Alvina M. (Evelyn) (nee Furgal) Grzywacz
Alvina M. (Evelyn) Grzywacz (nee Furgal), age 81, of Hammond, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2002 under Hospice Care. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph Grzywacz; one daughter, Cynthia (Charles) Esler of Chicago, IL; two sons, Thomas (Jane) Graly of Berkely, CA and Daniel Graly of Ft. Wayne, IN; one sister, Adele (Joseph) Kray of Hammond; four grandchildren, Michael Esler, Joseph Graly, Marcus Graly and Paul Graly; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Katherine Furgal, and two sisters, Ludmilla Hupke and Virginia Szymonik.
Funeral services Saturday, November 2, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. from the Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave., Hammond, IN (two blocks east of Hohman, one block north of Gostlin). 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Caismir Church with Rev. Vladimir Janeczek officiating. Burial, Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Evelyn was a member of St. Casimir Church and past president of the St. Casimir Ladies Rosary Society, who will pray the rosary Friday at 3:00 p.m. She was a homemaker and skilled in the art of crochet, needle-point and bread making. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir Church, Hammond, or Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior St., Munster, IN 46321.
Lona Frances Hogue
Lona Frances Hogue, age 78, formerly of Indiana, passed away on October 29, 2002 in Dallas, GA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2002 at 12:00 Noon at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Interment in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home, Dallas, GA in charge of arrangements. 770-445-4496.
Dorothea Beckmann (nee Schmelter)
Dorothea Beckmann (nee Schmelter), age 93, of Merrillville, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2002, at her home. Survived by four daughters: Madelyne (late Robert) Stalbaum of San Pierre, IN, Jo Anne Beckmann of Washington, IL, Marjorie (Gerald) Doty of Crown Point, IN and Lorraine (John) Uzubell of Munster, IN; one son, Donald (Ursula) Beckmann of Syracuse, IN; son-in-law, Laurence Saberniak of Crown Point; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters Marie (Anthony) Carmoli of Latham, N.Y. and Lucille (Francis) Bieker of Crown Point; brother, Raymond (Mildred) Schmelter of Crown Point. Preceded in death by her husband Leo, daughter, Dorothy Saberniak and two brothers, Carl and Robert Schmelter.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Geisen Funeral Home, and 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Crown Point, Msgr. Don Grass officiating. Burial, Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Friends may call at the Geisen Funeral Home, 109 North East St., Crown Point, IN on Sunday November 3rd, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Beckmann was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and Church Choir. She operated, along with her husband, the family grocery store in both Cedar Lake and DeMotte. She was active in the Business and Professional Women's Association in DeMotte. Memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church.
James D. Bertino
James D. Bertino, age 91, of Merrillville, formerly of Gary, passed away at the Franciscan Home in Crown Point on Friday, November 1, 2002. He was born on August 27, 1911 to Dominick and Margaret (nee Perucca) Bertino in Collinsville, IL. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and the Ookie Flying Club. He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps where he served as a B-17 mechanic in England during WWII. He was affectionately known as "Uncle Jim" by everyone at Phil & Son Locksmith in Crown Point. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Clementine (Tina) in 1992 and brother, Dominick Bertino, Jr. He is survived by two sons, Rev. Dominic V. Bertino of Hobart and James J. Bertino of Merrillville; daughter, Margaret (William) Coulehan of Crown Point; sisters-in-law, Stella (Don) Sims of Hobart and Margaret Bertino of FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. DIRECTLY at St. Bridget Church in Hobart, by Rev. Dominic Bertino and priests of the Diocese of Gary. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass. Interment, Calumet Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Burns Funeral Home, MERRILLVILLE/CROWN POINT CHAPEL)), (corner of 101st & Broadway), on Monday, 2:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Patricia (Trask) Blackman
Patricia Blackman (Trask), age 52, of Hobart, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2002. Survived by son, Michael Moore of Hobart; two grandchildren, Devon and Cody Moore; brother, Bruce Blackman of Boca Raton, FL and special friend, Pat Mason of Hobart. Preceded in death by parents, Viola and Norman Blackman.
Pat was a registered nurse at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart since 1986 and was a passionate lover of animals. She was a loving, caring and very special person who always put others first. Everyone who knew Patty truly loved her.
Friends may call at the Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service, 6360 Broadway, Merrillville, IN on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 4, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. at the Pruzin Brothers Chapel with Chaplain Jim Stoel, Chaplain Kris Graunke and Chaplain Sister Mary O'Hara officiating. Richard Alan Blossom "Rick"
Richard Alan "Rick" Blossom, age 43, of Valparaiso, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2002 at his home. On October 16, 1959 he was born in Valparaiso, the son of Robert Blossom and Vivian Brown Blossom. Rick was united in marriage to Jackie Spencer on June 12, 2002 in Valparaiso. A graduate of Valparaiso High School, he also graduated from Ball State University. He was a self employed architect/builder. Rick attended Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active with the Habitat For Humanity where he helped with building and getting donations. He enjoyed kayaking, piloting his own airplane, Tae Kwon Do and also loved sitting on the sofa eating popcorn and watching TV with his wife. Survivors include his wife: Jackie; one step-daughter: Shasta (Joe) Oelling; his mother: Vivian Blossom and one grandson: Maxwell Oelling, all of Valparaiso; his father: Robert Blossom of Florida; three brothers: Robert Blossom of Valparaiso, Ronald Blossom of Las Vegas, NV and Randy Blossom of Glen Ellyn, IL;
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Stephen Bongard officiating. Cremation will take place at Angelcrest Crematory in Valparaiso. Memorial visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, IN. Memorials may be made in Rick's name to the Hilltop Neighborhood House Childcare Center, 460 S. College Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
Geraldine C. Fennema
Geraldine C. Fennema, age 76, of Lansing, IL passed away on Friday, November 1, 2002. Survived by husband, Bud (Albert); son, Larry (Eva); daughters, Bonnie (Charles) Olentine and Amy (fiance, Brian Hackert) Fennema; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Preceded in death by sons Glen and Brian.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Munster Christian Reformed Church, Hohman and Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana, Reverends Herman Schutt and Lugene Bazuin officiating. Burial, Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lansing, IL. Friends may visit at the Schroeder- Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL on Monday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Leaf Resources, 2325 -177th St., Lansing, IL in Mrs. Fennema's memory.
Frank J. Filewicz
Frank J. Filewicz, age 83, of Dyer, Indiana, formerly of Lansing, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2002. Beloved Husband of Joan, for the past 61 years. Frank was the last remaining sibling of 12 brothers and sisters. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2002, 10:00 a.m. prayers at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Illinois, to St. Ann Church for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Entombment, Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Filewicz was a long standing member of St. Ann Church.
