Edward Scheessele

Edward L. Scheessele, 82, of Newburgh, died Monday morning at St. Mary's Medical Center. He founded and has operated Edward L. Scheessele & Sons Construction Co. since 1952. He was a member and past president of Metropolitan Evansville Home Builders Association, and life director of the National Association of Home Builders.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the St. John Men's Club and various church committees. He was a member of the St. John Cemetery board for more than 40 years.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus and Knights of St. John.

Surviving are a daughter, Liz Effinger of Wadesville, Ind.; two sons, Damien of Newburgh and Richard of Evansville; two sisters, Sister Anna Scheessele of Evansville and Sister Freida Scheessele of Beech Grove, Ind.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brian, Marc, Keith, Matthew and Emily; and a great-grandchild.

His wife, Carolyn 'Carrie,' died in 1997.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, continuing at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Newburgh, the Rev. Joseph Ziliak officiating, with burial in St. John Church Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home, where a memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Church Expansion Fund, to the Monastery of St. Clare of Evansville or to Our Lady of Grace Monastery of Beech Grove, Ind.

Samuel Settlemoire Jr.

Samuel E. Settlemoire Jr., 75, of Evansville, died Monday afternoon at St. Mary's Medical Center. He retired from Chrysler Corp. after 30 years.

He was a member of Evansville Masonic Lodge 64, Evansville Valley Scottish Rite, Hadi Temple Shrine, Germania Maennerchor, Eugene Pate American Legion Post 265, Evansville Athletic Club, Eagles Aerie 4023, Owls Nest 30 and Indiana Sheriff's Association.

He was a life member of River Bend Association.

Surviving are a daughter, Judy Woehler of Kuttawa, Ky.; a son, Samuel E. III of Boonville, Ind.; his mother, Mary Nell Settlemoire of Princeton, Ind.; a sister, Deloris Gibson of Evansville; and three grandchildren, Tim, Samantha and Matthew Settlemoire.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Rev. Larry Albritton officiating, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where Evansville Masonic Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity or a favorite club.

Matora West

Matora West, 78, of Evansville, died Saturday at Welborn Baptist Hospital.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Katie Freeman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, Eddie B. Ward of Bartlett, Tenn.; two brothers, Dr. Pearl James and John James, both of Blytheville, Ark.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church, the Rev. W.R. Brown Sr. officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Mason Bros. Memorial Chapel, where a wake service will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Otha Carpenter

Otha Newton Carpenter, 80, of Evansville, died Tuesday morning at McCurdy Healthcare Center.

A was a retired welder and worked at International Steel for more than 16 years.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Virginia (Stutsman); six daughters, Joyce Cambell, Annette Hall and Eileen Nguyen, all of Evansville, Judy Carpenter of Louisiana, Tammy Carpenter of California and Sheryl Samm of Dayton, Ohio; five sons, Leroy of Indianapolis, Otha Jr., Donald and Tom, all of Evansville, and James Crowley of Owensboro; a stepson, Ivan Crowley of Evansville; three sisters, Myra Behagg and Minnie Thomas, both of Florida, and Ruth Shelton of Bowling Green, Ky.; a brother, Frank of Evansville; 29 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Glen Flowers officiating, with burial will be in Locust Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Oma 'Lucy' Gander

Oma L. 'Lucy' Gander, 77, formerly of Evansville, died May 10 at Coral Trace Manor in Cape Coral, Fla.

She was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Wadesville, Ind.

Surviving are a sister, Pauline Watson of Fort Lauderdale; two brothers, Delbert L. Dockery of Wadesville and Elmo Dockery of Evansville; and nieces and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 1983, and by a daughter, Barbara Gander.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, the Rev. Terry Gamblin officiating.

There will be no visitation at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel.

Roena Bihm

CHANDLER, Ind. - Georgia Roena Bihm, 88, died Tuesday morning at Woodlands Convalescent Center in Newburgh. She and her late husband formerly worked at the Jewell Cafeteria in Evansville.

She was a member of Chandler Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a son, Paul R. Jr. of Newburgh; two grandchildren, Paul Ramon and Robert Bihm; two great-grandchildren; and a caregiver, Susan Bihm of Chandler.

Her husband, Paul R. Sr., died in 1984.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Koehler Funeral Home Perigo Chapel in Chandler, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m today and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Sylvester Bickwermert

IRELAND, Ind. - Sylvester J. Bickwermert, 81, died Monday night at St. Joseph Hospital in Huntingburg.

He was a retired farmer and truck driver for Ackerman Oil Co.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Veronica (Renner); four daughters, Wanda Knies and Sylvia Jeffries, both of Ireland, Linda Sander of Celestine and Patty Wollenmann of Jasper; a son, Richard of Huntingburg; a brother, Jerome of Sturtevant, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, where St. Mary parish will conduct a rosary at 7:30 p.m. today.

Nellie Kaiser

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - Nellie G. Kaiser, 84, died Monday afternoon at the Huntingburg Convalescent Center.

She was a member of Central Christian Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Hoffman of Huntingburg and Linda Rogers of Mexico, Mo.; two sons, Bill of Huntingburg and John of Highland; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Albert, died in 1990.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Nass & Son Funeral Home, with burial in Fairmount Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church.

Imogene Jenkins

FORT BRANCH, Ind. - Imogene M. Jenkins, 63, died Monday afternoon of natural causes at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Vickie Horne and Emma Schulz, both of Elberfeld, Debbie Harper of Fort Branch; a stepdaughter, Rosalie Hale of St. Louis; a son, Jerry of Owensville; a stepson, Frank Jenkins of Fort Branch; a brother, John Ahlert of Vincennes; six grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and a niece.

Her husband, John, died in 1973.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holder Funeral Home in Owensville, with burial in Maumee Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rosabelle Carithers

PRINCETON, Ind. - Rosabelle P. Carithers, 92, died Tuesday morning at Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield, Mo.

She was a United Methodist minister and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Missouri.

Surviving is a friend who cared for her, Dixie Stone of Washington, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Kenneth Carithers.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Princeton Odd Fellows Cemetery.

There will be no visitation at Colvin Funeral Home.

Marie Burress

Washington, Ind. - Marie I. Burress, 84, died Monday morning at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

She was a member of Main Street Wesleyan Church.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Neal H.; a daughter, Karen Sue Wilson of Washington; two sisters, Helen Montgomery and Lucille Queen, both of Washington; two grandchildren whom she raised, Candi Sue Bauernfiend and Kimberli Palmer-Coy; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Ednabelle Bell

DALE, Ind. - Ednabelle Bell, 83, formerly of Galveston, died Dec. 19, 1997, at Community Care Nursing Center.

She worked for many years as a licensed practical nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo.

She was a member of the Galveston United Methodist Church and a life member of the Scott Lambert American Legion Post 415 Auxiliary.

Surviving are three sons, Jerry Bell of Dale, James O. Brown of California, and Harold D. Brown of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Her husband, Estie, died in 1972.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Galveston Cemetery.

Fuller Funeral Home in Dale is handling arrangements.

Ione Zopf

Ione Daum Zopf, 92, formerly of Evansville, died Jan. 22 at Martha and Mary Nursing Center in Poulsbo, Wash.

She was a 1924 graduate of Central High School and had worked at Finke Furniture Co.

Surviving are a daughter, Lucretia 'Lucy' Sarles of Keyport, Wash.; a son, David O. of The Dalles, Ore.; six grandchildren, David E. Zopf, Jeffrey and Christopher Sarles, Lisa Young, Laura Matthews and Jennifer Dunn; and nine great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Oscar P.N., died in 1981.

The body was cremated. There will be no services.

Poulsbo Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Martha and Mary Nursing Center.

Rebecca Duncan

Rebecca Sue Duncan, 27, of Evansville, died Sunday night at Deaconess Hospital of natural causes.

She was a member of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church and the Mission Circle, a team mother for Evansville Youth Football League and a member of Pine Valley High School, South Dayton, N.Y., class of 1990.

Surviving are her husband, Michael D.; a daughter, Katelynn Leanne of Evansville; a son, Marcus David of Evansville; her mother, Donna Prindle of Evansville; a sister, Jennifer Becker of South Dayton; a brother, Steven Prindle of Evansville; grandparents, Betty and Harold Warrick of Florida, Marion and Milton Reed of Tonawanda, N.Y., and Kathleen Prindle of Evansville; a great-grandmother; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Memorial Church, the Rev. Adrian Brooks officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church, where wake services will begin at 6 p.m.

There will be no visitation at Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel.
