Edith M. Young, 88, Greensburg, died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at the I.O.O.F. Home in Greensburg.

Born, August 27, 1917 in Monroe Co., Indiana, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Mary A. (Fleener) Galyan.

She was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Bloomington for several years. She was a member of the Little Union Baptist Church in Unionville.

She was married to Forrest Ray Young on November 12, 1938 in Franklin, Indiana and he preceded her in death on June 27, 1996.

She is survived by 2 sons, Stephen R. Young, Greensburg, Randall G. Young, Beech Grove; 2 brothers, Carl Galyan, Brooklyn, In., Charles J. Galyan, Bloomington; 2 sisters, Mary Chitwood, Spencer, Frances Richardson, Bloomington; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; 1 brother, Clarence Galyan; 5 sisters, Norma Ragle, Bertha Goodall, Myrtle Monday, Pearl Richardson, Grace Lind.

Visitation will be from 9-11:00 a.m. Monday at the Little Union Baptist Church, 5511 N. Brummetts Creek Rd., Unionville, Indiana.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2006 at the Little Union Baptist Church in Unionville, Indiana.

Internment will be held in the Little Union Baptist Cemetery in Unionville.

Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg has been entrusted to handle the funeral arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southeastern Indiana.

Janet Vanderbur Beesley, 56, Greensburg

Janet Vanderbur Beesley, 56, Greensburg, died at 10:25 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 25 at Methodist Hospital/Clarion Health in Indianapolis.

Born Feb. 13, 1947 in Greensburg, she was the daughter of Floyd G. VanOsdol and Edith Dean. She married Danny Beesley on Nov. 26, 1998 in Gatlinburg, Tenn. and he survives.

An office worker, she worked at Delta Faucet Co. in Greensburg for 34 years, was a member of the First Christian Church in Greensburg and was a 1965 graduate of Greensburg High School.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Beau (Sheila) Vanderbur of Aurora and Michael (Amy) Vanderbur of Greensburg; three sisters, Sharon (Mrs. Raymond) Peden of Westport, Lois (Mrs. Robert) Porter and Gayle (Mrs. Joe) Hook, both of Greensburg and five grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew John Vanderbur and a niece, Sheila Peden.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Porter officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Vernon Culbertson, 96, Greensburg

Vernon Culbertson, 96, Greensburg, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 25 at Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Greensburg.

Born June 24, 1907 in Rush County, he was the son of Charles F. Culbertson and Blanche Troubaugh.

He was employed at the gas company in Rushville and was a member of the Rushville Eagles, Moose Lodges and Decatur County Conservation Club.

He is survived by three daughters, Ruth Lansing of Winchester, Wilma (Bob) Maple of Milan and Vera Midat of Florida; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Culbertson; a brother, Harold Cubertson and a sister, Lillian Colbert.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Danny Wolford officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery and Rushville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Bruce Ray Masters, 56, North Carolina

Bruce Ray Masters, 56, North Carolina, died Thursday, Dec. 25 at Mary Gran Nursing Center.

Born in 1947 in Grand Rapids, MI, he was the son of the late Ray and Marjorie Churneck Masters. He was a repairman in the construction business.

He is survived by two daughters, Darla M. Parker and Teresa M. McCoy, both of Fort Wayne; two sons, David L. Masters of Fort Wayne and Lee Masters of Roseboro; two sisters, Arleen Holstein of Dunnellon, FL and Eileen Johns of Westport; a brother, Dale Masters of Genison, MI and five grandchildren.

Funeral service is at 7 p.m. Saturday at Royal Hall Funeral Home in Clinton, NC with Rev. Paul Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in the Westport Cemetery in Westport at a later date. Visitation will be from the time of funeral until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dora B. Sloan, 76, Rushville

Dora B. Sloan, 76, Rushville, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 at Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Moster & Cox Funeral Home in Rushville. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ella Margaret Broyles, 86, Batesville

Ella Margaret Broyles, 86, Batesville, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 at The Waters of Batesville. Funeral service is at 3 p.m. Sunday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will follow in Rossburg Cemetery in New Point. Visitation will be from 12-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Point Christian Church Building Fund.

Mabel Butler Hurt, 96, Greensburg

Mabel Butler Hurt, 96, Greensburg, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

Born Sept. 3, 1907 in Decatur County, she was the daughter of Ozro J. Butler and Anna Braden Butler. She married Oscar Hurt and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1971.

A Church and Financial Secretary for over 25 years at the Greensburg United Methodist Church, she was an avid card player belonging to many clubs. She was also a member of Psi Oto Pxi Sorority and graduated from Hartsville High School in 1925.

She is survived by two sons, Donald and Robert Hurt, both of Greensburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg with Pastor Charles Wilfong officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Greensburg United Methodist Church.

Robert A. Richwine, 84, Westport, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 at his residence. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Sunday at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel in Montpelier. Burial will follow in Twin Hill Cemetery.

Annie B. Dietrich, 71, Greensburg, died at 10:25 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003 at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood. Born June 6, 1932 in Bowden, NC, she was the daughter of William (Willy) F. Kennedy and [cut off]

Hazel B. Fletcher, 81, Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Hazel B. Fletcher, 81, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, died on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at Park View Heath Center in Oshkosh.

Born on Oct. 22, 1922 in Belspring, Virginia to the late William and Lydian (Long) Bland. She married Wade Fletcher on June 22, 1942 and he preceded her in death.

Hazel was a graduate of Radford College in Virginia. She was a teacher for many years retiring from Lewton School in Dayton. She was a member of the Navy Mothers Club of America. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and cross-stitch.

She is survived by a son, Douglas Fletcher of Indiana; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Bryon) Taylor of Greensburg; two grandsons, Keith and Kevin Fletcher of Indiana; two great-greatdaughters; a niece, Julie Schwipps of Greensburg; a brother-in-law, Eugene Fields of Greensburg and a special friend, Kandi Zarling of Omro, Wisconsin.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, a son, William Joseph Fletcher and a sister, Judy Fields.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Milan. Mueller Funeral Home, 904 E. Main St., Winneconne, Wisconsin 54986.

Mildred M. “Mid” Galbraith, 100, Mishawaka

Mildred M. “Mid” Galbraith, 100, Mishawaka, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003 at her Tanglewood residence in Mishawaka. They were former residents of Greensburg for a number of years. No funeral plans at this time.

August J. “Gus” Spreckelson, 91, Greensburg

August J. “Gus” Spreckelson, 91, Greensburg, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Greensburg.

Born Nov. 7, 1912, he was the son of Louis Spreckelson and Minnie Hadler Spreckelson. He married Martha Louise Larrison on Dec. 15, 1934 in Cincinnati, OH and she survives.

He was a grain and livestock farmer and Decatur County and also Decatur County ASCS Field Measuring inspector for many years. He was also a member of the Smyrna Lutheran Church and attended New Point School

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronald (Barbara) Spreckelson of Greensburg; a daughter, Joan Hall of Greensburg; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Spreckelson and twin grandsons Tim and Jim Gosnell.

Funeral service is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Ronald Haseley officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Paul Kail, 80, died Nov. 17, 2003. Graveside services will be held Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. at Dugger Cemetery in Dugger.

Bertha Wilhoit, 92, Greensburg

Bertha Wilhoit, 92, Greensburg, died at 6:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at Morning Breeze in Greensburg.

Born Jan. 4, 1911 in Madison County, KY, she was the daughter of James Madison Wilson and Dora (Fields) Wilson. She married James A. Wilhoit on March 27, 1933 in Greensburg and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1976.

She was the previous owner of the Leo’s Ranch Drive-In and worked for A&P as a cashier. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Greensburg.

She is survived by two sons, Danny Wilhoit and Hubert Wilhoit of Greensburg; a daughter, Ruth (Mrs. Robert) Skotzke of Columbus; three sisters, Jewel Glennan of Midland, TX, Myrtle Baltus of Greensburg and Lucille Stewart of Greensburg; two brothers, Herschel and Jack Wilson of Greensburg; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, William A. and Carl R. Wilhoit; four brothers, Elmer, Robert, Hubert and Russell Wilson and a sister, Edna Shoemaker.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with Dr. Lee C. Riggs officiating at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Clarence “Jack” Bayless, 79, Greensburg

Clarence “Jack” Bayless, 79, Greensburg, died at 3:17 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003 at his residence. Born March 14, 1924 in Greensburg, he was the son of Claudis E. Bayless and Pearl Leota.

Jo Ann Giddings, 65, Westport

Jo Ann Giddings, 65, Westport, died at 1:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2003 at I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Born Oct. 16, 1938 in Jamestown, KY, she was the daughter of Hershel Glover and Elsie Mae (Chapman) Glover Whittle. She married David F. Giddings, Sr. in Westport on April 9, 1977 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 2000.

Born and raised in Jamestown, KY, she attended Sandcreek High school and was a Westport resident since 1951.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Lunsford of Westport; a step daughter, Gina Gaines of Greensburg; a step son, David F. Giddings, Jr. of Greensburg; a sister, Erma Dean Collins of Greensburg; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a step father, Porter Whittle; a daughter, Patricia Ann “Patti” Maddux; a son, Jeffrey Gorden Compton; a brother, Clifford M. Glover; a grandson, Bradley D. Maddux and a granddaughter, Brittnay Jo Compton.

Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in Westport Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.

Bonnie E. Clayton, 70, Atlanta, formerly of Greensburg, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington, GA. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Society at #3 Forrest St., New Canaan, CT 06840. Henry Funeral Home of Lithonia, GA is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Pringle Heaton Schwering, 93, Greensburg

Frances Pringle Heaton Schwering, 93, Greensburg, died at 1:10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, 2003 at I.O.O.F. Nursing Home.

Born Nov. 19, 1910 in Milford, she was the daughter of John Nelson and Bessie Herron. She first married Fred Pringle in October of 1927; he preceded her in death in November of 1933. She married Clyde Heaton in January of 1936; he preceded her in death in October of 1980. She then married Lawrence Schwer-ing in November of 1984; he preceded her in death in March of 2000.

She worked in a dress factory for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Greensburg.

She is survived by a son, Clarence (Wanda) Heaton of Greensburg; a stepson, Don Schwering of Greensburg; two step-daughters, Rose-ann Heath of Letts and Sandy (Bill) Klene of New Lenox, Ill.; a step daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Schwering of Greensburg; several step grandchildren; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and her three husbands, she was prceded in death by two daughters, Alma Pringle Sipes and Lena Pringle Coo-per and two step sons, Henry and Norbert Schwer-ing.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg with Dr. Lee Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Ceme-tery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
