M. June Myers
ELKHART -- M. June Myers, 73, of 54112 Northwood Drive, died at Elkhart General Hospital at 1:45 a.m. Thursday (July 5, 2001).
She was born Oct. 28, 1927, to Arthur K. and Agnes (Poland) Brown in Canton, Ill., and married George W. Myers in Elkhart on June 28, 1947. He died Nov. 24, 1978.
Mrs. Myers is survived by two sons, Thomas A. (Jeannie) and James A., both of Bristol; a daughter, Mrs. Tad (Patricia A.) Rheinheimer of Elkhart; four grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur (Barbara) Brown of Elkhart. One daughter, Nancy; a son, William A.; and two brothers, George and Robert Brown, are deceased.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before the service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, all at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Ryan with St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church will officiate and burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
A vigil service will be at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Mrs. Myers quit high school during World War II, but returned much later and graduated in 1992 from Bloomington South High School. She retired in 1992 as head cook for the Elkhart Child Development Center and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Elkhart Art league. She enjoyed painting, gardening and genealogy.
Memorials may be given to the National Lou Gehrig’s Disease Foundation.
Maxine H. Maier
ELKHART -- Maxine H. Maier, 80, of 58856 Crestview Drive, died at 6:23 p.m. Saturday (June 30, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born on May 19, 1921, in Millersburg to Edward and Bessie (Peoples) Elick. She married Robert K. Maier on Nov. 14, 1937, in Elkhart.
He survives with two sons, Larry Dean (Theresa) Maier of Elkhart and Robert K. (Michele) Maier Jr. of Ocala, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Judith) Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Brent (Melody Sue) Robertson of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Treva Evans, and one grandson.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Mark A. Kloess of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer will officiate. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
Alice M. Allen
BRISTOL -- Alice M. Allen, 74, of 409 Depot St., died at 5:26 p.m. Thursday (June 28, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born on March 27, 1927, to Howard and Linnie (Treece) Allman in Howe, Ind. She married Max L. Allen on Feb. 27, 1945, in Elkhart, and he died Dec. 31, 1997.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Debra) Tackitt of Bristol, and three grandchildren. Four brothers preceded her in death.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Homes is handling the arrangements. Cremation will take place.
Mrs. Allen was a homemaker.
Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
Edward Brandt
ELKHART -- Edward Brandt, 96, of 3109 E. Bristol St., died Wednesday (June 27, 2001) at Eastlake Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on April 26, 1905, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Marcus and Bessie Brandt. He married Eleanor Goodman on April 21, 1929, in Brooklyn. She preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1988.
Mr. Brandt is survived by one daughter, Beverly (Dr. Phillip) Zeitler of Elkhart; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were one daughter, Cathy Brandt Fedder in 1964; three brothers; and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at New Montefiore Cemetery in Pinelawn, N.Y. Local arrangements are being handled by the Elkhart Chapel of the Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home.
Mr. Brandt owned a dress manufacturer in Manhattan and a luncheonette and candy store in Long Island.
Memorials may be given to Lighthouse Hospice of South Bend.
Chantell R. Levitz
BRISTOL -- Chantell Rana Levitz, 23, of 55243 C.R. 14, died at 1:42 p.m. Monday (June 18, 2001) in the emergency room at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne after being injured in a traffic accident earlier that day.
Miss Levitz, the daughter of Roger D. Sr. and Diana M. (Wiederman) Levitz of Bristol, was born in Elkhart on Oct. 2, 1977, and attended Northridge High School.
She also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Gary (Melissa) Price of Goshen and Mrs. David (Ericka) Schieber of Elkhart; a brother, Roger D. Jr. of Bristol; and grandparents, Helen Levitz and Denny and Velma Laughman, all of Elkhart, and Harold and Alice Wiederman of Goshen.
Her infant son, Coty, also died Monday minutes after his mother from injuries suffered in the same accident.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and a half-hour before the service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jefferson Brethren Church in Goshen. The Rev. Tim DeLaughter will officiate and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
Miss Levitz enjoyed traveling, boating, hunting and fishing and was an avid race fan. She often attended races at the Osceola Dragway, where she also competed last year.
Coty Austin Levitz
BRISTOL -- Coty Austin Levitz, infant son of Chantell R. Levitz, died at 1:53 p.m. Monday (June 18, 2001) in the emergency room at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne just 13 minutes after his birth.
Coty is survived by his grandparents, Roger and Diana Levitz of Bristol; and great-grandparents, Helen Levitz and Denny and Velma Laughman, all of Elkhart, and Harold and Alice Wiederman of Goshen.
His mother, Chantell, also died Monday just minutes before him from injuries from a traffic accident.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and a half-hour before the service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jefferson Brethren Church in Goshen. The Rev. Tim DeLaughter will officiate and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Jefferson Brethren Church.
Lester S. (Bill) Wagner
ELKHART -- Friends of Lester S. "Bill" Wagner, 90, of 28070 C.R. 24, may call for two hours prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday at the Elkhart chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. The Rev. Larry Kurtz of Faith United Methodist Church will officiate. A committal service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brighton (Ind.) Cemetery.
Mr. Wagner died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday (June 16, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.
Mr. Wagner is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Linda) Kiel of Elkhart; one stepdaughter, Uree M. Kincaid of Pittsboro; one stepson, Burtis L. Dickman of Auburn; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren. Two daughters, Jo Ellen A. Wagner and Sandra J. Farrell, three brothers and one sister are deceased.
Mr. Wagner retired in 1980 from W.F. Lilly & Co., where he worked as a purchasing agent and in sales. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, the Elkhart Lions Club and Loyal Order of Moose 599.
Memorials can be given to Faith United Methodist Church or Hubbard Hill Estates.
Roscoe McGuire
ELKHART -- Roscoe McGuire, 80, of 1655 Fulton St., died at 2 a.m. Thursday (June 14, 2001) at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in South Bend.
Mr. McGuire, the son of the late Willis H. and Alma (Taylor) McGuire, was born on June 20, 1920, in Ligonier. He married Josephine Maisenbacher on Sept. 22, 1942, in Fort Wayne. She died Oct. 17, 1999.
He is survived by three sons, Michael (Lola) of Shipshewana; John (Patty) of Union and Walter (Vera) of Goshen; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister are deceased.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour before the service at 10 a.m. Monday, all at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. The Rev. Dale A. Turner will officiate and a military graveside service by American Legion Post 243 will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier.
Mr. McGuire served in the U.S. Army during World War II and formerly worked for C.G. Conn and Star Machine. He retired after 11 years as a tool and die maker at Vincent Bach.
Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
Johnnie P. Bryant
ELKHART -- Friends of Johnnie P. Bryant may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Thomas Thews with Jamestown United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie Street Cemetery.
Mrs. Bryant, 73, of 58883 Monte Drive, died at 1:02 p.m. Wednesday (June 13, 2001) in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born in Henderson, Tenn., on Nov. 20, 1927, to Robert S. and Elizabeth (Davis) Brewer and married William E. Bryant on June 20, 1947. He died April 30, 1981.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. David (Beverly) Hochstetler of Elkhart and Barbara S. Bryant of Austin, Texas; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, W. Douglas (Claudia) Brewer of Jackson, Tenn., and Robert L. (Mary) Brewer of Henderson; and two sisters, Blanche Tedford and Francis Busby, both of Henderson.
A brother, Joe Brewer; and sister, Bessie Rankin, are deceased.
Mrs. Bryant was retired from Crown International Inc. and attended Jamestown United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
Warren A. Ruple
ELKHART -- Warren A. Ruple, 84, of 1501 McPherson St., died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday (June 12, 2001) at the home of his son in Fort Wayne.
On June 10, 1917, he was born in Jimtown to John E. and Mabel (Chrisman) Ruple. He married Helen L. Miller in LaPorte on Aug. 24, 1940; she died Dec. 20, 1997.
Mr. Ruple is survived by a son, John (Linda) of Fort Wayne; one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Sue) Shannon of Elkhart; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl of Elkhart, Robert of Goshen and Russell of Fort Worth, Texas; and one sister, Helen Paulus of Elkhart.
A son, Mike; one daughter, Patricia Russell; a brother, Harold; and a sister, Bernice Lesenbe, are deceased.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ronald Mabry with First United Methodist Church of Elkhart will officiate, followed by burial at Rice Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Fort Wayne.
Patricia H. Yeager
BRISTOL -- Patricia H. Yeager, 54, of 15799 C.R. 8, died at Elkhart General Hospital at 5:41 p.m. Monday (June 11, 2001).
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Bristol Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Richard E. Frederick with Woodruff Grove United Methodist Church will officiate, followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange.
Mrs. Yeager, the daughter of Robert and Betty Carney, was born in Sturgis, Mich., on Oct. 8, 1946, and graduated from Lakeland High School in LaGrange.
She married Clinton L. Yeager in Bristol on Aug. 20, 1984, and he survives as well as two sons, Donnie Ritchie of LaGrange and Darrell Ritchie of Stroh; a daughter, Donna Ramey of Bristol; one stepson, Andy (Jennifer) Yeager of Bristol; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Luba) Carney Jr. of Goshen and Kenneth Carney of LaGrange; a sister, Mrs. Ernie (Cheryl) Cripe of Topeka; and her mother, Betty Carney of LaGrange.
One grandson is deceased.
Mrs. Yeager worked for Artisan Interiors in Middlebury and also as a bookkeeper for Bonneyville Carriage Rides.
