Vivian Swango, 67
Trooper Jason Eric Beal, 24
Born January 16, 1975, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Michael ìGeneî and Marion (DeBaun) Beal. He married Emily Anne Weaver on August 1, 1998, and she survives.
Trooper Beal joined the Indiana State Police on December 13, 1998, and was stationed with the Bremen Post in Kosciusko County. He was a lifelong resident of Shelby County. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1993; while there, he played on the basketball, baseball, and cross country teams. He received an Associate's Degree in law enforcement conservation and was on the deanís list at Vincennes University in 1995. He worked as a correctional officer for Shelby County and reserve officer for the City of Shelbyville from January 1997-98. He and his wife were expecting their first child in June; he was to be transferred to Indianapolis Post 52 in March. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Shelbyville Boy Scout Pack #241, Sulphur Hills Sportsman Club, and the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Surviving besides his wife are his father and mother, both of Shelbyville; grandparents James Beal and Sarah (Burnine) Beal, both of Shelbyville; two brothers, Danny Wainscott of Shelbyville and David Wainscott of Indianapolis; three sisters, Amanda Beal of Bloomington, Tracy Wainscott of Indianapolis, and Terri McCathern of Shelbyville; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and great-aunts and great-uncles also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shelbyville High School Gymnasium, with the Rev. Robert Ziehmer, the Rev. James Horner and the Rev. Mark Dodd officiating. Committal service will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Carmony-Ewing Broadway Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jason Beal Child Memorial in care of Irwin Union Bank and Trust, 1027 East State Road 44, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Jean N. Tyner, 85
Born September 10, 1914, in Rushville, he was the son of Edward and Katherine (Moran) Tyner. He married Ethyl Mello on January 6, 1951, and she preceded him in death on July 31, 1968.
Mr. Tyner attended St. Mary School and was a 1932 graduate of Rushville High School. He was a Prudential Insurance agent before retiring.
Survivors include one nephew, Terrence Britton of Eden Prairie, Minn.; one niece, Sheila Derbes of Metairie, La.; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.
Funeral services and burial were held in Beaumont on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary School Foundation.
Grace Mills Haydon, 82
Born July 28, 1917, she married Richard W. Haydon, and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Haydon was an executive assistant for the Richard W. Haydon Company for many years. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Propylaeum.
Survivors include one daughter, Kehaulani K. Haydon; one son, A.G. Haydon; a brother, Charles J. Mills; four grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Friends may call at 7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the Flanner & Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary.
Wilma Julia Peetz, 78
The daughter of the late William and Mary Catherine (Brunner) Wagner was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Ripley County. She married Merle Louis Peetz Jan. 7, 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1995.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church, Napoleon.
Survivors include one daughter: Joan Menchhofer of Osgood; one son: Andrew Peetz of Osgood; four brothers: Richard, Cletus, and William Wagner of Osgood and Donald Wagner of Greenwood; one sister: Burdella Brancamp of Greensburg and four grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul and Maurice Wagner; one sister: Iona Wagner and one granddaughter: Laura Ann Peetz.
Visitation and a rosary service were Monday, March 6 at Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 7 at St. Maurice Catholic Church with the Rev. William Ripperger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Maurice Catholic Church Building Fund.
Richard Eugene Thompson Jr., 61
Thompson was born in Cincinnati to Richard E. Thompson Sr. and Virginia Laura (Akins) Thompson Dec. 11, 1938. He married Carole Ann (Klumpp) Thompson March 29, 1963, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, the retired store owner is survived by two sons: Richard E. Thompson III of Milan and Jeffrey Thompson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four daughters: Tracey Ridner, Dawn Arthur, Shannan Fraasman and Heather McConnell of Milan; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Donald Thompson.
Visitation was Saturday, March 2, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Funeral services immediately followed with the Rev. Harris Long officiating. Burial was in New Craven Cemetery, Milan. Memorials may be made to Rescue 30, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Frances L. Meer, 98
She was born Jan. 30, 1902, in Oldenburg, the daughter of Bernard and Julie (Dierkes) Meer. They preceded her in death.
Meer was a retired seamstress from Brunswick/McGregor Sporting Goods Manufacturer.
Survivors include one brother: Joseph Meer of Brookville and nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Monday, March 6, at Holy Family Church, Oldenburg. Funeral Mass immediately followed. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Rebold Funeral Home, Cincinnati, was in charge of the arrangements.
Milton Conner Hutson, 83
The son of the late Conner and Rosa (Bultman) Hutson was born near Spades Feb. 21, 1917. He married Doris (Wiedeman) Hutson Aug. 25, 1951, at St. John's United Church of Christ, Penntown, and she survives.
Hutson was retired after 21 years of employment with Hillenbrand Industries, and was currently employed by Sunman IGA. The World War II Army veteran was a member of American Legion Post 337 of Sunman and was a lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Jenny Barnhart of Sunman; one son: Jody Hutson of Dover; one sister: Ida Hutson of Hartford City; one brother: Cecil Hutson of Richmond; and four grandchildren: Ronnie and Rochelle Barnhart and Jared and Brett Hutson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Visitation was Sunday, March 5, at Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services were Monday, March 6, at St. John's United Church of Christ with the Rev. Judith P. Doll officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with graveside military honors by American Legion Post 337. Memorials may be made to St. John's Capital Building Fund or Hospice of Margaret Mary Community Hospital.
James W. Gordon, 37
Gordon was born Sept. 25, 1962, in Rushville, the son of Melba Jane Gordon. He married Paula (Dunning) Gordon, and she survives.
The 1981 graduate of Brookville High School served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Dec. 1981 through Jan. 1992. He was a semi tractor-trailer owner and operator.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother: Melba (Gordon) Truitt of Evansville; one daughter: Melanie Gordon of Ratcliff, Ky.; one sister: Jane (Gordon) Downard of Everton; two brothers: Thomas Truitt of Jacksonville, N.C. and Timothy Truitt of Evansville and two grandparents: William and Viola (Alter) Gordon of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Metamora.
Visitation was Sunday, March 5, at Cook Funeral Home, Brookville. Following cremation, additional services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund for Melanie Gordon or to the donor's choice.
Rheba Parmer, 90
She was born in New Salem, April 8, 1909, to James Kemper Sr. and Cella (Campbell) Kemper. She was married to Bertis Parmer Aug. 9, 1930, in Greenfield, and he preceded her in death Jan. 23, 2000.
The homemaker was a graduate of New Point High School and was a member of New Point Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters: Janet Maple and Doris Ann Fields of Greensburg; one son: Richard Parmer of Edinburg; one brother: James Kemper Jr. of Fairland; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Charles, Robert and Mervin Kemper and two sisters: Beulah Louden and Hilda Kleiman.
Visitation was Monday, March 6, at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at the funeral home with the Revs. Mark Vice and Mike Fields officiating. Burial will be in Rossburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to New Point Christian Church.
Elmer Earl Richards, 93
Born March 5, 1906, in Rushville, he was the son of Clarence and Lana (Roby) Richards. He married Marie Vivian Allen on July 31, 1947, in Indianapolis, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1978.
He lived most of his life in Decatur County. He retired in 1972 from Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg after 19 years of service. He was a member of the Mt. Aerie Baptist Church at Letts for over 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant with the Army Air Force.
He is survived by one son, Norman Richards of Columbus; one daughter, Rita Richards of Greenwood; three sisters, Nora Walters of Toledo, Ohio, Zula Randolph of Findley, Ohio, and Ellen Maxey of Indianapolis; and two brothers, Don Richards and Marvin Richards, both of Indianapolis.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Fern Fultz and Mavis Knotts; and three brothers, Robert Richards, Carl Richards, and Roy Richards.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bass and Gasper Funeral Home in Westport, with the Revs. Ken Tingley and Robert Welling officiating.
Burial will be at Mt. Aerie Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Hospice at Greenwood through the funeral home.
Dale E. Owens, 68
Born Jan. 8, 1931, in Greensburg, he was the son of Clifford C. and Bertie H. (Heavern) Owens. He married Judy (Gindling) Owens on June 27, 1959, and she survives.
He was a self-employed interior decorator. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. He was a former board member at September Place. He was a current board member of the Greensburg Housing Authority. He graduated from Greensburg High School. He was active in the Democratic Party.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Tony Owens of Greensburg; one daughter, Lisa (Mrs. Rick) Chambers of Greensburg; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dean Owens.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Kelley officiating.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s School or to the Decatur County Hospice.
Herbert Gene Fritz, 66
Born Feb. 20, 1933 in Shelby County, he was the son of Henry R. and Bessie E. (Howery) Fritz. He married Eleanor “Joan” Garnier on Aug. 30, 1952, and she survives.
He grew up in Rush County, but spent most of his life in Shelby County. He worked at Bohn in Rushville, Tokheim, Gen Pro, KT Corporation, and Overhead Door Corporation in Shelbyville. He was an avid sportsman, member of the board for men’s and women’s softball leagues, played in and coached for softball leagues in Shelbyville and Indianapolis. He graduated from Milroy High School in 1951. He was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David “Gene” Fritz and William Dale Fritz, both of Shelbyville; a daughter, Melinda Sosbe of Dunreith; two brothers, Chester R. Fritz of Shirley, and Clarence E. Fritz of Shelbyville; one sister, Mrs. David (Esther) Ramer of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home in Shelbyville, with the Rev. James Horner officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
