Patricia A. Scarberry

PLYMOUTH - Patricia A. "Pat" Scarberry, 72, died, following a prolonged illness, at her home in Plymouth, at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday. Pat had lived in Plymouth for 49 years, moving here in 1955, from Ashland, Ohio.
The daughter of Carl and Catherine Morgan Chambers, Pat was born in Urbana, Ohio, on December 10, 1931. She attended Urbana schools.
On January 5, 1947, in Urbana, she married M. Dale Scarberry. Dale died on April 26, 2003.
Pat was the founder and operator of the Plymouth Telephone Answering Service. She then worked for the Plymouth Pilot News, the Little Red Shoe House and then retired as a sales associate from J.C. Penny.
She enjoyed crocheting, also reading and writing short stories and poetry. She liked to sing, travel and visit her family.
A member of the First United Church of Christ since 1959, Pat was a Sunday School teacher, a Cub Scout Den mother and an officer in the Webster School P.T.A.
She is survived by three daughters and four sons. Her twin daughters and their husbands are, Di-Ann and Glen Houin and Dee-Ann and Mike Schroeder; and daughter, Amy and Lawrence Harner, all of Plymouth. Her sons and spouses are Daniel (Sandy) Scarberry, Henderson, Nev.; Geoff (Cheryl) Scarberry and Rob Scarberry, all of Plymouth and Tim (Michelle) Scarberry, Fort Wayne. A son-in-law, John P. Massey, Evansville, also survives. Thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Larry (Linda) Chambers, Urbana, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Janet Chambers, Bellefontaine, Ohio, survive as well.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her spouse. A daughter, Susan Carol Massey has also died as has a grandchild, Zachary Houin and a brother, Carl Chambers.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth and one hour prior to services in the church.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11 in the First United Church of Christ, 321 N. Center St., Plymouth. The Rev. John Gantt pastor of the church, will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorials may be directed to the Marshall County Hospice, to the First United Church of Christ or to the Diabetes Association.

Eldon Paul Davis
August 8, 2004
Eldon Paul Davis, 81, of 7984 N 700 W, Culver, Indiana, passed away on Sunday August 8, 2004, at 12:30PM in Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, Indiana. He was born on January 15, 1923, in Culver, the son of Guy and Fredona (Rinehart) Davis.
On June 30, 1945, he married Elisabeth Zechiel, who survives. He is also survived by a son - Paul (Cathy) Davis of Culver, Indiana, a daughter - Eldonna (Michael) Risner of Knox, Indiana, grandchildren - Justin Davis of Culver, Brandon (Jamie) Davis of Muncie, Indiana, Clint, Brent, Keith, and Kurt Risner of Knox, Indiana, and one great-grandchild - Matthew Davis of Muncie, Indiana.
He spent his entire life working on the family farm as a dairyman and raising hogs. Even though he had a busy work life, he found time to be involved in community activities, with his family being most important. He enjoyed watching and attending all the activities of his children and grandchildren, and always looked forward to the family get-to-gethers.
His favorite hobby was collecting antique tractors, with his favorite being a titan, one like the one his father had, and he liked to show them by participating in various parades. He graduated from Culver High School in 1941, and he attended agricultural short courses at Purdue University in 1942 and 1943. While attending Purdue, he sang in the Glee Club with Al Stewart, who was the first full-time director there. He played the trombone in the school band.
He was Trustee of Aubbeenaubbee Township from 1962 - 1970; a member of the Aubbeenaubbee Township Improvement Corporation; member of the Marshall County Dairy Association, Marshall County Humane Society, Fulton County Historical Society, 55 year member of the Culver Lions Club, the Culver Community School Board, where he was currently serving his 23rd consecutive year and a member of the Halding Corporation during the time the Aubbeenaubbee High School building was built.
He was a member of the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 18 years, a class teacher, a trustee, and janitor. Being gifted with a good voice, he also sang at many church services, weddings, and a few funerals. He also led the singing of the many singspirations held at local churches, as well as played the violin in the church orchestra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister - Barbara, and brothers - Donald Davis of Culver, and Harold Davis of Columbus, Ohio.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00PM at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, Indiana, on Thursday, August 12, 2004. The Culver Lions Club will hold memorial services at 8:00PM. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 13, 2004, 11:00AM at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Culver, Indiana. Burial will follow in the Culver Masonic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marshall County, Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, or to the donor's choice.

Callie C. Culter
August 8, 2004
CULVER - Callie C. Culter, 106, passed away Sunday, at 11:28 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Culver.
She was born on June 26, 1898, in Culver, to John and Byrdie (Snider) Hawk.
Callie married Ambrose Martin. They had a daughter, Virginia Baker Booker. After the death of Ambrose, Callie married John Ellam and had a daughter, Shirley Clark. John passed away in 1942. In 1946, Callie married Errol Culter. He passed away in 1968.
Callie was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ, Culver, a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, Culver, and was also a member of the Maxinkuckee Rebekah Lodge, Culver. She was the first female telephone operator in Culver. She later worked as a maid for the Culver Military Academy.
Callie is survived by her daughters, Virgina Baker Booker, Plymouth, and Shirley Clark, Springfield, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Denna Langfeldt, Garrett; Arlene and Chris Batalis, South Bend; Richard Baker, Indianapolis; Dr. Andrew Clark, Springfield, Ill.; Ann and Kevin Shea, Springfield, Ill.; Mathew Clark, Fla.; and Lt. Stuart and Kelly Clark, Fort Riley, Kan.; 18 great-grandchildren; a special great-grandchild, Connie Derry, Culver, who help with Callie's care; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandchild, April Baker; two sisters; and a brother.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 12, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth.
Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Nye officiating.
Burial will be at the Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Grace United Church of Christ, 307 North Plymouth St., Culver IN 46511.

Charles Bingle
July 28, 2004
ROCHESTER - Charles Bingle, 81, died at 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester where he had been a patient.
He was born in Cleves, Ohio, on August 8, 1922, the son of Orville and Zettie Peak Bingle. He had lived in the Rochester area since 1960 after moving from Miami County, Indiana.
He was married to Marjorie A. Butler Bingle, who survives. Charles had retired from Torx - Camcar Corp. in Rochester after 17 years of service.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Argos. Charles was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran of the Pacific Theater when he was stationed in the Philippines. He had been very active with the Fulton County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
Charles is survived by his spouse Marjorie; three daughters, Susie Amelio (Frank) of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Penny (Jesse) Olds of Winamac; Dawn Hartog of Argos; five sons, Mike Bingle (Patty) of Nyona Lake; Steve Bingle (Kim) of Cincinnati; Rick Bingle (Chris) of Radcliff, Ky.; Randy Bingle (Donna) of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Jerry Bingle (Delilah) of Plymouth; one sister, Gertrude Pace of Rochester, several grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy.
Visitation is set for 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2004, at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, 128 W. 6th Street, Rochester. Pastor Robert Mace will preside. Burial will take place at the Richland Center IOOF Cemetery northwest of Rochester.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military graveside services at the cemetery on Monday.

ST. LOUIS, MO. - Thomas A. Mahoney, 76, died Monday of complications from lung disease.
He is survived by wife, Ursula; sons, Charles Mahoney, Storrs, Conn.; John Mahoney, New York, N.Y.; and brothers, James Mahoney, Tucson, Ariz.; and Don Mahoney, Argos.
Funeral services this week will be private.
A memorial service will be held at Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management sometime after classes resume next month.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Dr. Mahoney's undergraduate alma mater, Wabash College, P.O. Box 352, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.

HAMLET - Floyd D. Strickland Clemmons, 47, died Wednesday, after being struck by a vehicle.
He is survived by wife, Monica; son, Taylor Clemmons, Hamlet; step-son, Zach Wireman, Hamlet; mother, Mildred Pegg, Walkerton; father and step-mother, F.D. (Betty) Strickland, Sr., Ala.; and brother, F.D. "Bo" Strickland, Jr., Lakeville.
Services will be Aug. 2 at 4 p.m. at Rannell's Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Visitation will be Aug 2 from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Rannell's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

RICHMOND - Catherine L. Hoggatt, 85, died Monday at Kindred Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born April 8, 1919 in Richmond to William C. and Blanche Sherman Reddington, she was a life long resident of Wayne county. She was a 1937 graduate of Morton High School. Catherine was a former employee of Greens Fork State Bank and also in the office of Charles Miles. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan K. Hoggatt, Plymouth; brother, W. Thomas Reddington; sister, Dorothy Oda, Apple Valley, Calif.; and also nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Martin Hoggatt, who died July 12, 1997; her parents; tow brothers, Barney Reddington and William Reddington; three sisters, Lena R. Batten, Helen Phelps and Margaret Loebr.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on July 21 at Doan and Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, IN 47374, with the Rev. Mark Wesler officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Green Fork South Cemetery, Greens Fork, Ind.

Donn M. Birmingham

MEMPHIS, TENN. - Donn M. Birmingham, 72, a former Plymouth resident, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at his home.
Donn was a member of Elks Lodge 2039 and Moose Chapter 545. He was also a retiree from Honeywell and Christian Brothers University.
Surviving are his wife, Sally Birmingham; daughters, Julie A. Gaines, Spring, Texas; Kelly L. Birmingham, Memphis; son, Donn E. Birmingham, Broken Arrow, Okla.; sister, Beverly Geske, Rolling Meadows, Ill.; also surviving are nine grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Mass was said at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 15 at Catholic Church of the Ascension with burial in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Catholic Church of the Ascension.

Survivors include daughter, Jelena (Don) Campbell, Billings, Mo.; brothers, Orris (Delores) Enget, Powers Lake, N.D.; Kenneth Enget, Fresno, California; and Ellsworth Enget, Williston, N.D.; sisters, Lila Wendlandt, and Agnes (John) Boschee, all of Spokane, Wash.
Services will be July 15 at 1 p.m. at the United Pentecostal Church, 2335 Lewis Ave.
Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

PLYMOUTH - Leo R. Houin, 80, died at 7:03 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, following several years of a courageous battle against cancer. Leo died in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. He had lived at the Forest Hills subdivision that he developed.
Born on his family's Plymouth homestead on June 9, 1924, Leo was the son of Francis A. and Frances R. Smith Houin. He graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1943.
He married the former Mary Jane Johnson, who passed away in 1980. He was then wed to Marjorie Michel Houin, who died in 1982. On August 18, 1984, Leo and Marilyn E. Sellers-Bules were married. They were set to celebrate their 20th anniversary in three weeks.
Leo was a successful lifetime farmer and land developer. He had served on the 4-H Fair Board, the Plymouth School Board, as the Center Township Assessor and a director of the American Milk Producers Inc.
Family life was very important to him; especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to travel, camp and golf. He enjoyed Plymouth High School basketball, attending Purdue bowl games and was a former member of the John Purdue Club.
He was also a member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge 741 and of the Knights of Columbus Council 1975.
Leo is survived by his spouse Marilyn and daughter, Louise A. (Gary) Webster, Noblesville; and sons; Allen L. Houin, Kenneth R. (Jan) Houin, Mark A. (Rene) Houin, Kevin L. (Tammy) Houin, all of Plymouth. Also Marvin L. (Diane) Houin, Bremen; Dr. Herman P. (Connie) Houin, Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.; and Dr. Raymond E. (Eileen) Houin, LaPorte. Forty-one grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren survive.
Two brothers and three sisters also survive, they are: Bernard L. (Betty) Houin, Argos; and Lawrence E. (Frances) Houin, Plymouth; Irene Wenzel, Mishawaka, Catherine A. Haeck, and Teresa R. (Lloyd) Anderson, Plymouth.
Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Susan K. Houin, Plymouth; three step-daughters, Elaine R. (John) Ferguson, Argos; Deb Cortner, McCordsville; and Kathy Hammonds, Tippecanoe; and two step-sons, Robert H. (Sharon) Bules, Bremen; and Greg Michel, Plymouth.
Leo was preceded in death by two spouses, a son, Earl Lee Houin, and an infant child. A sister, Sr. Mary Francis Houin, P.H.J.C.; and two brothers, Elmer V., and Carl Houin; step-son Ron Michel and step-grandson Todd, have also died.
Friends will be welcomed to celebrate Leo's life from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. A rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2004, in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church where Leo was a member. The Rev. Father William Kummer will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in Leo's memory to the Marshall Co. 4-H Program, St. Michael's school and church, the Marshall County Hospice, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
