ELKHART -- Friends and family of Mildred L. Sackett may call for two hours prior to the 2 p.m. Monday service at St. John's Episcopal Church, 226 W. Lexington Ave., Elkhart. The Rev. Mildred L. Sackett, 81, of 2818 E. Jackson Blvd., died at 7:09 a.m. Thursday (April 29, 2004) in her home.
She was born June 8, 1922, in Goshen, the daughter of Hugh P. and Anna R. (Violette) Castetter. She married Hinman "Tip" Sackett on Nov. 11, 1944, in Lubbock, Texas; he died on July 17, 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Margery E. (Jack) Paulen and Dr. Leslie A. Sackett, both of Elkhart; a son, Mark H. (Michele) Sackett of Basalt, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
A 1940 graduate of Elkhart High School, Mrs. Sackett obtained degrees from Stephens College and University of Chicago. She was secretary-treasurer of Elkhart Electric Supply until her retirement in 1984.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church's Altar Guild, Elcona Country Club, Tri Kappa, and Humane Society of Elkhart County board for more than 30 years. As an Elkhart School Board member, she was instrumental in starting the PEP program. She volunteered for ADEC, Meals on Wheels and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

ELKHART -- Josephine Ann Peffley, 73, of 1418 Dotson St., died of cancer at 6:03 a.m. Friday (April 30, 2004) in Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Sturgis Mich., to Albert L. and Eva M. (Wogoman) Baze. On Oct. 5, 1968, she married Larry E. Peffley in Elkhart.
He survives along with her caregiver and niece, Stacy (Kevin) Kelly of Elkhart, and a sister, Katherine Baze of Michigan.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Baze and Floyd Baze.
