The Bluestone, Ky., native was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Bluffton. Surviving are sons Kenneth of Camano Island, Wash., Gary of McCordsville and Danny of Decatur; daughters Rosemary Secrest of Fort Myers, Fla., Gert Menter of Preble and Linda Taylor-Adamowicz of Fort Wayne; a brother, Jim Poston of Bluffton; 24 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy, and a sister. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt& Chaney Funeral Home, Bluffton, with calling two hours before services. Margaret L. "Peg" Lombard, 73, of Kendallville, a member of Faith United Methodist Church, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.
The Kendallville native worked at Kraft Foods in Kendallville as a lab technician for 39 years. Surviving are daughters Karen Hile of Kendallville and Carol Salzbrun of Ligonier; sons Kurt of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Cameron of Kendallville; three grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, a daughter, Carla Ann Lombard, a sister and two brothers. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home, Kendallville, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Josephine O. Becker, 80, of Wolcottville, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at LaGrange Community Hospital.
The Noble County native retired in 1984 from DuoTherm in LaGrange after 25 years of service. Surviving are sons Richard and Ronald, both of Kendallville, and Robert of Wolcottville; brothers Raymond Kline of Brimfield and Frank Kline of LaGrange; sisters Barbara Owsley of Wolcottville and Patricia Scofield of Howe; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B., her daughter, Janice, and three brothers. Mary O. Harman, 101, of Warsaw, a receptionist, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Miller's Merry Manor in Warsaw.
"She enjoyed living on a farm, and attributed her long life to staying busy." The Noble County native retired in 1971 from the office of Dr. Dale Stouder in Warsaw. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Warsaw and a member of the Pythian Sisters Temple No. 1. She loved flowers, embroidery, crocheting and gardening. Surviving are a son, Eugene L. Ringgenberg of Palmetto, Fla.; daughters Willodean Clift of Goshen and Phyllis Whitesell of Warsaw; a brother, Dale Hontz of Kimmel; a sister, Erma Stump of Ligonier; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands Roy Ringgenberg, Claude Sutherlin and Frank Harman. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with calling one hour before services. Kathryn G. Batt Herman, 89, of Edgerton, Ohio, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Parkview Nursing Center in Edgerton.
The Marysdale, Ohio, native was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Casimir; daughters Mary Kathryn Burns of Bryan, Barbara Thiel of Edgerton and Phyllis Arend and Elaine Mohley, both of Hicksville; sons Donald, Ambrose and Cletus, all of Edgerton, and Edward of Southern Pines, N.C.; 36 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; an six great-great-grandchildren. The Berne native loved playing pool and was a member of the Decatur American Legion. He retired in 1995 from Central Soya, Decatur. Surviving are his wife, Beverly A.; a daughter, Susan Heidenreich of Leo-Cedarville; a son, Randy of Berne; sisters Norma Poorman and Harriet Dustman, both of Berne; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Services were 10 a.m. today with calling one hour before services. Calling was Sunday at Downing Funeral Home, Geneva. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery, Berne. The Hastings native retired in 1981 from Coppus Inc., Nappanee, as a truck driver. He was a member of American Legion Post 154 and of VFW of Nappanee. Surviving are his wife, Vera J.; and a son; Stephen C. of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine, one daughter and three brothers. Burial with graveside military services by Post 154 are 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Leesburg Cemetery, with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Franz F. Wells
Franz F. Wells, 81, of Fremont, a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital.
"He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren." The Steuben County native retired in 1983 from Simpson Industries. He formerly worked in construction in Fort Wayne, and was involved in building Parkview Hospital and Memorial Coliseum. He also worked at Bledsoe's Beach at Lake James. He was a 53-year member of American Legion Post 423. Surviving are daughters Kay Renowden of Jupiter, Fla., and Jean Wells of Fremont; a son, Stephen of Fremont; sisters Wauneta Cooper and Violet Adams, both of Fremont, and Mary Cronkwright of Granada Hills, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Claramae, a daughter, Linda Wells, two sisters and two brothers. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, with calling from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial with military graveside services by Post 423 will be at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont. William "Bill" E. Bellamy
William "Bill" E. Bellamy, 76, of Butler, DeKalb County assessor for eight years, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler.
The Maysville, Ky., native worked as sales manager for Rohm Chevrolet for 38 years and Ben Davis Chevrolet for six years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Auburn Alliance Church and a member and former commander of American Legion Post 97. He was a U.S. Army World War II and Korean War veteran. Surviving are his wife, Nondas M.; a daughter, Candace Awuah-Korang of Auburn; brothers Duard of Butler and Gene of Elkhart; and a sister, Gail Hay of Auburn. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Auburn Alliance Church, with calling from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo. Gwendolyn J. "Pieper" Saalfrank, 82, of Fort Wayne, a member of the Home Economics Club of Allen County, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Lutheran Hospital.
The Edgerton native retired in 1985 from Zion Lutheran School as an instructional aide after 11 years of service. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Seniors Society, Mary Circle and Singles Group. Surviving are sons Jerry and Joseph Pieper, both of Fort Wayne; daughters Judi Krider of Fort Wayne and Janet Leatherman of Avilla; brothers Chester and Keith Everson, both of Fort Wayne and Kimsey Everson of Rome City; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Pieper, her second husband, Kenneth Saalfrank, a son, Jeffrey, five brothers and a sister. Robert "Bob" L. Fielder, 86, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Winchester, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at Parkview Hospital.
The Randolph County native retired from Anchor Hocking Glass in Winchester after 43 years of service. He was a member of Elks Lodge in Union City. He was a member of Presbyterian Church in Winchester. Surviving are a daughter, Sue Graber of Fort Wayne; a stepdaughter, Martha Sumwalt of San Jose, Calif.; a stepson, Charles Roskovz of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and six grandchildren. The Marion, Ala., native retired from Parkview Hospital in housekeeping and was a Mason. He was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, DeMarcus of St. Paul, Minn.; stepsons Andre Craig, Ernest Craig, Milton, Alan and Chris White, all of Fort Wayne, James Craig of North Carolina, Lee Griffin of Compton, Calif., and Johnnie Jackson of Shaw, Miss.; a daughter, Alisha of Fort Wayne; a foster daughter, Beatrice Merriweather of Fort Wayne; stepdaughters Chandra White, Dorothy Craig and Shelly Okoca, all of Fort Wayne; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and nine sisters. "She was the loving grandmother of R. Randall Barrett." The Linden, Tenn., native was a homemaker and former ward clerk at South Bend Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Surviving are a daughter, Pamela S. Barrett of Fort Wayne; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth. Col. William Carl Bloch, 87, of Fort Wayne, a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at St. Joseph Medical Center. The Marinette, Wis., native retired from General Electric in 1975 after 29 years as an electrical engineer. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves and was a member of Waynedale Lions Club and the Indiana Academy of Science. Malicoat of Marinette, Wis.; brothers Gustave M. of Marinette, Wis., and Donald J. of Peshtigo, Wis.; sisters Charlotte M. Urbaniak and Caroline E.
