Rev. Lewis Hansen
Rev. Lewis Hansen, 61, pastor of Porter United Methodist Church, died Friday, January 26, 2001.
He is survived by a daughter, Heidi (Michael) Phipps, of Munster; sons, Trey (Janet) Hansen of Hammond, Ind., Erik (Lynn) Hansen of Schererville, Ind. and Ivan (Donna) Hansen, of Chicago; grandchildren, Heather and Michael Phipps; a sister, Diana Vadbunker, of Onarga, Ill.; four brothers, Merle (Jeanne) Hansen, of Louisville, Ky., Ronald (Marlene) Hansen, of Burbonnaise, Ill., Tom (Mary) Hansen, of Atlanta, Ga. and Mark (Diane) Hansen, of San Diego, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce and parents, Lewis and Helena Hansen.
Hansen served as a Minister for the past 35 years, currently at Porter United Methodist Church.
Funeral services, Dr. Thomas Rough officiating, are scheduled at 9 a.m. Monday at the Ridge United Methodist Church, 8607 Columbia Ave., Munster, Ind. Interment, Gilman Cemetery, Gilman, Ill.
Visitation was Sunday at Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, Ind.
Mrs. Mary Jane Quinn
Mrs. Mary Jane Quinn, 85, Died Sunday. Mrs. Mary Jane Quinn, resident of this county since 1862, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. J. R. Snyder, near Odell Sunday, Oct. 27, 1940, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 4 days. Funeral services were held from the Christian church Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Pettis of Lincoln, Seventh Day Adventist, officiating. Burial was in the Fairbury cemetery. Mary Jane Curtis was born in Porter county, Indiana, Aug. 23, 1855. She was born in a log cabin, where she grew to womanhood. During the Civil War, in which her father fought, she remained at home and assisted her mother in caring for the younger children. She married Reuben Quinn, March 12, 1874, and shortly after their marriage they moved to a farm near Gilman, Ill. In 1882 they came to Fairbury. After several years' residence here, they moved to a farm in this vicinity, and then to Reynolds. They returned to Fairbury in the spring of 1906, and they lived here until Mr. Quinn's death in 1929. Since that time, Mrs. Quinn has made her home with her children. She leaves five sons, Harry and Robert of Lodge Pole, Joe of Elk, Wash, Earl of Denver, Colo., and Ed of Julesburg, Colo., three daughters, Mrs. J. R. Snyder of Odell, Mrs. Kathryn Wagner of Hastings and Miss Madge Quinn of Arrington, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Alice Riggs of Valparaiso, Ind., 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Blanche Havelik, preceded her in death.
Dick B. Curtis

Dick Curtis Rites. Services for Dick B. Curtis, Forest Park avenue, owner and operator of the Curtis Wallpaper and Paint Store, 18 Washington, who died at 10:45 p.m. Friday in Henroitin hospital in Chicago, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at he Bartholomew Funeral home.
The Rev. Oliver Starn of the Valparaiso Presbyterian church officiated with Mrs. Geraldine Blount as organist. Burial took place in Graceland cemetery. Masonic graveside rites were conducted with M. E. Dinasmoore as worshipful master; Leland Buchanan, senior warden, Lorenzo Smith, chaplain; and Howard Clark, bearer of the three great lights. Memorial services were held by the Valparaiso Elk's Lodge on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Ben Kemp, Robert Brown, Harry Pappas, Paul Randle, John Froberg, and Tracy Swartout.
Ann C. Turgi
Ann C. Turgi, of Beverly Shores, formerly of Furnessville, died Saturday, January 5, 2002 at St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City. She was 80.
She was born January 13, 1921 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Roche) Eller, who preceded her in death.
On June 25, 1943 at St. Edmond Church in Oak Park, Ill., she married Dr. Robert William Turgi, who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Turgi and John Turgi, both of Beverly Shores; three daughters, Suzanne Marie Turgi-Myers (George) of Des Moines, Iowa, Lee Roche Turgi of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary Elizabeth Schilla (Ross) of Chesterton; two sisters, Susan Dunn of Ogden Dunes and Jean Sabesta of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Stephen Turgi, Aimee Dolich, Melissa Murray, Kevin Myers, Christopher Myers, Christina Turgi, Brandon Schilla and Brittany Schilla; one great grandchild on the way.
She was an area resident since 1950. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Ann of the Dunes Catholic Church. In college she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Locally she was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Father John Barasinski officiating, is scheduled at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at St. Ann of the Dunes Catholic Church, 433 E. Golfwood Rd., Beverly Shores. Interment will be at Furnessville Cemetery, Furnessville.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with Wake service at 5 p.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
Evangeline C. Jones
Chesterton resident Evangeline C. Jones, 96, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at the Life Care Center of Valparaiso.
She was born Nov. 2, 1904, in Chesterton, the daughter of George Ross and Catherine (Bonnifield) Williams, who preceded her in death.
On Oct. 31, 1924, in Logansport, Ind., she married Chester A. Jones, who on Oct. 17, 1991, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by a sister, Edith K. Faires of Detroit, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chesterton.
Funeral services, Pastor Terry Rhine officiating, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 434 S. Second St. in Chesterton. She will be interred at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in Chesterton.
Wayne A. Marsh
Duneland Schools communications teacher, Wayne A. Marsh died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his home in Michigan City. He was 59.
He was born January 16, 1942 in Michigan City, the son of Arthur E. and Vivian E. (Fedder) Marsh, who preceded him in death.
On August 29, 1964 in Michigan City he married Joy Danner, who survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Cheryl Brown, of Seymour, Ind., Lori Marsh and Taryn (Charles, Jr.) Sparkman, both of Michigan City; two sons, Bryce Marsh, of Wanatah and Todd (Janet) Marsh, of Westville; seven grandchildren; special friends, Ric Falls, of Wanatah, Lula Lewis, of Michigan City, Anne Salmon, of Rennes, France; an Uncle, Virgil Carley, of Buchanan, Mich. and numerous cousins survive.
He was a communications teacher for 38 years at Liberty Middle School. He was a member of National Education Association, Indiana State Teacher’s Association and Delta Chi Fraternity.
Funeral services, Rev. Ruth Novak officiating, are scheduled at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-8 p.m., Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of Service on Wednesday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or to the Duneland School System for Scholarships.
Robert H. Busch III
Robert H. Busch III, of Vandalia, Ohio, formerly of Chesterton, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001. He was 48.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Luci Busch; mother Nancy Busch, of Valparaiso; father Robert H. Busch Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Portage; daughters and son-in-law, Erica and Benj Miller, of Auburn, Al, and Gretchen Busch, of Vandalia; a son, Robert (Bo) Busch IV at home; sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Marty Wagner, of Ind.; brothers, Gary Busch, of Fla. and Tom Busch, of Calif.; also numerous relatives and friends.
He was a 1971 graduate of Chesterton High School and a 1977 Indiana University alumni, he served in the United States Marine Corps and has been employed for over 20 years in sales and marketing.
The Family will Receive Friends from 6-8 p.m. today, [June 18, 2001] at the funeral home and the Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Terebinski Funeral Home, 11900 N. Dixie Dr., Butler Twp., which is located between Vandalia and Tip City, Ohio (near Dayton).
Interment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
Regina Eileen Kelly
Regina Eileen Kelly, of Ogden Dunes, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Methodist Hospital Southlake, Merrillville. She was 76.
She was born August 21, 1924 in Uniontown, Pa., the daughter of Carl J. and Clara Boast, who preceded her in death.
On December 26, 1950 in Uniontown, Pa., she married Charles Carroll Kelly, who survives in Ogden Dunes.
She is also survived by five sons, David (Anne) Kelly, of Ashland, Ore., Thomas (Lori) Kelly, of Chesterton, Timothy (Alexandria) Kelly, of Wheaton, Ill., Charles “Chip” Kelly II of San Francisco, Ca., Jack Kelly, of Boulder, Co.; a daughter, Jane (John) Muller, of Ogden Dunes; three sisters, Katherine Himes, of Youngstown, Ohio, Mary Lou Needham, of Uniontown, Pa., Marjorie Furin, of Uniontown, Pa.; three grandchildren, Timothy Kelly, William Kelly and Marjorie Muller.
She was also preceded in death by Jack and Carl Boast.
A resident since 1967, she was employed as a registered nurse for 18 years at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a volunteer for the Answer For Pregnancy Aid for 12 years. Her family was the most important part of her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Rev. Father Lawrence Heeg, is scheduled at 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton. Cremation will follow services at Heritage Crematory, Portage, with interment of ashes at St. Patrick Church Cemetery, Chesterton.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m., Thursday with Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
