PLYMOUTH - Patrick Wayne Strickland, 26, died Friday at the Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, as the result of a car accident.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer (Stump) Strickland, Plymouth; daughter, Sierra Strickland, Plymouth; father, Bo (Joy) Strickland, Lakeville; mother, Debbie Strickland, Plymouth; sister, Barbara (Mike) Shoemaker, Cedar Lake; brothers, Bo Strickland, Lakeland, Fla.; and Timothy (Sandy) Vice, Temperance, Mich.; step-brother, Derrick O'Blenis, Lakeville.
Visitation will be Aug. 12 from 3-8 p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral service will be Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial contributions may be made to Brain Injury Assoc. of America.
William Henry Dickson

INWOOD - William Henry Dickson, born Jan. 20, 1933, in Inwood, Indiana, made his journey to Heaven on July 27, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer.
William is survived by his loving wife Hanna Lore of 47 years and four children. William's children are saddened by their great loss. William leaves behind his oldest son Peter and his wife Margaret and their two children Whitney and Zachary, the oldest daughter Debra and her daughter Kassidy, his youngest daughter Patricia and her two children Rebbeka and Kevan and Patricia's granddaughter Essence and William's youngest son Robert and his three children Brandon, Brigette, and Shelby. William is the oldest of 11 children born to Henry and Naomi (Compton) Dickson of Indiana who preceded his passing. William also leaves behind 2 sisters in Indiana, Helen (Jack) Johnson of Plymouth and Geneva Graham of Brownstown and one sister Marjorie Dickson in Phoenix, Arizona, a brother Guy (Irene) in Superior, Arizona and two brothers in Indiana, Michael (Pam) in Claypool and Richard in Argos.
After graduating from Bourbon High School in 1950, William worked as a telegrapher on the Wabash Railroad until he joined the Army in 1953. William met Hanna his wife whom he adored while stationed in Germany. While serving his country he did a tour in Vietnam and in Thailand, for which he received 4 Bronze Stars, six service stripes, an Army occupation medal in Germany, an Oak leaf cluster, and experience reading photograph from U2 spy planes. William was in charge of setting up a new communication system in the White House during the 1970s. He received many other ribbons and medals for his exemplary service of 21 years with the United States Army. William was also with Civil Service for 20 years serving his country proudly.
William was a Republican through and through, GO BUSH! Services were held at the First United Methodist Church at 331 S Cooper Road in Gilbert, Arizona on Saturday July 31, 2004. Full military services were conducted in Cave Creek, Arizona, on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004.

CULVER - Arlene J. Wilder (Nix)-Omans, 75, formerly of Culver, went home to the Lord at 2:35 p.m. on Monday.
Arlene was born on Sept. 17, 1928, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Andrew J. Wilder and Gladys (Skinner) Lane. She was first married on March 15, 1955, in Lakeland, Fla., to Charles J. Nix for 23 years. She later married Russell J. Omans on August 9, 1991. He survives.
Arlene is also survived by her loving daughters: Deborah (Bill) Pea of Eden Prairie, Minn.; Deanna (Jim) Allyn of Argos; and Donna (Eddie) Oquendo of Westfield; sons: Daniel Nix of Birmingham, Ala.; and David (Glenda) Nix of Clanton, Ala.; step-sons: Andrew (Cynthia) Omans of Waterford, Mich.; Bradley Omans of San Diego, Calif.; Jeffrey Omans of Waterford, Mich.; and Mark Omans of Anaheim, Calif.; brother: Robert (Johanna) Wilder of Conyers, Ga.; 5 grandchildren: Daniel and Jonathan Nix, Timothy Allyn, Cara and Elise Oquendo, 11 Step-grandchildren, and 11 step-Great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Geraldine (her infant twin) and Iola Gnadt; brothers: Jim and Edward Wilder; infant daughter Diana Nix, 1 stepson, and one step-Great grandson.
She was a former resident of the Culver area, former journalist at the Rochester Sentinel and former editor of the Culver Citizen. She was also a journalist in Apple Valley, Calif., and for the Kirtland Community College in Roscommon, Mich. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ when she lived in Culver, and more currently, a member of St. Helen Community Baptist Church.
She was a life-member of Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 Ladies Auxiliary, Plymouth Eastern Star Chapter 26, St. Helen American Legion Auxiliary 416, Society of Professional Journalists, PhiThetaKappa Chapter of Kirtland College, Roscommon, Mich.; International Honor Society; Tolfree Memorial Hospital Auxiliary of West Branch, Mich.; Kirtland Alumni Club, Ms. Club, and Mikenauk Chorale, Roscommon, Mich. She also served on the Kirtland College Board of Trustees in Roscommon, Mich. for 6 years.
She was a great lover of animals, music, her family, and the Lord. She never met a stranger, having made friends with people all over the country, including many famous people. She was an avid reader and journalist and was active in her church and many organizations. Her family and friends will miss her smiling face, optimistic outlook, zest for life, and sense of humor.
Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, August 13, from 3 - 7 p.m. at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver. Rev. Ken Peterson and Rev. Paul Nye will officiate funeral services on Saturday, August 14, at 10 a.m. at Grace United Church of Christ, Culver.
Burial will follow at Maxinkuckee IOOF Cemetery, Culver, with a VFW Ladies Auxiliary service at the graveside.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

PLYMOUTH - Sergeant Patrick "Pat" Wayne Strickland, 26, passed away at 8:10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, as a result of an automobile accident.
Born the son of Bo and Debbie Strickland in LaPorte, Ind., on Sept.14, 1977, Pat graduated from John Glenn High School with the class of 1997.
Pat was a member of the Indiana National Guard for nine years. A member of Company H of the 151st National Guard infantry unit from Plymouth, he had come home safely earlier this year after serving his country for 14 months in Iraq. He was honored +with an award upon his return.
The young soldier will be remembered as someone who loved his country and was proud to serve her and his fellowman. Even after death, he continued to give of himself. As an organ donor, seven recipients will live because of his desire to help other people.
In just over a month, Pat and his wife, Jennifer Strickland would have celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary, having been married in Plymouth on Sept. 9, 2000.
He was a quality control inspector for Fairmont Homes in Nappanee.
Pat liked to fish and to beat everybody bowling, tinkering with stereo equipment -- but most of all, being with his beloved daughter, Sierra and his family.
Pat is survived by his wife, Jennifer and their daughter, Sierra, both of Plymouth. Other survivors are: his mother, Debbie Strickland, Plymouth; his father, Bo and (Joy) Strickland, Lakeville; two brothers, Timothy and Sandy Vice, Temperance, Mich.; and Bo Strickland, Lakeland, Fla. A sister Barbara (Mike) Shoemaker, Cedar Lake, Ind., and a stepbrother Derrick O'Blenis also survives. Also surviving are: maternal grandfather, Wayne Vice, Flagstaff, Ariz.; maternal grandmother, Florence and Tom Erdelyi, Walkerton; paternal grandmother, Mildred Pegg, Walkerton.
Karen Boocher, Pat's mother-in-law and Marc Stump, his brother-in-law, both of Plymouth, also survive. Father-in-law, Dennis and Pam Stump, Chino Hills, Calif., survives as well, together with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by a grandfather, Jack Pegg and an uncle, Floyd Dale.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Chaplain Major Daniel E. Sherar, a chaplain for the Indiana National Guard, will officiate at Pat's funeral services on Friday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
Full military graveside honors will be conducted in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Pat's name may be made to Brain Injury Assoc. of America or to the Sierra Strickland trust fund c/o First Source Bank, Plymouth, Indiana.

Andrew G. Schoppel

WANATAH - Andrew G. "Bud" Schoppel, 85, died at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5,in his Wanatah home after a brief illness.
He was born March 11,1919, in Gary to Martha (Sipos) and Andrew Schoppel. In 1949 he married Myrtle Weber in Zion Evangelical United Brethren (now Faith United Methodist) Church parsonage, Wanatah. The Rev. George St. Angelo preformed the ceremony. She preceded him in death in 1996.
He graduated from Merrillville High School in 1937 and remained friends with classmates throughout his life. Bud Schoppel grew up farming near where I-65 & US 30 are today, moving to Wanatah in 1939. When he was 27, he went into partnership with Roy Mitchell of Mitchell & Schoppel, later owning the International Harvester farm implement dealership in Wanatah, then LaCrosse, until he retired in 1981. His favorite color was red.
He and Myrt "wintered" in Avon Park, Fla., from 1978 until he sold his home there in 2003. A past master and 50 year member of the Westville Masonic Lodge # 192, he also belonged to the Orak Shrine, Michigan City.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers: Elizabeth (Wilfred) Werner, Martha (Homer) Grismer, Edward Schoppel and Robert Schoppel.
Survivors include: sisters-in-law, Beulah Schoppel and Ethel Kirk, several nieces and nephews: Earl (Colleen) Werner, Jerry (Sandy) Werner, Charles Grismer, David (Patti) Grismer, Brian (Linda) Schoppel, Janet Schoppel, Ralph Schoppel and Mary Jo (David) Finley, great and great-great nieces and nephews and many more who called him "Uncle Bud".
His funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Salem United Church of Christ, 302 S. Main St., Wanatah. Rev. Craig Forwalter will officiate.
Memorial contributions can be made to Salem United Church of Christ or to the Westville Masonic Lodge # 192.

She is survived three daughters: Dee-Ann Schroeder; Di-Ann Houin, and Amy Harner, all of Plymouth; four sons: Daniel Scarberry, Henderson, Nev.; Geoff Scarberry, Plymouth; Rob Scarberry, Plymouth; and Tim Scarberry, Ft. Wayne; and a brother, Larry Chambers, Urbana, Ohio.
Visitation is Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 4-8 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth and one hour prior to services at the First United Church of Christ, Plymouth.
Funeral services are Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at the church.

Robert William Relos

Robert William Relos, 46, passed away Sunday, at his mother's residence, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He will be very much missed. His family was his life and he loved and was loved by them all.
Born on Sept. 20, 1957, in South Bend, Bob was the son of Robert D. Relos and Carol Noble. He graduated from John Glenn High School with the class of 1975 and from Franklin College with a Bachelor's degree in 1979. He earned his Masters of Science in Education from Indiana University.
While in school he was on the Dean's List and was a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. A cross country runner, he ran in the Boston Marathon and coached the sport at Ancilla College.
He taught school for seven years at Oregon-Davis, four years at Bremen and 11 years at LaVille. He was a much loved colleague of the teachers as well as being admired and respected by his students.
Bob loved running, loved his guitars and his Mustang car. He was a member of the Michiana Mustang Club and was their newsletter editor for many years. He won a Gold Award at the Mustang 40th anniversary show in Nashville, Tenn., with his pace car.
He is survived by his fiancee, Mary Warner, Granger, Ind.; his mother, Carol Noble, Plymouth; and his father, Robert D. Relos, North Liberty.
A sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Mike Noble and a niece, Elizabeth Noble of Koontz Lake, also survive.
He was preceded in death by Thomas Relos, a brother.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.
Funeral services conducted by Tom Padberg, chaplain of the Marshall County Hospice, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, in the funeral home.
Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Bob's memory may be made to the Marshall County Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
