Catherine A. Gibbs, 50 of Winamac, Indiana, died at 11:08 PM on Monday, August 27, 2007 at
Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, Indiana.
Catherine was born to Clyde L. Carnett and Annamae Gray on March 10, 1957 in Hammond,
Indiana. She was married on August 13, 1994 at to Patrick Gibbs.
She is survived by her Husband - Patrick Gibbs of Winamac, Indiana, Sons - Marshall Martel,
Clifton Martel, and Kelly (Georgette) Gibbs, Daughter - Gwendolyn (Scott) Martel, Mother -
Annamae Carnett, Brothers - Clyde W. (Patti) Carnett, Jospeh W. (Geri) Carnett, Richard L.
(Patty) Carnett, and Donald R. (Sherrill) Dooley, Sisters - Marty (Joseph) Acosta, Linda S.
Hotuyec, and Carla J. Clark, 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Father, Clyde L.
Carnett.
Visitation will be from 10:00 - 1:30PM Central Standard Time at the Bonine-Odom Funeral
Home on Sat., September 1, 2007. Rev. Michael Boyd will officiate the service which will take
place at 1:30 PM on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver,
Indiana. Interment will be private.

Deborah L. Grimes, 40 of Twelve Mile, Indiana, died at 5:33 PM on
May 19, 2008 at Logansport Memorial Hospital in Logansport, Indiana.
Debbie was born to Robert Grimes and Loretta Grimes on October 10,
1967 in LaPorte, Indiana.
Debbie is survived by her Mother - Loretta Grimes of Culver, Indiana,
Husband - Ernie Gates of Twelve Mile, Indiana, Sisters - Christine
Foster of Rochester, Indiana, Bobbie Jo (Mike) Grover of Culver,
Indiana, Donna (Tom) Woodward of Culver, Indiana, and Rachael (Ed)
Tibbs of Bristol, Connecticut, Brother - Rudy (Mary) Grimes of
Lapaz, Indiana, Stepdaughter - Melissa (Jeremy) Pickett of Ft.
Riley, Kansas, Stepson - Aaron Gates of Twelve Mile, Indiana, 3
grandchildren and numerous Nieces & Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father - Robert Grimes in 1987.

Loretta M. Grimes
December 5, 1930 - June 3, 2008
Loretta M. Grimes, 77, of Culver passed away at home on
June 3, 2008.
Loretta was born on Dec 5, 1930, one of 6 children born to
Burl and Mary (Walsh) Schofield in Frankfort, IL. She was
married in Metropolis, IL to Robert W. Grimes in May of
1976.
They later moved to Marshall County and eventually Culver,
where she lived for the past 21 years. She retired from
Ristance Corp in Argos after working there for many years.
Loretta was a faithful member of St. Mary's of the Lake
Catholic Church in Culver and a member of the
Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 Ladies Auxiliary of Culver.
She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading
Harlequin Romance novels.
She is survived by her loving daughters: Rachael (Ed) Tibbs
of Bristol, CT, Donna (Tom) Woodward of Culver, Christine
(Michael) Foster of Rochester, and Bobbie Jo (Mike) Grover
of Culver; son: Rudy (Mary) Konderla of Lapaz, IN, and
numerous grand, great grand, and great-great grandchildren.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4
brothers, 1 sister, and her daughter Deborah Grimes.
A time of sharing memories with the family will be held on
Sat. June 7, 2008 from 5:00 - 7:00PM EDT at the
Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver. Father Glenn Kohrman
will officiate funeral services at 7:00PM. Interment will be
private.

Carl H. Heiser
August 8, 1922 - January 19, 2008
Carl H. Heiser, 85, of Haines City, FL, formerly of
Culver, IN, passes away on January 19, 2008 at his
home in Florida.
Carl was born on August 8, 1922 to William J. and
Laura (Overmyer) Heiser in Culver. He was married
to Hazel Harley. She survives.
Carl was a former millwright worker. He worked at
Bendix Corp. in South Bend for many years.
In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by his children:
Janet (Roger) Kruk of Granger, IN, Joan (Lance)
Whitely of Laytonville, CA, William (Pam) Heiser of
Hillsboro, OR, Robert Heiser of Chesterfield, MO, and
Bruce (Leslie) Heiser of St. Charles, MO; 9
grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter
Carol, and brother - Dale Heiser.
Visitation with the family will be held at Bonine-Odom
Funeral Home, Culver, on Thursday January 24, 2008
from 4:00 - 8:00PM EST. Rev. John Railton will
officiate services on Friday, January 25, 2008 at
10:00AM EST at the funeral home. Interment will

Wayne D. Hissong
Wayne D. Hissong, 87, of Leiters Ford, died in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth on
Monday morning, April 28, 2008.
Wayne was born in Argos, IN to Lawrence and Carrie Hissong. His parents preceded him in death as did
his brother, Loren Hissong.
On Oct. 21, 1956, he married Barbara Reinholt, who also preceded him in death. They were married 39
years and together had three children who survive, Valerie (Kevin) Staples of South Bend, Vince (Becky)
Hissong of Leiters Ford and Van (Theresa) Hissong of Culver. His son from a previous marriage, Paul
(Vicky) Sudlow lives in Billings, MO. Wayne has 8 grandchildren: Isaac Hissong, Alexandra and Patrick
Staples, and Madeline, Morgan, Sam, Gabriel, and Savannah Hissong.
Wayne graduated from Argos High School and worked in construction until his retirement. He was a proud
WWII veteran having served for 4 1/2 years in the 2nd Armored Division and the 712th Tank Battalion. He
was awarded the Purple Heart, a silver battle star, and several other ribbons and medals. Wayne
maintained close friendships with his comrades in the years since the war. He traveled each fall to the
712th Tank Battalion reunions to renew friendships and recount stories.
For Wayne, there was no baseball team but the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed golf, fishing and time with
family and friends. He was a member of the Collins-Tasch American Legion Post 399 in Monterey, the
Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 of Culver, and the Maxinkuckee Independent Order of Odd Fellows of
Culver. Wayne was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by his family and many
friends.
Viewing will be held at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home in Culver on Thursday, May 1 from 4:00 - 8:00PM
EST. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday May 2 at 11:00AM EST. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be given to the Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 of Culver or to the Collins-Tasch

Brandon Damien Keller, 18, of 6779 N St. Rd 25, Rochester, went to be with God on June 2, 2008.
Brandon was born May 5, 1990, at South Bend, IN to Tonya Keller and David Breyfogle.

Brandon was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents - Clement and Marjorie Keller, Sr.,

Mildred Dooley.
Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008 from 2:00 - 8:00PM at the Bonine-Odom
Funeral Home, Culver with a Spiritual Wake service led by Father Bert Woolson at 7:30PM. A mass of
Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11:00AM at the St. Anne's Catholic Church in
Monterey. Brandon will be laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Monterey.

Janet Kelly, 83 of 15865 Yarlett Street, Culver, Indiana, died at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May
29, 2007 at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver, Indiana.
Janet was born to Milton Napier and Beatrice Stewart on February 19, 1924 in Kentucky.
She was married on December 24, 1949 at Keokee, Virginia to Paul H. Kelly. He
preceded her in death on December 25, 2006.
Janet Kelly is survived by her son - Paul A. (Shirley) Kelly of Knox, Indiana, daughters -
Phyllis (Joseph) Mazur of LaQuinta, California, and Michelle (James) See of Plymouth,
Indiana, brothers, Bill Napier of Detroit, Michigan, Burl Napier of West Virginia, and J.C.
Napier of Pierceton, Indiana, sisters - Joan Bush living in Virginia, Ann Bush of Closplint,
Kentucky, Sharon Napier of Keokee, Virginia, and Jean Collins of Martinsville, Indiana, 10
grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Husband, Paul

Edgar "Poe", and Evan Napier, and sister, Luville Napier.

Harold Ray Kenney
January 1, 1926 - July 17, 2008
Harold Ray Kenney, 82, died Thursday morning, July 17, 2008, at the Golden Living Center, Knox,
Indiana, following an extended illness. He was born in 1926 in Nicholas County, Kentucky, to Bruce
and Myrtle Estelle (Jones) Kenney. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dick
(Jean) Kenney, Robert (Gladys) Kenney, and Jay (Elsie) Kenney; sisters Estelle B. (Strawder)
Feeback, Ruby Morris, Lois (Bill) Ritchie, Sue (Bill) Matsey, Marguerite (J. W.) Ecton, and twin sister
Fay (Howard) Bramel.
His wife, Marizetta (Robinson) Kenney survives; also daughter Alethea Kenney and her husband
David Bainbridge of Shevlin, Minnesota; son Jeffrey and Elizabeth (McCormick) Kenney and four
grandchildren Cecilia, Peter, Esme and Felicity Kenney of Culver.
Ray was a deacon of the Culver Bible Church, and later a member of the Community Bible Fellowship.
He enjoyed gospel and country-western music. Ray retired from Astro-Valcour in 1992, was an avid
gardener and enjoyed working on cars. He loved baseball and basketball. He enjoyed being with his
grandchildren, although he could no longer take long walks through Culver, as he had with his children.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 20, at Bonine-Odom Funeral Home from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. There will be
a private burial service at the Culver Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to the Culver-Union Twp. EMS Volunteers or the Starke Memorial Home Health and Hospice Care.
Rebecca R. Large

Rebecca R. Large, 48 of 16427 W 18th Road, Culver, Indiana, died at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at her
home.
Rebecca was born to Floyd Thomas and Marjory Johnson on May 31, 1959 in Rochester, Indiana. She was married on
July 15, 1995 at Winamac, Indiana to John Large Jr..
She is survived by her Husband - John Large Jr. of Culver, Indiana, Step-Son - Derrick J. Brewer, Daughters - Lauren L.
Large and Alicia M. Large of Culver, Indiana, and her Mother - Marjory Thomas of Culver, Indiana. She was preceded
in death by her Father - Floyd Thomas and Sister - Donna Zanandrea.

Wendell D. Lewark
October 8, 1925 - September 3, 2007
Wendell D. Lewark, 81, of Culver passed away at 5:44PM on Sept 3, 2007 at his home. Wendell was born on Oct 8, 1925 to
Wendell and Ica (Williams) Lewark in Ft. Wayne, IN, one of 7 children.
After graduating high school, Wendell joined the United States Navy, Marine Division. As a naval corpsman serving overseas,
he earned the American Campaign Medal and the WW II Victory Medal. In the Naval Reserves he served in the Korean War.
With his military service concluded, Wendell married Neysa McIlwain in June 1960 at Marion, IN. She died in 1961.
Wendell retired from Anaconda Wire and Cable Co in New York, NY as the purchasing manager. When he came back to
Culver, he worked for the Culver Academy in purchasing and could be seen walking around Culver with his faithful companion,
Prince.
He belonged to the Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 of Culver and was a Culver Lions Club member.
Wendell will be terribly missed by all his friends at the Culver Senior Apartments and his church.
He is survived by his loving sister - Mildred (Les) McQueen of Ft. Wayne and brother - Paul Leward of Ft. Wayne. His was
preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 brother, and 3 sisters.
A celebration of Wendell's life will be held at a later date.
Andy R. Louk
December 28, 1964 - July 22, 2008
Andy R. Louk, 43, of Culver, IN passed away unexpectedly
Tuesday evening July 22, 2008.
Andy was born on Dec. 28, 1964 in South Bend, IN to Helen
(Coldwater) and Russell J. Louk. The family relocated to Culver
in 1972. He was a graduate of Culver Community Jr/Sr High
School in 1983. Later he received his Accounting Degree from
Ivy Tech in South Bend. He was married to Donna Lee Smith on
Oct. 8, 1988. They later divorced.
He was a member of Santa Anna United Methodist Church,
Argos, IN where he served as Superintendent.
Andy was preceded in death by his father, Russell H. Louk in
Dec 2000. He is survived by his mother, two brothers - Robert
Louk of Ober, IN and Scott Louk of Rochester, IN; and his fiancé
Julie Spano.
Andy was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved to drive and
show off his 1979 Chrysler Cordoba which he had restored. He
enjoyed fishing, playing euchre and cribbage with his family and
friends, and loved his “kitty bear”. Even in death Andy gave to
others by being an organ donor, helping 75 other people.
A time of sharing memories with the family will be held on Sat.
July 26, 2008 from 10:00AM - 1:00PM EDT at the Bonine-Odom
Funeral Home, Culver. Rev. Henry Sprunger will officiate
services at 1:00PM. Interment will follow at the Culver Masonic
Cemetery.

Phyllis L. Mars
July 29, 1920 - October 17, 2007
Phyllis L. Mars, formerly of Culver, passed away at 10:48PM on Oct 17, 2007 in Sun City Center, FL, with her family
by her side.
Phyllis was born on July 29, 1920 in Somerville, MA, one of 5 children born to Anthony and Ida (Christopher) Lavelli. After
graduating from Somerville High School in 1938, she attended and graduated from Fisher College of Boston. She fell in
love and married John Mars on June 25, 1944 and they moved to Culver when he took a position teaching Spanish and
assisting
in football and baseball at the Culver Military Academy in 1941. They were blessed with 2 children.
Phyllis was a member of Epsilon Nu Chapter Kappa Kappa Kappa and was active in the Marshall County Mental
Health Association. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, and taking care of her family. She enjoyed being a part
of the Culver Academy family.
After John's retirement, they moved to Florida where they were members of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church
in Sun City Center.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, John of Sun City Center, FL, sons - Anthony (Kimberly) Mars of Orlando, FL and
Dr. J. Peter (Dr. Brennan) Mars of Boulder, CO; granddaughter - Dana Mars of Boulder, CO; grandson - Garrett Mars of
Boulder, CO; and sisters - Doris Duff of New Hampshire and Virginia Lovett of New Hampshire. She was preceded in
death by her parents and 2 brothers.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the Culver Academies Memorial Chapel at
10AM EST. Burial will follow the service at the Culver Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations
be made to the John and Phyllis Mars Scholarship fund in care of the Culver Academies. A reception with the family will
be held at the Legion Memorial Building on the Culver Academies campus following the burial.
Alice M Mikesell
October 24, 1915 - October 11, 2007
Alice M. Mikesell, 91, of Culver, IN passed away at 4:17PM on October 11, 2007 at Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, IN.
Alice was born on Oct. 24, 1915 in Toledo, OH to Arthur and Minnie (Thayer) Handy. On Oct 6, 1934, she married Donald
E. Mikesell in Plymouth, IN. Mr. Mikesell preceded her in death on January 8, 1984. Her son, Robert, also preceded her
in death in July 2001.
A long-time resident of Culver, Alice worked as a cook for several years at the State Exchange Bank in Culver. She also
worked as a cook for Schori's and Price 's Restaurants in Plymouth. She was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge, Moose
Lodge, and the local VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She was well known throughout Culver as the lady who loved to decorate her home for the different holidays. For many
years, the address on School Street provided the neighborhood with a beautiful array of flowers that bloomed from early
spring to fall.
Alice is survived by her daughter - Janet Lowe of Rochester, son - Donald W. (Carolann) Mikesell of Muncie,
grandchildren - Greg (Donna) Lowe of Rochester, Pam Lowe of Rochester, Jeff (Cynda) Lowe of Indianapolis, Todd
(Anne) Mikesell of Golden, CO, and Kristen (Joe) Mattoni of Seattle, WA, and great-grandchildren - Ashley and Austin
Lowe of Rochester, Conner Lowe of Indianapolis, and Katie, Blaire, and Jack Mikesell of Golden, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, two sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver with a
short visitation beginning at 1:00PM. Memorials may be given to Culver-Union Township Fire Department, the
Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 Ladies Auxiliary, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Dennis R. Mishler
October 12, 1932 - May 13, 2008 Dennis R. Mishler, 75 of Culver, Indiana, died at 6:30
PM on May 13, 2008 at home.
Dennis was born to Roy Mishler and Audrey Bare on October 12, 1932 in LaPorte Indiana.
Dennis R. Mishler is survived by his sons - Jeffery Mishler of Avon, Indiana and Kurt Mishler of Culver,
Indiana, daughter - Dawn (David) Mann of Plymouth, Indiana, Brothers - Terry (Sharon) Mishler of
Kalamazoo, Michigan, Lynn (Jan) Mishler of Leiters Ford, Indiana, and Larry (Jennifer) Mishler of Mena,
Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home on May 16, 2008 from 2:00PM - 8:00PM EDT. Rev.
Robert Metzger will officiate the service which will take place at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at
