Mikel G. Lawson

BLUFFTON -- Mikel G. "Scarecrow" Lawson, 41, formerly of Mooreland, died July 25, 2003, at the Bluffton Regional North Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was a veteran who served his country in the U. S. Army.
He spent 25 years as a carnival worker throughout the United States and Canada, where he aquired a wide circle of friends who simply knew him as "Scarecrow."
Survivors include his parents, Earl and Eunice (Bradberry) LaRue; his companion, Arlene Hunt; three brothers, Shawn (wife, Donna) Lawson, Glenn (wife, Cindy) Lawson of Anderson, and Tad Abbott; three sisters, Pamela (husband, Gary) Gee, Terry (husband, Jack) Pittman and Robin (husband, Danny) Fetters; and numerous other relatives. Also surviving is is beloved dog, Toby, that was just like a son.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Main and Frame Funeral Home, Blue River Chapel, 3038 E. Indiana 36, New Castle, officiated by the Rev. David J. Dudenhofer. Burial will take place at Mooreland Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the Blue River Chapel.
George O. Dietrich Jr.
Feb. 10, 1927 - July 24, 2003
George O. Dietrich Jr., 76, Anderson, died July 24, 2003 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born February 10, 1927, in Mulberry and lived in the Anderson area for the last 12 years.
He was a 1945 graduate of West Lafayette High School. He received his bachelor of science degree in 1949 and his masters degree in 1956 from Ball State University.
He served his country in the US Navy during WWII.
He was a teacher/coach for Daleville, Steinsville and Cadiz schools and principal for the Orland and North Vermillion school systems, and a scout for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.
He was a member of the American Legion and Alexandria Eagles. In the early 1950s, he formed a summer softball team for high school aged girls.
He is survived by his five children, twins, Becky Dietrich of Muncie and Debbie & husband Steven Riga of Columbus, Darlene Dietrich of Muncie; twins, Shawn & wife Eve Dietrich of Florida and Vaughn & wife Georgianna Dietrich of Anderson; sisters, Edith Goodnight of Rossville and Georgia Keller of Otterman; granddaughtersn Sarah Riga, Kristin Riga and Leah Dietrich; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, George O. Dietrich Sr. and Olivia (Parigan) Dietrich; and two brothers, Hank Dietrich and Charles Dietrich.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd Street, Anderson, with the Rev. Mike Adams officiating. Burial will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post #266.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the South Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Sept. 15, 1940 - July 24, 2003
Frank Holcomb Sr., 62, Anderson, died July 24, 2003, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 15, 1940, in Cornettsville, Ky., He lived most of his life in Anderson.
He was employed at Burkhart Advertising, Inc.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sharon Holcomb of Anderson; daughter, Angelia (husband, Ben) Wash of Anderson; granddaughters, Tabitha Holcomb-Wash and Haley Hunt, both of Anderson; three stepgrandchildren, Bria Wash and Libby Wash, both of Daleville, and Dane Wash of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are Edward L. Detienne Jr., Leann Dishman, Shirley Drake, Sarah and Jerry Buckner Sr., Leroy Sr. and Joy Detienne, Louie Detienne, Larry Detienne and Sondra Detienne; also several nieces and nephews, Robin Detienne, Darlene Detienne, Diane Wilder, Debbie (husband, Kerry) Hopper, Eddie Drake, Lawrence Drake, Lon (wife, Dee) Detienne, Tara Detienne, Leroy Detienne Jr., Louie Detienne Jr. Stacey O'Bryant, Jerry Buckner Jr., Joy Keesling, James Buckner, Arie Detienne, Adam (wife, Amanda) Dishman, Dusty Detienne and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Willard and Lois of Pikeville, Ky., Bill and Frances Powell and Bob and Ruth Bustle, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, Agnes Logan of Cornettsville, Ky., Clayton and Rita Logan of Anderson; and many friends and co-workers from Burkhart Advertising.
He was preceded in death by his son, Frank Holcomb Jr.; daughter, Crystila Holcomb; parents, Kermit and Easter Holcomb; two uncles, Virgil Logan and Howard Logan; brother, Hatley Holcomb; and half-sister, Gladys.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Jason Shields officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dale G. Kelly
June 11, 1926-July 24, 2003
NORTH PORT, Fla. -- Dale G. Kelly, 77, former Pendleton resident, died July 24, 2003.
He was born June 11, 1926, in Anderson, lived in Pendleton for 49 years and moved to Florida in 1991.
He was a veteran who served his country in the U. S. Army's 25th Infantry Div. during World War II. He saw action in Luzon, the Phillipine Islands and was among the first occupying troops in Japan.
He was co-owner and vice president of Pendleton Furniture, drove a school bus for South Madison County School Corp. and had milk and ice routes in Pendleton.
He was a 55-year member of the Madison 44 Masonic Lodge; a charter member of the Pendleton Optimist Club; past member of Elks Club in Anderson and Englewood, Fla.; member of the American Legion in Port Charlotte, Fla. For ten years, he was a member of the Madison County Shrine Club in Anderson, where he was on the board of directors, and transported sick children to Shrine Hospitals in Chicago, Lexington and Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Bernita "Bernie" Kelly; daughter, Deborah Sisson of Pendleton; son, Alan Kelly of Brownsburg; stepchildren, Cory Graybill and Dorie Graybill, both of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Brian Sesson, Angela Wendricks, Scott and Christopher Kelly, Caitlyn, Hailey and Cody Graybill; sister, Martha Reed, Anderson; brothers, Fred Kelly, Punta Gorda, Fla., Lloyd Kelly, Pendleton and Marvin Kelly, North Port, Fla.; and many close friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, 1935 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, Fla.,
Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the Tuesday service at the funeral home.

Floyd E. Crull
May 7, 1930 - July 25, 2003
ELWOOD -- Floyd E. Crull, 73, passed away July 25, 2003, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was a veteran who served his country in the U. S. Army from 1951-'53, during the Korean Conflict.
He was a self-employed contractor.
Survivors include two daughters, Tami Crull and Helena (husband, Gene) McCarey; six sisters, Grace Alexander, Thelma (husband, Robert) Kidwell, Helen (husband, Don) Davis, Jenive (husband, Leonard) Merida, Rosemary (husband, Bob) Smith and Joan (husband, Danny) Gardner; a brother, Robert (wife, Sherry) Crull; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and beloved friends, Sue Miller and family.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 S. Anderson St., Elwood, officiated by the Rev. Matthew Miller of Central Wesleyan Church. Burial will take place at Elwood City Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Norman C. Allen
July 21, 1912-July 25, 2003
Norman C. Allen, 91, of Anderson passed away Friday July 25, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, during surgery for a ruptured aortic aneurysm. The son of Willard and Ida (Berto) Allen, he was born July 21, 1912 in Covington. In his earlier years, he worked as a coal miner and farmer. He moved to Anderson in 1941, and worked at the Lynch Corp. for 35 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a true lover of life, golf, bowling and casino boat gambling. Norman attended Eastside Church of God, and was a member of the Eagles lodge in Anderson and Alexandria.
He is survived by his three children, Norman E. and wife Linda Allen of Covington, IN; Belinda and husband Robert Simmons of Anderson; Talema Allen and companion Barry Bagley of Anderson; eight grandchildren and spouses, Bryan and Debbie Allen; Lee Ann and Steve Diveley; Bradley and Monica Allen; Jana and Abdo Rabadi; Damian Simmons and fiancé Shannon McCamon; Jemeul Simmons; Zachary Bagley; Mark F.T. Brown; 10 great-grandchildren; his companion, Dorothy Robinette of Anderson and a special friend whom he thought of as a daughter, Lisa Haller-Griffey of Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Phoebe (Brakley) Allen; second wife Lois (Griffith) Allen; and a brother Darrell Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Gary McCaslin officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the Tuesday service at the funeral home.
Alonzo Hagerman Jr.
July 10, 1956 - July 25, 2003
Alonzo "Jr." Hagerman, 47, of Anderson, left this earth to be with our Heavenly Father July 25, 2003.
He was born July 10, 1956, in Anderson where he was a lifelong resident.
He was a member of the Lindberg Road Church of Christ; and a life member and past commander of AmVets Post 692.
Junior was a loving husband and father, and adored his grandchildren who called him "Poppy."
Survivors include his wife, Carla (Dray) Hagerman whom he married April 2, 1975; two children, Jason (wife, Jessica) Hagerman and Shawna (husband, Adam) Purkey; four grandchildren, Austin and Ethan Purkey and Jason Jr. and Jakob Hagerman; brothers and sisters, Imogene (husband, Ed) Vance, Mary Jane Cook, Ruth Anne Carr, Charles Hagerman, James Hagerman, Greta (husband, Phil) Cecil, Brenda Hoover and Adonica (husband, Gerald) Porter; and a special nephew, Durell Cook. Also surviving are best friends, Reagan and Mac.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alonzo Hagerman Sr.; his mother, Rebecca Hagerman; a granddaughter, Jordyn Hagerman; and two nephews, Joey Neff and Donny Cross.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, officiated by Brian Martin of the Lindberg Road Church of Christ. Burial will take place at Saunders Cemetery, Daleville.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
George N. Thomas
Feb. 22, 1913 - Jan. 1, 2006
MARION - George N. Thomas, 92, died Jan. 1, 2006, at Colonial Oaks Healthcare Center in Marion.
He was retired from the Dana Corporation. Prior to that he had owned Thomas Shoe Store in Fairmount.
Survivors include his daughter Delean and husband Bob Johnson; sons, George P. Thomas and Charles Thomas; his sister, Elsie Sharp; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. (Pennock) Thomas.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairmount Wesleyan Church, 304 N. Walnut St., Fairmount, officiated by the Revs. Steven Fletcher and Richard Deisler. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount.
Memorial contributions may be made, through the funeral home, to Fairmount Wesleyan Church.
Joyce P. Willoughby
Oct. 11, 1927 - Dec. 31, 2005
Joyce P. Willoughby, 78, of Anderson, died Dec. 31, 2005, at Rawlins House in Pendleton, following an extended illness.
Survivors include two children, Brad and wife Janet Willoughby and Jennifer and husband Paul Thornton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Willoughby.
Graveside services and burial will be take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, near Fortville, officiated by John Specht.
There will be no visitation.

Paul K. Mayes
June 14, 1938 - Jan. 2, 2006
NEW CASTLE - Paul Keith Mayes, 67, of New Castle died Jan. 2, 2006, at St. John’s Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born June 14, 1938, in Anderson and was the son of the late Lowell Lester and Wertha (Roamy) Mayes.
He had been an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He was known by his CB handle “Daddy Ho-Ho.” He was an avid bingo player and loved being outdoors, fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia (Zirkle) Mayes of New Castle; five daughters and one son, Jeannie (husband, Phil) Hiatt of Elkhart, Paula McGuire of New Castle, Timothy Mayes of Michigan City, Kimberly Mayes of Anderson, Hope Mayes of Anderson, Kelly (husband, James) Lasswell of Anderson; two brothers, Donald (wife, Barb) Mayes of Brazil and Lowell Lester Mayes Jr. of Anderson; his beloved pets, Butch and Sam; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Mayes, and a pet he loved dearly, Mutley.
Services will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Main & Davis Funeral Home Broad Street Chapel in New Castle with Pastor Larry Bigham of the Central Community Chapel in Anderson officiating.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the New Castle American Legion Post 137 and the VFW Post 1282.
Memorial contributions may be made to Patricia Mayes with envelopes available at the funeral home.

July 7, 1960 - Jan. 2, 2007
PENDLETON - Frank Goss, 46, Pendleton, died Jan. 2, 2007, at his residence.
He was a flooring mechanic sub constructor for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Doan; 10 children, Terry Goss, Michael Goss, Donald Goss, Timothy Goss, Tim Doan, Chris Doan, Kenneth Goss, Rebecca Goss, Katie Goss and Jesse Goss; father, Tom Goss; mother, Elsie Kirby; six brothers; six sisters; and five grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton. Burial will be in London, Indiana Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
