Robert W. Hazelett, 62, of Fort Wayne, a retired firefighter with the city of Fort Wayne, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.
"He enjoyed antique cars and shows." The Fort Wayne native retired in 1996 after 28 years of service, had worked at Telecomet Electronics for seven years and at Waggoner Oil for five years. He was a member of the Historic Automobile Club of Fort Wayne, NATMUS of Auburn and Fort Wayne Fire Department 20-Year Club. Surviving are daughters Dawn Hall-Bialorucki of Swanton, Ohio, and Kellie Dashner of Holland, Ohio; a son, Kenneth R. of Orlando, Fla.; his mother, Winifred Schaefer of Payne, Ohio; a brother, Thomas O. of Fort Wayne; and six grandchildren. His wife, Rosemary T., preceded him in death on March 2. Memorial services for both Robert W. and Rosemary T. are 2 p.m. Sunday at Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum, 226 W. Washington Blvd., with calling two hours before services. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery, New Haven. Memorials are to Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.

Judy K. Griffin, 55, of Fort Wayne, a retired supervisor, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Miller's Merry Manor.
The Fort Wayne native retired in 1999 from Reliable Cleaning Service. Surviving are sons Billy J. Griffin and Michael Hall, both of Fort Wayne; her mother, Phyllis Hall of Fort Wayne; brothers Steven, Tommy and Ronny Hall, all of Fort Wayne, and Jimmy Hall of Lowell; and a sister, Kathy Bryant of Corbin, Ky. Her husband, Willy A., preceded her in death. Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Parkview Hospital Chapel, 2200 Randallia Drive. Memorials are to Parkview Hospice.

Geneva Wire, 86, of North Manchester, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Rolling Meadows Health Care Center, LaFountaine.
The Wabash County native worked at Wabash County Hospital as a nurse's aide. Surviving are a son, Willard L. Collins, Jr. of Wabash; a brother Jack L. Miller of Wabash; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Services are 6 p.m. Wednesday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel, with calling two hours before services. Burial will be at Mount Etna Cemetery. Wiley J. Phillips, 86, of Auburn, a member of Cedar Lake Church of Christ, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at home.
Th Billings, Mont., native owned Phillips Buildings since 1970 and had been a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 614. Surviving are his wife, Lurah J.; daughters Nancy P. Kirchner of Presque Isle, Mich., and Linda P. Colbart of Auburn; stepsons Ronald C. DeVoe of Big Bear City, Calif., and Phillip W. DeVoe of Melbourne, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Kathy D. Crooks of Lansing, Mich.; a brother, Ralph of Waterloo; four grandsons; four stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Dixie Phillips; two sisters; and a brother. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at McComb, Dilgard& Cline Funeral Home, Auburn, with calling from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A Masonic service will follow calling at the funeral home. Rex E. Keezer, 69, of Defiance, Ohio, a self-employed handyman, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Hawthorn Court Nursing Home, Paulding, Ohio.
The Paulding County native retired in 1991. Walter M. Gallup, 87, of Kendallville, a member of First Baptist Church, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Shepherd of the Hill, Kendallville.
The Wolcottville native was a longtime farmer who taught Sunday school and enjoyed singing. Surviving are his wife, Josephine; daughters Barbara Chandler of Fort Wayne and Deborah Kerr of Indianapolis; sons James of Wolcottville and Phillip of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn, and two brothers. Frank Howard Arven, 84, of Marion, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at VA Northern Indiana Healthcare, Marion.
"He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing." The Lafontaine native was a member of American Legion and Moose Lodge. He was a mechanic for 40 years before retiring. Surviving are his sons Jim of Van Buren and Lee of Marion; daughters Janet Marshall and Janice Henchon, both of Marion, Marsha Snell of North Manchester, Cherie May of Akron and Jolene Hewitt of Andrews; sisters Wilma Guenin of Lafontaine and Helen Wycoff of Wabash; his special friend, Tracy Charette of Gas City; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lafontaine IOOF Cemetery. There is no calling. Memorials are to the Grant County Cancer Society.

James R. Hurst, 74, of Kendallville, a member of True Church of God in Jesus' Name in Lisbon, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at VA Hospital, Fort Wayne.
"He played the steel guitar at church, was an artist and loved gardening." The Yeager, Ky., native worked at Fort Wayne Foundry before retiring in 1990. Surviving are his wife, Gladys; sons Jim of South Milford and Larry of Kendallville; daughters Linda Taylor, Sherry Paulus and Rhonda Lange, all of Kendallville, Wanda Watts of Avilla and Sandie Benedict of Huntertown; a brother, Chester Hurst of Bartley, W. Va.; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister. C. Wendell Johnson, 84, of Mendon, Ohio, a farmer, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.
The Muncie native taught for 34 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of Mendon First Church of God. Surviving are his wife, Annette; sons Jerry of Lima, Rick of Mendon, and Tom of Celina, Ohio; daughters Diana Griggs of St. Louis and Patricia Shindollar of Troy; brothers Rex of Mendon, Preston of Poneto, Jay and Ross, both of Geneva, and Leon of Bluffton; sisters Lucille Elam of Celina, Ina Mote of Ludlow Falls, Gaye Turner of Huntington Beach, Calif, Jean Oxender of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Patty Adams of Florida; and nine grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Wilson Freight in 1980. Surviving are his wife, Carol; daughters Elizabeth, Carol Ann, Tina, Normie and Kathy; sons John Keith, Tim, Jim and Don; a brother, Sam; a sister, Joyce Blankenship; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.O. McComb& Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. He was a former member and captain of Metz Volunteer Fire Department and had been affiliated with Angola Motor Speedway for 27 years. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; sons Michael of Hamilton, Jeffery of Angola and Joseph of Luck, Wis.; a stepson, Dennis Beattie of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepdaugters Linda Beattie of Hamilton and Robin Taylor of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sisters; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
