Nelson E. Lauer, age 56, 10616 North 800 East, N. Manchester, IN, died at 5:00 a.m., Thursday (March 24, 2005) at his home.
Mr. Lauer was a lifetime Chester Township, Wabash County, farmer. He also sold seed for Beck’s Seed Corn which is in Atlanta, IN. Mr. Lauer graduated from Huntington North High School, in 1967, and was a United States Marine Corp. veteran.
Mr. Lauer was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ Church, Bippus, IN. He was a volunteer for the Bippus Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Lauer was born in Wells County on February 20, 1949, the son of Paul E. and Martha J. (Lesh) Lauer. He married Judy K. Farthing on November 2, 1968 in Bippus.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years - Judy K. Lauer of North Manchester; his parents - Paul E. & Martha J. Lauer of Huntington; 1 son - Chad E. (Tina) Lauer of North Manchester; 2 daughters - Mrs. Scott (Julie) Cave of North Manchester and Mrs. Michael (Jamie) Schroll of North Manchester; 2 brothers - Alan Lauer of North Manchester and Roger Lauer of Florida; 1 sister - Mrs. Wally (Paula) Johnson of Peru, IN and 3 grandchildren.

Nina M. Cocklin, 90, 1215 Edwin Street, Huntington, died Monday (April 25, 2005) at 12:03 p.m. in Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Mrs. Cocklin retired in 1978 from Memcor where she was an inspector. Prior to that, she worked at the former Hettrick Manufacturing in Huntington. A lifetime resident of Huntington, she attended the former East State Street Church of God.
Mrs. Cocklin was born on July 11, 1914 in Huntington, the daughter of Louis and Magdelene (VanDorsten) Elston. She married Ray Voght in 1932 in Huntington and he preceded her in death on December 15, 1987. On August 26, 1956, she married Earl Cocklin, in Holland, MI. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1989.
Survivors include 3 sons - Carl Edward Voght of Huntington, Robert Eugene Voght of Huntington and Richard Wayne Voght of Huntington, 3 daughters - Mrs. Orville (Connie) Crews of Huntington, Carolyn Voght of Huntington and Mrs. Tom (Judy) Burnworth of Lagro, IN, 1 step son - Lynn Cocklin of Huntington, 2 sisters - Becky Ambler of Huntington and Mrs. Dick (Ann) Houser of Kirby, AR, 25 grandchildren , several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Jack Voght, brothers, Russell, Ervin and Ernest Elston, and a sister, Mable Elston preceded her in death.

Nona Ruth Jewell Vaughn, age 76, 1180 West 500 North, Huntington, died Saturday (April 22, 2006) at 7:44 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN.
Mrs. Vaughn ministered along with her husband, E. Ray Jewell, pastoring in Nazarene Churches in Ogden, IL, Anna, IL, Beardstown, IL, Mt. Vernon, IL and Springfield, IL and in Elkhart, IN and Fort Wayne, IN. A resident of Huntington since 1985, she was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington.
Mrs. Vaughn was born on December 12, 1929, in Cambridge City, IN, the daughter of Jasper and Hazel (Murry) Longnecker. She was a 1948 graduate of Beech Grove High School in Beech Grove, IN. Mrs. Vaughn married E. Ray Jewell on June 12, 1948 in Beech Grove, IN and he preceded her in death on May 24, 1984. Her second marriage was to Vola L. Vaughn on March 5, 1985 and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2002.
Survivors include one son - Ronald Lee (Sandy) Jewell of Ft. Wayne, IN; one daughter - Mrs. Dale (Ronda Rae) Hawkins of Huntington; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A sister - Barbara Mitchell, preceded her in death.

Norman Dale Beeks, age 77, Jasonville, IN, died Wednesday (September 26, 2007) home surrounded by family.
Mr. Beeks was employed as a driver in Jasonville and a member of the Jasonville Assembly of God. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1948. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Norman was born on May 5, 1930 in Andrews, IN, the son of Wilbur and Cleo (Aldridge) Beeks.

Norman A. Sommers, age 70, 2520 South 600 West, Huntington, died Saturday (December 10, 2005) at 11:25 am at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, IN.
Mr. Sommers retired from E&B Paving Company on November 19, 1999, with 16 years as a heavy equipment operator & road foreman. He also was employed with Mohr’s Company for 16 years. Mr. Sommers was self-employed, hauling asphalt in Peru, IN. Mr. Sommers was a member of the Huntington Moose, a part-time farmer and a very active bowler.
Mr. Sommers was born in Howard County, IN on November 3, 1935 the son of Albert and Julia A. (Garber) Sommers. Mr. Sommers married Julia Ann Norris on July 31, 1954 in Kokomo, IN. Survivors are his wife - Julia Ann Sommers of Huntington; two sons - Jeffrey L. Sommers of Huntington and Steven D. (Deb) Sommers of Huntington; one daughter - Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Overby of Columbia City, IN; three brothers - Glen Sommers of Kokomo, IN, Max Sommers of Elkhart, IN and Dana Sommers of Sturgis, MI; one sister - Mrs. Charles (Donna) Hensler of Kokomo, IN; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Opal Mae Spencer, age 76, 2010 Old US 24 East, Huntington, died on Monday (November 28, 2005) at 3:45 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
A resident of Huntington County for most of her life, Mrs. Spencer was a homemaker. She was a member of the Gospel Community Church, in Huntington, in which her husband is the founder and Bishop. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Spencer was born in Carbinville, KY, on September 7, 1929, the daughter of the late Dewey and Ena (Richardson) Cole. On November 1, 1946, in Hazard, KY, she married Elzie Spencer.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years - Rev. Elzie Spencer of Huntington; four sons - David (Ellen) Spencer of Huntington, Wayne (Virgie) Spencer of Andrews, IN, Earl (Deborah) Spencer of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Tom Spencer of Ft. Wayne, IN; three daughters - Shirley Elsten of Ft. Wayne, IN, Mrs. David (Glenda Sue) Stamper of Huntington and Marsha Kay Tackett of Huntington; three brothers - James (Janet) Cole of Huntington, Glen (Judy) Cole of Huntington and Bob (Shirley) Cole of Marion, IN; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Elick retired from Magnetek after 40 years working in production. She was a member of Moose Lodge Ladies Auxiliary Chapter #255.
Orbenia was born on July 11, 1931 in Dorton, Kentucky, the daughter of Scott and Flossie (Elswick) Tackitt. She married Andrew J. Elick on September 26, 1958 in Huntington. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2003.
Survivors include one son - Garry W. Elick of Huntington; one daughter - Carolyn Sue (Michael) Mattern of Huntington; four sisters - Opal (Jack) Millman of Andrews, IN, Ola Mae (Delano) Tackett of Andrews, IN, Gladys Tackett of Virgie, Kentucky and Eleanor Tackitt of Virgie, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A son, Larry D. Elick, and three brothers - Ruben Tackitt, Otis Tackitt and Bobby Tackitt, preceded her in death.

Oscar M. Faurote, age 5, 5679 West 200 North, died Friday (July 20, 2007), at 1:12 p.m. in the Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital, Ft. Wayne.
Oscar was a lifetime resident of Huntington. He enjoyed his cheetah catnip mouse, watching the hamsters, sitting on board games (in the center of family activities), napping with family members, and sleeping on peoples’ heads.
He was born on April 20, 2002 in Huntington.
Survivors include his adopted parents - Allyson and Mackenzie Faurote of Huntington; grandmother - Marcy Faurote of Huntington; companions - Chloe (the cat), Brownie (the dog), and Scottie & Hilary (the hamsters).
A private family graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday (July 21, 2007). Burial was in the Faurote family plot.

Patricia K. Marks, age 64, 1020 Green Street, Huntington, died Monday (August 29, 2005) at 4:58 pm at her home.
Mrs. Marks worked for 22 years at Maco Corporation and, prior to that, at Triad-Utrad for 18 years. She was a lifetime resident of Huntington.
Mrs. Marks was born the daughter of Louis J. and Quma Maxine (Myers) Voght on July 10, 1941 in Huntington County.

Paul T. “Cheny” Chenoweth, age 70, 95 North Marion Road, Huntington, died at 1:15 pm Friday (March 24, 2006) at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Mr. Chenoweth was a lifetime farmer, farming with his parent’s in Eaton, IN and then moving to Polk Township, Huntington, where he farmed from 1976 to present. He also was the owner/operator of PC Trucking. He was a member and a former board member of the Farm Bureau, Inc. and a member of the Independent Driver’s Association.
Mr. Chenoweth was born on May 31, 1935 in Muncie, IN, the son of Lowell Forrest and Dawna (Beck) Chenoweth. He married Rebecca A. Foust on August 7, 1960 in Upland, IN. Paul was a 1953 graduate of Eaton High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years - Becky Chenoweth of Huntington; two sons - Brian (Marsha) Chenoweth of Warren, IN and Stephen (Sylvia) Chenoweth of LaFontaine, IN; two daughters - Denise Thieme of Ft. Wayne, IN and Mrs. Myron (Tracy) Grimes of Huntington; one brother - David Chenoweth of Hartford City, IN and twelve grandchildren.

Pauline M. Baker, age 92, 1180 West 500 North, Huntington, died Wednesday (March 21, 2007) at 3:20 p.m. at the Heritage of Huntington.
Mrs. Baker farmed along with her husband on their Union Township farm from 1935-1973. In 1965 they moved to Polk Township, and then in 1976 she moved to Buchanan Street where she lived until her present address. She was a member of Wabash Primitive Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Huntington Garden Club and the Comfort Club of Union Township. Pauline volunteered for the Cancer Services for Huntington County and the Huntington Hospital Guild for many years. A lifetime resident of Huntington County, she graduated from Huntington High School in 1933.
Pauline was born on January 25, 1915 in Clear Creek Township, Huntington County, the daughter of George and Margaret (Petrie) Sunderman. She married Dale L. Baker on October 12, 1935 in Indianapolis, IN. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1973.
Survivors include two sons - Kenneth D. (Carole) Baker of Andrews and John L. (Joy) Baker of Huntington; two daughters - Janet (Richard) Albertson of Huntington and Sara (David) Braun of Huntington; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Five brothers - Carl Sunderman, Martin Sunderman, Rufus Sunderman, Fred Sunderman and Edward Sunderman, as well as four sisters - Anna Tobias, Emma Guhl, Esther Murray and Edith Ehlers, preceded her in death.

Paul H. Schultz, age 81, 405 Swan Street, Huntington, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday (May 22, 2008) at Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Mr. Schultz retired in 1990 as the Plant Manager, after 25 years of service at United Technologies, in Andrews. Paul was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2689, American Legion Post #7, and the Moose. He was a lifetime resident of Huntington, and a 1948 graduate of Huntington High School.
Paul was born on January 19, 1927, in Huntington, the son of Herman and Martha (Schultz) Schultz. Paul married Charlotte L. Young on October 22, 1948, in Huntington. She preceded him in death on May 13, 1980.
Survivors include three sons - Curt Schultz, Anthony T. (Dianna) Schultz, and Clifford W. (Brenda) Schultz, all of Huntington; two daughters - Candace L. Richardson and Mrs. Joseph (Theresa) Bucher, both of Huntington; two sisters - Marge Selle and Betty Hasty, both of Huntington; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. His parents, wife, and two sisters, preceded him in death.

Pearl Z. Sands, age 83, of 3720 North Norwood Road, Huntington, died at 11:22 p.m. Wednesday (July 4, 2007) at the Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Pearl was a homemaker and lived in Huntington most of her life. She was born on March 17, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Pearle Hovick Loughrige and Antonnette Josephine Walpoviake. Pearl married Donald M. Sands on February 14, 1947 in Huntington. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1999.
Survivors include her daughter - Janet Lee Jones of Dublin, Georgia, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. Three sister-in-laws - Rosemary Zeller, Betty Broxon and Dondas Carpenter and three brother-in-laws - Gary Sands, Larry Sands, all of Huntington, and Bob Sands of Andrews, survive also.

Peggy L. Benson, age 69, 608 E. Franklin St., Huntington, died Friday (August 4, 2006) at 6:49 a.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Mrs. Benson retired from Eagle-Picher Plastic in Huntington and operated Peg’s Beauty Shop, out of her home, for over 45 years. She was a member of the Northview Church of Christ and the Grandmother’s Club both in Huntington.
Mrs. Benson was born on October 29, 1936, in Huntington, to John George and Mary (Brown) Melling. She married Richard L. Benson on May 21, 1953 in Huntington. He preceded her in death in May of 1957. She was a 1958 graduate of Warner College Beauty Culture in Ft. Wayne and, in 1987; she received a master of cosmetology from the State of Indiana.
Survivors include one son - L. Wayne (Pamela) Benson of Huntington; one daughter - Mrs. Jerry (Pamela) Gaskill of Huntington; one brother - John L. Melling of Rockford, IL; one son-in-law - Jerry W. Hysong of Huntington; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A daughter - Linda Hysong, and a son - Leslie Alan Benson, preceded her in death.

Philip Cole Ross, Sr., age 86, Huntington, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday (February 11, 2007) at home.
Mr. Ross earned his Licensed Professional Engineer license in 1950. He moved to Huntington in 1960 and obtained his Indiana Professional Engineers license in 1961. He was employed as Professional Engineer with Sperry Gyroscope, Inc., Garden City Research Lab, Long Island, New York; General Electric, Utica, New York; Model Engineering and Manufacturing in Huntington; Bowmar Company in Fort Wayne; Wabash Magnetics in Huntington; Utrad Division of Litton in Huntington and Majestic of Huntington.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntington and on the board for the Huntington County Council on Aging/Senior Center. He was a past president of Huntington County Chapter Izaak Walton League, AARP #2175, Alert, Inc., Huntington County Humane Society, and United Way. He was a member of Acres, Inc., CARE Inc., Huntington Kiwanis Club, National Audubon Society, Salamonie Birding Club, Stockbridge Audubon Society, Hoosier Environmental Council, Sierra Club, Greenpeace, National Wildlife Federation, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, National Resources Defense Council, Ducks Unlimited, Nature Conservancy, Fox Island, Defenders of Wildlife, and Little River Wetlands Project, Inc. He had been actively involved with the Samaritan Center, and as a Deacon, Trustee, and Treasurer with the First Presbyterian Church in Huntington.
He was a member of the National Ski Patrol while in New York State, and was highly involved as the Boy Scouts Scoutmaster for Troop 121 from 1968 to1973 with continuing involvement in Boy Scouts as an institutional representative and council committee member through the Anthony Wayne Area Boy Scout Council for over ten years.
Mr. Ross was born on October 10, 1920 in West Hartford, Connecticut to Lee and Evelyn (Waterbury) Ross. He was married to Jean Heissenbuttel of Garden City, New York on October 30, 1948, who survives. He was a graduate of West Hartford (Conn.) High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Syracuse University.
Other survivors include two daughters, Martha Hoyt (Robert) Goings of Huntington and Ginger Ross (Peter, M.D.) Breggin of King Ferry, New York, a son, Philip Cole (Moira Buckstein) Ross, Jr. of Waterford, Connecticut; one brother, Donald W. (Roselee Kelley, M.D.) Ross of Dunedin, Florida; three granddaughters, Shannon and Asha Goings of Huntington, and Alysha Carpenter of Florida; and two grandsons, Solomon and Nathaniel Ross of Waterford, Connecticut. Preceding him in death was his sister, Alice Elizabeth Postle.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday (February 14, 2007) at Trinity United Methodist Church at the corner of Guilford and Market Streets, Huntington. A memorial service will follow immediately at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. David Ballinger officiating.

Philip J. Shafer, age 88, 7072 West 200 South, Huntington, died at 5:28 a.m. Monday (January 8, 2007) at his home.
Mr. Shafer was a lifetime Polk Township farmer and highly regarded as one of the State’s premiere Angus cattle breeders. He was a life long member of Pilchers Chapel Methodist Church where he served as superintendent of Sunday school and board of trustees. Philip was Director of the Indiana Angus Association, and in 1969, served as President of the Association.
Philip served his community as a member of the County Planning Commission for 2 years. He was highly committed to the quality of education in Huntington County and was President of the Holding Corporation for Huntington County Consolidated Schools, responsible for financing the consolidation of all Huntington County schools. A lifetime resident of Huntington County, Phil graduated from Warren High School in 1936.
Mr. Shafer was born September 4, 1918 in Warren, IN, the son of Harry and Dalta (Garrison) Shafer. He married Evelyn Shell on September 3, 1939 in Huntington County.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years - Evelyn Shafer of Huntington; three daughters - Mrs. Gary (Bonnie) Groves of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, Connie Long of Huntington and Mrs. Robert (Sonnie) Laviolette, M.D. of Zionsville, IN; one son - Philip K. (Jenny) Shafer of Huntington; one brother - Hugh A. (Lou Ann) Shafer of Warren, IN; two sisters - Ilene Marshall of N. Manchester, IN and Mrs. Robert (Martha Joan) Richardson of Warren, IN; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brothers - Dwight Shafer and Eugene Shafer, and a sister - Lelia Kirtley preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday (January 12, 2007) at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington IN, 46750. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday (January 13, 2007) at Pilchers Chapel Methodist Church, 200 South 600 West, Huntington, IN with one hour of visitation prior to the services at the church. Pastor Russell Buzzard will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Etna Cemetery in Mount Etna, IN.
