BREMEN - Clara B. Overmyer, 83, of South Bend died Wednesday at 5:45 a.m. at her residence.
She is survived by four nieces Doris (Gerald) Hall of Longview, Texas, Patricia (Devon) Weaver of Nappanee, Sandra Edwards of South Bend and Marsha (Uri) Castillo of Mishawaka; two nephews Gerald (Carol) Sherk of Gladewater, Texas, and Thomas (Eileen) Sherk of Bremen; and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, with Dr. Bud Steadman of Community Baptist Church in South Bend officiating.
Burial will take place in Bremen Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Edna L. Alexander Sleppy

ARGOS - Edna L. Alexander Sleppy, 97, of Plymouth died Wednesday at 10:10 a.m. at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home.
She is survived by her son Thomas (Gladys) Alexander of Argos; three grandsons; a granddaughter; three great-granddaughters; six great-grandsons; and a great-great-grandson.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Burial will take place in Palestine Cemetery, Palestine.
Visitation will be Thursday, 4-8 p.m., and one prior to services at Grossman Funeral Home.
Eugene 'Bud' Freehauf

BREMEN - Eugene "Bud" Freehauf, 85, of Lakeville, died Wednesday at Bremen Health Care Center.
He is survived by a daughter Jean (Lowell) Schlemmer of Mishawaka; two sons Michael (Kathryn) Freehauf of Lakeville and Tom Freehauf of Elkhart; two sisters Susie Leininger of North Liberty and Violet James of Bremen; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Woodland with pastor Karl Brenner officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorial gifts may be given to St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 15697 New Road, Woodland, IN.
Mishler Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Charles O. Howard

SOUTH BEND - Charles O. Howard, 95, of 53182 Bonvale Dr., South Bend, passed away Friday, April 23, 2004 at 3:05 p.m. in Hospice House, South Bend.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1908 in Rockport, Ind. to Oscar and Lula (Niles) Howard.
Charles married Ethelyn Steelman on Oct. 22, 1937 in Indianapolis. She passed away Jan. 20, 1997. They lived in Plymouth from 1937 to 1967 then moved to Florida. In 1992 they moved to Goshen. They owned and operated the Howard Farm and Home Supply, in Plymouth, for 30 years. He mostly ran elevators and grain businesses.
Charles had served on the Plymouth Library Board and was the Center Township Trustee as well as the Democrat Precinct Committeeman. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and held a number of church offices.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Lucy Ann Strait of Boulder, Colo., and Nancy Sue and Don Reed of Greenfield, Ind.; his sons, Dr. James and Sue Howard of Wooster, Ohio, and Dr. Paul and Christine Howard of South Bend; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Thomas Howard of Princeton, Ind. and Robert Howard of Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Visitation will be Monday, April 26, 2004 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth.
Services will be held Monday, April 26, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home in Plymouth with Rev. Gilbert Washington officiating.
Burial will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the First United Methodist Church, 400 North Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN, 46563.

Virgil W. Quivey
April 23, 2004
PLYMOUTH - Virgil W. Quivey, 86, of 9102 Quince Rd., Plymouth, died of natural causes in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2004.
A lifetime Marshall County resident, Virgil was born the son of Clarence and Nellie Irwin Quivey on March 23, 1918. He graduated from Culver High School with the class of 1936.
On Dec. 1, 1940, in Plymouth, Virgil and Frances L. Dawson were married. Frances survives his death.
A farmer and outdoorsman his entire life, he was also a bus driver for the Plymouth Community Schools. A member of the Christian Fellowship Class of the First United Methodist Church, he had also served on the church board of trustees.
In addition to his wife, Virgil is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Robert Matejka, living in North Carolina.
Two grandsons and their spouses also survive. They are: Jon and Chimene Speer, Plymouth, and Jeff and Theresa Speer, South Bend; and three granddaughters: Julie Speer, South Carolina; Lisa Hallenbeck and Marcie Matejka, both in North Carolina. Great-grandsons Wesley, Jacob, Andrew Speer, all of Plymouth, and a brother, Hugh Quivey, also of Plymouth, survive as well.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters: Karen Quivey and Janet Speer. Three brothers and a sister have also died. They are Albert, Ronald and Glen Quivey and Mary Alice Lannon.
Friends may visit with the family to celebrate Virgil's life from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 26 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 27. The Rev. Dr. Dean Fager, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, where Virgil was a member, will officiate.
Interment will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the First United Methodist Church's Music Fund, or the charity of the donor's choice.

FT. WAYNE - J. Casey Clindaniel, 52, of 6006 Brandy Chase Cove, Ft. Wayne, formerly of Bremen, died Friday, April 23, 2004 at 5:40 a.m. at Regency Place Health Care Center, Ft. Wayne, after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his father James A. (Aileen) Clindaniel, Bremen; his mother, Dorothy (Casey) Mottram, Ft. Wayne; sister, Deborah Polivick, Muncie; step-sisters, Cindy Harder, South Bend and Glynes (Darwin) Austin, Osceola; and step-brothers, Robert (Loretta) Mottram and Scott E. Mottram, both of Columbia City.
Visitation is Monday, April 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, Ft. Wayne. Friends may also call one hour prior to services in the Bremen Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel on Tuesday.
Funeral services are Tuesday, April 27 in the Bremen Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary Hinkle officiating.
Burial will follow in the Bremen Cemetery.
Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Ft. Wayne chapter.
Helen T. "Geri" Hunley

PLYMOUTH - Helen T. "Geri" Hunley, 75, died from cancer and an extended diabetic illness in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, at 10:40 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2004.
In addition to her husband, Frederick, Plymouth, Geri is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry A. and Stephen Slater, Plymouth, and a son Wayne E. and Virginia Hunley, Schereville, Ind.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no public service or visitation.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Geri's memory be made to the American Diabetes Association, 53631 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530-8581.

BREMEN - Elizabeth Price Berry, 87, 515 S. Whitlock St., Bremen, died Monday, April 26, 2004 at 11:12 p.m. at Community Hospital of Bremen.
She is survived by a daughter Linda Armstrong of Portland, Ore.; a son Michael Berry of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Friday, April 30 at 2:30 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bourbon.

BREMEN - Norma Lierey, 73, of Covington, Ky., formerly of Clay Township in South Bend, died Thursday in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Burlington, Ky.
She is survived by her son Frank Leirey of Lawrenceburg; one grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and a brother Charles Stillwell of Nashville, Tenn.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, where visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Burial will take place in Bremen Cemetery.

George A. Smith

DEMING, N.M. - George A. Smith, 89, of Deming, formerly resident of Argos died Friday April at his home.
Services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Baca's Funeral Chapels in Deming with Rev. Al Bunting, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Concluding services and intermenty followed at Mt. View Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Linda Smith of the home; a son Donald E. Smith of Deming; a daughter Iva Jean (Lawrence) DePue of Berrien Center, Mich.; a brother, Dale S. Smith of Argos; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Donald C. Meyers
April 25, 2004
PLYMOUTH - Donald C. Meyers, 80, 816 Ferndale St., Plymouth, died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at 7:27 p.m. in his home.
He was born June 26, 1923 in Chicago to George and Helen (Budka) Meyers. He attended grade school in Chicago and high school in Michigan City. He attended Purdue University and Jackson College in Hawaii.
Donald served in the United States Air Force from November of 1942 until retirement in August of 1970 as lieutenant colonel. He served as aircraft commander in the 457th Bombardment Group (heavy), 8th Air Force, in England during World War II from October 1944 to March 1945. He flew 35 missions over Germany. He was aircraft commander in the 21st Troop Carrier Squadron in Korea during that conflict from December 1950 to October 1951. He was also an aircraft commander in the 313th Tactical Airlift Wing in Vietnam during that conflict from December 1967 to January 1969. His aero ratings were command pilot, flight examiner, instructor pilot, test pilot and he had 10,000 military pilot hours. He received Distinguished Flying Cross, nine air medals, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation. He held positions in the regular Air Force as aircraft commander, operations officer, squadron commander, inspector general, Alaskan air command and base operations officer.
He is survived by his loving daughter Lorraine Meyers of Austin, Texas; a daughter Cynthia Latham of Alabama; a son George C. Meyers of California; a granddaughter Lindsay Waite of Alabama; and an uncle Harry Budka of Plymouth. Other survivors include his loving adoptive family Jo Pritchard of Plymouth, Sherry and Dan Barnes and their family of Birdseye, Michael Pritchard and his family of Denver, Colo., Barb Mills and her family of Plymouth and Becky and Jacob Pritchard of Plymouth.
Memorial services will be Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, with Rev. Sam Boys officiating.
Burial will take place in Marion National Cemetery, Marion. A military service will be conducted by Culver VFW Post.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Virgil J. Spindler
May 8, 2004
PLYMOUTH - Virgil J. Spindler, 2000 Westgate, died at 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2004. Virgil, 82, died of natural causes in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Born in Bourbon on March 23, 1922, Virgil was the son of Virgil Franklin and Nellie Scott Spindler. He attended Bourbon High School.
During World War II, in 1941, Virgil, in the U.S. Army for 3 1/2 years, served on Guam and in the Philippine Islands.
On Sept. 14, 1946, in Rochester, Virgil and Clarice M. Eshelman were married. Clarice survives his death.
An Indiana Motor Bus driver for 27 years, Virgil retired in 1983.
Virgil was a Chicago Cub fan. He enjoyed working with his hands and planted a small and fruitful vegetable garden in the spring.
He was a member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge 741 and attended services at Sunrise Chapel, Plymouth.
In addition to Clarice, his wife of 57 years, Virgil is survived by four daughters and a son.
They are Sheila and John Rinkenberg and Melinda Kletka, all of Plymouth, Nancy and Tom Huffman, Rochester, and Doreen Spindler, Indianapolis. His son, Tom and Cheri Spindler, are also of Plymouth. Seventeen grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren survive as well.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Spindler, a son, and Joleen Spindler, a granddaughter.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside funeral services will take place in New Oakhill Cemetery on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Rustin Krapfl, pastor of the Sunrise Chapel, will officiate.
Military graveside services will be accorded to Virgil by the VFW Post 1162 of Plymouth.
The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorial gifts in Virgil's memory be made to the Marshall County Hospice.
