Clara Tarver
Services for Clara Tarver, 77, of 2710N 450E, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel.
She died at 8 p.m. Monday, June 14, 1999, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 22, 1922, in Cass County, she was the daughter of John F. and Mamie B. Allen Maxwell. She was married on Feb. 14, 1944, in Logansport to Woodrow "Woody" Tarver, who survives.
Mrs. Tarver had been employed at Co-Tronics Manufacturing, retiring in 1984. A homemaker, she enjoyed viewing wildlife and feeding the birds.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Brenda Tarver, Lafayette; a sister and two brothers-in-law, Opal and Jesse Morgan, Logansport, and Duane E. Tarver, Lake Placid, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother, Fred Maxwell, and one sister, Edna Rentschler, preceded in death.
The Rev. Michael Williams will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the cemetery chapel.

Kenny Norwood
VENICE, Fla. -- Services for Kenny Norwood, 78, of Venice, formerly of Logansport, will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, in Ewing Funeral Home, 140 E. Venice Ave., Venice.
He died Monday in Venice.
Born July 12, 1920, in Logansport, he had moved to Venice 44 years ago.
Mr. Norwood served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was past post commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8118 in Venice, and was past District 10 Commander in Florida.
He was the former owner and operator of Kenny Norwood Roofing and Sheet Metal. He also was a member of the Eagles.
Surviving are his wife, Nita Norwood, Venice; one daughter, Vickie Roppolo, Venice; one son, Stephen K. Norwood, Nokomis, Fla.; one sister, Yola Crist, Logansport; two brothers, Glen Norwood, Kokomo, and William Norwood, Nokomis, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Mary B. ‘May’ Ferguson
MONTICELLO -- Services for Mary B. "May" Ferguson, 66, of 6542 E. Palmer Dr. (Buffalo community), will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Miller-Roscka Funeral Home.
She died at 3:55 p.m. Monday, June 7, 1999, at her residence, following several months of failing health.
Born Oct. 31, 1932, in Scotland, she was the daughter of John and Margaret Shaw Adam Barr. In 1958, in England, she was married to Jack Ferguson, who died Aug. 4, 1982.
May had lived in the Buffalo community for over 30 years. For 15 years, she was employed at the Monticello RCA plant. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially being with her grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Paul and Paulette Ferguson, Monticello, and Glen Ferguson, San Diego, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law, Senga and Bruce Peters, Monticello; five sisters and a brother, Jenette Ken, Isa McDonald, Nan Sibbeld, Jessie Morton, Anna Friels, and Tommy Bryce, all of Scotland; and four grandchildren.
One sister, Margaret, preceded in death.
Dr. James Elliott will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Forest A. Elliott
ROYAL CENTER -- Services for Forest A. Elliott, 93, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Logansport, formerly of Route 2, Royal Center, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel.
He died at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 1999, in Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born Sept. 21, 1905, in Harrison Township, Cass County, he was the son of Albert and Effa Brown Elliott. He was married July 23, 1944, in Washington Township, Cass County, to Mildred P. Leffert Chapman, who died July 20, 1992.
Mr. Elliott was the oldest resident of Harrison Township. A retired farmer, he belonged to Modern Woodmen of America.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Lucerne, and liked to cut wood as well as play cards and dominoes.
Surviving are a stepson, Hobert E. Chapman, Logansport; a sister, Maude Thompson, Clearwater, Fla.; three half brothers, George Elliott, Paoli, Donald Elliott, Logansport, and Lester Elliott, Lucerne; one half sister, Helen Mae Lucas, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandsons, Mark Chapman, Lucerne, and Scott Chapman, Logansport; and five great-grandsons, Jeremy, Alex, Jonathon, and David Chapman, and Kyle Morehead.
Two half brothers and three half sisters preceded in death.
The Rev. David Sommers will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Zion Methodist Cemetery, Lucerne.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Friday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Methodist Church.
Robert C. Tolf
WINAMAC -- Robert C. Tolf, 70, of Livingston, Mont., formerly of Winamac, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, in Livingston Memorial Hospital.
There will be no visitation or services. Burial will take place today in McKinley Memorial Gardens, Winamac.
Frain Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mary E. Vories
MONTICELLO -- Services for Mary E. Vories, 71, of 3076N 800E, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home.
She died at 4:12 p.m. Monday, June 7, 1999, in Home Hospital, Lafayette, after an extended illness.
Born Oct. 9, 1927, in Jasper County, she was the daughter of Walter and Elfrieda Westfall. On June 20, 1948, in Monticello, she was married to Robert Vories, who survives.
Mrs. Vories was a 1945 graduate of Rensselaer High School. She had worked at the former Alkire-Luse Oldsmobile Dealership and the former RCA plant, both in Monticello.
She was a member of the Salem-St. James Church of Christ near Francesville, and was a volunteer at the White County Historical Museum since 1992.
Also surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Penny and Butch Crain, Monticello, and Joni and Tom Spence, Yeoman; one brother, Karl Westfall, Francesville; and six grandchildren.
The Rev. Stephen E. Koenig will officiate at the services. Burial will be at the Salem-St. James Cemetery, Francesville.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the White County Historical Museum and the American Cancer Society.
Ellsworth R. Butz
SOUTH BEND -- Services for Ellsworth R. Butz, 97, of Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, South Bend, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
He died at 7:24 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, in the care facility.
Born July 9, 1901, in Logansport, he was the son of Norman and Edna Lenon Butz. On Jan. 22, 1920, in St. Joseph, Mich., he was married to Edith Burdella Wysong, who died Dec. 12, 1984.
Mr. Butz retired in 1950 from the South Bend Police Department after 20 years of service. After retirement, he became a safety director for Clements Truck Lines, retiring from Clements in 1966.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka. He was a 50-year member of the Portage Masonic Lodge #675 F&AM, and a member of the South Bend Scottish Rite.
Surviving are one daughter, Edna Douglas, Osceola; one son, Robert Butz, Mishawaka; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Daniel Motto of the Mishawaka First United Methodist Church will officiate at the services.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Nathan J. Spangler
FLORA -- Services for Nathan John Spangler, 89, of 1404 S. Center St., Bringhurst, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Reinke Funeral Home.
He died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at his residence.
Pastor Jeff Peters will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Cave Town Cemetery, Campbellsburg.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Dorothann Beecher
DENVER -- Dorothann Beecher, 75, of Denver, died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday at her residence.
Arrangements are pending at McClain Funeral Home.
Rev. Lowell W. Townsend
The Rev. Lowell W. Townsend, 74, of Knoxville, Tenn., died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, in the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn.
Born July 19, 1925, in Logansport, he was the son of Samuel and Ethel Larrison Townsend. On Dec. 6, 1943, he was married in Logansport to Ruth Margaret "Peggy" Whitney, who survives.
A 1942 graduate of Logansport High School, he also graduated from Georgetown University and Christian Theological Seminary. He was a minister in the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church for 43 years. He also taught communication at Christian Theological Seminary and was active in mission work team service.
He was a trustee for the Bashor United Methodist Home for Youth and United Methodist Memorial Home. A decorated World War II veteran, he served with the 102nd Infantry Division in Europe. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and attended Bearden United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Kenneth Linsner, Sloatsburg, N.Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Linda Townsend, Knoxville, Tenn.; a grandson and his wife, Whitney and Lara Linsner, and four other grandchildren, Jacob, Susannah, Bethany and David Townsend; two sisters, Neva Koske, Logansport, and Ruth Hannagan, Newton, Iowa; and one brother, Sam, Ames, Iowa.
One son, Ben Townsend, preceded in death.
Funeral services will not be held. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bearden United Methodist Church.

Robert A. Saucier
PERU -- Services for Robert A. Saucier, 62, of 465 E. Third St., will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.
He died at 10:49 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, in Dukes Memorial Hospital.
The Rev. Paul Cochran will officiate the services. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery, Cass County.

Charlotte E. Lutz
WABASH -- Services for Charlotte Erna Lutz, 80, of 625 W. Maple St., Wabash, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Eddingfield-DeLaughter Mortuary, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash.
She died at 3:11 a.m. Friday, June 11, 1999, in Wabash County Hospital.
Born June 11, 1919, in Oshkosh, Wis., she was the daughter of Ernest and Louise Kuhlow. On Aug. 17, 1941, she was married to Raymond H. Lutz, who died Oct. 21, 1997.
Mrs. Lutz was a beautician and was also employed for 15 years at Ford Meter Box.
She belonged to St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, as well as the Moose Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary, all in Wabash.
Surviving are one son, Lonnie Lutz, Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Kathy (Thann) Mughmaw, Logansport; and six grandchildren.
One brother and one sister preceded in death.
The Rev. Richard Rensner will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today in the mortuary.
Betty Arwood
PERU -- A graveside service for Betty Arwood, 71, of Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery.
She died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 1999, in Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.
Pastor Philip Krupski will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.
There will be no visitation.

Clyde R. Collins
FLORA -- Services for Clyde R. Collins, 73, of 9021W 310N, Delphi, will be held at 2 p.m. today in Baker Funeral Home.
