Charles M. Tonkel, Jr., age 61, of Columbia City, IN died at 3:35 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2004 at his residence. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN on September 3, 1942 to Charles M. and Olive (Blanchard) Tonkel.
Since childhood, he has resided in the Columbia City and Churubusco areas. He attended Fort Wayne, Collins and Churubusco High Schools. He enlisted in the United States Army serving in Germany from 1960 to 1963. He was employed as a supervisor at C.F. Gomma, formerly Dana Weatherhead Company, Columbia City since 1963. On April 14, 1995, he married Garnet "Ginger" Ruby (Gavin) Langmeier in Columbia City. He was a former member of the Ealges Lodge #1906, Columbia City.
He is survived by his wife,"Ginger," of Columbia City; 2 sons, Cary and Chad Tonkel both of Columbia City; a step son, Brian Lagnmeier of Columbus, OH; a step daughter, Kim Ann Langmeier of Janesville, WI; mother, Olive Tonkel of Collins, IN; a sister, Patti Geiger of Churubusco, IN; and 4 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his father, Charles M. Tonkel, and brothers, Jerry and Dennis Tonkel.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. A memorial service will immediately follow visitation at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at a later date. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Tonkel to the donor's choice.

Max H. Sparks, age 84, of Columbia City, IN died at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday July 8, 2004 at his residence. Born in Cambria, IL on March 24, 1920, he was the son of Joseph Lewis and Della Mae (Silveri) Sparks.
He resided in Illinois until age 16 when he moved to Indiana. He graduated with the Class of 1938 from the high school in Avilla, IN and with the Class of 1951 from Purdue University with a BS Degree in Sociology and Psychology. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II as an Air Traffic Controller. He married Elaine Park on June 24, 1949 in Lafayette, IN at the Central Presbyterian Church. He lived his adult lifetime in the South Whitley and Columbia City areas. A salesman for most of his life, he retired from Mutual of Omaha in 1976 as an insurance salesman. After retirement, he was employed by Scotts Grocery Store in the Administration Department.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Columbia City; 3 daughters, Kathleen (Junior) Gray of Albion, IN, Victoria (Robert) Fry of Pierceton, IN and Christina (Scott) Carpenter of Columbia City; 4 sons, Joseph Sparks of Warsaw, IN, Tony Sparks of Columbia City, Steven Sparks of St. Louis, MO, and Charles Sparks of Columbia City; 2 brothers, Donald Bearden of Texas and Jack Sparks of Arkansas; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Dolph and Chester Sparks and 2 sisters, Sybil Sparks and Nordell Gunderson.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 12, 2004 at 4 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with J. Phillip Blake officiating. Memorial bequests may be given to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana in memory of Mr. Sparks.

He was born on May 10, 1921 in West Franklin Township, Armstrong County, PA to and Clement Joseph and Orpha (Lewis) Ritzert.
He spent his childhood near Freeport, PA and he attended school in Pennslyvania and went to Bob Jones University. He served during World War II, from December 5, 1944 until July 13, 1946 with the United States Army in the 185th Infantry Regiment as a Technician 4th Grade.
He married Marie Martha (Schrock) Geiger on May 29, 1982 in the Dunfee Missionary Church, Dunfee, IN by Rev. Jerry Blanchard.
He was master craftsman, furniture builder and was employed at Endicott Church Furniture Company, Warsaw, IN and was the owner of Special Custom Furniture, Fort Wayne, IN. He loved to travel and read. He was a member of the Dunfee Missionary Church were he was a former deacon, trustee board member, chairman of the audio visual program and most recently a sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Marie M. Ritzert, Fort Wayne, IN; 2 daughters, Mrs. Steven (Marie ) Mast, North Webster, IN and Roger A. (Betty Jean) Kern, Syracuse, IN; 1 daughter in law, Jody Ritzert, Wauseon, OH; 3 stepsons including, Kevin W. (Ann R.) Geiger, Fort Wayne, IN, Dennis D. "Denny" (Joy J.) Geiger, Harlan, IN and Mark L. Geiger, Fort Wayne, IN; 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and 1sister, Alice (Clair) Grafton, Ford City, PA. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, James Richard Ritzert, who died in 1947 and Jackie Lee Ritzert, who died in 1997, 1 step son, Kerry Alan Geiger who died in 1983, 1 sister, Evelyn Lehner and 1 grandson who was stillborn.

Cemetery: Lakeview Cemetery Onedia Shepherd, 66, of 108 South Chauncey Street, Columbia City, IN was found at 11:18 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at her home. She was born in Prestonburg, KY on October 31, 1937 to Samuel Tildon and Goldie (Reed) Hopkins.
As a small child she moved from Kentucky to Silver Lake, IN where she attended school. She married Kelly Eugene "Gene" Shepherd, on August 21, 1956 in Kosciusko County, IN. They moved to Larwill, IN in 1967 and resided there until she moved to home in Columbia City in 2000. She first was employed at the Ion Capacitor and then retired in 2000, after 20 years of service at C.F. Gomma (Weatherhead), Company, Columbia City, IN. She was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church, Columbia City. Her hobbies included shopping, collecting dolls, eating out and spending time with her grandchildren. She also had a very special group of "Clugston Friends" who she played cards with daily.
She is survived by 4 children, Karen (Dakota) Seals, Elkhart, IN, Gary (Connie) Shepherd, Kalida, OH, Larry (Jo) Shepherd, Pierceton, IN and Kristy (Doyle) Kincaid, Columbia City, IN. Her mother, Goldie (Edward) Hopkins-Cole, Knox, IN; 1 sister, Pamela (Michael) Wood, Bristol, IN, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Samuel Tildon Hopkins, who died in May 1964, her husband, Kelly Eugene "Gene" Shepherd, who died in March 1984 and a special friend, Margie Hintz.

He was born in Sheridian, IN on July 15, 1911 to William Oscar Hiriam McKinzie and Minnie (Spencer) McKinzie. He attended school in Sheridian, IN and later moved to Fort Wayne, IN and in 1951 he moved to his Union Township farm. He married Helen Irene Amons on October 22, 1932 in Columbia City, IN. He worked for General Electric Company for 41 years, first working as a machinist, then as a cable winder and for the last 15 years of his career he drove semi truck for G.E. where hs also was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed farming through age 80 and loved working on old tractors.
He is survived by 2 sons, William Edward (Lillian) and Donald Wayne McKinzie and 1daughter, Barbara (Rex) Roberson all of Columbia City, IN; 11grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen Irene McKinzie, who died on October 31, 1990, 1 daughter, Phyllis Marie Snyder, 1 daughter-in-law, Jeanine E. She first worked at Blue Bell, Columbia CIty, IN and then became an O. B. Aide for 26 years at the Whitley County Hospital. She also assisted her husband in the general operation of the Warsaw Race Track.
She is survived by 2 sons, Merlin E. (Pat) Gibson of Columbia City, IN and Richard L. (Pat) Gibson of Phoenix, AZ; 2 daughters, Margery (Doyle) Weigold and Marilyn (Jerry) Smith both of Columbia City, IN; 2 sisters, Mary A. Kitson and Arlene Wince both of Columbia City, IN; 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Claris E. Cemetery: South Whitley (Cleveland Township) Cemetery Marvin Leo "Tim" Zorger, age 79, of 9513 S 450 W, Cleveland Township, South Whitley, IN 46787 died at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at his home. He was born on February 16, 1925 in Allen County, IN to Dewey E. and Bessie May (Stouder) Zorger.
He spent his early childhood in Allen County on Covington Road and he then graduated from Jefferson Center High School with the Class of 1943. He served as a Private First Class in the Air Transport Command in Hawaii with the United States Army from July, 1945 until December, 1946. His basic training was in Mississippi and M.P. training in Colorado. He married Nadean May Taylor on October 5, 1947 at Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church. He was employed as the mill manager for 22 years at the Allen County Co-Op, Arcola Branch and he was also a general farmer. He was a member and former superintendent of Clear Creek Church, Huntington County, IN. He loved gardening and he was an avid fisherman. Since 1966, he has resided at his present home south of South Whitley.

Jean (Mowry) Lovellette, 80, passed away Aug. 3, 2004 in Ft. Wayne. She was born Jan. 7, 1924 in Princeton to William F. and Eva J. (Meeker) Mowry.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Elijah and Rebecca (Sharp) White, both of Ft. Wayne; five grandchildren, Ryan Elijah and Angela (Elijah) Kisler, of Ft. Wayne, Jill (Elijah) May, of Alexandria, Va., Shanon (Sharp) Myers, of Rolla, Mo., and Cody Sharp, of Jefferson City, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley and Seth Kisler, James, Isaiah and Hannah May, Jacob and Luke Elijah, and Skyler Myers; a sister, Lois Olmstead, of Kokomo; a brother, Don F. Mowry, of Rolla, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents William F. and Eva J. (Meeker) Mowry; sisters, Grace Wildridge, Dorothy Rumer and Hazel Olmstead; and brothers, Kenneth, Bill and Claude Mowry.

Frederick Wayne (Zeke) Skelton
Frederick Wayne (Zeke) Skelton, 67, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 at The Waters of Princeton, in Princeton. He was born Aug. 25, 1936 in Princeton and lived in the city for most of his life.
He was a retired city of Princeton employee and was a member of the Princeton Holiness Tabernacle Church. He was an avid bowler and bowled in several leagues.
He is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Sue Phipps, of North Vernon, and Charolette Ann Lambert, of Argos; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Lucille Mae (Satterfield) Skelton; a sister, Connie Kay Skelton; and wives, Jeanette Skelton and Mary Lou (Ritchie) Skelton.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Colvin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Meadows officiating and burial at Providence Cemetery. Velda M. Morrow
Velda M. Morrow, 75, of Atoka, Tenn., formerly of Mattoon and Albion, died on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, in Tipton County, Tenn.
Mrs. Morrow was a former school bus driver in Brownsville, Ill., and a former member of the Mattoon and Albion First Southern Baptist Churches. She was an active member in the Albion Senior Citizens, Bible study group and knitting circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. "Gar" Morrow; her parents, Eula and Marcus Butler; two brothers, Herman and Marcus Butler; and her sister, Mary Fran Messman.
She is survived by a son, James W. Morrow of Ardmore, Ala.; daughters Fran M. Sestina of Atoka, Tenn., and Peggy L. Jones of Naples, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Schillings Funeral Home in Mattoon. Graveside service and intermenty will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Campground Cemetery in Mattoon.

Viola M. (Greubel) Neidig
FORT BRANCH-Viola M. (Greubel) Neidig, 82, of Fort Branch, died Thursday August 5, 2004 at her home.
She was born January 31, 1922, in Haubstadt to the late Nicholas & Lena (Greubel) Greubel, she was preceded in death by a son David in 1953; two sisters, Dorothy Field and Mary Miller; and a brother, Austin Greubel.
She was a housewife and member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, John E. (Jack) Neidig Sr.; five sons and daughters-in-laws, John and Dorcas of Wadesville, James and Cindy of Springfield, Ill., Tom and Cathy of Fort Branch, Mike and Brenda of Evansville and Larry and Cindy of Wooster, Ohio; five daughters and sons-in-laws, Janet and John Weiss of Haubstadt, Sarah and Ed Drake of Franklin, Ky., Barbara and Randy Dike of Owensville, Jackie and Jeff Steckler of Haubstadt and Rita and Greg Wilzbacher of Haubstadt; a sister, Lillian Hollis of Fort Branch; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday August 7, 2004 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch with the Pastoral team officiating.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville, and from 9 a.m. until the service time at the church Saturday morning. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening by the parish.

Ronald F. Douglas
Ronald F. Douglas, 72, formerly of Princeton, died at his home in Haines City, Fla., Aug. 4, 2004.
He was a graduate of Princeton High School, a veteran of the Vietnam War and was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a brakeman for the Southern and Amtrak railroads before retiring in 1994 and moving to Florida from Princeton. He had been a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and the Moose Lodge in Princeton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Vicky and his parents Rudy and Harry Douglas.
He is survived by his wife Joan; two brothers, Harry Gilman, of Princeton, and Steven Michael Douglas of Marietta, Ga.; a niece, Kathy Mills, and a nephew, Thomas A. Douglas, of Florida.
There will be no funeral services. He will be cremated and interred at Arlington National Cemetery with military rites.

Newburgh resident John R. Coombs died Sunday, July 25 at his residence. he was 88.
John was born June 1, 1916 in St. Louis, Mo. He received dual degrees in Petroleum and Geological Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and was an independent Geological Engineer. John was a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Owensboro, Ky.
John is survived by several cousins, all of St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 27 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Owensboro, Ky. Burial was Wednesday, July 28 in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Ky.
Titzer Family Funeral Home-Meyer Chapel in Evansville handled the arrangements.

Grace Maier
Former Boonville resident Grace E. Maier died Wednesday, July 28 at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center in Evansville. She was 84.
Grace was a member of Hemenway Memorial Presbyterian Church in Boonville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Maier, in 1986; and one brother, Donald Collins.
Grace is survived by one daughter, Leona Joyce Hutchinson of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sister, Betty Austin of Portland, Ore., and Pauline Smith of Oceanside, Calif.; one brother, Eugene Collins of Jeffersonville; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held July 31 at Koehler Funeral Home-Boonville Chapel, with burial following in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville.

Newburgh resident Hannah "Ann" Goffinet died Friday, July 30 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. She was 80.
She was a homemaker. Hannah was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edwin Goffinet of Newburgh; one son, Max Goffinet of Newburgh; two daughters, Marlene Goffinet of Lexington, Ky., and Darlene Wefel of Newburgh; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ivan Beckman of London, England.
Mass was held Monday, Aug. 2 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with burial at St. John's Cemetery. A prayer service was held on Monday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel. A memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 1 at the chapel.

Charles Evans
Chandler resident Charles Evans died Thursday, July 29 at the St. Mary's Warrick Hospital in Boonville. He was 63.
Charles was a retired roofer. He had lived in this area since 1989, when he moved here from Aurora, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter A. Evans; a brother, James R. Evans Sr.; and a grandson.
Charles is survived by his mother, Beulah M. Evans of Boonville; his wife of 31 years, Patty Evans of Chandler; three daughters, Tonya Donelson and Tammy Oquendo, both of Aurora, Ill., and Brandy Bunch of Boonville; four sons, Terry Winters and Timothy Evans, both of Boonville, Russell Evans of Chandler and Quentin Evans of Owensboro, Ky.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 2 at Koehler Funeral Home-Boonville Chapel, with Rev. Gene Marcum officiating. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery in Boonville.
