Arthur S. Wagner Jr.
Arthur S. Wagner Jr., of Chesterton, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. He was 68.
He was born June 10, 1932 in East Eden, New York, the son of Arthur S. and Bertha (Russki) Wagner Sr.
On May 16, 1953, in Lackawanna, N.Y., he married Doris A. Falcone, who survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by two daughters, Valerie (Herman “Arch”) Waters, of Valparaiso, and Sharon M. (James) Elliott, of Indianapolis; a son, Dr. Michael A. Wagner, of Providence, R.I., two brothers, Gary Wagner, of Buffalo, N.Y., Robert (Meg) McDonald, of Getzville, N.Y.; half sister, Irene; four grandchildren, Matthew and Luke Waters, Nicholas Mitchel and Danielle Elliott.
He was also preceded by three brothers, Hank, James and Gary Wagner; sister, Beverly Kruger; two half sisters, Adeline and Elenore.
Arthur, a resident since 1968, was employed as a supervisor of the 80’’ Hot Strip (retired) at Bethlehem Steel. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton Moose Lodge #1623, American Legion Chesterton Post #170, Porter VFW, Knights of Columbus. Art enjoyed 17 years of retirement.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Rev. Father Eduardo Malagon officiating, is scheduled at 10 a.m., Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton. Interment at Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-8 p.m. Friday, Wake Service at 6:30 p.m., at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home.
Dale R. Huber
Dale R. Huber, 61, of Hebron, formerly of Porter, died Sunday, April 15, 2001 at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso.
He was born June 11, 1939 in Gary, the son of Nick and Zora (Hudjber) Matanich, who preceded him in death.
On October 15, 1960 in Gary, he married Sandra Harrell, who preceded him in death December 31, 1995.
He is survived by two sons, Greg Huber, of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Mark Huber, of Valparaiso.
He had been a Hebron resident since 1992, having moved from Porter where he lived for over 20 years, and prior to that in Glen Park. He owned and operated the Old Heritage Inn in Hebron, was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Crown Point and Hebron Lions Club.
In accordance with Dale’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice.

Stacy Jo Chupp
Stacy Jo Chupp died Tuesday, April 10, 2001. She was 39.
She was married to Robert Chupp, who survives in Bristol, Indiana.
She was the daughter of Jerry Campbell, of Portage, Ind. and the late Ruth (Coslet) Campbell.
She is also survived by two sons, Stephen and Sean deBryun; two brothers, Michael D. Campbell, of Lake Station, Ind., Brett R. (Deanna) Campbell, of Goshen, Ind.; a sister, Jori S. (Lance) Raymer, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; nieces Dawn, Heather, Andrea, Chasity (husband Sonny), Christian, Dustin, Charity and Dalton; in-laws, Bill and Cindy Kaybay, of Elkhart, Ind.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Kirk A. Campbell.
A Memorial Service (with reception to follow) is scheduled at noon, Saturday at Chesterton American Legion Post #170, 798 Wabash, Chesterton.

William Earl “Tiny” Akers
William Earl “Tiny” Akers, of Porter, died Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. He was 38.
He was born in Gary, on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1962 to Bill E. Akers, of Rennselaer, Ind., and the late Alice C. (Welch) Akers.
Also surviving are two daughters, Morgan Allene Akers and Megan Catherine Akers, both of Chesterton; three sons, Branden Lee, Shane Derek and William Cody Akers, all of Chesterton; a brother, Mark E. (Beverly) Akers, of Valparaiso; a sister, Marialyce C. Akers-Hulse, of Portage, Ind; ex-wife Charity Staff of Chesterton; William (Kathleenen) W. Welch, of Antioch, Ill.; Mary Anne E. Welch, of Valparaiso; grandmother, Allene A. Akers, of Hobart; Ronnie Akers, of Hobart; Rocky Akers, of Hobart; Donna (Jack) Smith, of Portage; Goldie (Bill) Bishop, of Valparaiso; Helen Pagan, of Calif.; Earl Dean Moore, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Jimmy (Linda) Akers, of Portage; special cousin Delfina Kegebein, of Hobart; many other cousins, and friends affiliated with Leroys Hot Stuff.
He was also preceded in death by grandfathers Ellis E. Akers and William C. Welch; grandmother, Marion E. Welch; cousins, Clifford W. Akers and David Bradford; uncle, Tommy A. Akers.
Tiny was a 1981 graduate of Portage High School. William worked many jobs throughout his life, to support his family by whom he was dearly loved. He was a free-spirited man who loved life and his too numerous to mention friends at Leroys Hot Stuff.
A Christian Service, Rev. Jerry Moe officiating, is scheduled at noon Friday at Ridge Lawn Cemetery in Gary. Cremation at Heritage Crematory in Portage.
Memorial Service at a later date to be at William’s father’s farm in Monon.

Evelyn B. Uttley
Former Dune Acres resident, Evelyn B. Uttley, of Leroy, Ill., died Monday, April 16, 2001 died in Leroy. She was 99.
She was born October 15, 1901 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Herman and August (Bloch) Boldt, who preceded her in death.
She was preceded in death by husband Laurier Uttley in 1994.
She is survived by a son, Rev. James P. (Patricia) Uttley, of Leroy; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s United Church.
Funeral services, Rev. Nancy Kahaian and Rev. James Uttley officiating, are scheduled at 11 a.m., Wednesday at St. John’s United Church, 225 W. Lincoln Ave., Chesterton.
The Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at St. John’s United Church. Interment at Chesterton Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. John’s United Church.

Ruth C. Etchason
Ruth C. Etchason, of Chesterton, died Monday, April 16, 2001 at Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Valparaiso. She was 76.
She was born December 15, 1924 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Leslie and Margaret (Williams) Morgan, who preceded her in death.
On February 9, 1957 in Valparaiso, she married Donald L. Etchason, who survives in Chesterton.
She is also survived by a daughter, Linda Miller, of Centerville, Mich.; two grandchildren, Bert Miller, of Okinawa, Japan, and Nicole Miller, of Michigan.
She was preceded by a sister, Elaine Smith and a brother, Leslie Morgan.
Etchason was a homemaker.
Funeral services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home. Entombment at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Stanley C. Keller
Chesterton resident Stanley C. Keller, 62, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at his residence.
He was born March 3, 1939, in LaPorte, the son of George and Mary (Liesak) Keller, who preceded him in death.
On Jan. 21, 1961, in LaPorte, he married Shirley P. Bolin, who survives in Chesterton.
He is also survived by three sons, Stanley W. (wife Victoria Fancher-Keller) Keller of Chesterton, Scott M. (wife Cynthia) Keller in Westville, and Major Stephen L. (wife Denise) Keller in the Azores Islands; two daughters, Sharon L. (husband Jeff) Bennett of Newbery, S.C., and Sandra M. (husband Rubin) Sanchez of Lake Station; two brothers, Ted (wife Delores) Keller of LaPorte and Ed (wife June) Keller of Henderson, Nev.; a sister, Irene Murray of South Carolina; and 14 grandchildren.
Stanley, an area resident since 1967, was a retired teacher in the Gary School System, where he had been Teacher of the Year and for 25 years chairman of the science department at Lew Wallace High School. He initiated the physics field trips to Great America from Lew Wallace. He was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, a counter, and a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. In addition he was a member of the Wayne State Chemical Society.
Funeral services, the Rev. Father Lawrence Heeg officiating, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road in Chesterton. He will be interred at Heckman Memorial Cemetery in LaPorte.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway in Chesterton.
