James E. Collins

December 15, 2004

PERU - James E. Collins, 48, of 413 Thayer St., Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15 in Peru, Ind., due to an accidental death.

He was born on May 11, 1956 in Plymouth to James and Luella (Hundt) Collins. Jim married Mindy Milner on Nov. 22, 1986.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles, both in Plymouth. He was working for Kaser-Spraker Construction, out of Elkhart, as a supervisor. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mindy; their sons, Ty Henson and A.J. Collins of Plymouth; his mother, Luella Collins of Plymouth; his brothers, Randy and Jackie Collins, Bill and Laura Collins, and Tom Collins, all of Plymouth; and his sister, Debra Noyer of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Collins; his brother, Steven and his sister, Kathy.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth.

Services will be held Monday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Krieg officiating.

Burial will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Diabetes Association, 7363 East 21st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219 or the Marshall County Hospice, 112 S. Center St., Plymouth, IN 46563.

Ruth E. South

December 1, 2004

PLYMOUTH - Ruth E. South, 81, 805 Baker St. Lot 104, Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1923 in Fulton County to Vernard and Ruby (Salts) Goodman.

Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, where she was a past president, Women of the Moose #1355, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and the Presbyterian Women. Ruth worked at Hart Schaffner & Marx in Rochester as a garment finisher. She married Harold South on Oct. 22, 1966.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Harold of Plymouth; her son, Larry (Helen) Beedy , Plymouth; her daughter, Robyn (Dan) Denaut, Plymouth; her brothers, Richard (Betty) Goodman and Robert (Jean) Goodman, Rochester; her sister, Jeannie Watson, Plymouth; her grandchildren, Julie (Kevin) White and their children, Joshua, Kyle and Amber, Plymouth; Shana (Doug) Conway and their children, Caleb, Ashlynn, Lauren and Mack, Goshen; and Brooke (Brian) Drobitsch and their daughter Riley, Plymouth.

Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Mullin officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery.

FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. - James F. Buffington, of Flagler Beach, Fla., a native of Marshall County, died Friday, Nov. 26 at Florida Hospital Flagler.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Brenda and Lynda; sons, James, Michael and Calvin; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

ROLLING PRAIRIE - Hazel Michelle Campbell was stillborn on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at LaPorte Hospital.

She is survived by her parents Carrie Shidler and Jason Campbell, both of Rolling Prairie.

Visitation is Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at the First United Baptist Church of Aldine.

Funeral services are Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at the church.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Joseph Patrick Laurain, 85, of New Port Richey, Fla. died Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Community Hospital of New Port Richey.

He is survived by his wife, Doris of New Port Richey; sons, David Laurain and Ted Laurain, both of Fayetteville, Ark.; daughters, Nancy Martin, Toronto; Mary Cook, Roanoke, Va.; Jody Higgs, Portage, Mich.; Jeana Thurman, Battlecreek, Mich. and Deeann Gray, Battlecreek, Mich.; sisters, Ann Smith, Canton, Mich. and Alice Parish, Lincoln Park, Mich.; step-son, Roger Burkholder, Waupun, Wis.; step-daughter, Sandy Garrard, Martinsville; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Friday, Dec. 3 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home, New Port Richey.

A funeral mass will be on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peach Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Isabel Catherine 'Scotty' Strow

NASHVILLE, Ind. - Isabel Catherine 'Scotty' Strow, 89, of Nashville, Ind., a life-long former resident of Culver, died Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Brown County Health & Living Center, Nashville, Ind.

Isabel is survived by her husband, William Strow, Nashville, Ind.; daughters, Mary. R. Strow, Bloomington and Sheila Yale, Miami; and three grandsons.

Visitation is Friday, Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Brown County Health & Living Center - East Dining Hall.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Friday at Brown County Health & Living Center with Jonathan Hutchinson officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Brown County Health & Living Center Staff Fund.

Lenora R. Franklin

December 2, 2004

PLYMOUTH - Lenora R. Franklin, 94, 3976 Michigan Rd., living in Plymouth since 1957 having come from South Bend, died, after an extended illness, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2. Lenora died in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the past three months.

Born in Worthington, Ind., on Sept. 26, 1910, Lenora was the daughter of Jesse Lee and Clara Fiscus Reece. She was a member of the Baptist Faith and attended schools in Terre Haute, Ind.

On May 19, 1930, Lenora and Sandy L. Franklin were married in South Bend. Sandy died on Oct. 24, 1996.

Lenora first worked at Ball Band in Mishawaka. She continued to work throughout her life at home and in the community serving as a cook for several years in area nursing homes; then retiring from Pilgrim Manor.

She raised chickens and at one time having 1,500 laying hens on their North Michigan Road property, selling eggs out of their home while her husband ran an egg route in South Bend on Saturdays, while working in construction through the week. In addition to the eggs, she also had a vegetable stand, selling produce from her garden. She simply loved working the soil.

In 1990 she and her spouse both received 'Distinguished Citizen Awards' from then Indiana Gov. Evan Bayh.

Lenora is survived by three daughters and their families. They are Marlene S. and Charles May of Plymouth and their children; Owen "Butch" Morgan, South Bend; Pam and Ray Sheppard, Argos; Thomas and Rosemary Morgan, Plymouth; Jill and Gary Morris, Goshen; Robert and Donna May, South Bend; Laurel and Mark Phares, Mishawaka and Mark May also of Mishawaka. Mary L. Soellinger and children; Terry Soellinger and wife Sharon Woloshim of Fortville, Ind.; Karen LaChance and Laura Soellinger, both of Elkhart; Connie and Jim Hertzler of Turkey and Carolyn and Jeff Coyne of Indianapolis. And daughter Sandra A. Weiss of Plymouth also survives along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Lenora was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers; Jessie "Florence" Sigmund, Ona M. Elliott, Lida E. Crain, and infants Lillie and Imogene Reece and brothers; Ira "Clifford", Orlando W. and Lee J. Reece.

Friends will be welcomed by the family for visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services for Lenora will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, in the funeral home. The Rev. Charles Green, an associate of the Plymouth Baptist Church, will officiate. Grandsons Butch Morgan and Terry Soellinger will provide a reflection on Lenora's long and faithful life.

Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Lenora's memory may be made to the Union-North Township E.M.S.

Hildegard Bradley

December 3, 2004

ROCHESTER - Hildegard Bradley, 75, 424 Clay St., Rochester, died Friday, Dec. 3 at 8:50 p.m. at Life Care Center of Rochester where she had been a patient for three months. She had been in failing health for the past four years.

She was born on Aug. 22, 1929 in Berlin, Germany to Hans and Bertha Eichler. She had lived in the Rochester community for the past 58 years coming from Berlin.

Hildegard was a German War bride married in Rochester on Dec. 28, 1946 to Rev. Henry Charles Bradley, who survives.

She had retired from the former Indiana Metal Corp., currently the Textron Corp., Rochester, after 28 years of service. During her tenure, she had served as a quality control inspector. She was a member of the Whippoorwill Pentecostal Church of God in Rochester. She enjoyed sewing and had attended Tailors School in Berlin. She loved flowers, fishing and going to the beach. She also enjoyed playing the violin and the accordion.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Henry Bradley; daughters, Mary (Don H.) Beliles, Bourbon, Barbara Roberta (Brad) Tam, Rochester and Joan Bradley, Rochester; sons, Rev. Erve (Deloris) Bradley, Hamlet and Chuck (Chris) Bradley, Rochester; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Edelgard (Horst) Doring and Gertrude Fruhholz, both of Berlin, Germany. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, step-mother, two sisters and two brothers.

Visitation is Monday, Dec. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Good Family Funeral Home or one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Funeral services are Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester with Rev. Robert Brown and Rev. Frank Whitaker officiating.

Burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery, northeast of Rochester.

He is survived by daughters, Cindy Kaser of Plymouth, Tammy Parker, Julie Cassady, Jane Bell and Chris Norem, all of Walkerton, and Tina Dickinson of Westville; sister, Theda Casteel of Walkerton; brothers, Harold Bell Jr., Michael Bell and Kent Bell all of Walkerton.

Visitation is Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel and Wednesday, Dec. 8. one hour before the funeral.

Funeral services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Walkerton United Pentecostal Church.

KNOX-Marshall H. Cottrell, 77, of Knox, died Friday, Dec. 3 at I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis.

He is survived by wife, Delores; daughters, Debbie Burke, Penny Wagers and Tammy Combs, all of Knox and Jacqueline Watt of Mesquite, Texas; and son, Jerry Wilke of Knox.

Visitation is Monday, Dec. 6, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Rannells Funeral, Hamlet Chapel and Tuesday, Dec. 7, one hour before funeral service.

She is survived by daughter, Valerie K. Leachman of South Bend and Timothy L. (Kimberly S.) Overmyer and Philip A. (Lynn) Overmyer, both of Argos.

Visitation is Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday Dec. 8, one hour before the service.

Funeral services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the House of Prayer United Pentecostal Church, Plymouth.

Burial is in Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.

WALKERTON-Lucille Ross, 84, of Walkerton, died Thursday, Dec. 2, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne E. Ross, Walkerton; daughters; Marilyn Skiles of Cape Coral, Fla.; Judi (Steve) Macy of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and Myra (Mike) Farmer of Sweetser, Ind.; sons; Vern (Lynn) Ross and Jack (Jana) Ross, both of Plymouth; brother, Willard Burkholder, Tyner; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Monday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.

Burial is in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
