David Lee Thompson 64, Indianapolis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, died June 2, 2004. He was manager of Contract Administration for 35 years with Naval Avionics, retiring in 1999, also a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Sigma Nu Fraternity (Associated with Butler University).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 5, 2004, 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, friends may call Friday, June 4, 2004 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Alternatives at Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lymphoma & Leukemia Society or Crohn's & Colitis Founation.
David was preceded in death by his father, Howard Thompson. He is survived by wife, Laurel (Gardner) Thompson; children, Christina Jones, Suzanna Reynolds, Mary Thompson, Carolyn Thompson, Rachel Brezenski, Michael, James and Daniel Thompson; mother, Gladys (Demaree) Thompson; sister Shirley Levenhagen; and grandchildren, Ethan and Elizabeth Thompson and Grace Reynolds.

Antavia Lafendir Monroe infant daughter of DeAnna D. Monroe passed away June 2, 2004.
Services will be held at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Lawrence on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 12:00 p.m. with calling 1 hour prior. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery.
Heather N. Scott

Heather Nichole Scott, 20, Indianapolis, died June 2, 2004.
She was a student at IUPUI majoring in Radiation Therapy, a Desk Clerk for Courtyard Marriott at the Airport for 2 years, and a volunteer for the American Heart Association, where memorial contributions may be made.
Her parents, Larry D. and Connie J. Lucas Scott; sister, Ashley Scott; grandparents, Richard and Delores Johns, Jack and Wanda Lucas survive her.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Decatur Township, with visitation there from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 5.
Burial will be at West Newton Cemetery.
William P. McCarthy

William P. McCarthy
Mr. McCarthy was the commanding Officer of his ship in the U.S. Navy, during World War II.
His wife, Phyllys Jones McCarthy who he had been married to for 66 years, and his granddaughter Michelle McCarthy, preceded him in death.
Mr. McCarthy is survived by sons Michael P. (Linda), Thomas H. (Cindy), and William P. (Maryjo) McCarthy II. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and his brother Clarence A McCarthy Jr.
Private services will be conducted at a later date.

Sidney Arthur Broughton

SIDNEY ARTHUR “STEVE” BROUGHTON, 85, Indianapolis, died July 23, 2004.
He was born November 21, 1918, in Sugar Grove, PA, to the late Cecil John and Minnie Luella (Pierson) Broughton.
He grew up on a farm in northwest Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, he worked a year in a steel mill, studying evenings to prepare for college entrance exams. He won a full scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career with Curtis-Wright Aircraft Company in Buffalo, NY. In 1948, while working for Bendix Aircraft, he met his future wife Kay at Columbia University, where they were both completing Master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering.
They moved to California in 1952, where their first three children were born. Job opportunities eventually brought them to Brecksville, OH, where they had the same home for 47 years and a fourth child. Steve retired in 1985 after a long career as an engineer and executive, managing as many as 100 professional staff at diverse companies including Hughes Aircraft, Lear Siegler, B.F. Goodrich, All States Trucking, and International Computers.
He was devoted to the education of his children, all of whom earned Master’s degrees and was proud and supportive of the accomplishments of his wife, who served on the Brecksville City Council for 19 years while working as a standards engineer at the American Gas Association. For many years, he was active in the Independence Presbyterian Church and served as an elder. In his housing development, Cambridge Village, he had a reputation for always lending a hand to his neighbors.
In early 2004, he and Kay moved to Indianapolis to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They have made many new friends at the Westminster Village North retirement community.
Survivors include his wife Kay Elsas Broughton; sons John, Daniel, and Robert; daughter Patricia; grandchildren Christyanna, Anthony, Mitchell, Stephen, Caleb, and Hadassah.
A memorial service is scheduled at Westminster Village North on Sunday, August 22, at 1 p.m. Robert can be contacted regarding the service at 317-968-4254 (w) or 317-257-4329 (h).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brecksville Historical Association, P.O. Box 41403, Brecksville, OH 44141.

Donald S. "Hiram" Rogers

DONALD S. “HIRAM” ROGERS, 79, Indianapolis, died July 31, 2004.
Mr. Rogers was a commercial real estate appraiser and realtor for D.S. Rogers & Associates, Inc. He was a Navy veteran and formerly was a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Service Club of Indianapolis, the American Legion, Woodland Country Club and he was an avid golfer and bowler. He served as a director of the Metropolitan Indianapolis Board of Realtors and was a Member of the Appraisal Institute. He graduated from Shortridge High School, where he was captain of the basketball team and an all-city tight end in football. Mr. Rogers was a 1949 graduate of Wabash College.
His children Douglas E. and Duncan A. Rogers and Laurel Macomber survive him. Also surviving are his companion Katherine “Toddy” Bowser, brother Capt. H. Melville Rogers and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Dolores “Del” Rogers, his wife of 45 years.
Memorial services and intermenty will be conducted at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Friday, August 6, 2004, at 11 a.m. Memorial visitation will be Thursday, August 5, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Broad Ripple.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Richard L. Lyke

RICHARD “DICK” L. LYKE, 70, Indianapolis, passed away Aug. 1, 2004.
He retired from IBEW Local #481, then worked for Royal Pin Leisure Center. Dick was a Director of GIBA and was a member of Cumberland United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include wife Ernestine “Erni” Lyke; children Terry L. Lyke, Larry K. Lyke and Cheryl L. Lyke; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2004, at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Washington Park East, with calling from 10 a.m. until service time and Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. Burial: Washington Park East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
Donna Dawes

DONNA E. DAWES, 59, Noblesville, IN, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2004.
She was born in Danville, IL, on September 10, 1944. She graduated from Indiana State University in 1967 and obtained a Masters Degree in Sociology in 1967. Her work life included teaching secondary and college level English in classroom and correspondence classes to both youth and adults.
She loved traveling, reading and movies. She found many artistic outlets and she enjoyed being a girl. She was a devoted member of Grace Church in Noblesville. She was preceded in death by her father Robert C. McMurtrey, Sr., and by her beloved daughter Cynthia, who passed away at age 4.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years Thomas A. Dawes; two sons Jonathan and Jeffrey; mother Dorothy McMurtrey; sister Rita Warder; brother Robert McMurtrey and many nieces and nephews. She was a loving wife, mother and friend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Riley Hospital for Children, the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 5, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Lawrence and on Friday one hour preceding the memorial service. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 6, at the funeral center. Plans for a gathering at the Washington Park East Cemetery are not yet set.
Ruth L. Mott

RUTH JONES MOTT was the daughter of William M. and Lucy Winslow Jones. A lifelong Quaker, she was born on May 8, 1914, in Fairmount, IN. She graduated from Indiana University in 1936 with a B.S. degree in education and was a member of their Rifle Team.
On June 5, 1938, Ruth married George McMillan Mott who preceded her in death in 1999. They are survived by their children George Michel Mott and Phyllis (Mrs. Jeffery) Wells; five grandchildren Mitchell Mott, Michel Mott, Mollie Shults, Allison Gritton and Hilary Barrett; one great-granddaughter; and her sister Eleanor Cusick. Her brother Robert Jones and sisters Lucille Hill and Pauline Ellis Kimmel along with twin great-granddaughters preceded her in death.
Ruth was a member of and very active in the First Friends Meeting of Indianapolis. She was one of the founding members of goodwill Guild of Indianapolis, served on the board of Bertha Ballard Home and the United Negro College Fund. She was also a Precinct Committee Woman when they resided for almost 40 years on Washington Boulevard. She was a member of the Cilo Club and volunteered at the I.M.A. She enjoyed her family, friends, entertaining, sewing, bridge and reading.
Memorial services will be conducted at First Friends Meeting, 3030 Kessler E. Dr., on Saturday, August 7, 2004, at 5 p.m. Family visitation will be immediately after the service.
Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Broad Ripple is handling the local arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Friends Meeting of Indianapolis.

JOAN WRIGHT SHUEL, 81, Indianapolis, died July 31, 2004.
She was a graduate of Shortridge High School and Butler University. Joan was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and Tri Kappa.
Services will be Friday, August 6, 1 p.m. at Flanner & Buchanan funeral Center - Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Good Shepherd Chapel, 9700 Allisonville road, with calling there from 11 a.m. until service time.
Joan is the widow of Bill J. Shuel and is survived by daughter Leslie Jan (Tom) Schuetz and son Steven Wright (Kathy) Shuel; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice or donor’s favorite charity.
Gerald R. Chasteen

GERALD R. CHASTEEN, 85, Speedway, born in Bicknell, IN, on Oct. 6, 1918, died July 31, 2004.
Retired from Greyhound Lines, Inc., Mr. Chasteen was also a Marine veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater, and a member of Elks Lodge #13.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. August 5 at Speedway Christian Church, with calling one hour prior to service.
He is preceded in death by Grayce Warner Chasteen and Patricia Seneff Chasteen. Survivors include daughters Sally Chasteen and Elizabeth Hardcastle; stepchildren John Seneff and Constance Daugherty; and six grandchildren.
