WINAMAC - Douglas Paul Newman, 17, of Winamac died Saturday at 7:42 p.m. in Knox.
He is survived by his parents John F. and Jeanne (Rickman) Newman of Winamac; his sisters Laura Lynn Beth Newman of Winamac, Kathleen Mae Newman of Winamac and Angela Rose Newman of Winamac; his brother John Russell Newman of Winamac; his half-sisters Tomara Jean Fleury of Lafayette, Alison Fleury of Columbia, Mo., Joey Ann Fleury of Culver, Angela Renee Fleury of Plymouth and Kelly Dee Conley of Camby; a half-brother Allen Edward Fleury of South Carolina; his maternal grandparents Juanita Mae and Edward Paul Rickman of Culver; his paternal grandfather Herbert Russell Newman Sr. of Culver; and his fiancee Chantel Marie Redlin of Winamac.
Visitation will be today, 3-8 p.m., at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, and after 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Life Center Church.
Services will be at Life Center, Winamac, at March 31 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Heath Hiatt officiating.
Burial will follow in Zion Reformed Church Cemetery, Culver.
Gertrude M. Daugherty

PLYMOUTH - Gertrude M. Daugherty, 79, of Michigan Road, Plymouth, died of natural causes, after a long illness, at 10:20 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2004, in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart.
Gertrude was born in Grundy, Va., on Feb.22, 1925. She was the daughter of Henry Clay Meadows and Alta Meada Stiltner.
On Aug. 17, 1943, she and Lazarus Daughtery were married. She was always proud of her husband, a coal miner for more than 30 years. Lazarus died on Aug. 2, 1984.
A housewife and homemaker, Gertrude also worked at Pilgrim Farms during the early 1970s.
She enjoyed doing things for her family of 10 children: Cooking, sewing, gardening and the necessary chores in raising a large family.
Gertrude loved to travel, she had visited most of the Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest areas of the United States.
Gertrude is survived by her 10 children. They and their spouses are: Franklin (Sandy) Daugherty, Ohio; Vinia and Troy Helton, Walkerton; Larry (Linda) Daugherty, Kentucky; Gladys Heiman, South Carolina; Jerry Daugherty, Plymouth; Vivvian and Bill Britton, Plymouth; Terry Daugherty, LaPaz; Elden Daugherty, Nappanee; Walter Daugherty, Florida and Velvie Dominguez, Bourbon. Eighteen grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren survive as well. Five sisters also survive. They are Clarcy Meadows, Sarah Meadows, Opal Meadows, Elsie Biesemeyer and Evelyn Farmer.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.
Friends may visit with Gertrude's family from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Funeral services, officiated by Ralph Dotson, of Claypool Full Gospel Tabernacle, will be Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, Indiana.
Interment will be in the Akron Cemetery, Akron.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Marshall Co. Unit.

BOURBON - Warren D. "Ham" Byrer, 85, of Bremen Health Care, formerly of Bourbon, died Wednesday at 12:45 a.m. in Bremen Community Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Juanita; two daughters Judy Rae (Roy) Gallinger and Sally Kay (Jim) Fawley, all of Bourbon; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother Donald (Frances) Byrer of Bremen.
Visitation will be Friday, 4-8 p.m., at Country Church, north of Bourbon.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Pastor David Gould officiating.
Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.

PLYMOUTH - Catherine L. Cox, 94, of Plymouth died Tuesday at 8:40 p.m. at Catherine Kasper Life Care Center, Donaldson.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Plymouth, with Father William Kummer officiating.
Burial will follow in New Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 5-8 p.m., in Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth.

ROCHESTER - Tona D. Miller, 57, of Rochester died Tuesday at 4:40 p.m. at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
She is survived by a daughter Tia (Trevor) Heishman of Rochester; two brothers Robert (Karen) Miller of Rochester and Thomas (Peggy) Miller of Rochester; a granddaughter; and her stepmother Evelyn Miller of Rochester.
Services will be Saturday at 10 am. in Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with Kelly Dittman officiating.
Burial will follow at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 4-8 p.m., and one hour pior to services on Saturday.
Memorial gifts may be given to Rochester Girls Softball League.

PLYMOUTH - Eugene M. Stewart Sr., 77, of Plymouth died Wednesday at his residence.
He is survived by seven daughters Patricia Harness, Mary Hostetler, Grace Hummel, Betty Whiteman, Candy Shufelt, Samantha Stewart, all of Plymouth, and Ellen Kaiser of Walkerton; three sons James Stewart of Plymouth, Alan Stewart of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Carl Stewart of Plymouth; four sisters Betty Wheaton of El Paso, Texas, Lola Stewart of Downers Grove, Ill., Elizabeth Latshaw of Denver, Colo., and Thelma Gorsika of Springfield, Mo.; and two brothers Glen Stewart of Newbern, Tenn., and Burl Stewart of El Paso.
Visitation will be Friday, 4-8 p.m., at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Plymouth House of Prayer.
Burial will follow in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts may be given to Center of Hospice, American Heart Association or Plymouth House of Prayer.
William Hugh Hawthorne

PLYMOUTH - William Hugh Hawthorne, a resident of Avon Park, Fla., since 1980, died of natural causes Sunday evening March 14, 2004, in Florida Hospital, Sebring, Fla. William was 88 years old and had resided with his wife at 822 S. Loretta Ave.
Born in Blackford County, Ind., on February 6, 1916, he was the adoptive son of P.H. and Edith Bedwell Hawthorne. He graduated from Hartford City High School, Ball State University and had attended the American University in Maryland.
He served his country as a member of the United States Army in World War II and was a member of the American Legion.
On Dec. 24, 1941, in Teegarden, William and Edith E. Davenport were married.
William was a school teacher in the Plymouth, LaPaz and Walkerton high schools, a band instructor he also taught science and math.
He was a member of the Melody Makers and Highland Aires Dance Band, playing with Bill Shemberger, Ken Hallman and Myrtle Clouse.
He also directed the choir and was a member of the Plymouth First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to Edith, his wife of 63 years, William is survived by a son, William L. Hawthorne, Crofton, Md., and by two daughters and their spouses Merry and Robert Schwindt, Muncie, and Sue and Mike Felisky, Lake Placid, Fla.
Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive together with a sister, Dorothy Granger, Orestes, Ind.
Services in Florida will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2004.
A service will also be held in the New Oakhill Chapel, Plymouth, Ind., on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Courtley Granger, pastor of the Orestes Christian Church, will officiate.
VFW Post 1162 will accord William military honors.
Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, is in charge of arrangements.

Marian Hamp Nixon

WABASH - Marian Hamp Nixon, 85, of Culver, IN, died Sunday, March 14, 2004, at 10:30 p.m. at Miller's Merry Manor in Warsaw. She was born May 15, 1918, in Indianapolis to Robert J. Hamp and Dorothy Kautz. She married Joseph Henry Nixon on July 18, 1940, at Crystal Lake Michigan. He died Dec. 20, 1988.
She graduated as the "Good Citizen of Kokomo High School Class of 1936." She attended University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark., 1936-38, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from National College, Evanston, Ill. in 1940. She lived in Peru and moved to Wabash in 1954.
She was partner and secretary of board of directors at the Kokomo Tribune until 1980. She was feature writer for Nixon Newspapers. She was active in Wabash Presbyterian Church.
She was a founder and first president of the Culver Mothers' Club 1960-62, Culver Military Academy. She was on the IU-Kokomo Advisory Board Emeritus. She belonged to the Wabash M.W. Harrison, study group, Wabash Musicale, and the Indiana Arts Commission. She worked to save the Dora Bridge in Wabash County in 1965. She was a founding member Wabash Valley Civic Music Assn., and a past president of the Indianapolis Symphony Society, and belonged to the Ballet Board with Pauline Geyer's Wabash Valley Dance Theatre.
A member of the Honeywell House Board of Overseers, and the Wabash Historical Society, she was a member of the Antiquarian Society of Culver; Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council and she participated in the Indiana University Alzheimer's Core Study. She moved from Wabash to Lake Maxinkuckee in 1989.
She is survived by two daughters, Joan Elizabeth Nixon of New York, N.Y., Eugenia Fulkerson of Warsaw; two sons, Don Morrison (Judy) Nixon II of Carmel, IN, Joseph Henry Nixon of Santa Cruz, Calif.; three Brothers, Robert J. Hamp of Houghton Lake, Mich., Dr. Arthur (Jerrie) Hamp of Grand Rapids, Mich., David (Cynthia) Hamp of Mercer Isle, Wash.; one sister Juliana (Raymond) Mehlig of Kokomo; nine Grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son John Arthur Kautz in 1960.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash.
Funeral service will be held at Wabash Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 21, 2004 at 2 p.m. Rev. John Ritchie will officiate.
Burial will be in Falls Cemetery Wabash.

Aileen Mary Woolfington

FRANKFORT - Aileen Mary Woolfington, 87, of 1555 N. Main St., Frankfort, formerly of Jefferson, passed away Monday, March 15, 2004 in St. Vincent Frankfort Hospital.
Born March 18, 1916 in Waupaca, Wis., the daughter of Carl and Dorothea M. (Hanson) Cook. She was a 1934 graduate of Waupaca High School and attended Baby Nursing School at Evanston Cradle, graduating in 1936.
On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Eugene E. Woolfington and he preceded her in death Aug. 5, 2001.
Mrs. Woolfington worked as a baby nurse at The Cradle in Evanston, Ill., for several years. She was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Ladies Aide and Willing Workers Sunday school class.
Surviving are a son Michael (Jane) Woolfington of Plymouth; a daughter Lynne White of Remington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and three brothers.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Amanda Reid Chapel in Wesley Manor Retirement Community with Pastor Judy Fuller and Rev. Don Weaver officiating.
Calling will be Thursday 4-8 p.m. at Archer-Weston Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at Wesley Manor.
Memorial gifts may be given to Jefferson United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow in Bunnell Cemetery in Frankfort.

KOONTZ LAKE - Franklin "Gene" Cole, 77, of Walkerton, died Monday at home following an illness.
He is survived by his wife Ella Mae; two sons Randy Cole of Walkerton and Jerry Cole of Portage; two sisters Willie Stevens of Griffithville, Ark., and Deloris Landos of Glendale, Ariz.; and two brothers Arlan Cole of Crown Point and Richard Cole of Hebron.
Visitation will be Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

HAMLET - James Kuchel, 63, of Grovertown, died Monday at his home following an illness.
He is survived by his wife Sheila; a daughter Kimberley Boley of Grovertown; two sons James of Hamlet and Brett of Rochester; three sisters Doris Trumble of Tennessee, Evelyn DeVault of Donaldson and Juanita Skinner of Koontz Lake; and a brother Raymond of Tyner.
Visitation will be two hours before the service which will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
