Judith Diedrich
VALPARAISO -- Judith A. Diedrich, 63, Valparaiso, formerly a longtime LaPorte resident, died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 4, 2003) at her Valparaiso home.
A remembrance gathering is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte. Cremation will take place.
Miss Diedrich was born May 4, 1940, in North Liberty, Ind., to Henry Herman Carl and Genevia Rose (Weldon) Diedrich, who are deceased.
Surviving are two brothers, Gerry Dean Diedrich, Fort Wayne, and James Lee Diedrich, LaPorte; many nieces and nephews; and a loving companion, Harriet Rynholtz, Valparaiso.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Miss Diedrich was employed in janitorial work.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
David Garrison
LaPORTE -- David Paul Garrison, 53, LaPorte, died at 9 a.m. Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. David Gibbs officiating. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 13, 1949, in LaPorte to Edward and Mary (Conley) Garrison, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 26, 1986, in LaPorte, he married Maureen Keenan, who survives in LaPorte.
Survivors also include three daughters, Kinlynn (Troy) Gill and Shannon and Brittany Garrison, all of LaPorte; two sons, Ian and Travis Garrison, both of LaPorte; one grandson, Ty Gill, LaPorte; two sisters, Bonnie Durham and Rosemary Leonard, both of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Lester Wayne Bealor, Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his foster father, Lester W. Bealor.
Mr. Garrison retired as a GTE lineman after 25 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Hubner-Swanson Post 1130 and Hamon Gray American Legion Post 83.
Kevin Kaczka
Kevin J. Kaczka, 47, Michigan City, died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 5, 2003) of natural causes at his home.
The funeral is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Cremation is planned, and the ashes will be privately interred. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
He was born Jan. 14, 1956, in Michigan City to Julian A. and Darlene (Koenig) Kaczka. His father preceded him in death.
Survivors include his mother, Darlene Kaczka, Michigan City; two sons, Kraig Kaczka, LaPorte, and Kristopher Kaczka, U.S. Army, Germany; one sister, Kimberly (Louis) Ritter, Three Oaks, Mich.; and one niece, Natasha Ritter, Three Oaks.
Mr. Kaczka worked as a crane operator for Universal Recycling in Chesterton.

Jennie Kuk
LaPORTE -- Jennie J. "Nan" Kuk, 73, LaPorte, died at 7:40 a.m. Saturday (0ct. 4, 2003) at her home.
The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPorte, with the Rev. Gerald A. Sroka officiating. Burial is in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte. A prayer service is at 6 tonight at the funeral home.
Miss Kuk was born Feb. 17, 1930, in LaPorte. She never married.
Survivors include nieces, Carol Welsh, Union Mills, and Sandy Drnek, LaPorte, as well as 14 other nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Olga Blank, Stella Rice, Genevieve Phillips, Bernice Drnek and Helen Belzowski; six brothers, Adam, Edward, Casimir, Gustave, Walter and Stanley Kuk; one niece, Rose Belzowski, and one nephew, Ren/ Rice.
Miss Kuk retired from Whirlpool as a packer after 15 years of service. She formerly worked for Indiana Moulding & Frame. She was a member of Polish National Alliance and U.A.W. Local 1172.

Virginia Ambrose
Virginia F. Ambrose, 82, Michigan City, died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 7, 2003) at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers as the result of an auto accident.
The funeral is at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Carlisle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Rosson officiating. Burial is in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 12:30 p.m. until the funeral Friday at the funeral home.
She was born May 8, 1921, in Jennys Creek, Ky., to Manford and Laura (May) Dixon. On May 28, 1966, in LaPorte, she married James Ambrose, who survives in Michigan City.
Survivors also include two sons, Roger (Jane) Bernard and Gregory Bernard, both of LaPorte; one daughter, Donna Maglio, LaPorte; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Bildhauser, Christopher Bernard, both of LaPorte, and Kim (Rick) Carter, Nashville, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Woods, West Prestonsburg, Ky.; two brothers, Carl (Jean) Dixon, Flatwoods, Ky., and Paul (Ruth) Dixon, Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by one son, Larry J. Ambrose; one daughter, Brenda Ambrose Patterson; two brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Ambrose was employed at Austenal Manufacturing, LaPorte, as a laborer for 10 years. She loved to spend time with her family. She was a devoted Christian, attending Harvest Time Church of God, and taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was former president of the church's Ladies Ministries.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter.
Dennis Keeney
Dennis J. Keeney, 48, Michigan City, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 7, 2003) at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Carlisle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Victoria Smith officiating. Cremation will take place.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born March 27, 1955, in Michigan City, to Gene and Betty J. (Peters) Keeney. His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors include his life partner, Deborah L. Schofield, Michigan City; two sons, James E. Schofield and Matthew B. Woolum, both of Michigan City; one daughter, Christy L. Woolum, Michigan City; two sisters, Patricia (Chester) Webb, Michigan City, and Dolly (Charlie) Grubbs, Escondido, Calif.; and two brothers, Gene Keeney and Charles (Lisa) Keeney, both of Michigan City.
Mr. Keeney began his cooking career with his family's restaurant, Gene's, on Michigan Boulevard. He then spent 13 years at the Michigan City Elks Club and 18 years at the LaPorte Ramada Inn as master chef. He loved to spend time with his family, and he will always be remembered as a kind and loving friend. Mr. Keeney also enjoyed fishing and collecting coins.

Marian Majcher
LaPORTE -- Marian A. Majcher, 86, LaPorte, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 7, 2003) at her daughter Jean's home in New Carlisle.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Haverstock Funeral Home, with Pastor Ricky Bray officiating. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until the funeral Friday at Haverstock Funeral Home.
She was born April 1, 1917, in LaPorte, to Edward and Lucinda (Smith) Cook.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean (Ralph) Cavinder, New Carlisle, Julie (Bill) Cleek, Union Mills, and Shirley (Al) Roland, Aylett, Va.; one son, Joseph (Glenda) Majcher, Mechanicsville, Va.; one sister, June (Jake) Clanton, Doniphan, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding Mrs. Majcher in death were two daughters, Joan and Judith Majcher; five sisters; and one brother.
Mrs. Majcher was retired, having worked at American Rubber and Plastic. She was a giving, loving and caring person. Mrs. Majcher always worried about other people's needs. She was a loving mother and grandmother to all. A nature lover, Mrs. Majcher also enjoyed plants and flowers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Charles Whitehouse
CHESTERTON -- Charles David Whitehouse, 58, Chesterton, died Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at the University of Chicago Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton, with Pastor Ronald Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso.
Visitation is Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at the funeral home, 525 S. Second St.
Mr. Whitehouse was born July 22, 1945, in Central City, Ky., to Charles T. and Vara Catherine (Mathis) Whitehouse. He married Brenda J. Orange, who survives in Chesterton.
Survivors also include two sons, Tim (Vicky) Whitehouse, Raleigh, N.C., and Mark Whitehouse, Las Vegas; four step-children, Donna Council, LaPorte, Brian Taylor, Chesterton, and Tom and Jim Wood, both of Monroe, Wis; eight grandchildren; and one sister, Carrie Sue (Ronald) Brindisi, Valparaiso.
Mr. Whitehouse was a 1963 graduate of Morton High School, Hammond, and served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
He was an auto salesman with Grieger Motors in Valparaiso and a long-time resident of the Calumet area.
He was a member of South Haven Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher, song leader and soloist.
Memorials may be made to the Porter County Cancer Society.
Audrey Hardacker
Audrey Marie Hardacker, 72, Michigan City, died at 2:31 a.m. Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry Trueblood and the Rev. Sue Aikman officiating. Burial is in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Carlisle Funeral Home.
She was born April 29, 1931, in Michigan City to Henry and Dorothy (Britzka) Stone. On June 25, 1949, in Michigan City, she married Marcus Hardacker, who survives.
Survivors also include two sons, John (Joanne) Hardacker, Michigan City, and David (Donna) Hardacker, Mountain Home, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Jenny, Mark, Megan, Carol, Adam, Katy, Jeffrey, Robin, Rick and Tammy; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Connie Jean Stone, Atlanta; two brothers, Jack (Shirley) Stone, New Buffalo, Mich., and Kenneth Stone, Michigan City; and one step-brother, Bob (Joan) Deusing, Fort Wayne.
She was preceded in death by a stepmother, Mildred Stone.
Mrs. Hardacker was employed in material control at Dage MTI for 13 years. She was a member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and a Senior Citizens Center member.

Eldean Brinkman
LaPORTE -- Eldean K. Brinkman, 76, LaPorte, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 9, 2003) at St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Young officiating. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Haverstock Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until the service Monday at the church.
Mrs. Brinkman was born Nov. 23, 1926, in LaPorte, to Andrew and Mina (Johnson) Gribble. On June 1, 1946, in LaPorte, she married James E. Brinkman, who died July 20, 1987.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Lawrence, Rolling Prairie; one brother, Fred Gribble, Kingsford Heights; two granddaughters, Heather Jonas and Nicole (Matthew) Schuster; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding Mrs. Brinkman in death were one sister and seven brothers.
Mrs. Brinkman had lived all her life in the LaPorte area. She was a sales clerk for Danner's Store. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mrs. Brinkman also was a member of the senior group and the women's club of the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund of LaPorte Hospital.
Edward Hartke
LaPORTE -- Edward L. Hartke, 74, LaPorte, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 11, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Baptist Church, Michigan City, with the Rev. John Rumley officiating. Interment is in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mr. Hartke was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Michigan City to Edward J. and Margaret (Swiger) Hartke.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Sharon "Mills" (Richard) Russ, Mill Creek; two sons, Larry (Kathy) Hartke, Michigan City, and Edward Wayne (Janet) Hartke, LaPorte; seven grandchildren, Beth Rensberger, Gloria Eiff, Lisa Wilson, Samuel Hartke, Rebecca Stevens, and Kimberly and Scott Hartke; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Ann Wozniak, Michigan City.
Mr. Hartke worked at Joy Manufacturing as a draftsman for 38 years, then at ANCO Inc. for 1 1/2 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church, where he served as financial secretary for 30 years, trustee for 16 years and drove the church bus for many years. He also was on the ministry of buses committee. He was president of Men for Mission Committee, served on the Springfield Township Trustee Board and Springfield Township Sewer Board, was a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Joy Federal Credit Union Board and Joy Employees Association. He received his private pilot's license at 16, served as commander of the Civil Air Patrol and was first president of Joy Elementary School P.T.A. in Michigan City.
