Phyllis J. Brumbaugh, age 78, 2045 Manito Trail, Huntington, died at 6:00 a.m. Monday (October 1, 2007) at her home.
Mrs. Brumbaugh retired in 1991 after 30 years of service for Memcor working as a quality control inspector. Phyllis was a member of the Huntington First Church of the Nazarene. She belonged to the Rebecca Lodge of Andrews and volunteered at Miller’s Merry Manor in the Activities Department. Phyllis could be found at the Senior Center on Monday’s and worked for many charity organizations.
Phyllis was born on July 16, 1929 in Huntington, the daughter of Dee and Ada (Boyer) Murphy. She was a 1947 graduate of Huntington High School. Phyllis married George F. Brumbaugh on May 4, 1947, in Huntington and he preceded her in death in October of 1979.
Survivors include one son - Dennis (Linda) Brumbaugh of Huntington; two daughters - Judy Lockwood of Huntington and Myra (Scott) Knipstein of Roanoke, IN; three brothers - Tom Murphy of Wichita, Kansas, Jack Murphy of Anniston, Alabama and John Murphy of Thomasville, Georgia; one sister - Joy Rice of Ossian, IN; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons - Brian Brumbaugh and James Brumbaugh and one sister - Bonnie Day.
Visitation will be 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday (October 4, 2007) at Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday with visitation 1 hour prior to service (October 5, 2007) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Gene Vickery officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.

Ralph C. Hunnicutt, Jr., age 75, Andrews, IN died at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday (April 1, 2008) at the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Mr. Hunnicutt was a lifetime Dallas Township farmer and retired from Dana Corporation where he worked for over 30 years. After retirement, he worked part time for Owens North Store. Ralph was the organist for the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Church for over 40 years and sang with the College Park Church Choir. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Church in Andrews.
Ralph was born on May 17, 1932 in Huntington, the son of Ralph C. and Mary (Burns) Hunnicutt. He was a 1950 graduate of Andrews High School and served as a Corporal of the United States Army. Ralph married Linda L. Fox in Andrews on March 22, 1969.
Survivors include his wife - Linda L. Hunnicutt of Andrews, IN; three sons - David S. (Susan) Hunnicutt of Indianapolis, IN, Gary C. (Angela) Hunnicutt of Andrews, IN, and Steven J. (Lori) Hunnicutt of Columbus, IN; and seven grandchildren. His parents and sisters, Joan Oppy and Barbara Converse, preceded him in death.

Ralph E. Vardaman, age 89, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Huntington, IN, died at 10:40 am on Wednesday (November 23, 2005) at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Mr. Vardaman was born November 18, 1916, in Huntington, IN, the son of the late George and Anna (Krieger) Vardaman. He married Zelda Rena Sonner in Ft. Wayne, IN, in 1945 and she survives.
Survivors include two daughters, four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Brothers, Kenny and Harry Vardaman, and sisters, Bernice McBride & Helen Stouder, preceded him in death.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery in Roanoke, IN.

Orville “Gene” Hoover, age 78, 739 Hitzfield Street, Huntington, died at 1:12 a.m. Friday (January 4, 2008) at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hoover retired in 1993 from Zollner’s Piston in Fort Wayne after 28 years of service. He was a lifetime resident of Huntington.
Gene was born on June 27, 1929 in Huntington the son of Orville Glen and Florence (Williams) Hoover. He married Dorothy Schaffer on March 4, 1950 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years - Dorothy Hoover of Huntington; two sons - David G. (Brenda) Hoover of Huntington and William A. (Joyce) Hoover of Yoder, IN; one daughter - Susan (Thomas) Mullis of Huntington; two brothers - Jack Hoover of Huntington and Carl Hoover of Alabama; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A son - James Spath, a brother - Jerry Hoover, and a sister - June Howard, preceded him in death.

Ray E. “Gene” Denman, Jr., 58, 227 West 3rd Street, Warren, died at 6:00 p.m., Sunday (March 20, 2005) at his home.
Mr. Denman was a truck driver and had worked, as a millwright, for Gen Corp, in Wabash, for 11 years. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge # 823, in Huntington, where he served as a trustee, on the flag team and the honor guard. He also was a member of the American Legion Post #85 of Huntington. Mr. Denman was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Mr. Denman was born in Huntington on July 21, 1946, the son of Ray E. and Melva (Reed) Denman, Sr. He married Linda Farthing on September 24, 1978 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years - Linda Denman of Warren, his mother - Melva Denman of Huntington; 1 son - William “Bill” Denman of Huntington; 2 daughters - Mrs. Carey (Sarah) Bolding and Christina McNally both of Huntington; 2 step sons - Todd Nightenhelser and Royce Nightenhelser both of Huntington; 2 brothers - John Denman and Rick Denman both of Huntington; 1 sister - Mrs. Robert (Londa) Burnworth of Huntington and 12 grandchildren.

Ray B. Gressley, 87, 843 East Tipton Street, Huntington, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday (April 14, 2005) at Norwood Nursing Center, Huntington.
Mr. Gressley worked for Orton Crane in Huntington for over 16 years. Prior to that, he managed the Citgo station at the corner of First and Division Streets in Huntington. Mr. Gressley was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #2689, in Huntington, and an avid fisherman. He served in the United States Army, during W.W. II, as a field lineman stationed in Germany.
Mr. Gressley was born on June 17, 1917, in Wabash County, a son of Grover and Addie Emley Gressley. On May 12, 1956, he married Evelyn Jones Wilson and she preceded him in death on August 3, 2002.
Survivors include; 1 son - Ronald Gressley of Roanoke, IN, 1 daughter - Alice Carr of Mount Ida, Arkansas, 1 stepson - Carl Wilson of New Port Richey, FL, 1 stepdaughter - Mrs. Robert (Gloria) Adkins of Huntington, 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Janice Brubaker, two stepsons, Clyde and Richard Wilson, a brother, Carl Gressley, a sister, Mary Behrens, and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
There will be no visitation or funeral services. Private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington, with the V.F.W. Post #2689 performing military graveside service.

Retha E. Waters, age 84, 521 William Street, Huntington, died on Wednesday (November 23, 2005) at 3:54 a.m. at her home residence.
Mrs. Waters retired from Renz Dry Cleaners but previously worked for Model Dry Cleaners for over 24 years, both in Huntington. She was a seamstress at various sewing factories in Huntington, Ft. Wayne and Van Buren. A resident of Huntington County for most of her life, Mrs. Waters was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Mrs. Waters was born in Roanoke, IN, on October 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Charles Benjamin and Rhoda Arvilla (Laughman) Spencer. She attended Lagrange High School. On July 25, 1940, in Huntington, IN, she married Edward A. Waters and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2003.
Survivors include two daughters - Retha E. Waters Kipp of Huntington, IN and Wanda B. Waters Bragg of Huntington, IN; one son - Edward B. Waters of Huntington, IN; two sisters - Mrs. Bill (Ruth Ellen) Young of Tulsa, OK and Iva Galindo of Brentwood, CA; one brother - Charles Spencer of Tulsa, OK; fourteen grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A sister - Leota Goguel, and three brothers - Glen Spencer, Bernard Spencer and William Spencer, preceded her in death.

Rex W. Buzzard, age 76, 5182 West 100 North, Huntington, died Monday (March 6, 2006) at his residence.
Mr. Buzzard was a lifetime farmer and resident of Huntington County. He also worked for Friction Materials Inc., Huntington, from 1965 till he retired in 1995 as an electrician and past president of the Local 340 UAW. He was a 1947 graduate of Lincolnville High, Wabash Co., IN.
Mr. Buzzard was born on June 25, 1929 in Huntington, IN, the son of Elbridge and Laura (Kocher) Buzzard. He married Freda Bockmon on March 3, 1950 in Wabash, IN.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years - Freda Buzzard of Huntington; a son - Randy K. Buzzard of Huntington; a daughter - Pamela K. Morton of Huntington; three brothers - Dean Buzzard of Grand Blanc, MI, Roger Buzzard of Huntington, and Murl Buzzard of Huntington; two grandchildren - Brad Buzzard and Wade Buzzard; five nephews and three nieces. Mr. Buzzard was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Buzzard.

Rex E. Szelis, age 75, 10522 South County Line Road, Zanesville, IN, died Saturday (September 24, 2005) at 8:51 am at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Szelis retired from International Harvestor in Ft. Wayne where he worked for over 22 years. Prior to that, he worked for Orton Crane in Huntington. Mr. Szelis was a 1947 graduate of Huntington Township High School.
Mr. Szelis was born October 1, 1929, in Huntington, IN, the son of the late Benjamin R. and Verna (Wike) Szelis. He married Rose M. Shaffer on August 31, 1963 in Huntington, IN. Mr. Szelis was a veteran of the Korean War having served with the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years - Rose M. Szelis of Zanesville, IN; three sons - Tim W. (Denise) Szelis of Huntington, IN, Tony C. Szelis of Zanesville, IN and Edward C. (Kay) Szelis of Huntington, IN; a sister - Mary Whicker of Indianapolis, IN and three grandchildren - Preston Szelis, Stephen Szelis and Jessica Szelis. A brother, Kenneth Szelis and two sisters, Catherine Campbell and Dorothy Szelis, preceded him in death.

Richard E. Fox, age 74, 8 Queens Court, Roanoke, IN died at 8:43 p.m. Wednesday (June 18, 2008) at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Richard retired as a salesperson. He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Wabash County, the Indiana American Legion, the Scatter 8’s and Twin Bridge Square Dance Clubs and several others in the area.
Richard was born January 30, 1934 in Chester Township, Wabash County, the son of Robert E. and Aletha O. (Christman) Fox. He graduated from Bippus High School in 1952 and was a veteran of the United States Army. He married Donna J. Lassiter on September 5, 1958 in Andrews, IN.
Survivors include his wife - Donna J. Fox of Roanoke; two sons - Richard E. (Dianne) Fox, Jr. of Urbana, IN and Daniel J. (Linda) Fox of North Manchester, IN; one brother - Keith E. Fox of Columbia City, IN; two sisters - Joan Drayer of Huntington and Linda Hunnicutt of Andrews; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Richard P. “Dick” Stonebraker, age 85, 253 West McCrum St., Huntington, IN, died Thursday (September 7, 2006) at 4:40 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Mr. Stonebraker worked as a machinist at Orton Crane in Huntington for 26 years and at Fort Wayne’s International Harvester for 17 years when he retired in 1983. Dick worked at the Clear Creek Golf Course during his retirement. He was a 1939 graduate of Huntington High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-17 and B-29 gunner achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #7, both of Huntington, and the UAW Local #51 of Ft. Wayne.
Dick was a life member of the Fort Wayne Bowling Association and served a term as its President. He was among the first bowlers in the Huntington Church Bowling League where he was the league secretary for 17 years. Dick was also an umpire for the World War II era Daisy Women’s Baseball League.
Mr. Stonebraker was born June 25, 1921 in the Huntington County Hospital to Dale and Mary (Stetzel) Stonebraker. He married Neva Jane Knight on April 19, 1952 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years - Neva Stonebraker of Huntington, IN; one son - Lon M. (Cheryl) Stonebraker of Manassas, Virginia; three daughters - Cynthia A. (Jim) Grimes of Phoenix, Arizona, Alyce L. (Doug) Watkins of Andrews, IN and Mary Deneen (Ron) Fusselman of Huntington; six brothers - Keith (Annie) Stonebraker of Ossian, IN, Robert (Kate) Stonebraker of Huntington, Dean (Anne) Stonebraker of Huntington, Arthur (Carol) Stonebraker of Kokomo, IN, Neil (Sandy) Stonebraker of Huntington and James (Carol) Stonebraker of Roanoke, IN; two sisters - Lois Offutt of Cleveland, Ohio and Norma (Rex) Jones of Huntington; fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Richard D. Ziegler, age 85, 633 Mayne Street, Huntington, died at 11:25 p.m. Monday (October 30, 2006) at Beverly Specialty Care in Ft. Wayne.
Mr. Ziegler retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural Letter Carrier. He also worked as a Public Service lineman. Richard was a member of the Amity Masonic Lodge #483 F&AM, American Legion #85 and the V.F.W. Post #2689 all in Huntington. A lifetime resident of Huntington, Mr. Ziegler graduated from Huntington High School in 1939. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WW II.
Mr. Ziegler was born on February 23, 1921 in Huntington, the son of Vernon C. and Edith Ruth (Claus) Ziegler. On August 21, 1943, in Huntington, he and Kathryn V. Finney were married. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2002.
Survivors include one son - Jeffrey Scott (Joy) Ziegler of South Riding, Virginia; two daughters - Karen Soper of Indianapolis, IN and Kathy (Scott) Knecht of Huntington; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A sister, Evelyn Joan Bajzik, preceded him in death.

Rickie L. Proffitt, age 49, of Roanoke, died Saturday (December 16, 2006) at 1:10 p.m. at the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Ft. Wayne.
A resident of Roanoke for 15 years, she was employed as a machine adjuster at Our Sunday Visitor for 10 years, and member of Gethsemane Ministries in Huntington.
Rickie was born on February 22, 1957 in Pineville, KY., the daughter of Pearl and Cora (Miracle) Taylor.
Surviving are two daughters - Angela ( Heath ) Stettler of Huntington and Christa ( Gregory ) Goff of Roanoke, 1 Granddaughter, Taylor Stettler. 1 Sister- Tiwani Grimm and 2 Brothers - McKinley Taylor and Charles Taylor, all of Middlesboro, KY.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Phyllis Taylor.

Robert Adkins, age 72, 920 East Tipton Street, Huntington, died Tuesday (November 7, 2006) at 7:00 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Mr. Adkins retired after 30 years with International Harvester in Ft. Wayne. He also managed Doc’s Hardware Store in Albion, IN for 10 years. Robert was a resident of Huntington for the past three years and had lived in Albion, IN prior to that for 25 years. He graduated from Haviland High School in Haviland, Ohio. Robert served in the Korean War with the United States Army.
Mr. Adkins was born February 25, 1934 in Oak Hill, Ohio, to James and Mary Hazel (Kuhn) Adkins. He married Gloria J. Wilson on September 10, 1976 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years - Gloria J. Adkins of Huntington; one son - Robert Adkins, Jr. of Ft. Wayne, IN; two daughters - Kristina (Harrison) Combs of Ft. Wayne, IN and Carol Ann (Larry) McGee of Granite City, Illinois; 2 stepsons - Terry Beekman of Traverse City, Michigan and Steve Beekman of Columbia City, IN; five stepdaughters - Gail (Mike) Baum of Roanoke, IN, Rhonda (Greg) Kenline of Albion, IN, Kay (Terry) Pfister of Huntington, Pam (John) Green of South Bend, IN and Missie (Brad) Tempest of Columbus, IN; two sisters - Delores Smith of Muncy, Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Yearwood of Ft. Wayne, IN; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Three half brothers - James Adkins of Sycamore, Ohio, David Adkins of Bucyrus, Ohio and Bob Adkins of Oak Hill, Ohio; and two half sisters - Susan (Don) Nichols of Jackson, Ohio and Cathy Brown of Oak Hill, Ohio, also survive. Sons - Rick Adkins and Tony Adkins, and daughters - Brenda Martin and Susie Adkins preceded him in death.

Mr. Barker was retired from the Erie Railroad where he worked from 1966-1981. Prior to that, he worked as an engineer/fireman with Conrail Railroad. Bob was a member of the Huntington Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post 253 of North Webster, IN.
Bob was born on May 31, 1948 in Huntington, to Thomas K. and Pauline (Stultz) Barker. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1966 and was a lifetime resident of Huntington.
Survivors include one son - Chad (Amy) Barker of Decatur, IN; two daughters - Stacie Barker of Fresno, California and Shannon Barker of Fresno, California; one brother - Thomas K. Barker, Jr. of North Webster, IN; one Uncle - Gene Stultz of Marion, IN; and 12 grandchildren. His father (1992) and his mother (2003) preceded him in death.

Robert was born to Leroy and Avis (Lucas) Cummins, on April 11, 1931 in Connersville, IN.
Mr. Cummins was a 1949 graduate of the Bentonville High School in Bentonville, IN. Robert then attended Bible College for three years. Mr. Cummins married Emma L. (Mann) on September 16, 1978 in Markle. Robert was a self-employed/owner of “Cummins Home Service” in Huntington for over forty years.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-nine years - Emma L. Cummins of Huntington; five daughters - Mrs. Doug (Avis) Hiller of Urbana, OH, Mrs. Mark (Cindy) McKay of Nolensville, TN, Sue Asher of Eton, IN, Mrs. David (Becky) Kersy of Huntington, IN, and Mrs. Jesse (Tami) Glenn of Hamilton, IN; three step-sons - Morris (Debera) Pierson of Huntington, Carl (Sherry) Pierson of Huntington, and Jimmie (Donna) Pierson of Huntington; one brother - James Cummins of Connersville, IN; twenty-nine grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.

Robert D. Endsley, age 85, Huntington, died at 12:23 p.m. Wednesday (September 12, 2007) at his home.
Mr. Endsley was the former owner of Jones/Huntington Abstract and Title Company, Inc. for over 56 years. It is the state’s oldest operating title company with continuing service. He purchased Jones Abstract in 1944 from I. B. Heaston. Bob was the owner of Endsley’s Tailoring and Dry Cleaning, the former Polar Bear Restaurant (which was located on First Street) and the Party Shop (formerly known as the Coffee Ranch). He was a Deputy Sheriff for 50 years and an inspector with the Indiana Department of Weights and Measures retiring after 50 years of service. Bob helped with the formation of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Community State Bank, Markle Bank and with securing the funds to build the Huntington College Union Building.
Mr. Endsley received the prestigious award of “Sagamore of the Wabash” presented by Governor Frank O’Bannon on August 30, 1999. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntington and attended Coral Ridge Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Bob was a 32nd Degree member of Amity Masonic Lodge # 483 F & AM and a Past President and 50-year member of the Rotary Club both in Huntington. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne and Mizpah Temple in Ft. Wayne. Bob served as President of the Indiana Land Title Association in 1965, was a member of the Pompano Beach Elks Club, Caribe Men’s Club, Meshingomesia Country Club and was an avid golfer.
Bob graduated in 1941 from Pioneer High School in Royal Center, IN, attended Huntington College and graduated from Kahn Tailoring School. A lifetime resident of Huntington, Mr. Endsley spent his summers at Lake Wawasee and winters at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea in Florida.
Mr. Endsley was born on September 25, 1921 in Marion, IN, the son of Wade E. and Violet C. (Bailey) Endsley. He married Venice L. Wiedenhoeft on October 18, 1944 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years - Venice L. Endsley of Huntington, one sister - Betty J. (Lewis A.) Johnston of Huntington and a nephew - Michael (Diana) Nichols of Indianapolis, IN.
Visitation will be 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday (September 16, 2007) at the Bailey-Love Mortuary with one hour of calling prior to funeral services. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday (September 17, 2007) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. David Ballinger officiating. Entombment will be at the Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Huntington County.

Robert Michael “Mike” Fore, 57, Huntington, died at 4:00 p.m. Monday (March 31, 2008) at his home.
Mr. Fore was employed with Whitley Manufacturing in South Whitley, IN working 10 years as a service tech. Prior to that, he worked for Schultz Homes in Buckeye, Arizona. Mike attended Church of Deliverance in Huntington and the American Legion Post #777 of Indianapolis, IN.
Mike was born December 1, 1950 in Evansville, IN the son of Earl Eugene and Barbara Jean (Wiers) Fore. He graduated from Ben Davis High School (Indianapolis) in 1968 and was a veteran of the United States Army. He married Brenda Storie on June 16, 1998 in Huntington.
Survivors include his mother - Barbara Jean Fore of Tucson, Arizona; his wife - Brenda J. Fore of Huntington; a daughter - Jamie Lynn O’Daniel of Booneville, IN; a brother - Derek Fore of Tucson, Arizona; and two sisters - Carol (Jeffery) Jodrey of Roanoke, Virginia and Barbara (Ronald) Betti of Atlanta, Georgia. His father preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday (April 2, 2008) at Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday (April 3, 2008) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Raymond Stamper officiating. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory, Huntington County with the V.F.W. Post #2689 performing military graveside rites.
