Alice Belue
Alice L. Belue, 83, Michigan City, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at Carroll Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center.
The funeral is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carlisle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ellis Ray Floyd of Alabama officiating. Burial is in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Belue was born Feb., 23, 1920, in Luka, Miss., to Toy and Nora (Robinson) Bonds. She married George Belue, who died Nov. 13, 1981.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Caddo, Michigan City; three sons, Gary (Patricia) Belue, LaPorte, Terry Belue, Hanna, and Leon (Kristine) Belue, Michigan City; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; and one sister, Mattie (Noonan) Floyd, Luka.
She was preceded in death by one son, Berry L. Belue, and six brothers.
Mrs. Belue was a homemaker. She was a life member of Pines Bible Church and was a grade-school teacher at Central Grade School in Luka. She attended Delta State University in Delta, Miss.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pines Bible Church.
James Edwards Sr.
LaPORTE -- James Larkin Edwards Sr., 89, formerly of Oakwood Manor, LaPorte, died at 6 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at Fountainview Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, LaPorte.
A private family service will be held at a later date. There is no visitation. Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, handled the arrangements.
Mr. Edwards was born March 30, 1914, in Roodhouse, Ill., to Orville and Ella (Weiser) Edwards. On May 20, 1968, in Valparaiso, he married Thelma Anderson, who survives in Nashville, Tenn.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Bianco, Valparaiso; four sons, Dr. James Edwards, LaPorte, John Edwards, Honolulu, Hawaii, Jeff Edwards, Michigan City, and Joel Edwards, Maui, Hawaii; eight grandchildren; two stepsons, Gordon Anderson, Bulgaria, and Keith Anderson, Nashville.
He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Mr. Edwards was a superintendent at U.S. Steel Gary Works for 32 years. He was a Augustana University graduate.

Thomas Hines
UNION, Mich. -- Thomas Allen Hines, 55, Union, died at 1:04 a.m. Monday (Sept. 22, 2003) at Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church, Bristol, Ind., with the Rev. Tim Ljunggren officiating. Burial is in East Union Cemetery, Union, with military graveside services by Elkhart DAV Chapter 19. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart, and 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church.
He was born Sept. 17, 1948, in Hammond, Ind., to Robert O. and Elizabeth (Mazur) Hines. His mother survives in Highland, Ind. On Feb. 25, 1976, in Michigan City, he married Rhonda J. Stephens, who survives.
Also surviving is one daughter, Kristen I. (Todd) Tufnell, Topsham, Maine; two sons, Patrick A. Hines, Logansport, Ind., and Justin P. Hines, Indianapolis; a brother, James (Debbie) Hines, Evansville; five sisters, Carol Shelton, Old Hickory, Tenn., Donna (Milt) Price , Gary; Denise Hines, Highland; Debbie Fleming, Dyer, Ind.; and Mary Beth (Mike) Knapp, South Carolina; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Hines was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam and a member of the St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church. He also was a member of the Porter Township Fire Department and past president of the Indiana Lake Association. He enjoyed water sports.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Porter Township Fire Department.
Irene Olson
LaPORTE -- Irene Virginia Olson, 85, LaPorte, died at 11 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at her home.
A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. David Sickelka officiating. Cremation has taken place, and intermenty of the ashes will be in Pine Lake Cemetery. There is no visitation.
She was born Sept. 21, 1918, in LaPorte to William and Victoria (Witek) Borawski. On Oct. 7, 1981, she married Henry W. Olson, who died Oct. 16, 1982.
Survivors include one brother, Richard (Dianne) Borawski, LaPorte; two sisters, Jean Miller, LaPorte, and Bernice (Bernard) Grossman, Los Angeles; one stepson, Dr. David Olson, LaPorte; two stepdaughters, Barbara Line, South Haven, Mich., and Christine Semotuk; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister, Helen Okrzesik, and one brother, Adolph "Abe" Borawski, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Olson worked at several retail stores in LaPorte. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, LaPorte Yacht Club and LaPorte St. Paul United Church of Christ.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the charity of the donor's choice.
Merle Whitney
Merle I. Whitney, 93, Michigan City, and Jackson, Mich., died Monday morning (Sept. 22, 2003) at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. EDT Thursday at First Church of Christ Christian, 2395 W. High St., Jackson, with Michael D. Mason officiating. Private intermenty will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, Mich. Visitation will be from noon EDT until the service Thursday at the church. J.L. Watson Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Gerald A.) Gronceski, Duneland Beach; three grandsons, David (Kathleen) Gronceski, Poplar Grove, Ill., James Whitney (Sheryl) Gronceski, Valparaiso, and Steven M. (Jennifer) Gronceski, Long Beach; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and their families in Grand Rapids and Grand Ledge.
Also preceding Mrs. Whitney in death were her husband, Floyd L. Whitney; and four sisters, Gretchen Poe, Travie B. Howard, Jean Gilbert and Charalee Haines.
Mrs. Whitney was a past president of the Jackson City Women's Club. She also belonged to the First Church of Christ Christian.
Gladys Miller
CHESTERTON -- Gladys Irene Miller, 95, Chesterton, died Monday (Sept. 22, 2003) at the VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St., Chesterton, with Pastor Ronald Larson officiating. Burial will be in Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Miller was born Feb. 20, 1908, in East Chicago, Ind., to William and Minnie (Jackson) Klinkman. On Dec. 7, 1926, she married Chester Miller, who died June 30, 1985.
Survivors include one daughter, Delores (John) Hancock, Albion, Ind.; one son, William (Nancy) Miller, Chesterton; six grandchildren, Michael (Kelly) Miller, Valparaiso, Wendy (Bill) Kappas, Valparaiso, Dean Miller, Chesterton, Beth Hancock, Valparaiso, Judy (Rob) Ditto, Valparaiso, and Janet (Gerry) Stanley, Channelview, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Justin and Jenny Stanley, Jeremy and Jamie Miller, Nicholas and Derek Kappas, and Brendon, Emily and Anna Ditto; a special nephew, William (Nancy) Klinkman; a special niece, Shirley (Lloyd) Brooks; nephews Kevine Klinkman and Scott Sauter; a great-niece, Kate Brooks; great-nephews Joe, Matt and Alex Klinkman; two sisters-in-law, Edith Klinkman, Chesterton, and Roberta Klinkman, Indianapolis; and a cousin, Dale (Marge) Clinkman.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Wilbert and Richard Klinkman, and two sisters, Doris House and Mary Sauter.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and longtime resident of the Chesterton area. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton, and a member of the W.E.L.C.A. of the church. She was also a member of the Chesterton Women's Club and the Duneland Historical Society.
Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
Stephen Keeling
Stephen D. Keeling, 39, Michigan City, died at 10:55 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2003) in Michigan City.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte. Burial will be in Pine Lake Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 8, 1963, in Greenville, Ky., to Leon and Lois (Bratcher) Keeling.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Lois and Virgil Browning, Greenville, Ky.; three brothers, David (Debbie) Keeling, Michigan City, Ronnie (Betty) Keeling and Doyle (Leona) Keeling, both of LaPorte; his stepmother, Wanda Keeling, Stillwell; four stepbrothers; three stepsisters; seven nieces; and nine nephews.
Also preceding Mr. Keeling in death were his father, Leon Keeling, on Sept. 21, 2001; one nephew, Adam Keeling; and two stepbrothers.
Mr. Keeling was a self-employed woodworker. He had attended Christ Gospel Church in LaPorte.

Dwight Michard
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Dwight J. Michard, 79, North Fort Myers, formerly of Trail Creek, died Tuesday (Sept. 2, 2003) at Lee Memorial Hospital, Cape Coral, Fla.
Cremation has taken place and private family burial of the cremains will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Michigan City at a later date. Root Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
He was born March 3, 1924, in Detroit, to Charles and Matilda (Spear) Michard. On Feb. 5, 1949, in Chicago, he married Virginia "Ginny" Timm, who died Aug. 15, 1987. In August 2003, in Fort Myers, he married Carol Nice, who survives.
Survivors also include one daughter, Linda Lewartowski, Michigan City; two grandsons, Eric Lewartowski and Brad (Stephanie) Lewartowski, both of Michigan City; two great-grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.
One brother also preceded Mr. Michard in death.
Mr. Michard was retired as a plumber for Lutz & Foreman in Michigan City after 14 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Michard was a former member of the John Franklin Miller American Legion 37 and Plumbers Local 433.
