Helen Laverne Spence
WINAMAC - Graveside services for Helen Laverne Spence, 62, Winamac, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Winamac Cemetery.
She died at 1:55 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, in Pulaski Memorial Hospital.
Born June 30, 1945, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of Leroy and Clara Krynock. She was married to Jimmy Spence, who preceded in death in 2003.
Helen was a former school teacher and an 18-year employee of Federal Mogul, Leiters Ford. She also was a devoted employee of Pulaski Developmental Services in Winamac.
Helen was a member of the Eagles Lodge 2580 Auxiliary in Winamac, was an avid gardener and loved her family.
Surviving are her mother, Winamac; daughter, Barbara J. Neeley and husband, Billy, Star City; sons, Sylvester W. Shires and wife, Christine, and Robert W. Spence, all of Winamac; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Paris, Illinois; and brothers, Fred Davidson and Rickey Krynock, both of Winamac, Thomas Krynock, Illinois, and Leroy Davidson, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Roger Davidson; and one sister, Linda Davidson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Frain Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Stephen C. Compton
WINAMAC - Services for Stephen C. Compton, 60, Star City, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Frain Mortuary.
He died at 6:58 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, in his residence.
Born July 26, 1947, in Logansport, he was the son of Richard W. and Aldene M. Schultz Compton.
Steve graduated from Star City High School in 1965 and was a retired farmer. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
He enjoyed watching his children participate in high school sports and show animals in 4-H fairs. He also enjoyed watching his daughter, Sara, participating in tractor pulls. Steve enjoyed time at the Oak Grove restaurant in Star City and enjoyed driving through the countryside looking at the crops. He was an avid coon hunter.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Richard C. and Tess Compton, Royal Center, and Scott and Angie Compton, Star City, and son, Greg D. Compton, North Judson; daughters, Megan S. Compton and Sara J. Compton, both of Star City, and Misty G. Conklin, Twelve Mile; and grandchildren, Amanda Compton, Monica Compton, Kyle Compton, Brandi Compton, Shalihn Compton, Cyrus Conklin, Preston Conklin, Rylahn Toloza, Dallas Compton and Ashley Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, George A. Compton and Rodney Compton.
The Rev. Kevin Marsh will officiate. Burial will be in Star City West Cemetery, Star City.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
Elizabeth ‘Bettie’ Warner Young
DENVER - Services for Elizabeth “Bettie” Warner Young, 87, Indianapolis, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Twelve Mile.
She passed away, Monday, Feb. 11, 2008.
Born Dec. 29, 1920, in Miami County, she was the daughter of Leores and Kate Wilson Warner. She was married Aug. 17, 1941, to Acel G. Young, who preceded in death. They were married 49 1/2 years and lived in California until August 1945. They made their home in Twelve Mile until moving to Florida in 1985.
Bettie graduated from Deedsville High School. She retired from Twelve Mile State Bank as head teller in 1985.
She is survived by her children, Tracie E. Pettit and Warner A. Young and wife, Patricia, all of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, C. Robbin Corn and Douglas Corn, both of Indianapolis, and Elizabeth J. Thatcher and husband, Scott, Lexington, Ky.; six great-grandchildren, Kristen Corn, Tyler Corn, Olivia Corn, Gabriel Thatcher, Acel John “A.J.” Thatcher and Lucas Thatcher; sisters, Eva Friend, Peru, Nada Miller and husband, Paul, Jeffersonville, and Rosa Lee Linn, Rochester; one brother, Fred Warner and wife, Barbara, Peru; and one brother-in-law, Granville Hattery, Macy; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Anita “Ann” Hattery.
Pastors Teri White and Sam Stevens will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Daniel L. Lynch
Services for Daniel L. Lynch, 66, Logansport, are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Crossroads Community Bible Church.
He passed away at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in his residence.
Born Oct. 13, 1942, in Logansport, he was the son of Paul Lynch and Agnes M. Evans Lynch. He was married Nov. 21, 1970, in Wheatland Avenue Methodist Church, to Marjorie Walters, who survives.
Daniel was employed as a truck driver at Exide Corp. He later worked for USF Holland.
Dan was a 1960 graduate of Metea High School. He was bus driver for the Logansport Community School Corp. In later years, Dan especially enjoyed taking special needs children on bus trips to Indianapolis.
Dan was a founding member and elder of Crossroads Community Bible Church in Perrysburg.
Also surviving is daughter, Danielle (Tony) Johnson, Galveston; son, Rod (Michelle) Lynch, Rockfield; daughter, Ann Marie Lynch, Indianapolis; brothers, Max (Nina) Lynch, Rochester, and Tom (Sharon) Lynch, Ten Mile, Tenn.; sister, Patti Longenecker, Warsaw; brother-in-law, Kenny Cunningham, Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
One sister, Carolyn Cunningham; and one brother, Jack Lynch, preceded in death.
The Rev. Jim Rairigh of Crossroads Community Bible Church will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kroeger Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday in the church. Directions to the church are as follows: U.S. 24 (Logansport Road) East to U.S. 31; north on U.S. 31 to 900 N; turn right (east) to the first stop sign and turn left (north); drive one mile to the church.

PERU - Services for Sherry Kay Wray, 70, Peru, are 11 a.m. Friday in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 181 W. Main St., Peru.
She died at 5:18 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in her residence.

William Richard ‘Bill’ Hopper
Private family services will for William Richard “Bill” Hopper, 55, Logansport, will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Kroeger Funeral Home.
He passed away at 9:09 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born Oct. 28, 1953, in Logansport, he was the son of Leonard W. “Bill” and Margaret “Margie” (Caton) Hopper. He was married to Candace “Candy” Gunter-Hopper, who survives.
Bill was employed as an electrical inspector at Logansport Municipal Utilities.
A veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War, Bill was a life member of the VFW Post 3790 and FOP 71, both of Logansport.
He was an avid NASCAR and especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan. He was also a Miami Dolphins fan.
Bill enjoyed helping people, especially his family and friends.
Surviving are his mother, Logansport; sons, Michael Keller, Logansport, Eric Keller, Tulsa, Okla., and Joshua A. (Angel) Hopper, Logansport; daughter, Carrie C. (Steve) Hopper-Harvey, Twelve Mile; brother, Rick L. Hopper (companion, Mandy Hunt), Logansport; sisters, Debbie (Robert) LaDow, Greenwood, and Dawn (Todd) Howard, Lafayette; five grandchildren, Codi Hopper, Noah Harvey, Jenna Harvey, Ethan Keller and Dillon Keller; several nieces and nephews; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Mary Gunter, Logansport; sisters-in-law, Karen Smither, Oklahoma, Rebecca Sterling, Royal Center, and Sheila Sanders, Florida; and brother-in-law, Wayne Gunter, Lucerne.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Dr. Greg Elkins and members of the Cass County Veterans Council military honors team will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will be private at a later date.

Geraldine I. Thompson
Services for Geraldine I. Thompson, 86, Carmel, formerly of Logansport, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2110 N. Third St. in Logansport.
She died at 3:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born Aug. 17, 1920, in Royal Center, she was the daughter of Jesse B. and Nellie Conn Hand. On May 23, 1943, she was married to Jay Worth Thompson, who preceded in death May 26, 2006.
She worked at the H. W. Gossard Company in Logansport as a young woman, but was most grateful for the many lives she had the opportunity to influence raising her three children, teaching Sunday School and working for the Purdue Extension Service in Cass County as a nutrition consultant.
For many years she also helped with Child Evangelism Fellowship’s Tel-A-Story program and 5-Day Clubs.
She was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Indianapolis, and a former member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and Broadway Methodist Church in Logansport.
She is survived by one son, Jay Michael and wife, Darlene, Indianapolis; two daughters, Rebecca Jane Thompson, Indianapolis, and Lissa Jill and husband, Edward Bachman, St. Louis, Mo.; a special adopted daughter, Dr. Nell Collins, Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Melissa, Elizabeth and husband, Nathan Renbarger, and Jay W. Thompson; and four great-grandchildren, Sydney, Elizabeth, Esther and Andrew Renbarger.
One son, Ronald Leroy; one daughter, Susan Ruth; and two brothers, Oliver G. and J. Richard “Dick” Hand, preceded in death.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday in the church.

She passed away at 4:55 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at Hickory Creek of Rochester.

Margaret A. Sprinkle Hall
Private family graveside services will be held for Margaret A. Sprinkle Hall, 92, Logansport.
She died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born March 16, 1916, in Cass County, she was the daughter of Clarence and Stella Grantham Sprinkle. She was married July 31, 1938, to Harold Hall, who preceded in death Jan. 11, 2000.
A 1934 graduate of Young America High School and a 1935 graduate of Fort Wayne Beauty College, Margaret worked at Logansport State Hospital in the dietary department, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Quilters Club.
Surviving are one son, Jerry Hall, Logansport; two daughters, Rosemarie Chapman, Young America, and Phyllis Julian, Clymers; sister, Dorothy Floyd, Sebring, Fla.; brother, Clarence “CJ” Sprinkle, Walton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.
The Rev. Dan Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Logansport.
Cree Funeral Home, in Camden, is in charge of arrangements.
Zella I. Bowman Bain
AKRON - Services for Zella I. Bowman Bain, 95, Rochester, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Rochester Church of the Nazarene.
She died at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in Hickory Creek at Rochester.
The Rev. Don Meyer will officiate at the services. Burial will be at a later date in Gilead Cemetery, Gilead.
There will be no visitation.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, George Back.
