VEEDERSBURG, Ind. - Vivnia R. Mullen, 80, a Covington Manor Nursing Home resident, formerly of Veedersburg, died at 3:55 p.m. EST Thursday (March 2, 2000), at Provena USMC, Logan campus, in Danville, Ill.
She was born Feb. 18, 1920, in Fountain County, to Dempsey and Bessie Payton Carr.
She first married Leslie Day.
He preceded her in death.
She married Carl Mullen on July 30, 1066, in Covington.
He died in 1989.
Survivors include: one daughter, Zelma Lewin in Maryland; one son, Dwayne Day in Maryland; two stepsons, Thomas J. Mullen and Carl R. Mullen, both of Lafayette; one brother, Leroy "Bob" Carr of Bloomingdale, Ind.; one sister, Susie Lindquist of Veedersburg; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded by one daughter, Marcia Newnum, six brothers, one sister, and two grandchildren.
She was a member of the New Century Church near Veedersburg, the Covington Senior Citizens and the BWI Horizons Club.
Her hobbies included gardening, playing cards, Bingo and fishing.
She worked as a store clerk in Covington, Veedersburg, and retired from the IGA store in Attica, in 1978.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. EST Sunday, March 5, at the Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg;
Officiating: Rev. Richard Throckmorton;
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. EST Saturday, March 4 at the funeral home;
Burial: Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Henry W. Martin
ATTICA, Ind. — Henry W. Martin, 75, of 5640 N. Grindstone Creek Rd, Attica, died in his residence on Thursday, April 5, 2001.
He had been in failing health.
Mr. Martin was born in Danville, Ill., on Jan. 12, 1926.
He was the son of Karnea and Verna Burghart Martin.
He was raised in Warren and Vermillion counties and had resided east of Attica since 1984.
Mr. Martin formerly worked at the Barrel Factory in Danville, and later worked at the Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica, until his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Martin was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army.
He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Lafayette, and had attended the church in Danville [IL].
He liked to raise a vegetable garden.
Henry married Ruby Ruth Tuggle on June 16, 1946 in Georgetown, Ill.
She preceded him in death on May 22, 2000.
Surviving are a son, David Eugene Martin, Attica; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Carol Sue) Gohn, Richmond Hill, Ga.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Tony (Melissa Renee) Toucheck, Bever Creek, Ohio; a brother, Robert L. (Rose) Martin, Covington.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Basil and Orville Martin; five sisters, Gladys Daniels, Bernice Tallman, Marie Gouty, Edith Summerlott and Mary Ellen Watson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Danville, with the Rev. Larry Clonch and the Rev. Thor Thorston officiating.
Burial with military graveside services will be at the VA National Cemetery in Danville.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Maus Funeral Home in Attica.

Beulah Marie Moffet
WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. — Beulah Marie (Jackson) Moffet, 87, of Williamsport, Ind., died at 9:48 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette, Ind.
Beulah was born Dec. 5, 1913, near Veedersburg, Ind. ,
She was the daughter of Elwood W. and Ruth French Jackson.
She married Stanley D. Moffet on Dec. 4, 1958 in Attica, Ind.
He preceded her in death in 1993.
Survivors include a stepson, Steve Moffet, Rolling Meadows, Ill.; a nephew, Doug Spear, Mt. Carmel, Ill.; a niece, Linda Averch, Fort Morgan, Colo.; two step-grandchildren, Steven and Jamie; her adopted family, Larry and Jaxine Zufall, Williamsport; Troy (Anna) Zufall, Brownsburg, Ind.; Tami (Kevin) Gouty, Williamsport; and Dusty (Grace) Zufall, West Lafayette.
Beulah was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Spear; a son, Claude Myers; and a daughter, Beverly Myers.
Beulah lived in the Williamsport area, most of her life and she graduated from Covington High School in 1932.
She had her real estate license and asisted her husband.
She was an office manager for Warren County REMC for 28 years, retiring in 1979, and previously worked for Zufall Abstract Office, Warren County Courthouse and Million Hybrid Seed Company.
Beulah was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church and she was a lifelong member of OES No. 162 of West Lebanon, and had recently received her 50-year pin.
She was also a member of the St. Vincent Hospital Guild and was treasurer for the Warren County American Red Cross for many years.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 10 at the Grady-Fisher Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Anderson and the Rev. Don Williams officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in Williamsport.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mac Van of Warren County.

Barbara J. Abbott
WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Barbara J. Abbott, 72 of West Lebanon, died Friday, April 6, 2001 at St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport, Ind.
Mrs. Abbott was born in Warren County on Sept. 9, 1928.
She was the daughter of Hubert and Eulala Clark Willett.
She was a life resident of Warren County and attended the Marshfield schools.
Mrs. Abbott was a member of the Prairie Lamplighters Home Economics Club.
She was also a member of the Jordan Order of the Eastern Star, now affiliated with the West Lebanon Order of the Eastern Star.
She was also a member of the Tab Christian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Arlis Abbott, whom she married on Oct. 5, 1951 at the Pence Christian Church; a daughter, Mrs. Coleen (Stephen) Jennings, Williamsport; a son, Denis (Nancy) Abbott, Broadlands, Ill.; her mother, Eulala Willett; a sister, Janet Hensley, Williamsport; a brother, Billy (Lelah) Willett, Williamsport and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hubert Willett.
Service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at the Maus Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Williams officiating.
Burial will take place at the West Lebanon Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home at 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 9.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Alice Armes
Alice L. 'Rennie' (Kochell) Armes
WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Alice L. "Rennie" (Kochell) Armes, 57, a resident of West Lebanon, died at 8:38 a.m. Thursday (April 5, 2001) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
She had been in failing health the past four years.
She was born in Williamsport, Warren County, on Jan. 14, 1944, the daughter of Russell Lawrence and Esther Elizabeth Davis Kochell.
She was a life-long resident of West Lebanon, and attended Marshfield and West Lebanon schools.
She was married March 20, 1960, in Danville, Ill., to Alfred "Curley" Armes.
He survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Julie (Jim) Salts of West Lebanon, and Teresa (Jerry) Stitt of Williamsport; one son, Wade (Katrina) Armes of West Lebanon; five grandchildren, Drew Moody Ross Stitt, Zachary Stitt, Bailey Armes, and Theran Armes; one sister, Edith Wittenaur of Brookston; and one brother, Kenneth Kochell of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Rex and Robert Kochell.
Mrs. Armes worked at the Walgreen Accounting Office in Danville, Ill., the past 18 months.
She previously cooked at various restaurants and worked at the General Electric Co. in Danville [IL].
She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting.
She enjoyed birdwatching while out on her porch.
Memorial service: 8 p.m. Monday, April 9 at Grady-Fisher Funeral Home in West Lebanon;
Officiating: Pastor David Adams;
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home;
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Henry E. Spiering
COVINGTON, Ind. — Henry E. Spiering, 83, and formerly of Covington, died at 10:40 p.m. EST Thursday (April 5, 2001), at the Medical Center in Danville, Ill.
He was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Danville, Ill., the son of Charles William and Rosina Wilhemina Christina Hersher Spiering.
They preceded him in death.
He married Mary Louise Kinney on Oct. 31, 1947, in Danville.
She survives.
Also surviving are: four sons, Charles (Brenda) Spiering, Robert Spiering, Ronald (Diana) Spiering, and Wayne (Sondra) Spiering, all of Covington; a daughter, Connie (Marty) Lenfesty, of Danville; 14 grandchildren; and three step-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Henry attended Immanuel Lutheran and Danville High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in New Guinea and the Philippines.
He received the Silver Star Medal and two Bronze Stars.
He was employed by C&E; I and L&N; Railroad as a service attendant for 41 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of Coopers Chapel Baptist Church, and he enjoyed his family, grandchildren, gardening and fishing.
He resided in Covington for 49 years.
Funeral services: 11 a.m., Monday, April 9, at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington;
Officiating: Pastor James Shaw;
Visitation: 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 8;
Burial will take place Monday at Lower Mound Cemetery in Covington.

Marcia E. Hanley
COVINGTON, Ind. — Marcia E. Hanley, 84, of Covington, died at 5:15 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 16, 2001), at The Waters of Covington, following an extended illness.
She was born March 25, 1917, in Covington, the daughter of Warren E. and Myra Wisher Myers.
She was a life resident of Covington, and a graduate of Covington High School in 1935.
She attended Indiana University and Indiana State University and received a degree from Ruskin Community College in Florida.
She was employed in the Indiana Legislative Bureau from 1940 to 1946, and a caseworker in the Fountain County Welfare Department for 20 years.
She was the American Red Cross Fountain County director for 15 years.
Her memberships include: St. John The Divine Episcopal Church in Ruskin, Fla., Richard Henry Lee Chapter of DAR, Alpha Gamma Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa and Fountain County Republican Women's Club.
Marcia married Joseph James Omahen on May 15, 1950.
He died April 24, 1953.
She married Harold G. Hanley in Danville, Ill., Dec. 15, 1962.
He survives.
Also surviving: four children, Marcia Jo (Keith) Weedman of Columbus, Ind., Joseph James (Judy) Omahen, Jr. of Lafayette, Mark (Janet) Hanley of Kirksville, Mo., and Robert (Denise) Hanley of Indianapolis; a brother, John T. (Carol) Myers of Covington; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wisher Myers.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Wednesday, Dec. 19 at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington;
Officiating: Rev. Robert H. Miller and Dr. Oscar Mathura;
Burial: Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington;
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. EST Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the funeral home;

Norma Jean Layman
VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — Norma Jean Layman, 83, formerly of Veedersburg, died at 10:24 p.m. EST Wednesday (April 3, 2002) at Meadows Manor North of Terre Haute.
She was born Jan. 10, 1919, in Newport, the daughter of James and Ruth Stokes Smith.
She was married to Daniel S. Layman July 10, 1937, in Williamsport.
He preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and a great-grandchild.
She is survived by two daughters, Clenna (Larry) Brewer of Veedersburg, and Sue (Mark) Gallagher of Terre Haute; a grandson, Dan Wildman of Williamsport; four granddaughters, Debbie Lasley of Veedersburg, Emily Lawler of Mt. Pulaski, Ill., Marissa Brewer of Veedersburg, and Elizabeth Gallagher of Terre Haute; a great-grandson, Kevin Wildman of Williamsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Layman was a bookkeeper and manager of HUB Savings and Loan in Veedersburg, until her retirement.
She was a member of the Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg.
Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8 at the Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg; .
Officiating: Rev. Gary Johnson and Mark Gallagher and Christopher Lawler; Burial: Rockfield Cemetery at Veedersburg;

Mildred Marie Williamson
PERRYSVILLE, Ind. — Mildred Marie Williamson, 87, a life resident of Perrysville, passed away at 2:03 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2002), at Union Hospital, Terre Haute.
She was born July 5, 1915, in Stringtown, the daughter of the late Ross Elmer and Maude Hack Davis.
She married Frank Williamson and he passed away Jan. 19, 1974.
Mildred is survived by three granddaughters, Rachel (Don) Maxfield of Rileysburg, Tammy (Steve) Howe of Lynnville, Tenn., and Debbie (Brad) Adams of Westville, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Brandy and Crystal Howe of Lynnville, Tenn., Justin Adams of Westville, Ill., and Christopher and Jackie Hughes of Gessie; and a great-great-grandson, Jaylen Smith of Lynnville, Tenn.
She is also survived by three sisters, Fauniel (Sylvanus) Daniels of Rockville, and Doris Davis and Laura Davis of Stringtown.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Howard, who died in April 1964, six brothers and three sisters.
Mildred retired from Morris-Flamingo, Inc. of Danville, after working there several years.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, raising flowers and gardening.
Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga;
Officiating: Pastor Paul Kent;
Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport;
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 at the funeral home.

Inez Irene Towell
CATES, Ind. — Inez Irene Towell, 86, of Cates, died at 9:55 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at her home.
She had been seriously ill the past month.
She was born in Fulton Township, Fountain County, May 10, 1916, the daughter of Floyd and Lucy McLain Mitchell.
Inez married John E. Towell Nov. 2, 1937.
He died April 23, 1967.
Surviving are: three daughters, Nancy (Bill) Pease of Dittmar, Mo., and Wanda (John) Clarkston and Brenda (Ronald) Storckman, both of Kingman; a brother, Russell (Marge) Mitchell of Covington; a special friend, Dallas Grider of Kingman; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dennis, three brothers and a half sister.
A life resident of Cates, she enjoyed bingo, going places, her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Cayuga American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Post #2395 Auxiliary, Cooper's Chapel Church and attended Cates Community Church.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5 at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington;
Officiating: Donald Hesler;
Burial: Coal Creek Cemetery;
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4 at the funeral home;
The family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
