GOSHEN -- William Hoogenboom, 96, of 1801 Greencroft Blvd., died at 6:10 a.m. Friday (June 18, 2004) at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen.
He was born Nov. 28, 1907, in Goshen, to John and Jans "Jennie" (Solleveld) Hoogenboom. He married Dora V. VanderWey on April 20, 1932, in Goshen. She died May 14, 1997.
He is survived by one daughter, Elinor Postma of Grand Rapids, Mich.; one son, Terry F. Hoogenboom of Goshen; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gertrude Mitterling of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Nellie Yoder of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Cora Fry; three brothers, Henry, Frank and Richard Hoogenboom; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 South Main St., Goshen, where the funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Robert Jipping, retired pastor of Christian Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.
Mr. Hoogenboom was a lifetime Goshen resident. He was a school bus driver for the Goshen school system for 28 years, working primarily for Model School. He operated Hoogenboom Fruit Market at Third Street and Lincoln Avenue for many years, and he also had worked at Bendix Corp. in South Bend for many years. He was a member of Christian Reformed Church of Goshen.

GOSHEN -- Naomi D. Miller, 50, of 64071 C.R. 35, died at 12:20 p.m. Friday (June 18, 2004) at Goshen General Hospital after a one-year illness.
She was born Sept. 29, 1953, in Dover, Del., to Dan A. and Malinda A. (Miller) Yoder. She married Yost Miller on Nov. 11, 1971.
He survives with two daughters, Dee R. (Jay) Hochstetler of Millersburg and Crystal (Ryan) Miller of Middlebury; two sons, Merlin (Lila) and Kevin (Treva), both of Goshen; 12 grandchildren; her father of Crab Orchard, Ky.; five sisters, Mattie (John) Miller of Dover, Mary (Andy) Miller of Peebles, Ohio, and Lena (David) Troyer, Melinda (Henry) Miller and Sadie (Allen) Byler, all of Crab Orchard; and three brothers, Ammon (Ida Mae) Yoder of Gradyville, Ky., Calvin (Rosa) Yoder of Dover and John (Jeannie) Yoder of Reading, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a sister, Barbara Beachy.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fair Haven Mennonite Church, 13513 S.R. 4, Goshen, where the 10 a.m. Monday service will be officiated by Bishop Wilbur L. Yoder, the Rev. Dan B. Miller and the Rev. Harvey J. A. Miller. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller lived for 22 years in the Goshen area, where she was secretary for Hoosier Interior Door and a housekeeper for Cancer Care Home.
She was a member of Fair Haven Mennonite Church.
Harold Pifer

ELKHART -- Harold Pifer, 58, of 56645 C.R. 3, died at 1:13 a.m. Tuesday (June 15, 2004) in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Jan. 18, 1946, to Clayton and Beulah Mae (Bisett) Pifer in Battle Creek, Mich.
He is survived by five daughters, Rosalind Lemons of Middlesboro, Ky., Cassey and Alice Pifer, both of Elkhart, Jennifer Mayes of Texas and Stephanie Mayes of Los Angeles; five grandsons; six granddaughters; a brother, Donnie Pifer of Battle Creek; and three sisters, Barbara Hunsberger of Baldwin, Mich., Mary Vaden of Battle Creek and Judy Johnson of Marion.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Pifer Jr.
Funeral services were Friday, with burial in Rice Cemetery. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pifer was employed in production in the recreational vehicle industry. He was a member of Eagles Lodge F.O.E. 395.

Donald Tyson

GOSHEN -- Donald O. Tyson, 71, of 2402 Revere Drive, died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday (June 17, 2004) at Goshen General Hospital, from respiratory failure.
He was born May 29, 1933, in Jackson, Minn., to Oscar R. and Harriet E. (Freer) Tyson. He married Martha Miller on June 1, 1957, at Goshen City Church of the Brethren. She died March 27, 1997. He married Virginia "Ginny" Smith on Feb. 14, 1998, in Goshen.
She survives, along with one daughter, Lisa J. (Bill) Chaney of Goshen; a stepdaughter, Natalie A. (Lon) Mast of South Bend; a stepson, Kirk A. (Ann) Lehman of Goshen; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Emily J. (Lee) Stiver of Goshen, Bonnie M. (Roy) Stinson of Crescent, Ore., and Marlene K. (Carl) Phenis and Marjorie (Bruce) Rider, both of Goshen; and four brothers, Roger D. Tyson of Ocampo, Calif., and Robert J. (Janet) Tyson, Richard A. (Jan) Tyson and Roy (Mary) Tyson, all of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, James D., Arthur W. and Terry L. Tyson.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen. The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Chaplain B.G. Hoogenboom and the Rev. John Tomlonson will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen, with full military honors by members of the VFW, DAV and American Legion of Goshen.
Mr. Tyson graduated from Goshen High School in 1953. He retired from Johnson Controls, where he was a tool and die specialist. He was a member of VFW Post 985, where he served as quartermaster for 22 years and was a life member; DAV 15, American Legion Post 30, and Goshen Moose Lodge. He was a trustee for Penn Credit Union for many years, and a past president of the EMT at Jefferson Fire Department. He served in the Army Signal Corps in Korea in 1953-1954.

LAKEVILLE -- Rodney G. Withey, 51, of Tyler Road, died Thursday (June 17, 2004) in his home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1952, to Harold and Joan (Pittman) Withey in Bremen. He married Sherry Filley on Aug. 5, 1972, in South Bend.
She survives, along with a daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Mann of Bremen; three sons, Brett Withey of San Diego, Aaron (Melissa) Withey of Shreveport, La., and Benjamin Withey of LaPaz; three grandchildren; and a brother, Dennis (Velma) Withey, Plymouth.

Mr. Withey lived in the area his whole life. He worked for the past nine years at Utilimaster in Wakarusa. He was a member of the Cornerstone Community Fellowship Church. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, motorcycling, cooking and yard work with his John Deere.

Marie Berkey

NAPPANEE -- Marie S. Berkey, 93, of 12899 N. 600 W., died at 4:10 p.m. Thursday (June 17, 2004) in St. Joseph Medical Center in South Bend.
She was born Sept. 8, 1910, in Tippecanoe. She married Glen Frenger, who died May 10, 1968. She then married Willis Berkey.
He survives, along with three stepsons, Steven Berkey of Elkhart, Royce Berkey of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Kurt (Tricia) Brandon of Warsaw; one stepdaughter, Debbie Shoemaker of Globe, Ariz.; eight stepgrandchildren; and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons.

Mrs. Berkey retired from Bremen Castings after 16 years. She was a life member and past president of Bremen VFW Post 8972 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her parents, Tom and Amy (Scott) Cox of Goshen; a sister, Sydney R. Cox; grandparents, Larry R. and Karen Scott of Anderson and Ron and Linda Cox of Fort Wayne; and a great-grandmother, Helen Mettert of Fort Wayne.

She was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Huntington, to Harley and Alta (Line) Davis.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Kenneth) Jones of Topeka and Susan Koelling of Pittsburg, Calif.; two brothers, Herbert C. Davis of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Russell Davis of Oregon; one sister, Ruth Wood of Southport, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a companion, J.R. Wegener of LaGrange.
She was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Joe Linton, and one brother, Jim Davis.

Ms. Crider lived in the community since the 1950s. She retired from Essex Wire Corp.

ELKHART -- D. Glenn Gilbert, 92, of Hubbard Hill Estates and formerly of Eaton, Ohio, died June 11, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 24, 1911, in New Weston, Ohio, to John W. and Ida M. (Oettinger) Gilbert. He married Pauline L. Trace, who preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Gilbert is survived by a son, Wayne A. (Roseann) of Madison; a daughter, Carol Ann (Ronald P.) Miller of Elkhart; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Naomi H. Moomaw of Miamisburg, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Ernest, Andrew, Wesley L., Odis and John Gilbert; and two sisters, Sarah Sneary and Ruth McHaffie.
Services took place Wednesday at Barnes Funeral Home, 220 East Main St., Eaton. The Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiated and intermenty was in Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Mr. Gilbert was a 1930 Ansonia High School graduate and earned his bachelor's degree from Cedarville (Ohio) College. He was a teacher at Staeker, Lightsville, Willowdale, Fort Jefferson and Happy Corner schools in Mercer and Darke counties in Ohio. He was a timekeeper at Mersman's factory in Celina, Ohio, and for 29 years at Frigidaire in Dayton, Ohio. He was a member of Ansonia Lodge in Versailles and Fort Recovery, Masonic FAM and AASR Lodges, Eastern Star, First Presbyterian Church in Eaton and Ohio Teachers Association.

KOKOMO -- Barbara J. Hochstedler, 93, of 5757 N. 600 E., died at 12:20 p.m. Friday (June 18, 2004) at St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born May 31, 1911, in LaGrange County to Jacob J.C. and Ada (Miller) Miller. She married Jacob J. Hochstedler on Oct. 14, 1937.
He survives with four sons, Lloyd (Katie) and Walter (Martha), both of Middlebury, and Albert (Ruby) and Olen (Loretta), both of Kokomo; two daughters, Ada (John) Yoder of Middlebury and Erma (David A.) Miller of Sarasota, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester (Mary) Miller of Howe and Chris (Alice) Miller of Bristol; and two sisters, Nancy (Mel) Lambright of Middlebury and Alice Hochstetler of Ligonier.
Mrs. Hochstedler was preceded in death by a daughter, Mattie Miller; three brothers, Oba, Clarence C.J. and Olen Miller; and two sisters, Soloma and Mattie Miller.
