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
Friends may call at the church from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who loved her.

Clementene Heisler
Clementene Heisler, of Michigan City, died May 1, 2001 at Memorial Hospital, in South Bend. She was 57.
She was born November 20, 1943, in Michigan City, the daughter of Clement A. and Eleanor (Komasinski) Pliske, who preceded her in death.
She was married to Richard Heisler, who survives in Michigan City.
She is also survived by two daughters, Lisa (Scott) Hamilton, of LaPorte and Carla (Kevin) Kazmierczak, of South Bend; a son, Brett (Marialice Goethais) Heisler, of LaPorte; four grandsons, Jacob, Jordan and Jared Kazmierczak, all of South Bend and Benjamin Hamilton, of LaPorte; two sisters, Margaret (Eugene) Yagelski, of North Judson and Rosalie (Ted) Radtke, of Bradenton, Fla.
She was a resident of Michigan City for 57 years. She was a claims supervisor at Indiana Workforce Development in LaPorte and was a member of Queen of All Saints Church, Michigan City..
Funeral services, Rev. Michael Yadron officiating, are scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at Queen of all Saints Catholic Church. Entombment will be Friday in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Michigan City.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday and from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday with Wake Service at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.
