Jeffery Mullins
Jeffery Lee "Moose" Mullins, 45, Michigan City, died of natural causes at 10 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 12, 2003) at Methodist Hospital, Chicago.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Ronald A. Moore officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from noon until the service Monday at the funeral chapel.
He was born Sept. 11, 1958, in Michigan City, to Earl K. and Mildred (Coots) Mullins, who survive in Michigan City.
Survivors also include two daughters, Amanda and Courtney Mullins, both of Michigan City; one brother, Rodney Mullins, Phoenix, Ariz.; paternal grandmother Pearlie Mullins, Michigan City; two granddaughters, Savanah Pippin and Shelby Sue Pippin, both of Michigan City; and special friend Helen Britton, Michigan City.
Preceding Mr. Mullins in death were his maternal grandparents, Maude and Riley Coots; paternal grandfather Willis Mullins; and three uncles, Ronnie Coots, Worley Coots and Clyde Mullins.
Mr. Mullins was an order picker at Josam Mfg. for seven years. He then was the owner of the Wood Surgeon in Michigan City.
Francis Riordan
WALKERTON, Ind. -- Francis A. Riordan, 85, Walkerton, died at 3:30 a.m. E.S.T. Sunday (Nov. 9, 2003) at Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Carlisle Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Barnes, of Faith City of God, officiating. Cremation will take place, with burial of ashes at a later date.
Mr. Riordan was born Dec. 12, 1917, in Union Hills, Ill., to Edward and Mary (Sutter) Riordan. On June 14, 1947, in Kankakee, Ill., he married Anita Marcotte, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Michael (Edris) Riordan, Ogden, Utah, David (Nancy) Riordan, Michigan City, and Daniel Riordan, South Bend; three daughters, Patricia Riordan McBride, San Diego, Calif., Virgina (Floyd) Williams, Rocky Mount, Va., and Barbara (Ron) Gillings, Bradley, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Two daughters, Carol Keller and Diane Riordan, preceded him in death.
Mr. Riordan had been an orderly at Manteno State Hospital for 34 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was a member of the VFW of Walkerton.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice
Carolyn Hurst
Carolyn K. Hurst, 80, LaPorte, died Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) at her home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Earl Road Christian Church, with the Rev. Kim Cole officiating. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Carlisle Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church.
Mrs. Hurst was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Chicago, to Edward and Etta L. (Krueger) Krause. On Dec. 31, 1941, in Michigan City, she married Charles R. Hurst. He preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Charles R. (Marla) Hurst, Pickerington, Ohio, and Edward R. Hurst, Calif.; one daughter, Susan (William) Crowl, LaPorte; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hurst was a realtor with Replogle Real Estate and was former owner and operator of Hurst Realty. She was a member of Earl Road Christian Church.
Memorials may be made to Earl Road Christian Church.
Robert Roblin
Robert Roblin, 79, Michigan City, died at 1:47 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 16, 2003) at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers.
A memorial service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Countryside Christian Church, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Cremation is planned. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2536 will perform military rites at the church after services Tuesday. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the church. Carlisle Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
He was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Rochester, N.Y., to Ivah P. and Gladys (Quine) Roblin. On Sept. 21, 1985, in Michigan City, he married Alta Colwell Killingbeck, who survives in Michigan City.
Survivors also include three daughters, Linda Roblin, Miami, Laurie Roblin, Aurora, Colo., and Heather O'Laughlin, Michigan City; two sons, Jay (Mary) Killingbeck, Dayton, Ohio, and Terry Killingbeck, LaPorte; four grandchildren, Sally, Derek, Chelsea and Skylar; and two great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Ivan.
Mr. Roblin was an owner and operator of Pave Rite Asphalt Co. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. He served in the Battle of Rhineland in Germany, where he received his Purple Heart Medal. He also served in France and Africa. After honorable discharge, he served in the Korean War. He was a member of Teamster Union Local 406, Elks B.P.O.E. 432, Moose 980, the DAV Danny Bruce Chapter of Michigan City and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2536. He was a proud, faithful member of the Sunday Morning Club. He enjoyed going on the annual family vacation to Florida, especially taking his grandchildren to Disney World. He also enjoyed retreating to the campground in DeMotte, Ind.
Harriet Pliske
Harriet R. Pliske, Michigan City, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) at Fountainview Terrace Nursing Home, LaPorte.
The funeral will be at noon Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. James McGrogan officiating. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Pliske was born in Michigan City to James and Lena (Heinz) Easterday. They preceded her in death. She married Francis J. Leggett. He preceded her on April 1, 1953. On July 1, 1959, she married Edwin M. Pliske. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith (Del Sr.) Sammelman, Michigan City, and Joan (Fred) Moore, Buchanan, Mich.; one son, James Leggett, Anderson, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Frank J. Leggett; and three brothers, James, Harold and Harley Easterday.
Mrs. Pliske was a sales lady at Carsten Brother in Michigan City from 1952 to 1967 and worked at Neumans Clothing Store in Marquette Mall from 1967 to 1977.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union Lodge 419.
Mrs. Pliske was a happy person who enjoyed each day and her family and friends.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Robert Zygmuntowski
Robert "Ziggy" Zygmuntowski, 68, Trail Creek, died at 10:10 a.m. Friday (Nov. 14, 2003) at his home in Trail Creek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of All Saints Church, with the Rev. Terrence Chase officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Root Funeral Home and from 9:45 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the church. A wake service will be conducted Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Zygmuntowski was born April 3, 1935, in Michigan City, to Edward E. and Jessie M. (Allen) Zygmuntowski. His parents preceded him in death.
On August 9, 1958, at St. Mary's Church in Michigan City, he married Patsy Grievish. She survives in Trail Creek.
Also surviving are one daughter, Tricia (David) Wroblewski, Michigan City; one son, Troy (Jodi) Zygmuntowski, LaPorte; and two grandchildren, Michael Zygmuntowski and Sarah Zygmuntowski, both of LaPorte.
Preceding him in death was one sister, Dorothy Zygmuntowski.
Mr. Zymuntowski retired after more than 40 years of service as a shipping and receiving foreman at Criterion Catalyst.
Mr. Zygmuntowski was a member of Queen of All Saints Church, Elks Lodge 432 and the St. Joseph Young Men's Society. He was a charter member of the Trail Creek Booster Club and was its first Street Commissioner, serving for more than 12 years.
Rosetta Newkirk
ROLLING PRAIRIE -- Rosetta B. Newkirk, 76, Rolling Prairie, died at midnight Saturday (Nov. 15, 2003) at LaPorte Hospital.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, with the Rev. David Tripp officiating. Burial is in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, with American Legion Post 434, Kingsford Heights, performing full military rites. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial service by American Legion Post and Auxiliary 434 is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Yale, Okla., to Ross Wells and Brucine Davis Wells Wright Rice. She was raised by her step-father, Raymond Wright. In 1944, she married Laurence Groves, who died in May 1948. On April 29, 1950, she married Jesse C. Newkirk, who died Sept. 4, 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur E. (Joyce) Newkirk Sr., Rolling Prairie, and Richard L. (Terrie) Newkirk, Three Oaks, Mich.; three daughters, Janet K. (Dave) Lantz, LaPorte, Charlene (Jon) Rush, Bradenton, Fla., and Celia (Scott) Herod, New Carlisle; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond D. Wright Jr.; two sisters, Wilma Imbodien and Barbara Jean Russell; and one great-grandson, Cody Mitchell.
Mrs. Newkirk worked at several LaPorte businesses, including Harvel and Austenal, and retired from LaPorte Transporte. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rolling Prairie. During World War II, she served in the Women's Army Corps. She was a member of American Legion Post 434 and its auxiliary, where she served in many offices. She was past president, vice president, sergeant of arms, chaplain and historian. She also was on numerous committees and chairmanships during the years and was a volunteer at LaPorte Hospital.
Memorial contributions may be made to LaPorte Cancer Association or LaPorte Hospice.
