The Columbia City native was survived by a son, M. Thomas of Ligonier; a daughter, Virginia Cymbalist of Sault Ste. Marie; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton J.; and an infant son. Services and burial are private at Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier. Memorials are to Ligonier Presbyterian Church or to the donor's choice.

Florence "Flo" Alverda Hale, 97, of Berne, a member of High Street United Methodist Church, Geneva, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Swiss Village Retirement Center.
The Geneva native was a clerk at the Filer Store and Kroger and Food Bank Groceries in Geneva. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are a son, William of Poway, Calif.; a sister, Helen Johnson of Decatur; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William S.; four brothers and a sister. Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Downing Funeral Home, Geneva, with calling 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery, Geneva. Memorials are to the church.

Lucille "Red" Ray Heintzelman, 89, of Albion died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Provena Sacred Heart Home, Avilla.
The Albion native worked at R&W Excavating and Central Noble Cafeteria. Surviving are daughters Inez Slentz of Fort Wayne and Patsy Gaff of Albion; a stepson, Roger; a stepdaughter, Sue Ellen Beers; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell R. Ray and her second husband, Lawrence. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brazzell Funeral Home, Albion, with calling from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. Hiram P. Fee Jr., 81, of Coldwater, Mich., died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.
The Auburn, Ind., native retired after 36 years from Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Power Plant as a superintendent. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 52. Surviving are his wife, Marian; a daughter, Carol Hageman of Coldwater; sons Lanny, Ronald and Rodger, all of Coldwater, and Gary of Seattle; sisters Harriet Hernandez of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Betty Warkoczeski of Sun Lake, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a stepbrother. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. William "Billy Boy" Lee Johnson Jr., 53, of Warsaw, a Protestant, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at home.
The Danville, Ill., native is survived by his mother, Joyce Johnson of Warsaw; sisters Fran Armbruster of Warsaw, and Pamela S. Rogers of Mancelona, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. The Latte, Ohio, native was a seamstress, and a waitress at Hobby House and L.S. Ayres Tea Room. Surviving are sons Terry L. of Fort Wayne, and Ron R. of Bloomington; a daughter, Kay E. Rauhe of Okemos, Mich.; brothers Harry and Kenneth Steffen, both of Bluffton; sisters Hilda Robinson of Lafayette, Mary Ann Kaehr of Bluffton, and Lucille Borror of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester; two brothers and a sister. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bluffton North Apostolic Christian Church, with calling one hour before services, and from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Auburn native retired in 1985 after 12 years as a cook at Betz Nursing Home. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and Pythian Sisters Lodge. Surviving are sons Mike of Hicksville, Ohio, Gary of Fishers, Phil of Bellevue, Neb., and Mark of Waterloo; a sister, Lois Cooper of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Surviving are daughters Sharon Wann of Hicksville and Cindy Fraley of Bucyrus; sons Bruce of Barking, Ark., Dennis of Antwerp, Charles of Hicksville and Andrew of Angola, Ind.; a brother, Harold of Antwerp; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The Decatur native and Adams County farmer retired in 1985 as president of Teeple Truck Lines. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus 864 and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, four brothers and eight sisters.
