Gertrude E. Leslie

Services for Gertrude E. Leslie, 84, Logansport, will be at 1:30 p.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church.

She died at 10 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009, at her residence.

Born March 4, 1925, in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of William Frederick and Avelena Moses Deacon. On May 17, 1967, in Niles, Mich., she was married to Emerson C. “Mike” Leslie, who preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2008.

Gert had been a receptionist for numerous local doctors’ offices.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a member of the ECW at the church. She enjoyed playing bridge with the local group of ladies, as well as playing cards and games with her grandchildren. Gert and Mike had also enjoyed camping and square dancing.

Surviving are two daughters, Gayle Griffith, Atlanta, Ga., and Dayle Maggart and her companion, Harold Heck, Huntertown; one son, Rick Wilson, Knoxville, Tenn.; three stepsons, Roger (Joyce) Leslie, Charles (Linda) Leslie, and Keith Leslie and his companion, Diane Campbell, all of Logansport; one brother, Ray Morgan, Lavonia, Mich.; one sister, Lorraine Bergman, Lavonia, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Father Theodore Neidlinger will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church.

Clarence Levi ‘Moose’ Miller

MONTICELLO - Services for Clarence Levi “Moose” Miller, 57, Royal Center, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Miller-Roscka Funeral Home.

He died at 6:52 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in Royal Center.

Born Jan. 10, 1952, in Tippecanoe County, he was the son of Donald D. and Norma M. Hintzman Miller. On June 12, 1976, in Monticello Methodist Church in Monticello, he was married to Connie Lynn Allen. She survives.

Moose resided in Royal Center for the past 23 years.

Moose was a 1970 graduate of Frontier High School in Brookston, and had lived most of his childhood in Chalmers. He then moved to Brookston, where he worked and lived for nine years. Moose worked at Halsteads in Brookston, for 15 years, then moved to Royal Center. Clarence had worked at the former Logansport Implement, which is now known as Koenig Equipment Inc. in Logansport, for 23 years and Quix Star for the last few years. Clarence was a former member of St. James Lutheran Church in Reynolds, and an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in Logansport.

Moose liked to go trap shooting, fishing, enjoyed tractors and was a family man. He loved hunting, bowling, traveling and playing cards. When the family was younger, they enjoyed going to all kinds of sporting events.

Also surviving are his mother, Norma Mae Hintzman Miller, Chalmers; daughters, Sharon (companion, Dwayne Bulington) Pope, Monticello, Sherri (husband, Billy) Mize, Logansport, Norma (husband, Aarron) Lucy, Star City, and Helen (husband, Dustin) Myers, Belton, Mo.; granddaughters, Crystal Miller, Carissa Myers and Anna May Lucy; grandsons, Walter Mize, Cody Pope, Cameron Myers and Christopher Mize; sisters, Donna (husband, Frank) Forester, San Antonio, Texas, and Jeanette (husband, Herschel “Jim”) Cocke, Monticello; and brothers, Ronald (wife, Anderea “Andy”) Miller, Indianapolis, and Richard (wife, Victoria) Miller, Yankton, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Chaplain Scott Ellison will officiate. Burial will be in the IOOF Riverview Cemetery, rural Monticello.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family to help purchase a monument at the cemetery.

F. Christopher Rance-Acton

Services for F. Christopher Rance-Acton, 39, formerly of Logansport, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Kroeger Funeral Home.

He passed away March 27, 2008, in his Deltona, Fla. home.

Born July 5, 1968, in Beaufort, S.C., he was the son of Jean Adams Logan and Terry D. Rance.

Chris was a 1986 graduate of Logansport High School and joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation. He served aboard the nuclear submarine USS James Madison until he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1987. Chris remained in the Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1994.

Although he endured 20 years of medical ailments due to his lymphoma, Chris avidly enjoyed traveling, antiquing, working on his computer, watching old black and white movies and collecting Rosalind Russell memorabilia.

Chris is survived by his mother and step-father, Ronald and Jean Logan, Delphi; his father, Terry D. Rance, Logansport; his sister, Jennifer Chell, Deltona, Fla.; and his beloved dog, Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Herbert Rance, and his maternal grandparents, Frederick and Freida Adams.

Burial will be at a later date at Shiloh Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Duranda Drue Anderson

WABASH - Services for Duranda Drue Anderson, 21, Wabash, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in McDonald Funeral Home, Eddingfield Chapel, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash.

She died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at a friend’s residence.

Born Dec. 26, 1986, in Wabash, she was the daughter of Dan and Carolyn Anderson and Christina Dayton Anderson.

Duranda loved life. She graduated from Caston High School in 2005. She enjoyed playing softball, going fishing, crocheting, watching football and being involved in her Youth Group at Bethlehem United Methodist Church at Twelve Mile. She was very proud of her two baby boys.

Surviving are sons, Rylan Quinton Packard, Logansport, and Dylan Wyatt Luttrell, Wabash; brothers, Adrian Anderson, Sterling Martindale and Jamie Seeley, all of Wabash; sister, Brandi Seeley, Wabash; paternal grandfather, Paul Anderson, Wabash; maternal grandmother, Jenny Dayton, Wabash; aunt and uncle, Ron Satrom and Pam Satrom; along with several other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends survive.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Charlene Anderson, and her maternal grandparents, Edward and Margaret Dayton.

Pastor Teri White will officiate. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a trust for her two sons, Rylan and Dylan, in care of Cross Roads Bank.

Catarina Miguel Jose

Vigil services for Catarina Miguel Jose, 12, Logansport will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday in All Saints Catholic Church.

She died at 12:52 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, in Clymers on Ind. 25.

Born Nov. 23, 1995, in Portland, Ore., she was the daughter of Sebastian Miguel Juan and Anna Sebastian Jose.

Catarina was a sixth grade student at Columbia Middle School in Logansport. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.

Survivors include he father and mother, sister, Elizabeth Miguel Jose; half-brothers, Miguel Sebastian and Jaime Sebastian; half-sister, Maria Sebastian, all of Logansport; and maternal grandfather, Sebastian Jose, Guatemala.

Fr. Mike McKinney will officiate. Interment will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Lesley C. Coppernoll

Lesley C. Coppernoll, 74, Logansport, died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in WoodBridge Health Campus.

Arrangements are pending at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Cara Lyn Tucker

MENTONE - Services for Cara Lyn Tucker, 69, Mentone, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, in Beaver Dam United Methodist Church in Akron.

She died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.

The Rev. Butch Troke will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, Mentone.

Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in King Memorial Home in Mentone.

Memorial contributions may be made to Beaver Dam United Methodist Church and to the Charles Tucker Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Wanda Suiter

Services for Wanda Suiter, 82, Burnettsville, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

She died at 12:38 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 2, 1925, in Momence, Ill., she was the daughter of Stafford and Ethel Galbreath Coffenberry.

On Jan. 1, 1947, in Burnettsville, she was married to Myron R. Suiter. He preceded in death Nov. 26, 1982.

A homemaker, she and her husband farmed together in the Burnettsville area. She was a member of the Lockport Church.

Surviving are four sons, Kenny Suiter and his wife, Angie, Doug Suiter and his wife, Nancy, Dickie Suiter and his wife, Cindy, and Dennis Suiter, all of Burnettsville; two daughters, Peg Suiter and Myra Fitzwater and her husband, Mike, all of Burnettsville; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Bridge, Louise Hook and her twin, Juanita Hickman.

The Rev. Opal Reiff will officiate. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, near Burnettsville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Wednesday in the funeral chapel.

Mary K. Russo

Services for Mary K. Russo, 82, Logansport will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Marocco Funeral Chapel.

She passed away at 12:07 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Chase Center in Logansport.

Born July 9, 1925, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Maggie Dubuque Busch.

Mary had worked at RBM in Logansport during World War II and also at the R.W. Gossard Co. in Logansport. She also was a homemaker who enjoyed fishing, cooking and crocheting.

Survivors include one son, Fred “Joe” Russo and wife, Ruth, Logansport; four daughters, Connie Wildermuth, Jennie M. Culp and husband, Stephen, Roxie L. Shaw and husband, Mike, and Julie A. Shelters and husband, Mike, all of Logansport; two brothers, Bob Busch and wife, Betty, Syracuse, and Norman Welker and wife, Mary Jane, Burnettsville; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Gregory and Michael Isaacs, one daughter, Bonnie Hettinger, and one brother, Gaylord Busch.

Pastor David Payton will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

William C. ‘Bill’ Bowman

NOBLESVILLE - Services for William C. “Bill” Bowman, 86, Noblesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center, Hamilton Memorial Park.

He passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008.

Bill was born April 2, 1921, in Logansport, to the late Arthur F. and Mabel J. Easter Bowman; he was raised on the farm in Cass County.

In 1942, he entered the U.S. Navy and was trained as a naval flight officer. After the war he continued his service in the Naval Reserves, during which he helped survey the U.S. and Canadian border.

Bill worked for most of his career as an insurance adjuster, and in 1988, he retired from National Insurance Association as senior vice president of claims management.

He enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, golf, bowling and watching sports. Fun-loving and outgoing, he was an adored husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Bill leaves behind many wonderful memories in the hearts and minds of his beloved wife of 60 years, Catherine A. Gingrich Bowman; sons, William D., Stephen A. and Thomas A. and wife, Charlene, Bowman; sister, Frances A. Ulerick; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

Bernard J. Bickell

Services for Bernard Jay Bickell, 85, Greenville, S.C., will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Gundrum Funeral Home.

He died Saturday, March 29, 2008, in St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, S.C.

He was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Davenport, Iowa, to Homer T. and Florence M. Bickell.

As a youth he resided in Niles, Mich., and in Walton and Logansport.

He graduated from Logansport High School in 1942 and was a member of the football team. Bernard (also known as BJ or Bernie) served as a cartographer in Europe in World War II in Belgium, France and Germany. He was married to the former Mary Elizabeth Rynearson on May 29, 1943. He worked at Medland & Bowman Architects in Logansport until 1965 when he moved to Muncie and worked for Ball Corporation. Bernie was a construction supervisor for the Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie. He moved to Travelers Rest, S.C., upon retirement from Ball in 1989. BJ was a member and deacon of the Ninth Street Christian Church in Logansport and attended Hazelwood Christian Church in Muncie. During retirement, he liked to travel, do gardening, woodworking and make stained glass articles.

Surviving are his wife Mary, Travelers Rest, S.C.; a son, Kent and wife, Janice, Westminster, Colo.; grandchildren, Hannah Bickell, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Sarah Fladeland and husband, R.J., and Noah Bickell, all of Indianapolis, and 1st Lt. David Bickell and wife, Judith, Clarksville, Tenn. David is currently serving our country in Afghanistan.

Pastor W. Frank Hibbard will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

William A. Shaffer

Graveside services for William A. Shaffer, 57, Logansport, will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery’s Legion Circle at a later date.

He died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in his residence.

He was born May 10, 1950, in Logansport.

Mr. Shaffer was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He had worked for several years as a draftsman, and he also had been employed at IBP Inc.

He was a member of American Legion Post 60, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790 and the Eagles Aerie No. 323.

Surviving are one daughter, Kimberly R. Shaffer; one son, Scott A. Shaffer; one sister, Lorretta Weyers and her husband, Greg; one brother, Harrison Larzelere; and his former wife, Linda Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Helen M. Shaffer and Wickham Larzelere.

Fisher Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
