Reverend Father Fred Anthony Schroeder
THE REVEREND FREDERICK ANTHONY SCHROEDER, Senior Associate Pastor at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Carmel, IN, died on Monday, March 1, 2004. He was 86. Fr. Fred was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest by Bishop J. F. Noll in Ft. Wayne, IN, on May 30, 1942.
Fr. Fred was born October 1, 1917, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late Fred & Luella Gard Schroeder. He was a 1936 graduate cm laude of St. Joseph’s College, Renselear, IN; received a Masters of Divinity from St. Meinrad Seminary and a Master of Arts in Liturgical Studies from the University of Notre Dame. Not only did he enjoy opera, but also sports - while at St. Joseph’s College, he shot 2 holes-in-one during the same season.
Fr. Fred was a student of Jungian Psychology and was an author of Every Day Is a Gift, Spiritual Direction for Today’s Catholics and A Little Holy Disorder. He was devoted to the study of the scriptures and attended summer scripture seminars at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein, IL, for over 25 years. He was active in bringing people back to the church, leading a door-to-door evangelism campaign, and serving as a spiritual director.
He has served as associate pastor to churches in Elwood and Kokomo, IN, and as pastor to churches in Monterey, IN, Union City, IN, Remington, IN, Logansport, IN. Father was also diocesan director for vocations. He was a member of #561 Knights of Columbus, St. Francis of Assisi Council.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, in St. Elizabeth An Seton Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the church, with the Liturgy for Reception of the Body, and will continue until 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at which time a vigil service will be held. The wake will continue with an overnight vigil in the Main Church. Entombment will be Tuesday in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
He is survived by his brother Raymond C. Schroeder; sister Joan VanHuffel; nieces and nephews Don, Dick and Greg Schroeder, Suzi Collins, Danny and David Tiedge, Alan VanHuffel, Sheryl Nix, Diane Bradley; 24 grand-nieces and nephews; 7 great-grand nieces and nephews; cousins Dr. Justin Arata, Dr. James Arata, Dr. Lucian Arata, Jane Coleman, Maria Ann Bueche, Nancy Cleghorn, Larry Schroeder, Adelade Caleal, Agnes Laux, Mary Michael Donahue and Helen Schumaker. He was preceded in death by his sister Angela Tiedge and nephew Martin VanHuffel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church for outdoor Stations of the Cross on St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Grounds.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Carmel.
Barbara Ellen Bergstrom
BARBARA ELLEN STEWART BERGSTROM, 71, Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2004.
She was born on April 11, 1932. Mrs. Bergstrom worked for Meijer Grocery Store for three years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Howard L. Bergstrom. Survivors include her children Joyce Bogard, Brenda Lee Catania, and Samuel R. Jones, Sr.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 8, in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Decatur Township. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, at the funeral center. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Ruth Maxine Deerberg
R. MAXINE (McGUIRE) KRUGE DEERBERG, 80, Indianapolis, died March 10, 2004.
She was born September 20, 1923, in Ashland, KY, the daughter of Lloyd and Myrtle (McGuire) McGuire. She lived in a one-room log cabin in the hills of Morgan County, KY, during the Great Depression before moving to Indianapolis at the age of 9. She attended Lawrence and Warren Township Schools. Maxine was a housewife and a member of Lighthouse Community Church.
Survivors: husband Woodrow Deerberg; sons Rex and Keith Kruge (Indianapolis); daughters Peggy Ingram (New Palestine, IN), Sandy Ingram (Bradenton, FL), Susanne Ingram (Naples, FL) and Sheri Hart (Greenfield, IN); 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her first husband David Kruge and a son Larry K. Kruge.
Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2004, at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. Calling will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2004, at the funeral center. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
Dorothy E. Young
Cemetery: Washington Park North Cemetery
DOROTHY E. SMITH YOUNG, 75, Indianapolis, died March 10, 2004.
She was a graduate of Shortridge High School. Mrs. Young was a homemaker.
Her husband Donald E. Young preceded her in death. She is survived by sons Martin S. Young of Vernal, Utah, David B. Young of Vincennes, IN, James D. Young of Lapel, IN, and William A. Young of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Nancy S. Huckleberry of East Enterprise, IN; brother William B. Smith of Morrison, CO; and 10 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Broad Ripple on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at 10 a.m. Friends may call Monday, March 15, 2004, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral center.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice.
Violena C. Freund
Cemetery: West Newton Cemetery
VIOLENA C. FREUND, 92, Indianapolis, died March 11, 2004.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her loving husband Frank, whom she joined in marriage July 15, 1932. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law Rose Freund and Barbara Clark, five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, five great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sons Richard D. and Thomas Freund, Sr., and a sister Irene Bernard.
Services will be Monday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Decatur Township, with calling from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 14. Burial will be at West Newton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Philip C. Hennessee, M.D.
Philip C. Hennessee, M.D., 85, of Indianapolis, died March 11, 2004. Dr. Hennessee was a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine in 1943. He served his residency at Wishard Memorial Hospital, and then formed a private practice in Portland, Indiana with Dr. Don Spahr. He then formed his own private practice for a short period of time in Indianapolis. In 1963 he joined the staff at Central State Hospital and was there until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
During Dr. Hennessee’s distinguished career as a physician, he was a pioneer in by successfully re-attaching a person’s thumb in 1952.
Dr. Hennessee received a commendation from The Honorable Otis R. Bowen, Governor of Indiana, for his diligent and compassionate care to the patients and the families of Central State Hospital.
An interesting event during his career was removing a race car driver who was killed during the Indianapolis 500 race; actually going across the track under a yellow flag.
Dr. Hennessee’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2004 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Broad Ripple, with the visitation two hours prior to the service at the funeral center. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials to the Salvation Army.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Lee Hennessee; children, Linda L. Norris and Stephen L. Hennessee; and two grandchildren, Alex and Christopher Norris.
Morris R. Kelm
Cemetery: Lincoln Memory Gardens
Morris R. “Curley” Kelm, 78, died March 11, 2004.
He was born September 11, 1925 in Monticello, Indiana to Otto and Pearl Kelm.
He was a retired electrician 37 years for I.B.E.W. Local 481. Mr. Kelm was a member of Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, I.B.E.W. Retiree’s and was a US Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 17 in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Carmel with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 16.
Burial will be at Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown, Indiana.
Survivors include: wife, Florence E. (Lakin) Kelm; sons M. Wayne Kelm, Thomas D. Kelm, Charles E. Kelm; daughter, Joyce L. Weidner; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Deck and Janet Cossell.
Jane A. Johnson

Jane A. Johnson, 57 of Indianapolis, died March 19, 2004.
Jane was retired from CVS Drugstore.
Her son and his wife survived her; Ronnie G. & Tammy Johnson. Grandson; Tommy Lee Johnson; two sisters; Linda Foxworthy and Patsy Berry. the family will receive friends Monday, March 22, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Speedway and Tuesday, March 23, 2004 from 10 a.m. until service at Noon, also at the funeral Center.
Burial will follow at West ridge Park Cemetery.

Robert G. Long
Cemetery: Floral Park Cemetery
He was born May 28, 1945, in Thompkinsville, KY. He was a Military Army Veteran, having served for 28 years, retiring in 1980. He also served in the U.S. Air Force as a civilian worker and was also a minister. He was a member of The Baptist Church, where memorial contributions may be sent for their missionary work.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at The Baptist Church, 955 Oliver Street, Indianapolis. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Morris Street. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Hammon Long; children Bobbi Jean Casteel, Donna K. Long, Tammy Strable, Bianca Long, Tommie J. Long; stepchildren Jeffrey Storms, Matthew Storms, Dennis Storms, Jr., Steven Storms; sister Brenda Sadler; brother Jackie L. Long; 12 grandchildren.
Rex H. Charles
Cemetery: Washington Park East Cemetery
He worked for Kite Company for 23 years. Rex was a charter member of Aldersgate Free Methodist Church and a veteran of the Navy, serving for 4 ˝ years.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years Dorcas Irene Charles; his children Gloria Jean Owens, Dennis Harold Charles, Richard Allan Charles and Ernest Jay Charles; a brother William Edward Charles; 9 grandchildren Christopher, Erica, Jeremy, Joshua, Justin, Jason, Aaron, Courtney and Jacob. He was preceded in death by a son Earl Wayne Charles.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Aldersgate Free Methodist Church, 9035 E. 21st St., Indianapolis. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 2, at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Washington Park East, with additional calling one hour prior to service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
Richard Robideau
RICHARD L. ROBIDEAU, 80, Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004.
He was married to Ruth C. (Peterson) Robideau and she survives.
Mr. Robideau worked as a Manufacturers Representative for Greer & Associates, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #34.
In addition to his wife Ruth Robideau, survivors include two daughters Carol Raye Robideau and Debra L. (Jeffrey) Robideau; son Richard L. (Terry) Robideau, Jr.; grandchildren Ryan, Chrissy, Renee, Katherine and Michelle; brother James (Patricia) Robideau; sister Patricia (Raymond) Robideau. He was preceded in death by one brother Allan Robideau.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April, in St. Monica Catholic Church. There will be calling from 4 to 8 p.m. on April 2 in the church’s Daily Chapel with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Entombment will be in Lincoln Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Monica Knights of Columbus Cardinal Ritter Scholarship Fund.

Robert Carl Dawson

Robert Carl Dawson 55 who had homes in Tulsa, OK, also Houston, TX and was formerly of Indianapolis, IN, died May 28, 2004 at Michael De-Bakey Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Houston, TX. Robert worked as a Safety Consultant for major oil companies. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, of the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his father Carl Alfred Dawson. Robert is survived by his wife Debra M. (Trask) Dawson; children Eric M. Dawson, Jennifer A. Lovell, Brian C. Dawson and Jessica E. Graves; mother Virginia L. (Hedrick) Dawson; brothers Michael W., Richard A. and James H. Dawson; three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday 1 p.m. June 5, 2004 at Legacy Funeral Alternatives at Memorial Park, friends may call on Friday, June 5, 2004 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donors favorite charity.
