Kenneth L. Wilhelm
Services for Kenneth L. Wilhelm 83, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, in Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born Oct. 26, 1925, in Starke County, he was the son of Melvin and Nora Fry Wilhelm. He was married Aug. 20, 1943, in Logansport, to Betty J. Reeser, who survives.
He retired from Kain’s Motor Service. Kenneth had also worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for several years.
Kenneth was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the Philippines and earning three Bronze Stars. He was a member of the VFW Post 3790 and attended First Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Wilhelm loved to bowl, golf and work in his garden.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Peggy L. Horn and husband, Larry, Kewanna, and Lois Jean Callaway and husband, James, Logansport; granddaughters, Betty Lyday and husband, Steve, Indianapolis, and Beth Howard and husband, Tony, Logansport; grandsons, Edward Callaway and wife, Melissa, Kentucky, and Douglas Callaway, Logansport; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Freida Swihart, Plymouth; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, six sisters and one grandson, Jason Horn.
Dr. Horace Smith will officiate. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to Church of the Nazarene or A Cause for Paws.
Howard ‘J.R.’ Slifer
DENVER - Services for Howard “J.R.” Slifer, 77, Twelve Mile, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at McClain Funeral Home.
He passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Born April 28, 1931, in Twelve Mile, he was the son of Howard and Nellie Glassburn Slifer. On Sept. 12, 1948, at the Baptist Temple in Logansport, he was married to Eileen Kingery, and she survives.
J.R. was the owner of the Ford Dealership in Twelve Mile for over 50 years. He received multiple Dealer In Excellence awards.
He was proud to serve his community as a volunteer fireman for over 50 years. He was named the first Fireman of the Year in Cass County in 1983. J.R. was one of the founding members of the Cass County Crime Stoppers and was past president. He was a member of VFW in Logansport, Eagles 852, the American Legion 60 and a 50-year member of the Royal Center Masonic Lodge 585.
J.R. had a love for music and played guitar for 67 years. He had the privilege of playing with Hank Williams Jr., Stonewall Jackson and Crystal Gayle … to name a few. In 1949, his band, the Cass County Ramblers, played the opening for radio station WSAL.
He enjoyed getting together with his friends for jam sessions and teaching his son and grandsons to play the guitar. He also had a love for camping, mushroom hunting and spending time with his family.
Survivors include two children, Donita Hook and her husband, Jim, Logansport, and Anita Boldry and her husband, Steve, Rochester; a daughter-in-law, Helen Slifer, Florida; two sisters, Sandra Tigler and her husband, Bill, Denver, and Patty Cooper and her husband, Wally, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Mary Weller, Kokomo; 11 grandchildren, Rob Hook, Wendy James, Doug Hook, Bill Hook, Eric Slifer, Marcus Slifer, Gabby Slifer, Libby Behr, Tammy Bonnell, Brad Boldry and Scott Boldry; 14 great-grandchildren; and several, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charlie Slifer, and one brother, Richard Weller.
Pastor Bob Cree will officiate. Burial will follow in Spring Creek Cemetery, rural Cass County.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Twelve Mile Volunteer Fire Department or American Diabetes Association.
Thomas G. McGrath
Services for Thomas G. McGrath, 50, Garfield Heights, Ohio, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pulaski.
He died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009.
Thomas was the beloved husband of Sandy Brady McGrath and the loving father of Sarah, Jay and Sean. He was the dear brother of Tim (Theresa) and Pat (Simone) McGrath.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay O. and Virginia Doyne McGrath.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4130, third degree. He was also a dedicated football coach.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery West, Pulaski. The VFW and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church.
Gladys M. Enders
Services for Gladys M. Enders, 88, Logansport, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Logansport Church of the Brethren.
She passed away at 11:50 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru.
Born March 3, 1920, in Miami County, she was the daughter of John and Grace Weaver Eshelman. On Feb. 27, 1960, in Monticello, she was married to Robert Enders, who preceded in death on Feb. 26, 1980.
Gladys retired in 1978 after 32 years of employment at Logansport Machine Co. She was a member of the Logansport Church of the Brethren.
Surviving is a sister-in-law, Carolyn Eshelman, Galveston; nieces and nephews, David and Joyce Eshelman, Galveston, Dean and Jennifer Eshelman, Greentown, Polly and Marvin Grandstaff, Logansport, Beth and Jeff Jones, Walton, and Amy and Eriks Auzins, Kokomo; great-nieces and great-nephews, Karl Eshelman, Katy Eshelman, Andrew Eshelman, Amanda Hedrick, Abbi Eshelman, John Iles, Brady Jones and Alyssa Jones; and five great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Her brother, Max Eshelman, also preceded in death.
Rev. Aaron Gross will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Galveston Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Logansport Church of the Brethren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Logansport Church of the Brethren.

Valice J. Fauvergue
Services for Valice J. Fauvergue, 73, Logansport, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 3:59 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in the emergency room at Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus.
Born Sept. 10, 1935, in Linton, he was the son of Jule Fauvergue and Freida Riggle-Trustee. He was married on Aug. 20, 1955 in Logansport, to Carolyn J. Willy, who preceded in death July 15, 2006.
Valice retired from GTE in 1999 after 29 years of service. He was a member of the River of Life Christian Church. Valice enjoyed woodworking, as well as fishing. He was a Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include fiancé, Dolores Mobley, Nineveh; sons, Greg Fauvergue and wife, Peg, Logansport, and Bruce Fauvergue and wife, Destry, Greencastle; brother-in-law, Erik Willy, Logansport; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Downham and husband, Bob, Logansport, and Eleanor Winegardener and husband, Jack, Logansport; grandchildren, Tyler, Cheyenne and Madison Fauvergue.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Fauvergue.
Rev. W. Frank Hibbard will officiate. Burial, with full military rites, will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Logansport.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to any child abuse prevention program.
Theda F. McClain
Theda F. McClain, 80, Logansport, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, in WoodBridge Health Campus.
Born March 10, 1928, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Thomas and May Butts Rivers. She was married to David A. McClain, who preceded in death Aug. 26, 2001.
She retired from the RBM.
Theda was an avid cook.
Surviving are son, Bill McClain and wife, Beverly, Twelve Mile; daughter, Lynn Benish and husband, Gilbert, Logansport; stepson, Lee McClain and wife, Cindy, New Hampshire; brother, Harold “Link” Rivers, Logansport; and two grandchildren, Nikki Beebout and Steven Pankow.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Bob Rivers; and three sisters, Mabel Brown, Jean Smith and Florence May Rivers.
There will be no services or visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
Gundrum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FLORA - Services for Faye Simms, 67, Flora, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Baker Funeral Home.
She died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in Lafayette.
Pastor Bill Godbey will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora.
