WARSAW - Joseph R. Miller, 86, of Warsaw died Thursday at 4:30 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.
He is survived by a daughter Jo Ann Klodzinski of Mishawaka, a son Joseph Miller of Leesburg, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw.
Visitation will be Friday, 4-8 p.m., at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
Burial will take place on Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military graveside services conducted by Warsaw American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126.
Memorial gifts may be given to Our Father's House or Sacred Heart Tuition Fund.
Howard E. Mitchell

ROCHESTER - Howard E. Mitchell, 80, of Rochester, died Friday, Sept. 17 at Life Care Center, Rochester, following an illness.
He is survived by two daughters: Connie Lou Mitchell, Rochester and Sharon K. (Ed) Willyerd, Lakeland, Fla.; one son, Monte D. Mitchell, Rochester; four brothers: Charles W. Mitchell, Ventura, Calif.; Stanley (Pat) Mitchell, South Bend; Robert E. Mitchell, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Rev. Glen A. (Sue) Mitchell, Plymouth; and a half brother, Marvin Mitchell, Chicago.
Visitation is Tuesday, Sept. 21 at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services are Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

PLYMOUTH - Eugene "Gene" O. Thornburg, 75, 11819 Queen Road, a Plymouth area resident most of his life, died unexpectedly of natural causes, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, at 2:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004.
Gene was born in Walkerton on Aug. 2, 1929, the son of Homer O. and Ethel E. Hilterbrand Thornburg. He graduated from West High School in 1948, and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was married to Janet Ann Green in Plymouth on Jan. 31, 1953. Janet died on Jan. 2, 1986. On June 29, 1990, Phyllis J. Kersey became Gene's wife and survives his death.
Retired after 30 years from Bendix's Allied Signal division in 1985, Gene then worked for Cardinal Supply for six years after which he worked for Kroger's until his retirement in June of this year.
Always active, not content to rest, Gene opened a bait shop about a month ago and was looking forward to operating his own business. To demonstrate the kind of man he was, Gene was enthusiastic about life and was known in his neighborhood for putting up enormous displays of Christmas lights to delight children and passers by.
He enjoyed playing the fiddle and liked country dancing. He used to have jam sessions at his home where his friends would gather, play music and cook chicken or beef and noodles.
An officer in the Moose Lodge 741, Gene was also a member of the Culver Eagles and the Plymouth American Legion Post 27.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and by a daughter and two sons. They are Lois and Max Warren and Ronald E. Thornburg, all of Plymouth and Kenton H. and Rebecca Thornburg of Cotopaxi, Colo.
Three stepsons also survive: Kevin and Lisa Kersey and Darrin Kersey, all of Plymouth and Michael and Mary Jo Kersey of Copperas Cove, Texas.
Eleven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren survive as well, together with a brother, James and Irene Thornburg, Donaldson, and two sisters, Ruth and Dennis Zent, Nappanee, and Evelyn Eyrich, Bourbon.
Visitation will be in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004.
A memorial service by members of the Moose Lodge will be held in the funeral home at 8 p.m.
Funeral services for Gene will be conducted by the Rev. Jim Pippenger, pastor of the Bethel Tabernacle, in the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. Military honors will be given in honor of Gene's service to his country by the Plymouth VFW Post 1162.
Graveside services at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Osceola, will be held at 2 p.m.
Memorial gifts in Gene's memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

PLYMOUTH - Robert L. Bridgman, 68, of Plymouth died Wednesday at 5:35 a.m. in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
He is survived by his daughters Lana Shafer of Peoria, Ill., Christine Range of Chicago, Bobbie Guyse of Plymouth, Robin Poole of North Carolina and Debbora Ousnamer of Plymouth; his son Kevin Bridgman of Plymouth; his sister Betty Formhalf of Illinois; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, 4-7 p.m. at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth. There will be no funeral service.
Memorial gifts may be given to Activity Fund at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, 222 Parkview, Plymouth, IN 46563.

Koontz Lake - Irene G. Bell, 86, of North Union Road, Walkerton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004 at 6:15 a.m. in her home.
Irene was born July 13, 1918 in North Liberty to Charles and Lura (Seltenright) Dreibelbis and lived in the area all of her life.
On February 17, 1936 in North Liberty, she was married to Harold L. Bell who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son Lee C. Bell; two daughters Dorothy (Bell) Hyndman and Jeannie (Bell) Magnuson; two sisters Martha Lampert and Cybal Springman; three brothers Max, Ronald and Dewey; and a grandson Trey Bell.
Survivors include one daughter Theda (Fred) Casteel of Walkerton; four sons Alan Bell, Harold (Sandy) Bell Jr., Michael (Kelly) Bell and Kent (Katrina) Bell, all of Walkerton; a sister Byrdie Searfoss of Walkerton; a brother Norman Dreibelbis of LaPorte; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker, a member of Teegarden United Methodist Church and Rebecca Lodge of Walkerton.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, with Pastor Tim Davis officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.
Friends may call Thursday, 4-8 p.m., and Friday after 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Marshall County Hospice.

Deborah L. Johnson

North Judson - Deborah L. "Debbie" Johnson, of 209 Maryland St., North Judson, died at 2:18 am on Monday, Sept. 6, 2004. Debbie, 48, died at her residence under the loving care of her family and hospice.
Born on April 28, 1956 in Knox, Debbie was the daughter of Bill Miller, Sr. and Lounette Clark Back.
After receiving her GED, she received an associate's degree from Ancilla College, Donaldson.
Debbie was a homemaker who enjoyed going to the boat, playing bingo, and the precious time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
She is a member of MADD.
Debbie is survived by three daughters: Stephany (Jacob) Casteel and their children, Shelby and Jacob of Plymouth; Crystal Johnson and her son Stone of Plymouth and Misti Johnson of North Judson, and two stepsons: Jim "Jimmy" (Kris) Johnson and their children, Amber, Sara, Kylie, Taylor, Trey, and Ashley of Plymouth and Shane (Amanda) Johnson and their children, MacKenzie and Adrian, of Plymouth.
Also surviving are her stepfather Manford K. Back Sr. of Plymouth, a sister: Janet (Bob) Edwards of North Judson, a stepsister: Valerie Back of Plymouth; and five brothers: Bill (Penny) Miller, Roger (Nikki) Miller, Owen Miller, all of Knox; Freddy Miller of California and Wayne Miller of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Miller, Sr, her mother Lounette Back, her step-brother, Manford "Kash" Back, Jr., Misti's daughter, Cheyanna Jackson, and a nephew Jarrod Edwards.
Friends may visit with Debbie's family from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept., 9. 2004 at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Debbie will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in the funeral home. Pastor Jim Pippenger will officiate.
Entombment will be in the Bremen Cemetery Mausoleum, Bremen.

WALKERTON - Kathleen H. Rhodes, 56, of Walkerton died Sept. 6, 2004 at Hospice House, South Bend, following an illness.
She is survived by a daughter Dawn Marie Rhodes of Walkerton; two sons Donald Rhodes of Walkerton and Tim Rhodes of North Liberty; four brothers Harry Higbie and Ted Higbie of New York, Sidney Higbie of Florida and Joseph Higbie of Texas.
Visitation will be today, 5-8 p.m., at United Pentecostal Church of Walkerton and Thursday after 10 a.m. at the church.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church.
Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
Charles (Leo) Roush

PLYMOUTH -Charles (Leo) Roush, 82, of Plymouth, passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at 7:40 p.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth.
He was born on May 7, 1922 in North Liberty to Charles and Harriet (Collester) Roush.
He married Mary Myers on Nov. 19, 1948 in Plymouth. They have lived in Plymouth since the time of their marriage. Leo worked for the Plymouth Foundry for 40 years. He served his country in the Army during WWII on the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He had been stationed in Pearl Harbor.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; their daughters, Dorothy and Bob Majires of Streamwood, Ill. and Diana and Van Price of Plymouth; their sons, David Roush of Plymouth, Steve and Laurel Roush of Culver and Michael and Theresa Roush of Plymouth; his sister, Margaret Maugus of LaPorte; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth.
Services will be Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Rustin Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Diabetes Association, 7363 East 21st St., Indianapolis, IN.

NORTH LIBERTY - Loeva R. Kaser, 82, of North Liberty, died on Friday, Aug. 27 at 6:35 a.m. at the Hospice House, South Bend, after an extended illness.
She is survived by three sons: Craig (Cindy) Kaser of Las Vegas, Nev, Garey (Nancy) Kaser of South Bend, and John (Julie) Kaser of South Bend; two sisters, Evelyn (Treffert) Shewmaker of Lexington, Ky. and Jewel (Braxton) McGraw of Whitehouse, Texas; and eight grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services in church on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30 at the North Liberty Church of Christ. Rev. Tim Stewart, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Graveside services and burial will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty.
