Loyd C. Merkel
ROYAL CENTER - Services for Loyd C. Merkel, 91, Burnettsville, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel.
He died at 4:26 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at White County Memorial Hospital, Monticello.
Born Jan. 27, 1917, in Dubois County, he was the son of the late Jacob and Ethel North Merkel. On May 18, 1978, he was married to Louise V. Armentrout Murphy, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2000.
Loyd formerly co-owned and operated Merkel’s Repair Shop in White County for over 35 years, and he was also a farmer.
Surviving are care takers Mark and Cindy Hines, Royal Center, two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers, Norbert and Elmer Merkel.
Pastor David Webb will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Koster Cemetery in Francesville.
Friends may call one hour before the services at the funeral home.
Edward V. Brown
KOKOMO - Services for Edward V. Brown, 93, Twelve Mile, formerly of Kokomo, will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster.
He passed away at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Caring Hands Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 11, 1914, in Walkerton, he was the son of Fred and Garnet Stevenson Eckert. On May 26, 1934, in Kokomo, he was married to Maxine Milner, who survives.
He had previously worked at Continental Steel during the war, and had retired in 1974 from Delco, where he was a tool designer for 25 years. He was a 50-year member of the Moose Lodge in Kokomo, and the Masonic Lodge in Macy. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and working outside. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Maxine Brown, Twelve Mile; daughter, Diane and Bob Zartman, Nyona Lake; son, Edward and Barbara Brown, Kokomo; grandchildren, Bryan and Pam Barnett, Greentown, Brent and Tina Barnett, Jacksonville, Fla., Beth and Chris Campbell, Elwood, and Seth Edward Brown, Avon; great-grandchildren, Craig and Jason Barnett, Jacksonville, Fla., and Braden Barnett, Greentown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brad Barnett; and two great-grandsons, Ryan and Joshua Barnett.
Pastor Steve Fleck will be officiating. A private burial will follow at Crown Point Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour before the service at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the donor’s favorite charity.
Robert M. Hettinger
ROYAL CENTER - Services for Robert M. Hettinger, 70, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel.
He died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Logansport.
Born Nov. 19, 1937, in White County, he was the son of the late Edgar R. and Josephine O. Layer Hettinger.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Bob retired in 2001 from Federal Mogul in Logansport after 33 years. He was an avid ham radio operator, and he enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He was a member of American Legion Post 60 and VFW Post 3790, Logansport.
Surviving are one daughter, Leann Duez, Danville, Ill.; four brothers, Homer Hettinger and his wife, Virginia, Star City, and James Hettinger and his wife, Jeannie, Richard Hettinger and his wife, Judi, and Thomas Hettinger and his wife, Haley, all of Logansport; and one sister, Mary Tutterow and her husband, Raymond, Logansport. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald Hettinger; one sister, Virginia Hettinger; and two brothers, Paul and David Hettinger.
Pastor Dirk Raderstorf will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Orville Berkshire
CAMDEN - Services for Orville Berkshire, 83, Camden, will be held at 2 p.m. today in Cree Funeral Home.
He died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2008, in Whispering Pines Nursing Home in Monticello.
Born Feb. 21, 1925, in Cass County, he was the son of Enos and Vernie Lee Fry Berkshire.
A 1943 graduate of Rockfield High School, Orville was a self-employed farmer and lifetime resident of the Carroll County area. He also served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed fishing with family and friends.
Surviving are two brothers, Keith (Beverly) Berkshire, Burnettsville, and Kenneth (Mary Ann) Berkshire, Delphi; one sister, Margaret Ann (James) Vernon, Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nettie Hinkle.
Pastor Paul Marcellino will officiate. Burial, with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion and VFW, will be in Camden Cemetery.
Esta Eilene Watson
WABASH - Services for Esta Eilene Watson, 88, Wabash, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.
She died at 7:42 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2006, in Wabash Skilled Care Center.
Born Aug. 31, 1917, in Burnettsville, she was the daughter of Charles and Dessie Snyder Landis. She was married in 1939 to Hobart Roller, who preceded in death in 1939. In 1942, she was married to Bruce Eldon Watson, who preceded in death in 1996.
Esta was a graduate of Adams Township High School, Burnettsville.
She was a member of the Wabash Freewill Baptist Church on Erie Street and attended Grace Fellowship Church in Wabash.
Esta enjoyed flower gardening, was an avid antique collector and loved her grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters, Carrole Garrison and her husband, Reggie, Bethlehem, Ga., Beverly Mathina, St. Petersburg, Fla., Michelle Atkinson and her husband, Gary, LaFontaine, and Darcia Watson Dunn, Wabash; two sons, Bruce Watson, Indianapolis, and Shane Watson, Warsaw; nine grandchildren, Robyn Turnham and her husband, Doug, Chris Garrison, Randy Garrison and his wife, Tammy, Roger Schoby, Mona Mathina, Kailan Dunn, Kalanu Dunn, Kiel Atkinson, and Keith Atkinson; nine great-grandchildren, Sherrolyn Garrison, Vaughn Garrison, Sean Garrison, Conner Garrison, Tristan Turnham, Brian Schoby, Anna Schoby, Michael Schoby and Amy Schoby.
One daughter, Sandra Sue Watson, eight brothers and four sisters, preceded in death.
The Rev. Bill Bowling will officiate at the services.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare and Hospice.

William Joseph ‘Bill’ Stokes
ROCHESTER - Services for William Joseph “Bill” Stokes, 64, Rochester, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Good Family Funeral Home.
He died at 1 a.m. Friday, July 4, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Dr. Mark Spencer will officiate. Graveside services will held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Elwood City Cemetery, Elwood. Military rites will be conducted by the LeRoy Shelton American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service on Wednesday in the funeral home.

Robert Lee Parish
Services for Robert Lee Parish, 80, Logansport, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 9:48 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, in his residence.
Born July 22, 1927, in Amboy, he was the son of Ernest Chap Parish and Cynthia Marie Deardorff. He was married May 21, 1949, in Logansport, to Lois Jayne Hinkle, who survives.
A 1946 graduate of New Waverly High School, Bob worked for 20 years on the Pennsylvania Railroad and then worked for Standard Auto Parts in Winamac, where he retired in 1990.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 60 and VFW Post 3790. Bob was a World War II Army veteran. Bob enjoyed being a member of the Royal Center horseshoe pitching league, bowling, fishing, camping and the time he spent coaching Little League and Babe Ruth.
Bob enjoyed farming with his nephews, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Also surviving are daughters, Melinda Hinkle, Walton, Cindy Parish, Indianapolis, and Patty Michael, Logansport; son, Bobby Parish and wife, Tracey, Winamac; sisters, Betty Gibson, Lafayette, Ruby Black, New Waverly, Dorothy Lynch, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Marge Clem, Peru; 10 grandchildren, Kelli Goodnight and husband, Greg, Broc Hinkle and wife, Amanda, Tom Tate, Andria Land, Mandy Michael, Robbie Michael, Keilly Parish, Jacob Franscoviak, Jarrod Parish and Jesse Parish; five great-grandchildren, Alek Briggs, Ava Briggs, Brady Land, Emma Land and Kynzie Hathaway; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Paul and Eugene Parish; two sisters, Opal Parish and Carol Angle; and one son-in-law, Tom Tate, all preceded in death.
Rev. Scott Ellison will officiate. Burial, with full military rites, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Bettie Thatcher Babb
A Mass of Christian burial for Bettie Thatcher Babb, 83, Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in All Saints Catholic Church.
She passed away at 10:12 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born Sept. 4, 1924, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Willard and Frankie Bell Hyman. She was married to Raymond Thatcher, who preceded in death Aug. 16, 1984. She was married to Paul George Babb, who preceded in death May 8, 2000.
For 10 years the Thatcher family managed the Logansport Monument Company. A 1943 graduate of Logansport High School, Bettie had been active in Jefferson School PTA and Scouts. She was the first woman elected to the first St. Joseph’s Church Parish Council, serving as secretary for four years. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
Bettie was a past member of the Logansport Altrusa Club, Exchangettes, Chamber of Commerce and Our Lady of the Snows study club. She had also been a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries and Daughters of Isabella.
Surviving are daughter, Becky Harris (Randy), St. Charles, Illl.; sons, Timothy Thatcher, Logansport, and Patrick Thatcher (Libby), Apple Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Sean Thatcher, Kelli Thatcher, Ryan Thatcher (Kelly), Lisa Thatcher, Bryce Harris (Jessica), Brenley Harris and Shelby Harris; great-grandchildren, Connor Thatcher, Hannah Thatcher, Parker Thatcher and Maya Thatcher; five stepgrandchildren; a number of stepgreat-grandchildren; niece, Jan Groninger, Logansport; and nephews, Don Hyman, Logansport, and Ronnie Hyman, Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Father Mike McKinney will officiate at the services. Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kroeger Funeral Home, where a Scripture service will be held at 6:30 p.m. with Deacon Chris Shocklee officiating.

GEORGIANA, Ala. - Richard J. White, 55, formerly of Logansport, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008.

Patricia R. Hall
Services for Patricia R. Hall, 79, Logansport, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
She died at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008, in her residence.
Born May 16, 1929, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Franklin Harold and Goldie Faye Wilburn Little. She was married Nov. 2, 1946, in Leesville, La., to Donald M. Hall, who preceded in death Aug. 26, 1982.
Patricia was a homemaker and was a former housekeeper for 10 years for Camelot Care.
She was a member of Helm Street Church of God. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are daughters, Marilyn Osborn and husband, Pat, Logansport, and Donetta Leydet and husband, Fred, Vincennes; sons, Richard Hall and wife, Kathy, Gary Hall and wife, Toni, and Martin Hall and wife, Renda, all of Logansport; sister, Janet Sanders and husband, Larry, Orlando, Fla.; Paul Little and wife, Sherry, Logansport; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Hall, and one grandson, Connor Hall.
Pastor Dellmus Hall will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
