The Fort Wayne native retired after 20 years at HWI of Fort Wayne. Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Zelt of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 800 Green St. New Haven, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at E. Harper& Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana 930 East, New Haven. Burial will be at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Louise Merz, 73, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital.
The Allen County native is survived by her husband, Ralph J.; daughters Sharon A. Merz of Fort Wayne, Connie L. Bleclic, and Cindy S. Baker of New Haven; sisters Marie Thornburg of South Whitley, and Marjorie Oberkiser of Port Huron, Mich.; a brother, Herbert Musser of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour before services. The Detroit native retired as associate professor of education at IPFW. Surviving are his wife, Dolores; sons John, Thomas and James Szymanski, all of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mary Robinson of Fort Wayne; a brother, Dr. Dennis of Benton Harbor, Mich.; a sister, Arlene McKechnie of Longwood, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Borremo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Road, with calling one hour before services. The Allen County native retired in 1983 after 35 years as an inspector at Dana Corp. He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran. Surviving are his wife, Alice E.; daughters Cheryl A. Henderson of Charlotte, N.C., and Sandra S. Click of Fort Wayne; a son, Keith D. of Fort Wayne; a sister, Eula M. Black of Fort Wayne; a brother, Raymond A. of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services are 3 p.m. Thursday at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8404 Covington Road, with calling one hour before services and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Rex D. Swing
Rex D. Swing, 82, of Roanoke, a licensed Little League umpire, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
"He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, basketball and bowling." The Jefferson Township, Whitley County native retired from Coil Engineering/Square D Corp. as a foreman after 38 years of service. He then worked for Inland Oil of Roanoke and Oak Lanes in Huntington. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a member of American Legion Post 160. He attended Pleasant Chapel United Methodist Church in Roanoke. Surviving are his wife, June; brothers Ed of Lebanon, Dick of South Whitley and Harry of Huntington; sisters Cynthia Young of Converse, Ohio, Geraldine Cobbs of Upland, Donnabelle Gillam and Aladean Weaver, both of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, with calling from 2 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fort Wayne. Memorials are to the church.

Richard Allen Woollweever, 55, of Angola, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at University Hospital, Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Duluth, Minn., native was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was a prison guard and food administrator at Leavenworth Prison in Kansas. Surviving are brothers Robert of Angola and Raymond; sisters Janet McGrane of Duluth, Minn., and JoAnne Stevens of Angola. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. There will be no services or calling. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Duluth, Minn.

Thelma L. Gibson Held, 94, of St. Petersburg, Fla., a retired seamstress, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at home.
"She was a champion shuffler and avid golfer." The Churubusco, Ind., native had worked at Fort Wayne Tailoring Co. and was a member of Lake Placid Tourist Club. Surviving are daughters Gaynell J. Stier of Fort Wayne, Arliss J. Wells of St. Petersburg and Guilia B. Longardner of Avilla; a son, Vincent of St. Petersburg; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edward Gibson and Ralph Held. Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at C.M. Surviving are his wife, Marietta; a stepdaughter, Jorama Bunsoy of Indianapolis; his mother, Virginia of Hartford City; a sister, Peggy Sharp of Hartford City; and a friend, Warren Mattson of Hartford City. "He enjoyed his Harley-Davidson, snowmobiling and fishing." The Elgin, Ohio, native was a member of Salem United Presbyterian Church, Venedocia. He was also a member of Masonic Mendon and Shane Lodge, Rockford, and Venedocia Lions Club. He worked at Clark Equipment in Lima for 17 years, Ohio Department of Transportation for 22 years and also refurbished Corvettes. Surviving are his fiancee, Debbie Fair of Middle Point; sons Kevin Fair, Scott Fair and Ryan Fair, all of Middle Point; sisters Jane Martin of Antwerp, Sue Mohr of Convoy and Edna Semer of Glenmore. Also surviving is Carol Place of Van Wert. He was preceded in death by a brother. Services are 11 a.m. today at Salem United Presbyterian Church, Venedocia, with calling one hour before services. Calling was Sunday at Harter& Son Funeral Home. Burial and military rites by Spencerville VFW will be at Wright Cemetery in Van Wert. Memorials are to the church, Gideons or Hospice.
