Ivan 'Ike' Kline

November 2, 2004

LAKEVILLE - Ivan "Ike" Kline, 69, of Bremen died Tuesday at 9:26 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of South Bend after an illness.

He is survived by three sons Mike J. Kline of Bremen, Mark C. Kline of South Bend and Dale L. Kline of Lakeville; his mother Evelyn J. (Berger) Kline of Lakeville; seven grandchildren; two sisters Mary Kathryn (Bill) Stump of Sebring, Fla., and Nancy L. Kline of Lakeville; and a brother Norbert L. (Rosie) Kline of Bremen.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville.

Military graveside services will follow at Bremen Cemetery.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be given to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

Everett H. Gillis

November 2, 2004

LAKEVILLE - Everett H. Gillis, 94, of Lakeville died Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

He is survived by his wife Helen; two daughters Betty (Dale) Beeman of Lakeville and Delores (William) Newcomb of Lakeville; a son Dale (Barbara) Craft of Sebring, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at County Line Brethren Church.

Burial will follow in County Line Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Agnes Cecilia

November 5, 2004

Seattle, Wash. - Agnes Cecilia Richard, 89, passed away at 7 a.m. Nov. 5, 2004, at Providence Mount Saint Vincent in West Seattle, Wash.

Agnes was born in Argos on May 14, 1915, to Lloyd D. Finney and Barbara C. (Leffert) Finney. She was an orphan at the age of 11 and was raised by her grandfather, John Leffert.

On Nov. 29, 1934, she married J. Arthur Richard in St. Michael's Church in Plymouth and lived and worked on their farm there. The family moved to Lafayette in 1956 and farmed there until their retirement in 1969.

In retirement they lived in Florida and Tennessee and traveled extensively until Arthur's death on July 23, 1985. Agnes continued to travel throughout the United States visiting family and friends while living in Naples, Fla.

Her last four years were spent in Seattle, Wash., in the care of Providence Mt. St. Vincent assisted living center.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Fran) Sigman of Silverdale, Wash.; six sons, Roland (Marge) of Dayton, Glenn and (Vicki) of Charleston, Ill.; Arnold (Rosemary) of Kokomo, Roy (Kathy) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ralph (Sandi) of Fort Myers, Fla., and Robert Richard of Peru. There are 21 grandchildren: Bonnie (Dean) Hufford, Brian Richard, Jerry Richard, Nancy (Roger) Verhey, Steven Richard, Michael Richard, Susan (Sean) Weiss, Rose Ann Sigman, Julie (Ken) Dirks, John Sigman, Donna (Brian) May, Shiela (Brad) Barnett, Eric Richard, Paul Richard, Amy (Keith) Sexton, Adam Richard, Karin Richard (Brad) Conway, Kevin Richard, Jake Slayton, Taryn Richard, and Evan Richard. Agnes also has 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, two sisters, Peggy Schmeltz-Duwelius and Bernice Duff-Meek-Priser, a brother, Francis Finney, and a half-brother, Ambrose Sissel, preceded her in death.

There was a service Monday morning, Nov. 8, 2004, in the chapel at Providence Mt. St. Vincent, 4831 35th Ave. SW, Seattle, Wash.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, from 5-8 p.m. at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563. A rosary service will be held around 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth, followed by burial in the New Oak Hill cemetery in Plymouth.

Van Gilder Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Billy Austin Mayer

November 8, 2004

WARSAW - Billy Austin Mayer, 75, of Pierceton died Monday at 12:45 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He is survived by two sons Douglas (Kristy) Mayer of Warsaw and Larry (Jeanne) Mayer of Plymouth; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; a brother James (Martha) Mayer of Warsaw; and a sister Patricia (Donald) Sand of Warsaw.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with military graveside services provided by American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126 of Warsaw. Rev. Jack Worth and Pastor Bill Stevens will officiate.

Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Betty Lou (Shock) Snay

October 18, 2004

PLYMOUTH - Betty Lou (Shock) Snay, 74, of 909 North Walnut Street Plymouth, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004 at 9:45 a.m. of natural causes in the Hospice House of South Bend.

Betty was born in Plymouth on Nov. 24, 1930 to William Harvey and Dorothy Taylor Tomlinson.

On May 11, 1950 Betty married Elvin (Carl) Shock, he passed on April 15, 1983, then in Plymouth, Indiana, on Feb. 10, 1984, she married Arthur W. (Jack) Snay.

She was a lifelong resident of Marshall County and retired from Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in 1990 after 25 years of service in the laundry department. Betty also served as a school crossing guard on Michigan Street for Jefferson Elementary School.

Betty was a member of the Plymouth VFW Auxiliary. She was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who also loved her pet cats and dogs. In her younger years she would roller skate and continued to have dancing and listening to music as favorite past times.

Betty is survived by her husband, Jack and her two sons, daughter and stepson: Roddy L. and Debbie Shock, Houghton Lake, Michigan, Denny C. Shock, Plymouth, Penny L. (Shock) Dixon, Plymouth, and Arthur F. and Dawn Snay, Plymouth.

She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Eric Shafer, Plymouth, Kelly Trott, Koontz Lake; Chad Shock, Plymouth; Mindy Shock, South Bend; Kyle Shock, Houghton Lake; Becky Blosser, Bremen; Adam Shock, Milwaukee, Wis. her five step-grandchildren are: Lori Johnson, Wyatt Thomas, Mandy Sarna, Steven and Griffen Snay. Eleven great grandchildren also survive.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and her first spouse.

Visitation for Betty will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth

Funeral services will follow visitation on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nathan Babcock officiating.

Entombment will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Marshall County Hospice.

Vivian E. Schneiders

October 17, 2004

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Vivian E. Huxman Schneiders, age 82, of Manhattan, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at the Stoneybrook Health Care Center in Manhattan.

She was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Urbana, Ohio to Arthur A. and Ruth Steinburger Huxman. After the death of her father she lived at the IOOF Home west of Manhattan, Kan. until graduating from Manhattan High School in 1940. In 1941, Vivian graduated from the Sacred Heart Business Academy.

During World War II, Vivian worked as a secretary at the USO where she met her husband, Fran. After the war she and her husband owned and operated a dance studio in Aggieville for 25 years. She retired from Kansas Farm Bureau in 1988 after working there for 20 years.

Vivian was a member of the First United Methodist Church and pianist for the Harmony Rebekah Lodge 689.

She is survived by three children: Dick Schneiders and his wife Twila of Salina, Kan., Nancy Yates of Manhattan and Tony Schneiders and his wife Cindi of Argos, six granddaughters and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers: Norman Huxman and his wife Sue of Sebring, Fla.; Joe Huxman and his wife Natalie of Henderson, Nev.; Don Huxman and his wife Ramona of Sugerland, Texas; and a sister Ann Wingfield of Lawton, Okla., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan with Rev. Jim Reed officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. Wednesday until service time at the church.

Ronald C. Howton

ARGOS - Ronald C. Howton, 62, 6768 Talma Road, Rochester, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004 at 7:09 a.m. at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, where he had been a patient since Friday.

Ronald was born May 23, 1942 in Chicago to Colman M. and S. Lois (Burton) Howton.

He had lived in the Marshall County Fulton county areas most of his life since moving from Chicago in 1946.

On May 24, 1997 in Argos he married Eileen Parko.

He had served as president of Talma Fastener Corporation in Talma following father's retirement in 1990. He was a member of Argos United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1966 when he was stationed in Germany.

He is survived by his wife Eileen Howton of Rochester; a daughter Dina L. (Patrick J.) Griffin of Jamestown, Colo.; two stepdaughters Sharyn L. (Phillip B.) O'Bryan of Boise, Idaho, and Laurie L. Parko of Austin, Texas; his mother Lois Howton of Rochester; a sister Judy (Robert) King of Bourbon; two brothers Mike (Beverly) Howton of Rochester and Richard (Vivian) Howton of Elkhart; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father on Nov. 26, 2000 and a brother Dan Howton in 1980.

Services will be Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Argos United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert J. Vale officiating. Argos American Legion will conduct military honors at the church following the service.

Visitation will be Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., at Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, or one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Memorial gifts may be given to Argos United Methodist Church or the University of Arkansas Medical School Cancer Research Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

KNOX - Dale E. Blair, 70, of Knox died Tuesday at home following an illness.

He is survived by three sisters Jean Crail of Woodland Hills, Calif., Bonnie Lind of Saratoga, Calif., and Dinah Wintzen of Arvada, Colo.; and two brothers Neil of San Jacinto, Calif., and Ed of Lafayette.

Visitation will be Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., and two hours before the service on Thursday.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.

PLYMOUTH - Jade Graham, 2 months and 7 days old, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

She was born Aug. 10, 2004 in South Bend to Albert and Bryte (Gross) Graham.

She is survived by her parents Albert and Bryte Graham of North Liberty; her brothers Chavez Barber, Skye Barber, Ricky Graham and Nathaniel Graham, all living at home; her sisters Donna Graham and Kandace Graham, also at home.

Family services were Wednesday. Burial took place in New Oakhill Cemetery.

WALKERTON - Raymond A. Norris, 90, of Walkerton died Monday at Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton, following an illness.

He is survived by a stepdaughter Beverly (Lynn) Fraine of Koontz Lake, a son John (Cheryl) Norris of Koontz Lake and a brother John (Dorothy) Norris of Plymouth.

Visitation will be Wednesday, 4-8 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. until services at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

PLYMOUTH - Arthur "Dick" F. Young, 80, of Plymouth died at 11 a.m. in Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth.

Memorial services will be Friday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Dean Fager officiating.

Burial will be in New Oak Hill Mausoleum.
