Jude Frentz Sr.

Jude J. Frentz Sr., 61, of Clayton, died from natural causes at 6 p.m. Jan. 13, 2001, in Clayton. He had lived in Clayton since 1995, moving from Camby.

The son of Benjamin M. and Katherine (Thompson) Frentz, both deceased, he was born July 25, 1939, in Indianapolis. He married Ann Bronte Oct. 5, 1973. She survives.

Blanton was a truck driver for RSR Quemetco in Indianapolis for 24 years. He retired in 1997.

He was a member of Hazelwood Christian Church, West Newton Masonic Lodge7 707, Teamsters Local 135 and Morgan County Tractor Association. He was a former member of the Morgan County Sheriff's Horse Patrol. He served as a Navy Seaman Recruit with the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1956.

Other survivors include five children, Anna Marie Gerholt, Theresa Hashman, Bernadette Showalter and Lindy S. Lanier, all of Indianapolis, and Dana M. Frentz of Rockford, Ill.; a stepson, Rolla Alkire of Indianapolis; three brothers, Robert Frentz of Martinsville and James and George Frentz of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three sisters, Bernadette Govia of Bloomington; and Nancy Ryan and Theresa Frentz, both of Indianapolis; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. A son, Jude "Butch" Frentz, preceded him in death.

The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville. Jimmy Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in West Newton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. A Masonic service will be 7:30 p.m. during visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.

Dorothy Kendall

Dorothy Jane Kendall, 77, who was vice president of two Martinsville businesses until two years ago, died Jan. 14, 2001, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lee Rachel Kendall and Gregory Horvath in South Bend.

Mrs. Kendall had recently suffered a fractured pelvis in a fall. She had been in declining health for more than two years.

She was born in Tonawanda, N.Y., on Feb. 7, 1923. Her parents were Philip and Magdalena Rumbold, now deceased.

Dorothy and Robert S. Kendall had met in 1940 at the College of Wooster, Ohio, where they both were freshmen. In 1943, they were married at an Army chapel in Tyler, Texas.

Mrs. Kendall, her husband and son had moved to Martinsville in 1946 after a group headed by the late Wilber L. Kendall bought The Martinsville Daily Reporter from Harry Martin.

In addition to her husband and daughter's family, survivors include another daughter, Amy Robin Kendall of Indianapolis; a son, Mark Kendall of Mooresville; 12 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters, and a sister, Mrs. William Johnson of Tonawanda, N.Y.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority.

The Rev. Dale Knuteson will conduct a service Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Clothe-A-Child of Martinsville.

In 1985, Mrs. Kendall retired from full time duties at the newspaper. She was an officer at Reporter-Times and Adkins, Inc., until newspapers at Martinsville, Mooresville and Beech Grove were sold to the Schurz family of South Bend.

On the occasion of her retirement her fellow workers gave her a folder. They wrote: "Let us all remember, The times we've had together...But think of all us po folk, Who'll be wishing we were you."

Peggy Kemper

Peggy Willoughby Kemper, 40, of Morgantown, Ky., died Jan. 12, 2001, in the Medical Center at Bowling Green, Ky.

Born in Davis County (Owensboro, Ky.) she was the daughter of Carl and Beulah Mae (Phelps) Givens, both deceased. She married Kenneth Kemper, who survives.

Mrs. Kemper was employed at Ryan's Steakhouse in Kentucky.

Other survivors include three daughters, Stephanie Willoughby of Lexington, Ky., Cindy Jones of Morgantown, Ind., and Laura Flener of Bowling Green, Ky.; a son, John Willoughby of Morgantown, Ky.; four sisters, Margie Green and Frances Coble of Centertown, Ky.; Sue Hawthorne of Greensburg, Ind.; Joanne Brown of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Cecil C. Givens of Missouri, Johnny M. Givens of Bremen, David O. Givens of Owensboro and Tony M. Givens of McHenry; three half sisters, Lucille Hurchel of Gary, Ind., Louise Scott of Beaver Dam and Bessie Singleton of Centertown, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Ciara Jones and Isaac Flener. A brother, Frankie Joe Givens; and a sister, Dolly Hobdy, preceded her in death.

The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Chapel in Morgantown, Ky. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Alice Mason

Alice Marie (Brock) Mason, 91, of Centerton, died from natural causes Jan. 14, 2001, at her residence.

The daughter of Charles Edgar and Nancy C. (Davee) Brock, she was born Jan. 11, 1910, in Morgan County. She married Hubert Forrest Mason April 16, 1927. He survives in Centerton.

Mrs. Mason was a homemaker and member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Centerton, and taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and writing poetry.

Other survivors include five sons, Russell E. Mason of Shelbyville, David L. Mason of Mooresville, Joe Mason of Plainfield and Charles E. and Earl H. Mason, both of Martinsville; five daughters, Wanda L. West, Barbara J. Hunt and Pauline V. Sturgeon, all of Martinsville, Mary E. Arnold of Mooresville and Carrie A. Phillips of Chicago, Ill.; three brothers, Charles E. Brock of Stilesville, Gene Brock of Halogen, Texas, and Maurice "Ben" Brock of Camby; 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Clarence and Floyd Brock, and a sister, Grace Garrison, preceded her in death.

The graveside service and burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Centerton Cemetery. Elder Wilbur Wade will officiate. Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel in Mooresville.

Paul Elden McGillem

Paul Elden McGillem, 36, of Richmond died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 20, 1961, in Richmond, the son of Elden J. and June Reynolds McGillem.

A lifelong resident of Richmond, he graduated from Richmond High School and was employed by Mercurio's Pizza in Richmond. He loved music and enjoyed playing the guitar.

Survivors include his parents of Richmond; two half brothers, Darl of Connersville and Randall McGillem of Dallas; a half sister, Susan of Jacksonburg; maternal grandmother, Burnette Spurgeon of Richmond; an aunt, an uncle and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. John Wilson Friday at 2 p.m. at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, where friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

James C. Cantrell Sr.

James C. Cantrell Sr., 70, of Liberty died Monday, July 6, 1998, at University Hospital in Indianapolis after a long illness.

He was born Nov. 12, 1927, to Albert and Odessa Mullins Cantrell in Ashcamp, Ky.

He owned and operated Cantrell Carpet Service in Liberty for many years. He lived in the Liberty area since 1950 and before that in Kentucky. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Ratliff Cantrell; seven sons, James C., Tommy K., Robert D., David and Eric, all of Liberty, Charles G. of Everton and Roger L. Cantrell of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Jasper of Liberty and Leonard Cantrell of Warrenville, S.C.; a sister, Gladys Sykes of Belleville, Mich.; and 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Perry Cantrell.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel in Liberty with the Rev. Ken Myers, pastor of Maple Grove Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in West Point Cemetery in Liberty. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wanda L. Chapman

Wanda L. Chapman, 71, 709 W. 8th St., Connersville, died Monday, July 6, 1998, at Fayette Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 6, 1927, in Connersville, the daughter of Herschel and Velma Morgan Jackson, both of whom preceded her in death.

She was a member of Connersville Baptist Temple and was employed by Design & Manufacturing for 7-1/2 years, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include her husband, George E. Chapman, whom she married May 26, 1969, in Waukegan, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. William D. (Sandra) McKinley of Connersville and Mrs. Larry (Deborah) Reed of Richmond; a son, David M. Chapman of Connersville; a stepson, Jody M. Chapman of Knollwood, S.C.; a sister, Sarah Jo McKinley of Connersville; and four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Michael McCarrell; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica May Chapman.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Connersville Baptist Temple with Dr. E.G. Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Springersville Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home.
