Ernest L. McBride, age 88, 672 East Franklin Street, Huntington, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday (May 12, 2008) at the Hospice Home in Ft. Wayne.
Mr. McBride retired in 1982 from United Technologies in Ft. Wayne where he was a tool & die maker for 18 years. Ernest was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #2689 and the Moose Lodge #837 all of Huntington.
Ernest was born on March 15, 1920 in East Chicago, IN the son of Raymond C. and Ottie M. (Curtis) McBride. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during WW II. He married Maro D. Elick on May 29, 1958 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years - Maro D. McBride of Huntington; one son - Steve (Kathy) Rodenberger of Huntington; one daughter - Linda Sue (Steven) Leialoha of Sebring, FL; one brother - Marvin McBride of Wabash; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A brother - Leslie McBride, a sister - Florence DeWitt, and a great-great-grandson - Dakota Voght preceded him in death.
A private graveside service and burial will be held at Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, with Rev. David Ballinger officiating.

Eugene H. Drabenstot, 80, passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Parkview Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born to Harold and Irene (Hoover) Drabenstot on November 27, 1927 and lived most of his life in Huntington.
After graduating from Huntington High School in 1946 Gene began working for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad as a tower operator. He married Peggy Goodrich on January 29, 1949. Together they raised five children, four of whom still reside with their families in or near Huntington. In 1969, Gene and Peggy bought Nick’s Kitchen, renovating it into a major gathering place in downtown. They decorated the restaurant with numerous pictures of railroad scenes and artifacts and Gene loved to sit and talk with customers about the history of the town and the Erie Lackawana. After 35 years of service, Gene retired from the railroad in 1981 and over the next decade transitioned ownership of Nick’s Kitchen to his daughter Jean Anne. By 1990 Gene and Peg officially retired from the restaurant business, but unofficially Gene helped son Jimmy and daughter Nancy establish restaurants in their own right: Nick’s Junction and Nick’s Country Cafe. Gene loved to travel, especially by car or van where he could pack his grandchildren in the seats and amuse them by letting them play on the CB radio. Winters were often spent in Lake Placid, Florida where he and Peggy were very active in their community and church. During many summers they pulled their Airstream trailer cross-country to Vancouver, Washington to visit their daughter Linda. Crossing the Rockies and Cascades added to the sense of adventure on their trips.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years; five children, Linda Dawson, Vancouver, Wa., Mark Drabenstot, Ft. Wayne, Nancy Bonebrake and Jean Anne Bailey, Huntington and Jim Drabenstot, Roanoke. eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Maxine Elick, Florida, Geraldine Smith, Ohio City, Ohio and Sue Ann Ladig, Ft. Wayne. His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Bailey-Love Funeral Home, Huntington. Funeral services will be held at Bailey-Love Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Presiding at the services will be Rev. Kevin Dunlop and Pastor Gene Vickery of the First Church of the Nazarene, Huntington.
Entombment will take place at the Gardens of Memory in Marion.

Floretta I. Coe, age 86, Roanoke, died at 11:49 p.m. Thursday (July 26, 2007) at the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Mrs. Coe retired in 1976 from Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Ft. Wayne, where she worked for over 25 years as a supervisor in the accounting department. Moving to Roanoke in 1938, she had been a beautician in Wabash and Roanoke prior to working for the Lincoln Life Insurance Company. Mrs. Coe was a 1938 graduate of Lagro High School in Largo, and was a graduate of the Wayne University Beauty School in Ft. Wayne. She was a member of the Roanoke Christ United Methodist Church.
Floretta was born on August 31, 1920 in Tippecanoe County, IN the daughter of Ervin M. and Elizabeth N. Stemmerding Cruea. Floretta married Robert A. Coe on January 16, 1943 in Roanoke and he preceded her in death on October 25, 1997.
Survivors include her sister - Dorothy (Robert) Stamper of Huntington; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday (July 30, 2007) at the Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (July 31, 2007) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Kathy Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

Freddie Taylor, age 84, Huntington, of Norwood Nursing Center, died Friday (January 18, 2008) at the Parkview Huntington Hospital.
She was born December 23, 1923 in Glenwood, Arkansas, a daughter of Oscar O. and Rose E. (Pearl) Brown. She was a member of the First Brethren Church. She married Raymond Taylor on December 5, 1946 in Kirby, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in May of 1983.
Survivors include two sons - Kenneth R. (Linda) Taylor of Huntington, and Dennis K. (Cathy) Taylor of Wabash County, IN; one daughter - Mrs. Kenneth (Audrey) Wall of Mobil, Alabama; three sisters - Mrs. Tom (Eva) Carver of St. Mary’s, Ohio, Ina Joe Gilts of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Charlene Nazzio of Railto, California; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband, a grandson - Brandon Thorn, two brothers - Rupert and Jadie Brown, four sisters - Mable Parker, Etna Bloomstrand, Gladys Thompson, and Lesie Arivett preceded her in death.

Genevieve C. (Cosselman) Bixby, age 92, Huntington, died Tuesday (April 8, 2008) at the Heritage of Huntington.
Mrs. Bixby was a mother, wife, housekeeper and co/owner-operator of motels. She had lived in Avilla, Kendallville, and Greer, South Carolina, Stone Mountain, Georgia, Jacksonville, Florida, and Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She was a 1933 graduate of Ann Arbor High School, Ann Arbor, MI. She lived with Alzheimer’s for nearly two decades. When life gave her lemons, Genevieve always made lemonade.
Genevieve was born on May 7, 1915 in Genesse City, Michigan, the daughter of John and Alta (McComber) Cosselman. She married Garth Lester Bixby on June 17, 1933 at a friend’s home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1996.
Survivors include one son - Thomas G. (Carol M.) Bixby of Huntington; one daughter - Sandra J. (Bobby) Mitchell of Huntington; two sisters - Mabel Stone of Lancaster, MI, and Ruth Wilson of Flint, MI; fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild. Her parents, husband, one sister - Effie Helmer, preceded her in death.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Gerald W. Holden, age 85, 10 Orchard Lane, Huntington died at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday (April 8, 2008) at the Heritage Pointe, Warren, IN.
Mr. Holden retired as a zone manager for Goodyear, Uniroyal, and General Tire Companies. Prior, he taught four years at Scott High School in LaGrange County. He was a 50 year member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntington.
Gerald was born on August 26, 1922, in Topeka, IN the son of Russell and Ethel (Phillips) Holden. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1940 and earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in 1947 and his Masters Degree in 1951 from Indiana University. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and a pole-vaulter for the Indiana University Track Team. He also served as a sergeant with the Army during W.W. II. Gerald married Sarah Price on December 11, 1948 in Topeka, IN and she preceded him in death on October 11, 2003.
Survivors include his son - William G. Holden of Huntington; two daughters - Cynthia K. (Ron) Crist and Jeanne A. Coons both of Huntington; three brothers - Ronald Holden, Byron Holden, and Nolan Holden all of Goshen; two sisters - Betty (Leroy) Weaver and Eva (Delbert) Miller both of Goshen. Four grandchildren - Michael (Bethany) Crist of Huntington, Matthew Crist of Roanoke, Marcus Crist of West LaFayette, Lindsay (Justin) Coons Chaple of Muncie and three great-grandchildren - Julia Crist, Emily Crist, and Sarah Crist all of Huntington. Two sisters, Mary Ellen Fought and Burneta Hartman, preceded him in death.
There will be no visitation or funeral services. Burial will be in the Eden Cemetery in Topeka, IN at a later date.

Gladys E. Payne, 93, 30 Roche Street, Huntington, died at 1:25 p.m. Saturday (February 2, 2008) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Mrs. Payne was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington.
Born May 6, 1914 in Wells County, she was the daughter of James and Clara (Hafley) Tucker. She married Archie Payne in Huntington, and he preceded her in death in November of 1990.
Survivors include two sons - Franklin Garrison of Lansing, Michigan and Arthur Garrison of Deltona, Florida; a stepson - Porter Payne of Huntington, Indiana; two daughters - Mrs. Walter (Constance) Sands of Huntington, Indiana, and Mrs. Kyle (Margaret) Kirkpatrick of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. A son - Laurin Garrison, four brothers - Indis Tucker, Lorin Tucker, Garland Tucker and Harold Tucker, and four sisters - Eva Thorne, Helen Barton, Grace Pressler and Lilian Tucker, and five grandchildren preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 10 am - 12 pm on Tuesday (February 5, 2008) at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Road. Funeral services will then be at 12 pm, Tuesday (February 5, 2008), at the First Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Kevin Dunlop and Rev. Gene Vickery will officiate. Goldie Maria Gard, age 58, 537 Riverside Drive, Huntington, died Sunday (August 31, 2008) at 6:00 p.m. at the Hospice Home in Ft. Wayne, IN.
Goldie received her G.E.D. from Ivy Tech of Ft. Wayne in 1982, also an Activities Certificate from Purdue University. Goldie moved to Huntington in 1968 from Gary IN. She was a self employed Professional Dog Groomer (Goldie’s Dog Grooming) for over 16 years working out of her home. Prior to that Goldie managed the Huntington County Humane Shelter. Goldie was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Huntington.
Goldie was born on January 18, 1950 in Gary, IN, the daughter of Myron and Ellen (Kostelnick) Fulton.
Survivors include her mother - Ellen Kostelnick Fulton of Huntington; one sister - Mrs. Dave (Myra) Okuly of Huntington; and a companion - Robert L. Harney of Huntington. She is preceded in death by her father - Myron Fulton and a son - Christopher Mooney.

Harold E. “Pickle” Heiney, age 92, Huntington, died at 11:13 p.m., Thursday (March 13, 2008) at the Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Mr. Heiney was a lifetime farmer of Huntington County. Harold also was an extraordinary carpenter. Harold was a sergeant in the army during WWII. He attended Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Huntington, belonged to the V.F.W. Post 2689, and Bippus Lions Club.
Harold was born on January 10, 1916 in Huntington County, the son of Samuel Levi and Avis Mae (Lannerd) Heiney. He married Agnes Ann Pfister in Huntington County, on July 5, 1941, and she preceded him in death on November 9, 1986.
Survivors include three sons - David L. Heiney of Huntington, Dennis H. (Diane) Heiney of Montpelier, OH, Joseph E. (Judy) Heiney of Churubusco, IN; two daughters - Jean Ann Heiney of Wakefield, MA, Martha L. Heiney of Machesney Park, IL; one brother - Harry A. Heiney of Alexandria, VA; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His parents, wife, two brothers - Lannerd and Doyle Heiney, and sister - Mildred Amick preceded him in death.

Harold J. Overholser, age 59, of Ft. Wayne, died at 5:38 p.m. Thursday (February 28, 2008) at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Ft. Wayne.
Mr. Overholser was a truck driver for Huntington Ready Mix, then Hiner Transport in Huntington from 1972 till his retirement in 2005. He served as a Huntington County Sheriff’s Reserve Officer in the late 1970’s.
Harold was born on November 16, 1948 in Huntington, the son of Walter E. and Nettie Jane (Howes) Overholser. Harold was a 1969 graduate of Huntington County Community High School. Harold married Cathy A. (Paules) on March 22, 1980 in York, PA.
Survivors include his wife - Cathy A. Overholser of Ft. Wayne; three brothers - Richard E. (Lois) Overholser of North Manchester, Robert L. (Virginia) Overholser of Huntington, and Mark A. (Rhonda L.) Overholser of Huntington; a half-brother - John E. Overholser of Logansport; two half-sisters - Wilma (John) Lictenberger of Wren, OH and Mary Ellen Bitter of South Hutchinson, KS.

Helen R. Hosier, age 92, formerly of 1605 Green Acre Dr., Huntington, died Friday (December 8, 2006) at 12:45 a.m. at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Ft. Wayne.
Mrs. Hosier was a homemaker and a resident of Huntington for most of her life. She was a member of the St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ, Past Worthy Matron with the Order of Eastern Star Floral Chapter #75, and the Ladies of the Moose, all in Huntington.
Helen was born on May 12, 1914 in Wabash County, IN, the daughter of Charles H. and Fern F. (Lukenbill) Rice. On September 23, 1924, in Huntington, IN, she and Claude A. Hosier were married. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2003.
Survivors include three sons - Ronald D.(Nancy) Hosier of Huntington, Kenneth E. Hosier of Huntington and Phillip D. (Cindy) Hosier of Ft. Wayne, IN; one daughter - Claudia Ann Growney at Orion, Michigan; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren. A daughter - Charlene K. Hosier, brothers - Herb Rice, Max Rice, Don Rice and Rex Rice, and sister - Naomi Rice, preceded her in death.

Jack Lynn Larkey, age 76, 1621 East State Street, Huntington, died at 12:10 a.m. Friday (January 18, 2008) at Miller’s Merry Manor in Huntington.
Mr. Larkey retired in 1994 from the Dana Corporation in Ft. Wayne, IN where he worked for over 20 years in production. Jack was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 7 in Huntington.
Jack was born on August 9, 1931 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of John Virgil and Lucille (Sucudder) Larkey.
Survivors include his granddaughter - Christina N. (T.J.) Baumgardner of Huntington; six brothers - Rex Larkey of Roanoke, H. R. Larkey of Huntington, Jerry Larkey of Huntington, John Larkey of South Whitley, Randy Larkey of Huntington, and Danny Larkey of Huntington; one sister - Barbara (Bob) Covey of Huntington. A son - Jack Curtis, three brothers - Billy, Tommy, and Larry Larkey; and two sisters - Clair Joan Teusch and Jane Smith, preceded him in death.
Military graveside services, conducted by the V.F.W. Post 2689, will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday (January 21, 2008) at the Gardens of Memory. Pastor Jerry Felts will officiate. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Memory, Huntington County.

James Edgar Hower, 50, 231 South Broadway, Huntington, died at 3:00 a.m. Sunday (May 11, 2008) at his home residence.
James was employed as a machinist for various places. He was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntington and the American Legion Post # 160 in Roanoke, IN. James loved woodworking and the outdoors - fishing, golfing, gardening and canoeing.
James was born August 19, 1957 in Huntington, the son of Vaughn R. and Myra J. (Sunderman) Hower. He graduated from Huntington North High School in 1975 and attended I.T.T. in Ft. Wayne.
Survivors include his mother - Myra J. Turner of Warren, IN; three brothers - George H. Hower of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Stephen D. Hower of St. Albans, Misssouri and David M. Hower of Huntington; three sisters - Cynthia (Alan) Claus of Ft. Wayne, Kathyrn (Dave) Runion of Huntington and Carla (Dale) Meyer of Ft. Wayne and several nephews and nieces. His father preceded him in death.

James Richard Jones, age 75, of Huntington, died at 1:10 am on Sunday (March 9, 2008) at the Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne.
He was born April 21, 1932 in Fremont, Ohio, the son of Chris and Leora (Baker) Jones. James was a graduate of Freemont-Ross High School, Freemont, Ohio, and attended Western Michigan College. Mr. Jones was the owner of Landmark Realty in Huntington. He retired as a Huntington Coutny realtor / appraiser / auctioneer. James was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a First Lieutenant in the Army. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2689, Norwood Golf Course, past board member of the Huntington County Visitor Center, and past board member of the Huntington County Realtors. James married Bonita (Bonnie) Shaffer on September 15, 1987, in Roger City, MI.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years - Bonita (Bonnie) Jones of Huntington; one son - David (Terri) Jones of Goose Creek, SC; two daughters - Teri Lowe of Celina, OH, and Mrs. Dan (Lisa) Batchelder of Ft. Wayne; five grandchildren. His parents, a daughter - Karen, and a sister preceded him in death.

Januarius P. “Jan” Dimond, age 79, 409 William Street, Huntington, died at 6:40 p.m. Friday (April 11, 2008) at Miller’s Merry Manor in Huntington.
Mr. Dimond retired after 25 years as a sheet metal worker for General Electric in Ft. Wayne. Prior to that, he worked at Majestic for 12 years. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntington and the V.F.W. Post #2689. Jan was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean War with the rank of Sergeant and was a member of the Chosin Few. He loved participating in Civil War reenactments, duck hunting, fishing, camping and motorcycles.
Jan was born on July 18, 1928 in Huntington to Harry M. and Esther M. (Hartman) Dimond. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1947 and married Jackie Shipley on August 30, 1953 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years - Jackie J. Dimond of Huntington; three sons - Paul R. (Beth) Dimond of Markle, IN, Dave W. Dimond of Huntington, and Mark E. (Deb) Dimond of Huntington; two daughters - Kathy S. Morris of Huntington and Marcea A. Dimond of Huntington; two brothers - Robert (Doris) Dimond of Carmel, IN and Donald (LaVond) Dimond of Huntington; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Brothers - John W. “Bill” Dimond and Jack Dimond Dimond, and sisters - Maralyn Kellam and Eleanor White, preceded him in death.

Jennie L. Bixler, age 50, 2795 North 700 West, Andrews, IN, died Friday (August 12, 2005) at 1:45 p.m. at her home.
Mrs. Bixler was a secretary for the Education Department at Huntington University for over 15 years. Prior to that, she worked as an abstracter for the Madison County Abstract Company in Anderson, IN. Mrs. Bixler was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Huntington, where she was active, and dearly loved, performing in dramas, singing in the choir, as well as, doing solos.
Mrs. Bixler was born on November 27, 1954 in Frankton, IN, the daughter of Harold James and Annabelle (Little) Brown. She married Daniel M. Bixler on June 10, 1973 in Alexandria, IN.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years - Daniel M. Bixler of Andrews; one son - Jeremy Bixler of Andrews; one daughter - Mrs. Patrick (Alison) Keane of Chicago, IL; two sisters - Rosalie Brown of Huntington and Mrs. Phil (Julie) Etchison of Alexandria, IN.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday (August 14, 2005) in the First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Road, Huntington, IN. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday (August 15, 2005) at the church with 1 hour of visitation before the service. Rev. Kevin Dunlop will officiate. Burial will be in the Andrews Riverside Cemetery, Andrews, IN.

Jeremiah R. Burns, age 25, 503 Grayston Avenue, Huntington, died Wednesday (November 8, 2006) at his home.
Mr. Burns was employed as a machinist with Bendix and prior to that at Bryan Machine Service both in Huntington. A resident of Huntington for most of his life, Jeremiah graduated from Huntington North High School in 1999.
Jeremiah was born on February 1, 1981 in Janesville, Wisconsin, the son of Leo Burns and Jane Schurz.
Survivors include his father - Leo Burns of Boscobel, Wisconsin; his mother - Jane Schurz of Huntington; one half brother - Mike Burns of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; half sister - Cindy Armstrong of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two stepsisters - Tori Myer of Beloit, Wisconsin and Traci Myer of Beloit, Wisconsin; grandparents - Lawrence and Claris Schurz of Rewey, Wisconsin and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday (November 12, 2006) at Bailey-Love Mortuary. Private family funeral services will be held Tuesday (November 14, 2006) at Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort, Wisconsin.

Mighty Joe "Joey" Deaton was born June 7, 1999. He took a breath, opened his wings, and left us on February 17, 2008 at 1:40 am.
Joe was strong, brave, and stubborn. He battled severe epilepsy his entire life. Joe never gave up on life, and we never gave up on him...ever.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Harley, and his brother, Tucker. He leaves behind many sad hearts and also many friends. Paul and Shari and his best friend Maggie May, all his neighbors, Doc and Mrs. Scheiber, all the staff who took such good care of him, Shane, Scott, Emma, Katie, Aunt Tricia, Paul and Mance, will miss him very much.
Run with the wind, Mighty Joe. Some day, we'll catch up with you.

John Adam Judy, age 75, Warren, died 9:45 p.m. Tuesday (May 13, 2008) at Norwood Nursing Center in Huntington.
Mr. Judy retired in 1998 after 30 years with Celotex in Lagro, IN. John was a past Commander and member of the American Legion Post #248 in Lagro. He was also a member and Trustee of the Sons of the V.F.W. Post # 2689 and the Moose both in Huntington.
John was born on February 27, 1933 in Wabash County, IN the son of Gilbert and Genevieve (Eckman) Judy. He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving with the United States Air Force. John truly loved life and his laughter was contagious. He was an avid fisherman who loved camping and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include his companion - Lois E. Hall of Warren, four sons - Scott (Diane) Judy of Wabash, Ron (Stephanie) Judy of North Manchester, Tony (Stephanie Logan) Judy of North Manchester and Lance Judy of Andrews; one sister - Mary (Bob) Vincents of Jacksonville, FL. Eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren also survive. His parents, one son, Mark Judy, and two brothers, Jerry Judy and Steven Judy, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 3 - 7 p.m. Friday (May 16, 2008) at Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday (April 17, 2008) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Bob Bothast officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery, Wabash County, IN. The V.F.W. Post # 2689 will perform the graveside rites.
