BERNADETTE KLINGLE
Bernadette E. Klingle, 85, formerly of 715 N.W. 11th Street, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hillside Manor Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 26, 1918, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of James A. and Anna C. (Brewer) Bradley.
A graduate of Montgomery High School, she was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Her family was her life. She was especially proud of her triplet granddaughters, twin great-granddaughters and two grandsons in the military.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas R. Klingle of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Frank L. Klingle of Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Eddie (Helen) Gibson of Washington, Mrs. Bernard (Patricia) Simmons, Jr. of Jasper, and Mrs. J. Scott (Mary Kay) Riester of Warrenton, Va.; six brothers, Ralph D. Bradley and John A. Bradley, both of Indianapolis; Leonard A. Bradley, Donald V. Bradley, H. Richard Bradley, and Gerald S. Bradley, all of Washington; four sisters, Anna M. Gartner of Princeton, Catherine A. Paolucci of Ashburn, Va., Theresa B. Case of Flat Rock, Ill., and Helen L. Wedge of Washington; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Joseph L. Klingle, whom she married Nov. 14, 1940, died Oct. 28, 1984. One great-grandson; two brothers, James A. and David Bradley; and one sister, Cecelia Bradley, are also deceased.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church, with Fr. David Martin as the celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with a wake service at 4:30 p.m., at Ed Lee Mortuary.
Preferred memorials are to the Arthritis Foundation.

JOHN PHINNEY
ALFORDSVILLE - John C. Phinney, 74, formerly of Rockland, Mass., died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
Born Dec. 5, 1929, in Weymoth, Mass., he was the son of Chalmers and Rita (Wheaton) Phinney.
A Korean War veteran, he was a member of Alfordsville United Methodist Church. He was a retired factory worker and a member of the Wampatuch Masonic Lodge in Hanson, Mass.
He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Nowlan of Washington, Debbie Cole of Alfordsville, and Jean Wuertz of Shoals; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
His wife, Betsy Elizabeth (Shepherd) Phinney, whom he married June 29, 1952, died October 1994. One brother, Donald Phinney; two sisters, Josephine Brown and Phylis Magoun; and one infant grandson, Daniel Wuertz, are also deceased.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Alfordsville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Alfordsville Community Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the church. Brocksmith Funeral Home in Loogootee is in charge of arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer Society.

OTWELL - Stephen M. Johnson, 28, died from injuries sustained from a fire at his home Thursday.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Burial will follow in the Iva Cemetery near Otwell.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ruth Taylor
BLOOMINGTON - Ruth Ellen Taylor, 87, died Saturday at her residence.
Born Feb. 20, 1917, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Dean Montgomery and Della Jane (Walters) Brown.
She was a homemaker and auxilliary member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and Moose. She was a member of and Past Worthy Matron of the Oaklandon Chapter #159 of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies were crafts, painting and reading.
Survivors include her son, William "Bill" Taylor and wife Belen and daughter Joyce Myers of Bloomington; six grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; half brother William Franklin Brown and several neices and nephews.
She was preceded by her father, her stepfather William "Buck" Brown, her mother, her husband Earl O. Taylor, grandson John David Myers, sister Zennith Marie Cline, twin sister Ruby Helen Bough and half brother Clifford E. Montgomery.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home in Odon.
Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and one hour before service Tuesday.

Betty Jean Carr Craney
CANNELBURG - Betty Jean Carr Craney, 79, died at 2:50 a.m. Monday at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
Born May 17, 1925, in Somerset, Ky., she was the daughter of John Goodwin and Jean Elizabeth (Elliott) Carr.
A member of All Saints Catholic Church in Cannelburg, she was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Barr-Reeve school system for 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, Glen Charles "Steve" Craney, Sr., whom she married July 28, 1951; three sons, Glen C. Craney, Jr. of Malibu, Calif., George Craney of Loogootee, and James Craney of Bloomington; one daugthter, Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Muessel of Madison; one sister, Mary Jo Proud of Louisville, Ky.; and three grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by one brother, William Carr.
Private family services will be held today at Brocksmith Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery. There will be no visitation.
Preferred memorials are to Feed My Sheep Food Bank or charity of choice.

JASPER - Leo G. Kieffner, 81, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Northwood Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasper.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.

MICHAEL CRAIG
NEEDMORE - Michael Don Craig, 56, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at his residence following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born March 29, 1948, in Needmore, he was the son of Donald Keith and Mary Esther (Gyger) Craig. He married Martha Jeanne Holtsclaw on Nov. 26, 1966 at the Avoca Baptist Church and she survives. He retired on June 3, 2003 from NSWC Crane as the Ammunition Logistics Support Branch Manager after 37 years of service. He also had partnership in Triple C Farm with his father for 29 years. He taught Sunday School for 37 years and served as deacon for 30 years at both Gulletts Creek and Avoca Baptist Churches. He was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church.
Suviving with his wife, Martha Jeanne, are his parents; one daughter, Sherry Jean Scherschel and her husband, Eric of Needmore; two sons, Kevin Earl Craig and his wife, Heather of Fayetteville and Jason Lee Craig and his wife, Jessica of Springville; four grandsons, Travin and Wade Craig, Garrett and Gavin Scherschel; two granddaughters, Martha Craig and Michaella Scherschel, one brother, Rev. Ron Craig and his wife, Leesa; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Avoca Baptist Church, with Rev. Kyle Witmer and Rev. Robert Kirkman officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Avoca Baptist Church Family Life Center and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday at the church.
The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Avoca Baptist Church Building Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day and Carter Mortuary, Bedford.

WINSLOW - Irene J. Powell, 89, died Monday at Memorial Hospital, Jasper.
Born Feb. 10, 1915, in Bridgeport, Ill., she was the daughter of Leon G. and Della (Peterson) Stearns.
She was a member of Mt. Olive General Baptist Church at Cato, charter member of Cato Club, and a 4-H leader. She worked at Memorial Hospital for 20 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Dillon of Otwell; two sons, Glendel "Buck" Ashby of Winslow and Loren Ashby of Washington; eight grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two husbands, Radis Ashby and Billy Joe Powell; two daughters, Gloria Lee Ashby and Deloris Benjamin; and three brothers, Homer, Chester and Leland Stearns.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Curtis Funeral Home in Winslow, with Rev. Dan Payne officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

BLOOMINGTON - "Pete" Lawrence Marion White, 75, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday at his residence.
Born May 27, 1929, in Greene County, he was the son of Hugh Herbert and Helen (Dowden) White.
A veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force, he was a retired manager at RCA. He was a member of Clear Creek Christian Church and the American Legion, both in Bloomington.
He is survived by his wife, Sara (Cunningham) White; daughter Tracy and husband Tracy Allen Shepherd of Nashville; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Justin and Jacob Shepherd, all of Nashville. He is also survived by daughter Julie Hinkle of Washington; grandson Kevin White; son Allan "Cork" White of Elnora; grandson Harold White; and several great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Hugh "Mick" White and William White, are deceased.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jenkins Funeral Home, Bloomfield, with Glenn Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Bloomfield.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

LAFAYETTE - Eric Scott Gilley, 25, died Nov. 25 at 10:03 a.m. in Lafayette.
He was born April 4, 1979, in Daviess County. He was a member of Elmwood Church of Christ in Lafayette. He was a graduate of Harrison High School in Lafayette. He returned to Indiana on Oct. 22 after serving three years in the U.S. Army in Germany.
Survivors are wife Jamie and son Cooper, at home; father and stepmother Glen and Cheryl Gilley of Washington; mother Andrea Browell of Lafayette; sisters Tara Eby of San Diego, Calif., and Miranda Parson of Lafayette; brothers Zane Gilley of Ladoga, Berin Gilley of Bicknell and Shawn Gilley of Washington; and grandmothers LeNore Gilley of Washington and Eloise Schenk of Peru.
Arrangements are at Sollar-Baker Chapel. Viewing will be today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. Military honors will be given at West Point Cemetery in West Point, Ind.

LOOGOOTEE - Mary A. "Mamie" Greene, 88, died at 5:55 a.m. Thursday at Martin County Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Nov. 9, 1916, in Loogootee, she was the daughter of Thomas Lee and Geneva (Gootee) Summers.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by three sons, Michael Greene of Ozark, Ala., David Greene of Marysville, Penn., and Dennis Greene of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; three daughters, Judy Yarnell and Mary Lou Harrawood, both of Loogootee, and Beth Sharer of Cumming, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Dale F. Greene, whom she married Dec. 26, 1936, died July 22, 1986. Two brothers, Harry and Ernie Summers, and one grandson, Jeffry Greene, are also deceased.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery.

SHEILA ANN (GATES) MARAMONTE
DENVER, Colo. - Sheila Ann (Gates) Maramonte, 50, formerly of Loogootee, died Dec. 15, in Denver, Colo., after a prolonged illness.
She was born Nov. 18, 1954, to Isabelle (Matthews) and the late William D. Gates.
She attended St. Peter's Elementary, graduated from Barr-Reeve High School in 1973 and attended Vincennes University.
She worked with the developmentally disabled and was a certified dialysis technician. At the time of her death, Ms. Maramonte was employed as a health unit coordinator in the trauma center at Denver General Hospital.
Funeral services were held at Aspen Memorial Chapel followed by burial at Mt. Olivett Cemetery in Golden, Colo. Fr. Peter Garcia officiated at the funeral mass and burial services.
Ms. Maramonte is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jon Paul and Lacey Davis, and her daughter, Kara Jo Maramonte, all of Denver, Colo. Also surviving are her mother, Isabelle Gates, and her stepfather, Paul Bradley, both of Logootee; and sisters, Rachel Byrd and Jaynie Gates Edwards of Charleston, W. Va., Becky Logan and Loretta Day of Vincennes, Vicki Olson of Louisville, Ky., and Susan Zinkan of Crofton, Md. An infant brother, William Joseph, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. John's Church in Loogootee.

MERLIN "MERKY" LAGLE
WHEATLAND - Merlin Andrew "Merky" Lagle, 82, died at 1:18 a.m. Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Born Sept. 22, 1922, in Wheatland, he was the son of Minnie Elizabeth (Ingram) and Alonzo Lagle Sr.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 395th Infantry, 99th Division Company M. He fought in the European Theatre and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He worked for the Naval Depot for five years and the Knox County Co-op for 31 1/2 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Wheatland United Methodist Church and the VFW Post 1157 in Vincennes.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Williams) Lagle, whom he married June 5, 1949; one daughter and son-in-law, Diana Vee and Kelly Updike of Vincennes; and grandchildren, Nick and Natalie Updike of Vincennes. Three sisters and five brothers are deceased.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Goodwin Funeral Home, Vincennes, with Rev. Bob Granger officiating. Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery.Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Preferred memorials are to Wheatland United Methodist Church.
